The door is has an outer Japanese style cloth like you see in the movies. Once you walk in the staff is friendly and we got luckily seated as we got there at opening 430pm. Ordered the arata style for 3, sashimi special, sushi and sashimi special, ramen, and 2 rolls (scallop and yellow tail). The house styled sushi had unique sauces including corn mayonnaise with tuna, cilantro fried garlic with salmon, and spicy pepper with yellow tail. The fish quality was normal, but the portions are generous. The ramen is great if you love veggies and warming soup. The rolls were really not needed as the other plates were enough. Great sushi and it is clear they are stringently following all precautions for covid. The omakase is a must try and reasonably priced for what it is. They have excellent o-toro and various other dishes as well. The Ramen was somewhat mediocre and tasted more like a shoyu broth than tonkatsu, I'd stick to the sushi which is amazing. I hope to go there in person someday when they open their dining room! The only suggest I'd have is that it would be cool if the omakase was packaged more beautifully as is the trend from many of the omakase delivery places in the city. "Give the people what they want..." is a common quote, usually followed by "and they'll come", but I've heard it followed by the snarky "and they'll get what they deserve". It's all a matter of perspective it seems, from mine it certainly looks like Arata gives the people what they want! They can pack them in inside this dimly lit space that makes you feel transported miles away from the main road traffic outside. Cool music in the air as my ears picks up Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" as I look over the menu I think to myself "I hope so!" Service is very good and efficient as the server goes over menu specials that honestly I have a bit of trouble hearing and following. We know the Arata Sushi seems like the thing to get so we get 2 five piece orders and he asks if we like oysters, we do, as he offers some Pacific Kumamoto ones which normally comes 3 to an order, but says he can do 4 so we get 2 each. We also order a kani salad, as we look over the large special rolls menu. We decide on the American Standard and Angry Roll after hearing his suggestions. Arata's majority of their menu is about creating interesting combinations to hopefully compliment the fish - the Arata Sushi is a study in that. Some work better than others - my least favorite was "black bean and kefir lime" sauce topped piece, which struck a flat, bitter note. The slightly sweet, perhaps yuzu citrus sauced, yellowtail seemed to work well able to bring out the flavor of the fish best. The Kumamoto oysters were perfectly dressed - fantastic. For the special rolls, I preferred the Angry Roll with the mango and jalapeno complimenting the flavors best. The majority of NY sushi eaters love special rolls with funky combinations so it makes sense to give them what they want. You'll be hard pressed to find more freshly made and interesting combinations than this place. My own tastes lean more towards simple pieces of sashimi and sushi that focus on the quality of fish solely so Arata may not be a frequent stop of mine, but by all means come here and get what you deserve! read more

I had the Omakase 10 pieces for $50 all tasted great and I like the little sauces they put in certain pieces to help accentuate and highlight the flavors! This place has the best and fattiest eel I've ever had not sure of its farm raised or sea elk but it was great and humongous ginormous pieces had to order it twice as a matter of fact. Thank me later! I can't remember what else I ordered as it was a blur but I know I left thoroughly satisfied and impressed. I would repeat and I recommend for those looking for an affordable tasty Omakase experience that didn't break the bank. Three words: Arata Style sushi! It's like a mini Omakase experience. Each bite is delectable and so beautiful and thoughtfully crafted. For an appetizer, try the Spicy Tuna Crispy Kale! It's a relatively small restaurant, so I'd recommend making a reservation in advance on the weekends. read more

TLDR; Food was delicious overall and service was great. Place is accommodating for families with small children. We made a reservation at 530 for 4 adults and 1 baby. They gave us a high chair for the baby. They gave is waters with lemon for the adults and a small cup with a bendy straw for the baby. It was pretty empty at this point, but filled up quite fast after we put our order in. The waiter was great. He came around a few times for drinks, then appetizers then entrees. We didn't get any drinks, but ordered shisito peppers for an app. I really liked that they waited until we fully ate all the peppers and the entrees came before taking away the first dish (some places take away the app dish even when there's still food left because entrees are coming). Three of us got two sets of rolls and they came first. Then a bowl of udon noodles and chicken teriyaki shortly came after. All of the food was pretty good and the waiter asked if we needed everything and how everything tasted. My rolls were good minus the leaves on top of the love roll. I forgot what was on top but it had an herbally or floral taste to it that made me take off all the leaves. Overall, I think the fish was good quality and tasted delicious. When we left I left my mittens and one of the waitresses came running out to get them back to me, even when it was a bit rainy and wet out. I really appreciated the kind staff there. Came in the back door and wiggling ourselves to the front counter....."Do you have a reservation".........uh no........."well you can eat here if you eat fast".......well we took the offer figuring possession is 9/10ths of the law, but could have done without the drama. Anyway ordered some kind of cucumber sake cocktail that tasted something like a margarita on the rocks....... really good. We ordered the Arata style sushi, where the chef combines some variious Nigiri (fish on rice) with some combo's of various garnishes and sauces, each one we had was really flavorful and the chefs did a great job of coming up with the combinations for this. I also ordered the Sushi dinner to try out their flair for the traditional. I wasn't as impressed as the effort that was put into the Arata style. We used to love this place, but last night was surely disappointing. We haven't been to Arata for almost a year and were so excited to finally visit it again, but had absolutely terrible experience. Sushi choices and quality are mediocre to say the least. Rice was barely edible, so we ended up leaving most of it, and though we didn't bring it up, staff didn't bother asking either as to why they were taking mostly untouched roll back. As for their bar, it was another disappointment, as they now only serve drinks with sake, no other alcohol is available (besides few beer and wine options). Too over price and the food is not the best quality. I tried sea bass very sweet and greasy not at all worth ordering. Then we tried the lobster roll it was horrible tasteless I was wondering if it really had lobster or just fake crab meat. Also the garden salad was drench in their salad dressing which it was nasty .There was more rolls we didn't like but don't have the menu to remembered. My husband and I decided to try this place out since we were both craving Japanese food and we ended up having the perfect NYE dinner here. We made a reservation for 7 pm but arrived slighly early at 6:40 and our table was already reserved for us so we were seated immediately. Please keep in mind parking may be a bit difficult depending on what time you come because there is only metered parking in the front of the restaurant. It is located on a block with a bunch of other businesses as well. Our server, Santo was very accommodating and explained all the 3 specials in detail while also inquiring if we had any food allergies. He gave us some excellent recommendations, always checked on us to see if everything's okay and made sure we always had water in our cups. I got the kani salad (creamy crab stick, crunchy panko and cucumber with tobiko), the 5 pc (omakase) Arata style sushi and their signature, love roll (spicy crunchy tuna and avocado topped with seared tuna and salmon with yuzu dressing) while my husband who loves eel, got the unagi labyrinth roll, eel sushi and eel cucumber roll. We also got the green tea tempura ice cream to share for dessert. All the sushi was fresh, creative and tasty. And the kani salad was the best I've ever had. Everything...the food, dessert and service were excellent and price was cost efficient because we paid $115 dollar for 2 people including tips. Sorry Sakaya but this is now the best Japanese restaurant we have had on Long Island and it will be our go to spot whenever we have a craving for sushi in the future. read more

The food was great and the service was outstanding. Big restaurant with lots of seating and very friendly staff. My girlfriend and I are new to the area and didn't honestly know what to expect on long island as we usually had eaten in manhattan. After reading several reviews about Arata we decided to try it. The staff was so friendly and helpful in explaining the menu. I had a spicy seafood soup to start that was excellent and then we tried the chefs special five piece assortment and it was really very good- no need to add any sauce it was already on top and each piece was delicious. Aside from that, we had some yellowtail, sea urchin, and tuna sashimi that was excellent. And lastly we had the ice cream desert special which was also very good. Oh my goodness Arata is here in Syosset and its one of the finest sushi spots around! I have come here a few times it has a sparse decor heavy dark wood tables & charis & little fake candle lights adorn every table sparse is awesome when it comes to this Arata beautiful sushi roll presentation I had a "special roll" with "torched rice and spicy tuna so good and crunchy I crave this as I type. ice water served with lemon was a refreshing treat lovely service you can not go wrong with a roll from Arata park in the back the street is too hectic for me read more
