Art is not only very skilled and professional, but very kind and practical as well. We had a problem where our GE Monogram refrigerator/ freezer was leaking water onto our hardwood floors. We called a few different appliance repairmen and each told us we needed to replace the entire unit. Art was the only one who said he would come work on it and came to our home the same day we called him. He took the freezer apart and found the issue immediately: the drain had frozen over. He defrosted it and put some copper wire in place so it wouldn't happen again. It's running perfectly now and we didn't have to spend $12k+ on a new refrigerator. Art cleaned our 20-year-old refrigerator's stainless steel exterior and showed us how best to clean it in the future, without using harmful chemicals. It looks brand new! We had used our oven the night before and it worked perfectly. So to my surprise I was devastated when the next day my oven never heated up at all. We checked the stove top range and alll the burners worked perfectly so only the oven was the issue (not heating). We called Art and he was able to get us on his schedule rather quickly & he accommodated our work schedule/availability. He took the time to perform a full diagnostic check on the oven which was very impressive. He explained everything he was doing to us and even threw in some good humor (he definitely made me laugh) in the mix. Art was polite, thorough, and very knowledgeable & skilled in what he does. I'd highly recommend him to anyone who wants to get an appliance fixed because he knows his stuff. He ended up finding the issue (our guess on the issue was way off), he was able to fix/solder a wire within the oven. And bada bing bada boom the oven and broiler was fixed. Artie is wonderful He's the one man band of a repair guy He does have some family commitments that may prevent things from getting resolved quickly, but I have never seen anyone resolve things as cost-effectively or as well We have used him for multiple things over the years, most recently my high-end stove had corroded out burners, and he found a part from the company that cost a third as much as the official replacement part, they looked identical, with some minor modifications he was able to make work as new. Saved hundreds. So now we have four new burners ready for another 20 to 40 years on our high-end gen air split fuel stove, for which the replacement I looked into before his first repair was many thousands of dollars. His first big repair was finding the control module and installing it, about 8 years ago. This is our second interaction with Art. The first was years ago (maybe 10?) when we repaired our fridge. This time it was the oven. We spoke on the phone and he was able to diagnose the issue (high likelihood), so he had the parts and tools needed when he arrived. The fix was straightforward. This was an old appliance - over 15 years old. Before the repair, we were preparing ourselves to purchase a new unit. Ugh. Art's fix may give us an additional 10-15 years! Extremely happy. We have a fairly new LG dryer that started making a horrible noise about 2 years after purchase (not happy with LG anymore) After two failed repairs by others we finally turned to Art in the hopes that we could salvage this machine. Two local refrigerator repairmen said my venerable 1973 Sears Coldspot fridge was toast because it wasn't getting cold enough. One of them dropped by, removed the panel in back of the freezer compartment, and saw no frost on the coil. He pointed this out and told me the coil should be frost-covered at all times unless the fridge has run out of refrigerant. He added that it's illegal to put new refrigerant in my 43-year-old fridge because the refrigerant it requires has been banned. Thus the fridge is not repairable and must be taken to County Recycling. A 2nd repairman from another repair shop agreed with him when I mentioned we'd found no frost on the freezer coil. I was grief stricken because I'm in love with this fridge after its 43 years of super-quiet service. Most of what little noise it makes is subsonic---below the range of human hearing. So powerful it never needs to work hard and generate heat, the football-size compressor actually conserves energy and resources. It's designed to last a lifetime or more, and you cannot always tell when it's running or resting. I love the Coldspot's quietness, its style and cool brown color (impossible to find in new refrigerators) that matches my stove, the handsome wood-inlay upon the brushed aluminum and chrome handles, the strong metal shelves inside, incandescent interior lighting that's easy on your eyes, general simplicity, and the smooth way the doors open, close and tightly seal---smooth as the doors on a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. A salesman told me I should be prepared for the inferior quality of today's new fridges and recommended the new Whirlpool (the best of the lot, he said) for its quietness. But a reviewer remarked that his new Whirlpool was noisy, had many problems from the get go, and was purposely designed by the manufacturer to break down irreparably in only 5 to 10 years. So in search of a 3rd opinion I combed through Yelp and found Art the "Appliance Doctor." They all love him on Yelp. There had to be a reason, so I called him. Result: The fridge is not toast after all---far from it. Despite advice from the other appliance services, there's plenty of refrigerant in the high-quality sealed system which has no leaks after 43 years. Art, a truly marvelous repair person with extensive knowledge about vintage fridges, chuckled and explained that the lack of frost on the tubing behind the freezer is natural at the end of its regular defrost cycle. He troubleshot the real problem quickly, had a new, heavy-duty, ten-year starter relay in his truck, and he installed it. No clicks now when the compressor goes on and off. All the other repair people over the years have installed light-duty five-year starters that clicked, so I'm very grateful to Art for this ten-year part. Art also did something else no other maintenance techie has ever done. With a special brush, he cleaned the coils behind the kick plate. With that same brush, he scrubbed the condenser on both sides, using this amazing brush in conjunction with the brush attachment and powerful suction of my Kirby vacuum cleaner hose. Like some kind of ninja, he slipped a smooth, hard, eighth-inch plastic sheet beneath the heavy fridge that allowed him to effortlessly pull it out and return it into its alcove without disturbing a single thread of the all-weather carpeting. No other maintenance techie has ever done this either. They all just mangled the carpet instead. The condenser is immaculate now, and so is the entire area behind the kick plate. The fridge no longer has to fight through layers of dust, and runs freely. It's good to go for another decade at least. Art worked several hours but stuck to his estimate. He's a true pro, and I'm happy as a kid at Christmas. read more

Art is the man! I had a washing machine disaster the day of travel for a month. My clothes sat in water and molded in the washing machine, and I came home to stench. I called a few other places and no one would help me with an LG Tromm model, which I guess is more finicky than other models. This was without the heads up on the extent of the issue, only on sharing it was an LG! Art gave me a "no problem." When I urged him that I needed help right away, he promised to squeeze me in on a busy day. He came over after hours at 6:00pm and stayed almost three hours. He opened the washing machine up, diagnosed the issue, and even cleaned it all up for me. He waited and tested and was very, very thorough. On top of the great job and service, he provided good conversation too, clearing showing he's a very bright gentleman. I wish I had the washing machine serviced sooner b/c she hasn't been purring like this since the first year we got it, and has never been the same since our move. He gives a 1 year warranty on his work, which is great too, knowing you're getting the job done right! I hope not to have to call Art for much, but certainly will recommend him to any one I know in Sonoma County with an appliance issue. read more

He quickly performed a diagnosis on our LG Dishwasher and proceeded to efficiently disassemble the DW and replace the defective heating element-diverter motor-switch-chopper blade. This LG Dishwasher is 7+ years old and nightmare to work on without the right tools and experience. Art spent the time required to get us up and running. FYI, it took a while.
