To me, there's no handier or faster meal than a roll of kimbap. These Korean rolls of rice, veggies, and (if chosen) meats are a quick way to get a balanced meal in a finger food, and a colleague recently pointed me to Appa's Kimbap as her preferred spot to get them. The store is tiny and almost missable along this busy street. It's the width of a large closet and, to my recollection, there's no place to stay and eat. Aside from a few beverage choices, the menu's pretty limited to kimbap, but what else would you be here for? I wanted to try as many different rolls as possible, so I ordered four or five different kinds and found them to be fantastic - well seasoned rice, a good balance of rice and fillings, and fresh as can be. I was especially taken by their 'keto' kimbap, which replaces the standard layer of rice with shredded eggs. Keto and protein-heavy dieters, you will love this take on kimbap. The wife and husband duo that work this small shop are as sweet as can be. Though there's always someone hard at work preparing new kimbap rolls behind the counter, a lot of the menu items on the menu have been prepped earlier in the day, so my larger order was fulfilled in absolutely no time.

My new favorite kimbap on Broad Ave. This is the place you come if you love a ton of vegetables in your kimbap and have a perilla leaf addiction. This addition elevates the kimbap and make it taste much lighter and fresher. I love how that their rice is slightly seasoned and not mushy. I typically go for the spicy kimbaps like spicy squid, spicy tuna etc etc. But this place has really hit the jackpot in their combination of flavors that I think a basic tuna kimbap actually melds everything together without overpowering the more subtle tastes. Service was fast, friendly and easy. Going to alternate btw this and Kimbob Club.

Ordered three things: 1) marinated crabs, small size (5/5). Always a must-get here. 2) ddukbaegi bulgogi (4.5/5) - Thinly sliced prime marinated beef ribeye casserole with rice cake and glass noodle and mushroom served in a sizzling hot pot. Really flavorful and so good to have on a cold day. 3) ahjae ppyo jjim (4.5/5) - Braised prime beef meat bones in soy reduction with carrots, radish, dates, chestnut, rice cake and glass noodles. We got non-spicy. It came in a HUGE bowl. Definitely meant to be shared with a group. Took leftovers home and it was still yummy the next day mixed with knife-cut noodles I had at home.

Side dishes (fresh kimchi, radish, fish cake, and egg) were AMAZING. Had so many refills. Come here!! FOOD: Premium Soy Marinated Crab (9/10) - Insanely sweet and crab sizes are very generous. Mix the rice in the head, you won't be disappointed Soy Marinated Blue Crab (8/10) - Also really good, but crabs are a bit smaller. Still tastes great with the rice Bibingnaeng (8/10) - Really solid cold noodles with beef, pear, and cucumbers? Great way to finish off the meal.

Came on a weekday night and there weren't many people in the store. - Deluxe Gomtang - I think the difference between the normal gomtang and the deluxe version is that they give a bit more meat and rice. I really liked the gomtang as the flavors were really rich especially when elevated by the pepper. - Seolleongtang - Clear and beautiful broth that went really well with salt. I felt like the meat was not as tender as I hoped but still made me think of my favorite Korean restaurant where I grew up. - Kong-guksu - I didn't know what to expect of this dish as I've never heard of it or tried it before but I didn't really like the dish. No matter how much salt/pepper I put in, there still didn't seem to be a lot of flavor. I ended up dumping the Korean Pickled Onion banchan in which helped elevate the flavor a lot. - Mini KimchiJeon - When I read this off the menu, I though the kimchi pancake would be extremely small but it turned out to be quite bit and very delicious. It was super crispy on the outside with soft insides stuffed with kimchi. I will definitely be back to this home-y restaurant!

You order at the front and pick up your food when it's ready. It's actually a really convenient system, and since there is no table service, there's no expectation to leave a gratuity. The food itself is consistently good. The parking lot is very, very small and shared with the cafe next door, so parking can be a squeeze. Because it's so popular, it gets very busy during prime dining hours. Even when I've ordered takeout, there can sometimes be a decent wait to get your food so I recommend order online or over the phone ahead. They do charge a little extra if you pay with a credit card to cover the fees. If you visit during the summer months, you absolutely have to try the Naeng Myeon (cold noodle soup) or the Bibim Naeng Myeon (spicy cold noodles). They really hit the spot and are incredibly refreshing. Highly recommend!

They rotate the banchans and we get something a little different each time we go and they're all very good. One thing that really stands out is their steamed eggs. It's fluffy, hearty, flavorful and it's always my kids' favorite. The meats are of good quality and I'm obsessed with their aged kimchi which comes with any pork order so make sure you request it. The service is great as they come and grilled the meats for you and they always grill it to perfection. The only downside side is I remembered they used to take reservations if you have a party if 7 or more but this is no longer the case. We wanted to come here for a party of 8 on the weekend and they don't take reservations on weekends so we almost never make it as a big group because there's normally a very long wait time unless you come super early. This is my go to spot for Korean bbq and I think price is reasonable compared to other options considering the high quality of the food they offer. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic experience.

The meat was fresh and tender, and grilled up beautifully alongside some mushrooms, garlic, and daikon on the tabletop grill. Loved that they threw in fresh herbs (rosemary/thyme) on the meat too -- nice touch. Banchan was plentiful and kept coming, so you're never short on sides. For dipping, you get a choice of garlic scallion sauce, soybean paste (ssamjang), or just salt -- all solid options depending on what you're grilling. Service was attentive and quick to help with the grill and refills without being intrusive. The restaurant has a big dedicated parking lot, which made getting in and out so much easier. Will definitely be back to try out the intestine options.

Even though my friend was still about eight minutes away, the staff was kind enough to accommodate us, which we really appreciated. Every bowl was a hit. The kids enjoyed their beef soups, while the adults ordered the beef knee soup, with one person choosing the spicy beef soup. Each soup came with cooked sticky purple rice, a few noodles in the broth, and classic Korean side dishes like kimchi that rounded out the meal perfectly. The service was phenomenal from beginning to end. Despite how busy they were, the staff remained friendly, attentive, and efficient.
