I recently had the pleasure of meeting some of my best friends at Arco Cafe. Two of my friends eat there on a regular basis. It's an authentic Sardinian restaurant; even our waitress was Sardinian - Francesca Fiori. She and her brother Daniele run the place. You can tell she really loves her job. I was so impressed by all the food. Everything was exquisitely prepared. But the real star of the show was the Foccacia Burrata, mortadella and pistachio. I'm not usually a fan of foccacia but this was just heaven on a plate! I could see that some people ordered it as a main dish. Came here with my friend for Restaurant Week (or rather month in this case) and was very pleased with the overall experience. First thing I noticed was that Arco Cafe has a pretty cute outdoor seating area, and the inside is also pretty spacious for NYC. We ordered the mediterranean salad, calamari and peas, spaghetti carbonara, and Malloreddos Integrali. Everything that was served to us, including the free bread, tasted super fresh, cooked perfectly and seasoned well (which is surprisingly a lot to ask for sometimes). The waitress was also nice and friendly and helped recommend a few pasta dishes. We did notice the pasta dishes took a while to come out, which was about the only negative thing to note. Overall i'd give this place 4.5/5 stars, and I'm interested in trying their other dishes, since most of their menu sounded quite delicious. read more

Pretty authentic Italian food with fresh pasta for purchase if you wanted to make it at home later! We got a burrata to a start I got the Parmesan gnocchi and my friend got seafood spaghetti. I'm not sure why, or if I'm just not used to authentic Italian gnocchi but it got soggier the longer that it sat in the sauce. Our meal came with complimentary bread which I would suggest making sure it's heated up before! The service was fantastic. I LOVE Arco Cafe! The food is absolutely delicious and authentic, not just authentic Italian, but authentic taste in authentic food itself. They're cooking - - which is like home cooking - is designed to maximize the subtleties and deliciousness of their recipes and enhance the food itself. Never had I didn't think was scrumptious here. Love the soup, kale salad, any pasta is spectacular, dessert is divine and even the coffee is delicious. Francesca is the perfect restaurant; she cares about her customers and wants to make us happy. My old friend who is a native NYer chose "Arco" for my husband & my long-overdue visit back to NY. I've never been to Sardinia, (in Italian, Sardegna), but we've lived in Italy, so were eager to try it. It was a delightful place, with excellent very Italian or bonafide Sardinian pasta choices. We sat near the street, in a sort of outdoor, but enclosed/patio area. The server, Francesca, was one of the co-owners she said, and was very welcoming & charming. I wanted to order what was the most Sardinian dish. The lovely server recommended ravioli w/potato, cheese & mint. I loved it! Clearly home-made, as she'd promised. We all enjoyed our pastas & the sauces. The only drawback to our evening was that a homeless, or perhaps mentally unstable, person kept coming into the restaurant, & chose us to focus on. I live two blocks away so I've probably been to Arco about 25 times over the years. It is a great, authentic, reliable place. I've had almost everything on the menu over the years. They have nightly specials and I tend to order those because they usually showcase particularly fresh ingredients and they're creative without trying too hard. Homey neighborhood Italian cafe but with one thing that sets it far apart from the other ones that border on the slightly generic: amazing food for a little bit less than the going average on the Upper West Side. I could definitely see myself going again and again. I came here for Mother's Day, slightly apprehensive that my mom wouldn't like it as much as a traditional Szechuan place. Well, she was blown away by the seafood. I can't speak to the pasta dishes but they all looked spectacular. We all picked fish entrees, as well as the arugula and melon salad and the calamari and zucchini to start. If you have to order one thing, it's the calamari. Perfectly battered. Could have eaten a whole plate of delicious deep-fried squid tentacles by myself. Now, for a round-up of the fish: I liked my dad's salmon the best. So good with the beet puree. Everything was really well-seasoned and tender. Sometimes branzino and bass can come out a bit over-cooked because the meat is so delicate. That wasn't a problem here. We all cleaned our plates. Despite being slammed by the holiday and there being only three of them running around and handling orders/drinks, the staff were friendly and took the time to snap a family picture. We had visited Sardinia this summer and were looking to find a wine dealer that sold vermentino. Google, luckily, misunderstood the assignment! We stumbled into this cozy nook on the UWS and were greeted by both authentic Sardinian and more typical italian-American fare. Our waitress had a good handle on the menu and pairing options, and the food came quick, well-portioned, and was so clearly fresh. They even sell house-made pasta to-go in case you wanted to replicate some malloreddus or fregola dishes at home. Okay. Since the last 5 years Arco has now cemented a spot in my heart as my go to for fresh pasta any day of the week. I loved that you can get a generous portion of pasta to cook at home. We often add store bought sauce to it and it is still * air kisses * delicious. You can't go wrong with anything here, though my tasting of the menu is limited as I don't eat pork or shellfish. Since the weather was so nice we requested to be seated outside. They have an amazing prix-fixe lunch special of 2 courses for $12. I ordered the bruschetta and carbonara pasta. My friend had the bruschetta with gnocci. The brushetta was a lot larger than we thought it would be. There were large chunks of tomato over toasted/grilled bread and a side of veggies. A really tasty and light app. The carbonara pasta was the only reason my review is 4 stars instead of 5. The pasta itself was extremely salty. I had to take a couple sips of water for every bite of pasta. Overall, I had a pleasant experience. The price and service was wonderful. I love Arco Cafe! We've had takeout and delivery from Arco multiple times over the past couple years, and the food has consistently been excellent. The prix fixe lunch special is a terrific deal. Two of my absolutely favorite restaurant treats/indulgences in recent months have been Arco Cafe's Fritto Misto (a mix of calamari and small bits of zucchini, fried in a light batter, with some lemon to squeeze on it) and -- in colder weather -- their Gnocchi with mushrooms and pancetta. (The fried artichoke heart appetizer is also done with a light hand.) A few other examples -- but truly, everything we've had has been enjoyable. The meatballs are really good, whether with white wine sauce or tomato. Nice, too, is the bit of focaccia and tomato sauce that comes with each order. As it's Sardinian food, the menu has some differences from the standards you'd expect in an Italian restaurant -- experiment! Recently ordered a pound of their fine fresh pasta for the first time, and the small shell-like malloredus (spelling?) made for several pleasant servings with various toppings that week. The times we've gotten a seafood dish or salads, they did not disappoint. And the tiramisu is so good, it is hard to resist. Lucky to have Arco in the neighborhood! read more

Oh Arco where have you been all my life! Ok I have to say right here right now, this is my new favorite restaurant. Anywhere, anytime. Small, friendly, authentic (Sardinian) Italian. The food is just breathtaking. And stomach-filling LOL When I arrived, a guy was behind a pasta station hand-rolling pasta and gnocchi. Ok so that's it, if you see someone making fresh pasta by hand, and hanging it on racks like they do in Italy, you KNOW you have to eat some of that. Forget your diet, forget the gym, forget your waistband. Arco did not disappoint. My food was 10 out of 10, apps, pasta, wine. Service was helpful and with a smile. Such a quaint unassuming restaurant, I've probably walked past it dozens of times but never noticed it. Well that's no more. I seriously can't wait to come back and eat some more or Arco's food. I found this place while craving pasta. It was a good decision to choose this place. I was just in Italy a few months ago, so having pasta like Italy is hard to find. But Arco Cafe's pasta will definitely not disappoint you. I ordered Caprese, Bruschetta, and Fettuccine alla Bolognese. The appetizers were very fresh; the mozzarella and the tomatoes were so juicy. The Fettuccine was just like pasta in Italy, the texture of it was harder which makes it harder to chew but thats how Italian pasta should be. The amount of meet in the pasta was exactly perfect. All I can say about this pasta is that it reminded me of pasta back in Italy. I highly recommend. But if you are not a fan of pasta being harder than usual, then rather not try this place. Friday at 8, no reservations. Started outside but got cold and were graciously shown inside to a booth. Octopus Salad (a special) 4.5 stars. The octopus was extraordinary and tender enough to cut with a spoon. 6 pieces were worth the $14, but the greens were bland. The citrus meant nothing and all of the non-octopus ingredients were wasted. The gnocchi!!! The gnocchi. The gnocchi with pancetta and cream sauce. 5 stars and then again. Fluffy homemade potato pillows begging to be eaten hot. Damn fine dish. Short-Rib special gets 4 stars because it wasn't all that tender but had great flavor. The cheese plate had a musty Asiago, average Provolone, and a bland, soft variety. I wouldn't order each again though I'm not angry about trying either item. Two bottles of mediocre wine (Malbec was sour and Montepulciano boring) plus two apps and two entrees for two ladies came to $200 with tip.
