    Eel Sushi

This is a small establishment in North Haledon, NJ. We were not very hungry but we didn't want to cook last holiday weekend (President Day). We just had Thai and Italian a few days ago, so we were in the mood for some Japanese. Instead of going to our usual restaurants in Bergen county, we decided to be a bit adventurous. We googled and found Arigato which is ranked quite high like 4.6 (on Google). We figured it is all-you- can-eat, you have a variety of items to choose from. There was only one couple when we arrived around 5:15pm. $32/person is typical for all-you-can-eat in Bergen County. Typically we would order 5-10 pieces of sashimi to share among us. We were surprised to find out sashimi was not included. Not a nice surprise but it is ok because we don't eat much of it anyway. We ordered a small salmon salad to share (tasted fine), then some sushi rolls. The fishes on the sushi did not look or taste fresh. The only one that didn't taste "fishy" is the salmon avocado. Every sushi except salmon avocado came with big chunk of rice underneath it. We were full quickly. I was not happy at all but we didn't want to take it out on the waitress who was really nice. I would rate the service to be 5 star (we were one of only two tables the whole 45 minutes) and food to be 1 star. I am really puzzled how they could earn 4.6 star rating with over 300 reviews.

First Time Picking Up Here. Absolutely Delicious. $61.45 for 4 Rolls & Crab Noodles & Bonus Roll. All Fantastic.

One of our favorite spots for AYCE Sushi! BYOB. Decent price. Fresh food. The servers are attentive and friendly. The restaurant/bathrooms are super clean! The appetizer choices include a little something for everyone. They have a lot of special rolls on the all you can eat menu. It's definitely easy to order too much food, so start slow because you are charged regular price for any leftovers. It's never happened to us because we finish everything, but it's in bold letters on the menu! I would highly recommend making a reservation most nights - it's a tiny place that gets busy!

A must try. Their variety of sushi is really good.

The sushi is great. However, the place is a little small and I don't feel comfortable sitting so close to other people. Other than that, it's pretty good.

This place is the greatest sushi place in the country. I have only been coming here for a couple of months but I can't stay away. I come back here every single week. The staff is so nice especially nicki and she remembers you and is just so welcoming. The food is amazing. I recommend trying the spicy tuna balls. I could eat like 100 of them. The sushi is top notch and fresh and the food comes out very fast and efficient. The place is byob and has a great view. Unfortunately because of Covid there is less seating but they are taking great precautions and doing every bring they can. If you are considering going here please give them a chance you will not regret it. The all you can eat is a great deal and there are so many great rolls to try. You will not be disappointed.

The sushi and other menu items are tasty but the place itself is rather small. Feels a little cramped. However, the prices are fair and the service is always good so I have no complaints. Update: Great place to get takeout! You can have fresh sushi in the comfort of your home or even order a platter to take on a picnic

This is small place in a quiet town with great food. I don't think picking it up does it justice. I'm not fan of all the one time use plastic containers and having the food sit, allowed it to overcook and cool down but it was still good. I got a Dinner Box, i chose salmon and chicken(they ran out of shrimp), it came with A California roll and some other little fried things (that I'm not sure what you call them) and salad. The chicken was pretty good. The salmon and the sushi were both delicious! The salad and chicken were both good as well. My wife got a chicken teriyaki Bento box, similar to the dinner box with one meat and no extra fried goodies. We also got a tuna avocado roll that was exceptional. We'll defiantly go back to this place. The sushi and salmon were both top notch. I'd avoid picking up from places like this because of all the one time plastic use, and I'm sure we would've enjoyed the food more if we ate it there.

I didn't see sashimi options. On the menu? Do they only serve rolls and sushi with rice?

We do have Sashimi options on the menu. Please check our A La Carte menu or take-out menu. Thank you

It's an intimate spot with only four teppanyaki tables, and we were seated promptly. My family has been going to hibachi for over 50 years to celebrate special occasions, so we know what to expect. Unfortunately, this visit was a total letdown. As is standard, we shared a table with another party--a family with three kids. Right away, there were red flags: the kids were hyped up on candy, spilling things, and spreading out so much that I was repeatedly bumped into and forced to eat off the edge of the table. Management and servers saw this unfolding but never intervened, even though they clearly knew the family. Then came our cook, "Chef John," and things went further downhill: Complete Lack of Engagement: Wearing a baseball cap instead of proper chef attire, Chef John spent the entire meal chatting with the other family (who were clearly regulars) while ignoring us like we weren't even there. No Showmanship: Teppanyaki is about the experience-- jokes, knife tricks, tossing shrimp, flipping eggs. Chef John did nothing beyond a single, basic onion volcano. Bland & Poorly Executed Food: The food lacked real flavor--no ginger or garlic, just heavy salt, pepper, and soy sauce. The steaks were hit-or-miss (the ribeye was moist, but the filet had dry sections), and seafood wasn't cut into bite-sized pieces for chopsticks. Order Snafu & Arguing: All three of us ordered steak and shrimp combos. He served full shrimp portions to two of us, but gave the third person only an appetizer portion. When we brought up the mistake--despite him confirming orders earlier--it turned into an uncomfortable debate over whether she was "entitled" to the rest of her meal. We eventually got the missing shrimp, but the damage was done. Between the chaotic table dynamic that staff ignored, zero entertainment, bland food, and having to argue for the food we ordered, it ruined a birthday celebration. I seriously doubt that we will be returning.

Solid local sushi spot with a chill vibe…read more Sushi and Sashimi Special ($75) - This party platter comes with 12 pieces of sushi, 18 pieces of sashimi, 6 piece spicy tuna naruto roll, and 6 piece california roll. I think it would be enough to feed 2 people, but if you have more than that, you probably want to order another roll or two. Everything here was pretty good. The fish seemed average freshness. The naruto roll was unique with cucumber around the outside, though the tuna was not really spicy. I specifically thought the sea bream (white fish) sashimi was good, as it had a creamy taste and consistency. Julie Roll ($15) - This roll was delicious, with a nice combo of yellowtail, salmon, and tuna in one roll. In addition, there was mango for some sweetness, avocado, and cucumber in there. It was topped with red fish eggs and had a soy wrapper around it, which made it a little unique. Beauty and Beast Roll ($15) - This is sort of a 2-in-1 roll, as half of the pieces have tuna on top and half have avocado on top. There is also shrimp tempura inside along with cucumber and eel. Another tasty roll. The restaurant has a very chill vibe inside. There were a couple others dining in as well for Sunday lunch. The staff are super friendly and even gave us a side of edamame on the house. The service speed was pretty quick. Overall, if you are in the mood for some sushi (either dining in or take-out), I think Nigiri Sushi would be a very good option, particularly if you are in the Franklin Lakes area.

They have valet parking. We had a whole hibachi table to ourselves. The table sizes are 8, 10 or 12. We had a table for 8 with an added chair, but I found it a little tight on my end. We got a few drinks at the bar while we waited for our party to arrive to be seated. One of our party was late, so we requested to be seated with 8. The chair was added later. I had a lychee martini at the bar and my husband got a non alcoholic float, both delicious. We paid separately at the bar for these drinks. Once seated, we ordered some apps and drinks. We started with wine, beer, karaage chicken, soft shell crab, gyoza and tempura medley. We later added veg spring rolls. The karaage chicken was tasty but not that crispy and I didn't love the crab taste, but very crispy. Gyoza and tempura were both good. Then came delicious onion soup, fresh salad, grilled shrimp app then the hibachi food. They cooked the vegetarian meal first, then seafood, then meats. They provide miso soup for vegetarians. He did the onion volcano but no tossing of food/drink into anyone's mouth. I ordered the zen scallops and tried some of the sirloin steak. The scallops and steak were tender and cooked perfectly. I liked both dipping sauces. People ordered steak, shrimp/salmon, tofu veg. For dessert, people ordered fried ice cream, mochi ice cream, and green tea ice cream. I had the mochi (3 flavors) and tried the green tea.
