This review is based on two visits. Typical AYCE Japanese sushi fare. Rolls are decent, have lots of rice. Appetizers are also pretty good. Spicy salmon and spicy yellowtail rolls are not served chopped up, but as whole pieces of fish. It's not bad, but its not standard. The tuna salad appy is very good and makes the price of the AYCE a bargain. What would otherwise be a five star experience is ruined by the restaurants small size, strange hours, rolls with too much rice, weird parking, and terrible location. Also beware the typical "food wastage" provision...eat everything if possible. Also, the atmosphere can get a bit loud, so try to show up on the early side, between 5-6:30. Make sure to make reservations if you show up on a weekend later. read more

Their sushi is the best bang for your buck! Each roll comes with 8 pieces, rather than 6 like most places. Their tuna roll and California roll are simple and delicious. Their special rolls, red dragon and geisha are my favorite. They're def worth a try. I've been going to this sushi location for over a decade. They've changed hands and names a few times but this is the best yet!! All-you-can-eat sushi for a great price. I'm never disappointed when I go. This is a great deal, $25 for all you can eat sushi and appetizers. The food tasted fresh and delicious and you can actually see where they make the sushi at the counter in the back. This was without a doubt, the worst sushi restaurant I have ever been to. Firstly, I was disappointed that they didn't serve sashimi, but I soon realized that was actually a blessing. Their fish is absolutely awful. I ordered a tuna salad and they gave me one small piece of salmon with lettuce and dressing dumped on the side. They didn't even bother to put the dressing on top of the damn salad! There was more rice than anything in their sushi, and the fish looked and tasted old. It was disgusting. So this just happened. Called ahead of time 2:20 knowing their lunch special stops at 3:00. They said if I got there before three I would be able to sit in and get served. I was there 2:35 living down the street(another reason North Haledon can't attract people with our terrible restaurant choices). They were all locked up and I am knocking for a few minutes to get the door opened. They said they were closed and I explained I literally just got off the phone with a gentleman who said I could come by. She denied me not very apologetically. Then she closed the door and came back and said, "take out only". I work in sales and out of my car so I try not to eat in my car too much. Then she closed the door and came back and said "only eat in if you order all you can eat, k?" I said I wasn't planning on it but okay I guess. She said you can only order once though. At that point I told her there were other options in the area and I wouldn't be doing there today and most likely in the future. Couldn't believe they didn't honor it after I was just told over the phone. And the non apologetic manner of her approach was the nail in the coffin. Well, this is why Wyckoff, Ridgewood, Glen Rock are killing it and North Haledon can't even hold up a run of the mill Japanese restaurant. Two stars because I've eaten there a couple of times before and while I can't remember it, it was not awful. Come on North Haledon! Step it up! Get some restaurants, attract better clientele and keep our house prices stable as we know the school system can't do it. read more

We love to try all you can eat sushi spots around NJ. This place was a good pick. The only con I would say is the options for appetizers - there aren't a lot, like the other AYCE sushi spots. But you do get more of the app than other spots. For example, I ordered shumai and it came with 6 pieces, and it was delicious!! The sushi was also delicious. Arigato is a nice atmosphere, decent service, low-key kind of place. Caution to those who are used to other AYCE portion sizes - the portions here are full sized. They also have a selection of huge special rolls included in the AYCE. Here's what we sampled: Free appetizers - deep fried tuna bites (awesome) and spicy tuna meatballs (just okay, not really my thing) Miso soup - good, average Tempura - excellent, especially the onion and shrimp Green salad - huge and surprisingly wonderful, included avocado and terrific ginger dressing Veggie gyoza - pretty yummy Edamame - super fresh, but they didn't have salt and advised to use soy sauce, not my fav Sushi (assorted) - good, not the best I've ever had, but certainly satisfying Viagra roll (yes, really) - this was a soft shell crab creation - not my thing, but well prepared and presented Fruit - pineapple and orange - served as dessert (and no other desserts on regular menu). Came here pretty late one night for dinner; it was less than an hr before they close actually. the food was pretty good for AYCE sushi. staff was friendly; did not feel rushed at all. got a couple complimentary items, i believe it was fried tuna or something like that and it was GOOD! I'm glad I found this place because it's not TOO far from my house and the food is good while the price is even better. Its price considering the quality of food I had is well worth the trip alone. I grew up in this area but only been inside as a kid many ages ago. I have always lived around the area but never thought of coming here until this past week. I was completely mind blown !!!! It's a cozy small restaurant with great quality sushi. I'm really picky with my sushi and this has to be my favorite. The quality is great- the rice is warm and well seasoned. I've been twice in past week and I can't wait to be back. They have such a great deal for the all you eat. It's around 23 per person but it's ALL you can eat. As someone who lives in North Haledon, I was so happy that this place opened up. I'm a big sushi fan and having a really good sushi restaurant down the street allowed me and the gf to be able to come home from a long day at work and not worry about driving 15 minutes for good sushi. With that being said, I've tried almost all the rolls on the menu and they're all very delicious. They give you free appetizers that make your mouth water and they give you a diced orange and a diced pineapple after you've eaten. Also, you get a nice bang for your buck and friendly service. The food is generally the most important factor for me in choosing a place to eat. I can forgive less than stellar service. To be fair the food here is decent considering it is all you can eat, which usually equates to terrible sushi. But this is the only place I can remember walking out because of the service. I have been there 3 times. First time I didn't really notice the service, it wasn't bad but it wasn't great. The food was surprisingly good considering it was all you can eat sushi. Second time I went with a friend and the service was notably bad which my friend commented on but not enough to write the place off. We also overheard another table complaining about the service. The third time the servers comments and attitude caused me to leave without sitting down. In all three cases it was a young Asian girl who was the only server I have ever seen there. read more

Love this sushi spot. Been here twice for AYCE since I moved into town 2 weeks ago. It's nothing like the other places I've been too. They specialize in their special rolls for AYCE. Keep in mind that means NO SASHIMI ::insert sad face here::! They also only let you submit appetizer options once. Just something to note. Their special rolls are ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. The kamikaze is my ABSOLUTE favorite sushi roll of ANY place to date. It's a lighter roll with a little kick (SPICY MAYO ALL OVER MY BODY PLEASE) and 3 types of tobiko/ikura on top to give you that popping texture. PLEASE get this roll when you come here. I do think they should offer more rolls that are not tempura style since the AYCE menu is a bit saturated with fried rolls. Either way, rolls are outstandingly delicious. Their appetizers are also out of this world. Couldn't bring them to 5 stars based on other AYCE sushi places offering sashimi and the option to order the apps/little plates at any point during your meal. Service, food presentation, and flavor are all 5 stars. Give this place a try especially if you're feeling adventurous sushi rolls! Make a reservation if it's a weekend; place is cozy! read more

This place is one of my favorite sushi buffet places. The people are really nice and the owner is funny and remembers frequent clients. That to me is important because it shows her attention to detail. And if she has that attention to detail the quality pf food and cleanliness in the place reflects it. The place us clean, bathrooms included. Only complaint is that the prices went up and the valet contractor lost a key to a BMW. They did pay for the replacement but gave the run around. When this happened the owner was. Kind enough to offer apologies as well as a compensation fir the troubles. Came here for the $20 AYCE sushi. Restaurant is clean and modern looking. Service was good. It's a BYO. Some of the pieces of fish in the sushi roll were a little hard - but I imagine that's because they try to use every last piece of fish since it's AYCE. Overall, the rolls were very tasty. My favorite was the kamikaze roll. I actually like that they are smaller and more "bite size". I will definitely be back! read more

I went with my friend who is a regular at Arigato and they were not shy to show how appreciative they were of her as a customer. Kamikaze roll and soft shell crab appetizer were both delicious. Athought we did not eat there tonight service is a big part of a restaurant ... my wife got there 5 min before me at 7:30 and they told her that there would be nothing till 8:30 at the earliest. Now living in North Haledon my entire life I thought this was quite funny so I walked in and asked if they can take a party of three to witch she said sorry not until 8:30 but the problem was there were three open tables and one just finishing up. Being in the restaurant business for over 30 years I understood her hesitation but it made no sense so I told her I'm was willing to take one of the empty tables and wait a bit longer if they were to busy . Again she said no, so we left and headed to TC's, another restaurant the next town over. About five minutes after we left Arigato I called and asked if they could take three people in five to ten minutes to witch she said yes sure come on down ....... when I called her out on this she started back pedaling ...... hopefully next time We go the food can overcome the service experience.... I may change the one star but right now no.... it stands based on customer service only. Or lack there of.. read more
