I love this spot...there is something funky about the way it smells, thought...but then again, I'm an aroma snob, and get easily annoyed by both extremely strong nice smells as well as not-so-kosher ones. I don't know anything about their food aside the one appetizer (cheese and fruit platter) which is decent, and it's pretty nice to go along with the wine. Good selection of reds and whites, not impressive but one has the chance to select from a fairly good list. Although is usually packed, Ryan and I went there on a date and had a great time! We were lucky enough to find a sofa inside, and had a nice, intimate conversation while sipping some good happy drinks! It can be loud and crowded but, yes, it's a bar and bars that are in fashion are supposed to be packed, and noisy. But then again, there was that strange smell. Apre Diem is one of those default places if you're looking to get coffee or a drink with friends but want a relatively low key night. It's good only because it is open late. I wouldn't say there is anything in particular that I like. The food is mediocre and the desserts aren't really that great unless you just want a filling cake and sugar rush. There's usually a DJ on the busier nights, who hangs out in a corner. The side room with couches is nice, but it's a crap shoot when it comes to whether there is a seat back there. The entire restaurant is really crowded and loud. Writing this review makes me wonder why I ever even bother coming here anymore. I guess it is just one of those comfortable places when you're in the area and don't know what else to do. BTW, GL parking...I'm not sure where all the people are, but the parking lot is usually packed on nights. read more

Great place for drinks. The music is as eclectic as the crowd and the wait staff is friendly and very pleasing to the eye. The main draw for me besides the music is the couch space. It's very comfortable and inviting. I have to agree with Tatyana with respect to the food with the exception of the mussels in white wine sauce. A tad salty but very good. The crowd can be a little fake, but if you go with friends, who cares about some posers next to you. So, if you are looking for great music and a couch to chill on other than your own, I suggest Apres. read more

I have had many a good meal at Apres Diem - though I sometimes feel like their menu is limited, everything I'd tried has been very good. I love their pasta dishes. I've also been for brunch and had a good time - they had great breakfast potatoes and an interesting menu (yes, steak benedict is good!). The environment is very cool - outside and inside. Plus, there's that delish dessert counter. I agree with some of the other comments that I haven't always had the fastest, most consistent service here, but I've never had any real problems. I came here on memorial day with a man, a girl friend, and her dog. We sat out on the patio (on the very edge, but they bent the rules so we could sit in the shade with the dog in an area where dogs normally are not allowed rather than in full sun in the dog-friendly area) and had generally a lovely lunch. It was really hot and I saw another patron drinking what looked like an ice-cold glass of white wine - normally I don't drink in the middle of the day but I HAD to have one and they delivered. Ice cold, refreshing, tasty Pinot Grigio. I also had the Fattoush Salad with chicken - the salad was delicious, especially the eggplant, which is roasted until it melts in your mouth and perfectly spiced with delicious, pungent Middle Eastern Spices. The salad was lightly dressed and had a really well-balanced flavor. My companions had a turkey sandwich (with bacon, mango chutney, and avocado) and gyros, respectively, and they both said their food was delicious. Overall, the food was great and exceeded my expectations for food served at a restaurant in a strip mall - I just wish it were a bit cheaper. read more

When it rains I go to bars and this one is a good spot for a rainy evening. (Side note: great place for sunshine too as the patio is awesome) The low lit lights accented the dark stormy night. The full bar is stocked with an extensive collection and houses a nice wine and beer list which is alway a plus. I had the crab cakes although not the bed were quite good for the price point and not too much filler. Ok, I have mixed feelings about Apres Diem. Being a 2 minute walk from my apt, I'm pretty sure I've been there at least 30 times in the 2 years I have lived in Atlanta. So, why not a list then? The Good: They serve food/drinks till late, and its pretty decent bistro food A good place to get a drink before/after dinner or a movie. Good patio, great people watching, and overall good energy Good place for a group/pre-party; Free wi-fi The Bad: Service can be hit or miss. Food can get repetitive if you eat here enough. Service can be hit or miss...seriously The Ugly: Unless you, yourself are ugly, there is nothing ugly about this place, or the people who work there! When all is said and done, I still find myself going here when folks come in town to visit. The atmosphere is hard to beat, the food is pretty good, and its overall not too expensive for what they are trying to do. NOTE: For me, this place started out a 5, became a 4 after the next few visits, and now its pretty much in the 3 to 4 range....depending on the visit. I went with a large group recently (8) and we waited forty five minutes for our food. They sat us outside with heaters, but it was still freezing. Service was slow and food was mediocre. This place has fond memories for me. I recently went back and it was awful. First, the service was really bad. Our server really never cared about our table. He did not welcomed us, told us about the specials, or served us water until we asked. It was so bad that he handed us our bill on our walk back from the bathroom. Second, the food was nowhere near as good as it once was. Overcooked, small portions and high prices. We spoke to manager about our experience and she really did not want our feedback. I got the feeling that she did not care. I am not sure what has happened but Après has really gone downhill. I will not be going back. After too many slow and arduous experiences at Apres Diem, now I'll only go there if I have time to kill before a movie and can't convince whoever is with me that they won't get their ass kicked at the Highlander instead. Sitting at the bar is your best bet if you're trying to get out of Apres Diem in less than an hour. The servers on the floor are good, but the place seems understaffed. The desserts are good, but it's so smoky if you're sitting inside that everything ends up tasting smoky as well. I imagine it would be a much better experience for lunch or a slow night, but in general it's not for me. read more

Cute restaurant that i stumbled upon after my 3 hour yoga class next door. Had a really tasty Caesar salad with tiger shrimp. Shrimp were a decent size and salad was nice and crisp. Had a nice glass of Moscato to top it off. Recommend if you are in this area. read more

Apres Diem, why do you have me so torn? Well, simply put, the food is pretty great and the drink selection is solid. The restaurant is also located next door to the finest arthouse theater in Atlanta, Landmark Midtown Art Cinema. There are several nice tables on the patio, which is perfect for people watching. There are plenty of nice things to say about Apres Diem. Of course, you have to consider the service staff, and that, by far, is the worst part of this restaurant. I've been there more times than can I count, and I would say that about 70% of the time I'm disappointed with the service. At best, the servers here are absent-minded, flighty or forgetful. At worst, they don't exist. Don't go here if your movie starts in less than half an hour. In fact, don't go here if you have scheduled plans. I recommend the restaurant, but it's simply impossible to be timely with it. Go when your post-dinner evening consists of no other plans. A shame, really. read more

The brunch options were great! We tried the crab cake Benedict and the scallop and shrimp grits. Both were great but I loved the scallop and shrimp grits and I don't usually like grits. This place was definitely not what we expected it to be. We went after watching a movie (which is how we were suckered in - we were hungry and it was convenient, why not!). The service was unfortunately lacking in several areas: took forever to have our orders taken food took forever to come which was not apologized for, and we weren't checked on after being served. The whole thing just seemed like a giant waiting game. Plus the food was COLD when it came (which all came at the same time, the appetizers and the entree). Overall I can see why people go to this place. It's convenient. But do yourself a favor and drive five minutes to any other place in Midtown next time you're leaving the theater! read more

One of the several reasons I enjoy midtown Atlanta is the Midtown Plaza Shopping Center where all sorts of restaurants, bars and even a theater reside. I roll into this part of town regularly. Apres Diem is a personal fave due to the vibe and eclectic mix of people. I've never been overly sold on their menu, it desperately needs a revamp although their hummus plate is to be raved about. My friend had the dried fruit salad, which she wanted me to let you know was very yummy. I went with the mussels, curiously not on the menu, though I had ordered it there before. Maybe it was a lunch item? Who knows. The mussels, as you know, can be a bit unwieldly, although so worth it. That broth is fantastic. Throughout the night we were listening to a UK dj who was on the wheels of steel, dude was impressive. Went from 70's soul, to latin, to house...flawlessly. I was movin' and groovin' the whole night. I was not impressed by this joint. The layout wasn't bad and the menu looked decent, but it was the service which dragged the rating down. I sat at the bar, as I often do, to grab a drink while waiting for a friend. It seems I didn't fit the mold they were looking for so I was ignored for a majority of the time I was sitting there. When I did order food, which did not impress either, I couldn't get a single refill on my water to save my life. If you've been to this place you know the bar is not that big, so you'll understand why being ignored on this scale was even more insulting than usual. I wasn't on a date and I didn't dress like most of the clientele, but does that mean I should be marginalized when my money spends the same as theirs? This place reeked of mediocre. The dessert shelves paled in comparison to places like Intermezzo Cafe. The drinks failed to pop. The bartenders didn't grasp the concept of "taking care of the patrons". I convened with some girls there last night, excited to sip what I used to consider the best Pimm's Cup in the city: a fizzy libation swimming in lemon pulp. However, the drink I received was flat and accented with middle-aged julienned cucumber. Sorry, Apres, but Parish now has overtaken your Number One title. We were supposed to catch the new Sex and the City flick at the Midtown Art Cinema next door but ended up talking at the table instead. Apres was advertising a pretty sweet Sex and the City-themed deal. For just $20, patrons receive a movie pass, a martini and an appetizer. How the servers deliver items to the tables without doing the same, it baffles me But for all the maze-like paths in this place, it's kind of a cool joint. Fun place to go with friends or a date. The menu has plenty of things to accommodate everyone. The back room lounge is great for a party and they keep pretty late hours. Parking is free but because the lot is shared with several other places including a movie theater, it can be difficult to find a spot nearby. Don't even think about parking illegally... Decided to come here after catching a movie in the same complex for a late brunch on Sunday and we were not disappointed. First off, the atmosphere is very midtown-y and trendy. Definitely has a young professionals feel but wasn't stuffy. We sat outside and were able to enjoy the last few minutes of sunlight. I started off with a Bloody Mary, which was very tasty. For the entrees, we got the salmon ciabatta and grass-fed angus burger. Both came with fries and a small salad and were awesome. Both were also $13, which is way cheaper than what I would've imagined for the location of the restaurant. Great service, atmosphere, delicious food, and cheap prices. You can't beat that! read more

Desserts are good since they come from Alon's - a top notch specialty food store and bakery in the Highlands. Good place to people watch since they tend to be a bit more colorful here than a typical Midtown crowd: ghetto-fabulous Eastern Europeans, hipsters and some khakies, as well as all kinds of foreigners flock to this Parisian Cafe wannabe. The couches are way comfy, the service was much better than my past experiences because before DAVID, I always had an aversion for getting served at the tables here since my luck had it I always got the same "forgetful" waitress. I am extremely pleased with his service to a point where I think I want to created a "servers yelp" and rate servers! The art on the wall was something else. There was a piece of crap made up of twigs, ropes, brush rags and some other garbage placed for display and asking $1,700. Hell Nah. my dog can scoot on the rug and then piss on the corner and I would have a better piece of art than that...but Kudos for Apres Diem's artistic push! We came here on a whim last night (Atlanta Botanical Gardens Holiday Lights were sold out). For a Tuesday night, it was surprisingly busy. The drinks were fine. I had two glasses of pinot noir and they were pretty full glasses, which I appreciated. They have $5 Tuesday tapas but none of the specials sounded really appetizing. I wasn't that hungry because I did have a light dinner so I just ordered the spicy shrimp special and a side baguette. The spicy shrimp were definitely spicy but I didn't love the sauce. It had a lot of bold and harsh flavors, including too much pepper and I LOVE black pepper. I ate the 5 shrimp and left the sauce and most of the baguette (which I ordered to sop up the sauce) behind. My date ordered the turkey sandwich. Our waiter brought out a grilled chicken sandwich. The waiter apologized and took it back but then proceeded to charge us for both the turkey sandwich AND the chicken sandwich so we said something and he took it off the bill. I had a bite of the turkey sandwich and it was really good, one of the better turkey sandwiches I've had. It's not just a typical lunch meat style sandwich, there's a lot of turkey, topped with sinful ingredients like bacon, avocado, and Gouda. Yum! I would order that again. read more

But the service. Sweet God, the service. I am consistently amazed at how frequently servers in this city seem to be encouraged to be rude. Our waitress ignored us for ten minutes. She then came back with our drinks, took our order, and disappeared until we were ready for a check. I watched her check on other tables' satisfaction with their meals, but we got no such courtesy. Shortly before rude server #2 came out with our food, we saw another table literally yell and chase after #1 for their check. We had to do the same at the close of our meal. I saw someone who appeared to be management strolling around the patio, checking on other tables, and hoped he'd be by ours. But he kept suspiciously distant from our server's section, which means he probably knew what he was in for if he solicited an opinion about her. We'll probably go back, but if [insert mousy-brown-haired server's name here...I would, but she was smart enough not to say her name] comes near our table, we're running the other direction. read more

Just read some of your reviews, and I'll see say this -- Yeah, some the workers can be a bit plucky... Yeah, some of the patrons can be pretentious... Yeah, the food is higher than it should be... blah, blah, blah... But that's because this place is good at what they do, so its busy enough to have its hiccups now and then. A sexy way to end the day or spend some time snuggling in a dark sanctuary. That is Apres Diem. I'd been here once with some girlfriends and have been back quite a few times, either with a group or a drinking buddy. It's been fun each and every time. It's more about the atmosphere than the appetizers or other food here. I've had some great things to nibble on, but I think my enjoyment can be credited to the lounging opportunity versus the plates of food. I will say, however, that Apres Diem is one of the few places to get a good brunch. Be careful to lock your car up in this parking lot. Apres Diem is the ideal place to finish your evening. Go there after the movies (which are right next door) when you're in the mood for a glass of wine and a slice of cake. I went last Saturday around 6 p.m. It was dark inside, so maybe that's why our server rammed into our table. But there was sill no excuse for her to poor my friend's beer so quickly that it foamed out of control and spilled all over the floor. And she loses major points for not offering him a new beer. I have never been disappointed in my several experiences with "The Diem" and there is one occasion that stands out because I had the best time! I planned a social and the GM Shannon was the best. She worked with me to ensure that the event was a success. The social was in the lounge area (which is in the back of the restaurant). We sat on couches with candles lit everywhere...it was very intimate atmosphere. Perfect for a social. Our server David was the best- very entertaining. The best part...$5 vodka drinks and $5 tapas. I had a gathering here around 3pm on a Sunday and the service was great! Our server was very cool about splittig the check and out orders cane out quickly and correct in a short amount of time! The food was really good & I liked the diverity of ther menu + almost all is less than $10. The lounge area was clean and comfortable and even on a muggy afternoon we weren't too hot or bothered with bugs. I will definitely be coming back here & the only reason why I didn't give it 4 stars is because they charged me a fee for bringing my own birthday cupcakes! read more
