The bulgogi was definitely frozen and mushed too much to cook. The pieces were all choppy and tiny. The vegetable wrap is what makes the dish feel healthy. TLDR: Small local Korean shop in Palisades Park. They got a little bit of everything but for me - two things stood out. The ssam platter brisket or spicy pork is best and the nakji bokkeum. Wowies. Came here with the in-laws and wow, what a place. It's small and just a local joint people go to eat but the stuff they do well, they do well. The ssam platter has a massive assortment of veggies. Probably more than 10 different choices. We got the beef brisket but had we not had the stir-fried spicy pork earlier in the day, that's what we would have had. Grab a lettuce or veggie wrap, some rice, some sauce and the meat. The nakji bokkeum is probably the best I've ever had. It's actually spicy, tender octopus chunks, bouncy udon noodles. This place was a great find. It was crowded for lunch on a Friday. Service was a little slower as it seemed like there was just one server. But she was friendly although she was obviously stressed. We chose here because of the spicy blue crabs since most restaurants in that area that serve marinaded crabs do just soy sauce ones. It did not disappoint! So good. Weird how it seems like the reviews are like Jekyll and Hyde here, as I've visited this place multiple times and never had a single instance of rude or service or lousy food. What I always love about coming here is not only the homey-vibe of the food, but also the consistency of it and the overall experience as well. For me this place checks a lot of boxes. The food as I mentioned is homey and well prepared. It's consistently good and the restaurant itself has always been very clean and a cozy place to grab a nice lunch or dinner. It's also not a huge place, so it doesn't get super crazy in here, which is nice for me at least as someone who enjoys a relatively quiet meal. I usually get the kalbi set with tofu soup, which are both tasty and the latter being just right, not too spicy not too salty. I've also had the seafood pancake here which is very good, as well as the brisket which is good but the portion is very big, so keep that in mind. The latter is better as a dish for 2-3 people for sure. I'm also a big fan of their very fresh banchan options. It's not some huge variety but they always have been good with refills. The servers here have always been very friendly to me and my family. It's hard to envision the folks who work here being rude to anyone based on the several visits I've had, but that's my own experience and I'm sticking to it. They have a small parking lot but it generally is enough to fit everyone since the restaurant itself isn't big but I always love how quaint and cozy it is inside. Dogani tang didn't need additional salt it was just right. The dogani was chewy and bite sized. Galbi was fire grilled to perfection. Bibimbap on hot stone plate was fresh. Jaeyook bokeum was well marinated. There was plenty of seating around 7pm. They have a parking lot but it's small. There's something about the kimchi here that I love, and their kimchi stew is also so thick and flavorful! Another yelp find which hubster and I ended up trying since they allowed us to bring our dog for outdoor seating when we called to ask lol When we arrived parking was almost full and we were glad that the staff actually went out of their way to assist us finding a spot! They were very friendly and accommodating. When I checked the photos prior for outdoor seating there were 3 spots then but i guess now since we have indoor dining available, there was only one outdoor spot available. It actually worked for us since we brought our pup and it was like a little enclosure. For this visit we tried their seafood pancake and bibimbaps. I must say this was one of the better korean food I tasted in a while. The dangjang was probably one of the best in this area in my opinion. The banchan tasted very authentic and made by someone who is obviously experienced. So why the 4 star? I think many of the single serving dishes were more on the expensive side. Noodles 15$ , soups in the 15 range is kind of steep for a single serving dish for this area. My friends and I ordered many different items: spicy stir fried pork combo with kimchi stew, raw marinated crab combo, LA beef short ribs combo with fermented bean stew, korean seafood pancake, mukeunji marinated chicken stew with aged kimchi. Majority of the choices were absolutely delicious. They had very good seasoning and marinate for how they should be cooked. Savory, spicy, sweet...all the taste senses were on point. With korean food, korean side dishes follow. These are a main compliment to main dishes. They had a variety of side dishes and it was all tasty. The interior is spaced out given COVID. Their menu isn't huge but it's a well rounded amount of selections to choose from. The food is delicious without being overwhelmingly spicy. Side dishes vary, which is nice if you want to try something new each time. There's an occasional fly here and there but where there is food outdoors there's bound to be pesky insects. For a while this was our favorite Korean restaurant in the area. We ordered Ssambap as usual, and it came with a long hair mixed in with beef and onions on the plate. I complained to the lady, and she said "Where is it? I can't see it myself." She took it back to the kitchen must have confirmed with someone with better eyesight, and said "I am very sorry. We will make a new one for you!" I asked her if it would take too long, she said it should be quick because there aren't too many diners right now. And guess what? A few minutes later she came with the same plate minus the portion of the meat that touched the hair. You cannot deceive your lone time customer. We are not coming back here again! Clean, spacious, and up-to-date finishings with booth seating at this really delicious Korean restaurant. I loved the banchan - they had cabbage, shirataki cakes in chili oil, pasta salad, spinach in soy/sesame dressing, sliced fish cakes (my favorite) and of course kimchi. They do a lunch special every day until 3 pm, so you save a couple of dollars from dinner prices. They have a really wide variety of less conventional dishes too, like raw marinated crab and pork knuckle stew. I got the raw marinated crab set lunch - there were maybe 3-4 crabs in there in a spicy marinade, and I chose the kimchi stew (could've went with the soybean stew) to go with it. I find the food here tasting fresh and clean. The first time was when we dined there about a year ago and tried the beef ssam. The side dishes were all good and fresh and they gave you a variety of leafy veggies to make the wrap. Recently I ordered the sam gae tang (Korean chicken soup) and braised kimchi and chicken (spicy but not too spicy). Both were very good; we especially enjoyed the chicken soup. It has deep flavor, which many places don't achieve. I'm glad that this soup is always on the menu. Most Korean places offer in the summer time. Definitely a semi-traditional korean restaurant. Most if not the entire menu was in korean but had family style dishes. We tried the korean army stew and spicy pork which was pretty good. Bon chon was the real winner here with many varieties such as potato salad, fish cake, kimchi, bean sprouts and more. Nice place to sit down without breaking the bank.
