I've been here multiple times and always had great service. This time I came in after I booked an appointment because my laptop had been acting up. Aaron was incredibly helpful, took detailed notes, ran some tests in the store and talked to me about them, and sent me help articles if I wanted to do some other tests at home. He also showed me the new MacBook and helped me figure out the performance and storage capabilities I would need if I bought a new one. He also explained the Apple Card and helped me figure out the trade-in value. Aaron was able to answer all my questions, and if he wasn't able to answer a sales related question, he went to a sale person, asked them, and then came back to me with the answer. Fantastic service. My biggest tip for going into any apple store, especially if you need tech help, is make an appointment if you can. I got here before it opened for my appointment at 9am on a Saturday when they opened, and was in and out in under an hour. read more

My charger for my 5 has been acting up so I decided to drop by to see if they can replace it. After asking one of the workers, he directed me to someone who was already helping a lil ol' lady. I overheard her problem and it was basically her not understanding why she wasn't getting notifications because she turned the do not disturb function on. I get that she wasn't exactly the tech-savvy type of person and needed a long explanation, what I don't get is why is there only ONE person to "fix" problems. During the time that I was waiting I saw THREE people just standing there doing nothing. Really? You have all these employees walking around and there's only ONE guy that can help me? Absolutely ridiculous! After 15 mins of pointless waiting, he didn't look close to being done so I ended up having to leave. For a big store in the city, being fast and efficient is crucial otherwise you'll lose your guest. What's the point of having so many workers if they can't even help people? read more

I've been a long time Apple fan and have bought their premium products for more than a decade. Yesterday, we had to go for service because a newly bought iPhone 6S wouldn't charge anymore. After waiting 2 hours as a walk-in, we were told that they couldn't do warranty replacement at the store and that the phone needed to be sent out. At that point, we opted to pay $300 to have the phone replaced out of warranty. During the same visit, we tried to fixed an issue with the iTunes account which locked because of the new phone. They were totally helpless and we were told to wait 24 hours for them to email us. This was my first apple service need in a really long time. I recall that they used to be able to fix things on the first call or visit. What's happened to this iconic company is just sad. It feels as if we were taken for granted and they are behaving like the monopoly that they have become. I hope this great company changes course. I really don't want to buy a Samsung phone. read more

The new Apple Store opened today in Union Square. It is gorgeous. Open and spacious. The team is very excited and happy about their new space. Today, I stopped in to get a repair on my phone. They checked me in and I was helped in just minutes. There is an awesome patio out back to relax and to connect with other Apple fanatics. I Love Love Love the new store! Some folks at this store are fairly kind and have to unfortunately put up with difficult customers. Others are not as considerate. Went here for a battery replacement which ended up breaking my existing phone. They provided a refurbished one, but made me stay at the store for 3 hours longer than usual (yes, 3 hours during a pandemic) to transfer my data without apple employee assistance. They also would not provide an extra screen protector, despite manual error on the employee's part, and got upset at me for asking for the possibility of one, given that my old phone which was broken by the apple employee had a screen protector. i would give negative if I was allowed to. People who work here do no care about customer service if it's anything bad about an Apple product. Unless you are happy and doing jumping jacks with a huge smile on your face you will be ignored. I was ignored as I sat and waited inside for 30 minutes. After being checked in and dealt with all the Covid stuff. The first woman who helped me was very militant and standoffish. I was in tears at the 45 minute mark and was asked to go outside. I went outside to gather myself and not one person gave a crap about my frustration with a brand new phone that would not work! It would freeze up, screen would turn black, couldn't call anyone, conversations would be cut off, thenn by phone would get very hot to touch, a fisher price toddler play phone would work WAY BETTER. I traveled from Reno Nevada to San Francisco for an Apple appointment and left more frustrated and hating Apple products more than you will ever know! I broke my iPhone 6+ screen badly, and Apple Store wasn't even on my list when thinking about fixing it. Contacted several 3rd party repairing stores; no one had the material. One even suggested me to go to Apple Store. So... here I came I tried walk-in but no luck. Instead made an reservation online for a two-day later slot The service staff was Michael and I felt he was just a normal service guy at first couple minutes, but... He explained the cost of $129 for screen change and $329 for phone change (the worst scenario). This kinda helped me prepare myself for the big bucks. Then he went on something about they couldn't do it now because it took 3 hours to change the screen and it was 6pm already; he suggested me to come back tomorrow. Yeah... this prepared me again that I need to bare with that crapy screen for another day. BUT... he asked me to wait and then walk to someone. After he came back, he said he can give me a phone in exchange for mine with $129! Given I have to do phone restoration, which is totally fine for me. So... I'd say he is nice and he is smart. I am happy that my phone screen is good as new and I don't have to pay $300+. Restoration can be somewhat annoying for resetting passwords, auth. keys, resyncing bluetooth devices. But well... While the exterior of the building is nice enough (despite not fitting with the surrounding businesses at all), it can't hold up compared to SoHo and 5th Avenue in New York City, or North Michigan Avenue in Chicago. That being said, the Apple Store San Francisco is perfectly located on the corner of Stockton and Ellis Streets, with easy BART and MUNI access. And when I say 'easy'. I mean the station is right underneath the store. The Ellis/O'farrell Parking Garage is nearby, but unfortunately there is no official loading zone. Parking next to the store on Ellis Street before 6PM is definitely at your own risk. For the most part, the Mac Specialists are friendly and knowledgeable. Depending on who you talk to, your buying experience can range from laid back to pushy. Overall, though, Mac Specialists do a decent job of answering questions, and if not, make the best attempt to find someone who can. The Theater is the best part of this store. Classes range from iLife applications to Pro applications, along with Mac-related special events and live in-store concerts (The theater coordinator, past and present, have done a great job with these types of events). Some of the presenters can be dry, but I highly suggest sitting in on a few classes taught by Chris Riess or AJ Maiorano. Definitely the best Apple Retail has to offer. Regardless of the time of day, the Genius Bar is going to be packed. Last I heard, they have a queue for the queue. Who wants to wait in line just so they can be placed in the official line? No one. If you need something repaired, either make an appointment for when you can actually come in, or go to Stonetown. It's really that simple. Some of the Geniuses can be snotty or mean, as many people have complained about on Yelp, but honestly, if you were being yelled at constantly by people with computer problems, how would you feel? Exactly. Repair time can range between 5-7 days to weeks, depending on what the issue is. Again, I suggest taking your repair to Stonestown or another Apple Store in the Bay Area. There are plenty to pick from. If you need to stop by the store to check your email, print out directions, or anything like that, don't. Just don't. First of all, every single machine possible is constantly mobbed by people doing exactly what you're attempting to do (mainly check email), but the majority are kids checking their myspace or playing with Photo Booth (Steve, you were right: You'll waste hours and hours with that thing). More importantly, however, the people who setup the wired and wireless connections at Apple Stores (ALL of them, not just SF) have absolutely no idea what they're doing. So nonetheless, the network is going to be slow as all hell. Oh, and if you do get on a machine and a Mac Specialist asks you nicely if they can demo the machine for a customer who intends to buy the machine, you can either be one of those people who eventually needs to be escorted out of the store by security because they tell the Mac Specialist to "go fuck themselves" for trying to do their job, or you can nicely step aside and let them demo it and return to the machine when they're done. It's really up to you. Waiting in line is par for the course when shopping at any flagship store, and the Apple Store is no different. For small purchases or non-computer sales AND you plan on paying with a credit card, definitely get in line and keep your eyes out for the cashiers that look like they have palm pilots attached to their hands. They'll email your receipt to you and you'll be out of there in minutes. If you're buying a computer, you're a little out of luck for quick service, but your machine will get to you eventually. Feel free to ask any employee if they can check on the status of your machine after you've paid, just don't be a jerk about it. They're there to help you. If you show up during non-standard hours (Standard lunch hours or when normal people get off of work need not apply here. Fridays and Saturdays? Don't even think about it), you shouldn't run into too many problems. Just remember: be patient and take deep breaths. This is what happens when you shop in Downtown San Francisco. I requested 2 times for the Stooges to upgrade my OS System to Sierra for me while they had it for a repair. Simple right? I asked two different Stooges to do the upgrade for me. "No problem" both Stooges told me. After I picked it up and got it home: No change. Same operating system. Are you kidding me? And they like to call themselves geniuses? My phone broke I needed another one so I decided to come into this Apple store while on my trip through SF. I was immediately greeted and pointed to a sales professional to help me get set up with a new phone. It took a little longer than expected but everyone involved did everything in their power to help me out as fast as they could. I was pleased with every aspect of the service I received and they were super thorough in every detail concerning my purchase. In general I'm a huge fan of Apple products but I wasn't really thrilled with the location of the store. Too many people around bumping into each other and being ornery because everyone seems to be in a hurry when they are in downtown SF. For the record I definitely do not like a rude and rushed atmosphere. Within a span of two weeks, my Macbook Pro and iPhone 6 (both less than a year old) decided that they wanted to die on me. I noticed that my phone was bent while I was studying for finals, but didn't want to worry about it until after I came home from school. A couple days after I came home, my laptop screen cracked out of the blue, and I immediately signed up for the earliest possible Genius Bar appointment. I came in on a Wednesday afternoon and was surprised to see so many people waiting at the Genius Bar (don't you people have work..?), so even though I checked in early, I still had to wait about 5-10 minutes before anyone came to help me. The Genius took a look at my laptop and took it into the back room after finding no damage on the surface. When he reemerged, he told me he couldn't find a point of impact, meaning that Apple would fix my screen for free! He said it would be ready in 3-5 days, and I left the store happy that my laptop was in good hands. The next day I received an email that my laptop was done already - talk about efficient! I thought that they would be able to fix my phone on the same day, but I guess it's policy to make separate appointments for separate devices; the Genius who checked me in helped me make an appointment then and there, so I returned 4 days later with my phone in tow. Once again they checked my phone for any damage and asked if I could remember an event that could have caused the bend in my phone. Finding nothing wrong (again), they replaced my phone for free under warranty. Despite the busy atmosphere, the Geniuses I've encountered on each of my trips to the Apple Store have been professional and efficient, but also friendly and understanding. It can't be easy to deal with so many people everyday, but they all do so with a positive attitude. Keep up the good work! read more

Loved this Apple location! The bottom floor is filled with Apple products to try out and purchase. The top floor is a large working area where you can have a seat and work on whatever you want. They also have classes running in case you need to learn about the features of your products, or have other questions. There are people there for help you fix product issues and just outside the large glass doors there's an open outdoor seating area where you can relax with your gadgets. The design is amazing, the employees are very helpful, and the layout is relaxing. Highly recommended! read more

I have a love-hate relationship with Apple. On the one hand, the products often drive me crazy. Almost every iPhone iOS 'upgrade' is worse than the previous one in terms of battery usage, counterintuiveness of apps, etc. It's frustrating, and I may be switching to Samsung in the future. However, I have to give credit where credit is due and give a shout-out to the Apple folks that have helped me out in the SF Union Square location in particular. I've been in here two times in the last several months for technical assistance with my phone. The first time, I believe the name of the gentleman who helped me was Nick, though I could be totally off, as I'm usually a complete dunce with names. I do remember he was from my home town of Novi Sad (woot!), so Nick if you read this, forgive me if I'm off on the name, it certainly wouldn't be the first time. :/ 'Nick' helped diagnose a potential virus problem, which thankfully did not turn out to be an actual virus. The second time was a couple of days ago, when I went in because my battery was draining awfully fast. The gentleman that assisted - and I cannot remember his name, ugh! - was very helpful, and ran complete diagnostics on the phone. Although he diagnosed the battery as still technically operating within normal parameters, he advised me that I could replace the battery for $49 - much better than the $70 or so they used to charge. They didn't have the battery in stock there, but upon learning that I would be in Walnut Creek in a couple of days, the very helpful associate made a call to the Walnut Creek store to ask them to hold the battery for when I came in. Great service. From a service perspective, I'm pleased with this store and would return with any further Apple product issues. read more

When my Macbook charger broke, everyone recommended for me to come to this Apple Store instead of any other one. They were correct! I snagged an appointment slot online the morning I headed off to SF. I checked in about 10 minutes before my appointment, waited a bit on a nice comfortable bench, and was called the front. Since I was coming to the Apple Store anyway, I figured I would also tell them my phone battery was acting up. My phone kept powering down when it would be at 30% so I thought I could maybe get a replacement battery or something. I told the worker I had AppleCare (or so I thought). However, when he looked it up, my phone didn't show that I had AppleCare. He explained my phone background to me detailedly to assure that he was not duping me or something. Luckily, my phone was still under the one year warranty so he just went to the back and gave me a brand new iPhone. :) Next, I explained that my MacBook charger was broken. He said that usually I would need to make a second appointment, but he just let me continue anyway! Checked my warranty, and I got a new Macbook charger! Made an appointment to get the battery replaced on my iPhone 6. Actually, I made an appointment to come into the store, wait for twenty minutes, have some "genius" perform diagnostics on my phone, tell me what I already knew (the battery's performance had degraded significantly - this may sound familiar because it happened to literally every iPhone 6), and finally, let me know that they did not have the battery in stock and it would be "two weeks or more - probably more" before I could actually get it replaced. Well, it's been almost four weeks now, with no word from Apple. Literally every app on the phone is agonizingly slow to respond. Want to get that cute picture of your infant before he starts crying? Still loading. Want to listen to a song without having to wait 45 seconds for Spotify to open? Sorry. At this point, I want to leave the Apple ecosystem very badly. I had a poor experience at the Kangaroo store in the Marina, and went in here to evaluate the new MacBook Air. The staff are all friendly and helpful, didn't push the new Air over my 2012 model. I felt like I didn't spend money on something I didn't need so I bought a new iPhone XS Max. They sat me down in front of the stage while song performances were underway and actually walked me through the phone transfer. I walked out with a new, functioning iPhone. Awesome. Fun. Service. Came in looking to get the new nano (with awesome new fitness features) and to try/get some Sol Republic headphones. Service was spotty at first, with lots of the floor support just running around or too busy socializing with fellow floor support... but we eventually got some help from Toby(?), and he was great! Not only did he let us open up and try out over-the-ear and in-ear Sol Republic headphones, but he also joined in on the fun and helped to create a new Sol Republic following! Most places won't let you open up headphones to try out, since its kinda wierd and if you don't buy them after using them... who will? But here it was all about making the customer feel welcomed and happy, and they were definitely cool about letting me try them out, no strings attached. I ended up purchasing the in-ear headphones thanks to them (and my new (RED) ipod nano), and leaving as an estatic customer confident in a great purchase! I recommend setting up an appointment because no matter what time of day it is; it's extremely busy. With my recent last visit yesterday, I was given genuinely appalling costumer service from "DAVID". My iPhone 6s was on its last limb. I went to the Apple Store recently to have my optical drive replaced (luckily, still under AppleCare). Made the appointment, and went in, where I experienced a madhouse. Tons of people bringing in their Macs, iPhones, etc. -- and seemingly too few "Geniuses" to service everyone. That said, I dropped it off at 7PM on a Tuesday, and got a call that repairs were complete and that I could pick it up on Wednesday at 8AM. 13 hour turnaround is INCREDIBLE. The Mac works perfect now, and it was a pretty painless process. Minus one star for the insane crowds -- but overall really good for the fast repairs. read more

Service is always good at most Apple locations but this location seemed to have things down to a science. I was in SF that day anyway so it really didn't cause me any issues. Whoa! I went for two items, an airport and headphones. Even with a minimum of 100+ people, browsing, testing and questioning I was in and out within 10 minutes flat! Unbelievable! With the use of their handy dandy handheld Apple Pay device, techs can now answer questions, provide demonstrations then check you out right where you stand. With so many people you would think the staff would be overwhelmed, but no. Everyone in those blue shirts were extremely friendly, approachable and ready to help. Being on the corner of Market & Sutter this Apple location is an ideal stop for visitors in town as well as locals. I mean if you take the Montgomery Bart exit from 16th & Mission, your round trip visit may be no more than 30 minutes door to door! It's pretty much impossible to get my Apple products repaired at any store. It's too bad that the Apple Store, which once was a great experience, is so horrible now. *Update* It is better to just call AppleCare directly. They were willing to work with me, they sent me a new keyboard and inspected my old one, verifying it was defective. I personally do not have good luck in Apple Stores, they just seem very disorganized and staffed with employees who are busy standing around. I remember back in the day (early 2000's) the service was only phone based, but it was probably the best experience I ever had. This was of course back in the day when Apple cared more about customer retention vs. selling sheer volume. I still love the products, I just hope that they can eventually get the service back that they once had. Been a customer for 20 years and will say every year the experience gets worse in the Apple Store, not sure what the hype is about. Apple service continues to decline. Waited 40 minutes after my appointment to have them tell me they would do nothing for my $169 crap keyboard for my iPad Pro. Told me i have to replicate issue in front of them. So much for AppleCare and warranties because they don't do crap for you when you go in. Wish apple was what it used to be. read more

This store is by far the worst regarding customer service. I have been lied to so many times here it's now comedic. The most recent time they no prespit stuck me in the ass was when I needed my MacBook repaired. We'll ignore the fact my MacBook broke after a year. I request a repair and they say come back in 4 hours. We'll send you a message 15 minutes before your appointment and you can always extended it if you're more than 15 minutes away from the store. I say ok. Two hours later I get a text from Apple saying my appointment will be in 15 minutes and I can't extended it. If I don't show up in 15 minutes then I lose my appointment. I go to the Apple store as quickly as I can but it's beyond 15 minutes. They tell I lost my appointment time and dismiss my objection that I was simply following the direction of their employee. Also it was actually 2 hours early because my appointment wasn't for 2 hours later. I ask them to honor my appointment time and they say they're too busy. But I can try again tomorrow. This is just one only the many times I've been dicked around by the employees at this store. It's the nicest Apple store by appearance but has the worst serve of all of them. That's saying something because Apple stores are notorious for offering shit for service. Which is annoying because every Apple product I've ever owned (MacBook, iMac, iPhones) have all required service as some point. read more

I purchased the iPhone X online and opted to pick up the device at the store, as I've not yet visited. The only thing I expect is to be GREETED or at least acknowledged while entering an Apple Store, let alone THE flagship location in the heart of San Francisco. I would understand if I were at the store on a busy weekend day, but I arrived just prior to lunchtime on my way to work on a weekday, the store was not busy at all. After walking around lost, and counting approximately a dozen associates standing around buried in a device, or staring out the amazing front windows in a daydream, I made my way upstairs only to be told to make my way back to the other end of the store and proceed downstairs. Upon my arrival downstairs, I noticed four associates standing around avoiding eye contact. I hesitantly approached a gentleman staring out the window and asked if he could help me. I quickly received my new device and mentioned I wanted to skip the bar appointment I had scheduled, all good. I then arrived to my office and noticed my current iPhone was already deactivated when I specifially asked the associate if I could proceed later. I typically don't make the time to write reviews, but was really let down for spending over a thousand dollars with such a poor experience. Need to step up your game! read more
