The Armory is in my list of favorite establishments. My wife and I have recommended this place to all our friends. The food is awesome good and the atmosphere is neat too. I give this a two star rating solely because the dinning area is actually nice, along with the service. However, food was cold, and honestly there isn't much to select from. They focus way too much on their two meats and literally nothing else. I say that because the only food that looked hot was the two meats, and even then there wasn't many dishes with those meats. They have the best beer selection closest to Ashland. The pulled pork and brisket are great but the ribs are nothing to write home about. I have still yet to receive an Amish roll with my dinner. We have eaten at the Armory Smokehouse probably about 30 times. There have only been about 5 of those times that everything went well. Don't get me wrong, the food has always been good. It's the service and the timelines of the food from the kitchen that has always been the problem. At least 3 times we have been seated after a long wait, only to wait forever and a server never comes to our table. Then we've have to flag down a server to see why we haven't seen one yet. 2 of those times we were told "Oh. You were seated in section without a server." Today we waited 45 minutes for a table, which is probably normal there for a Saturday at supper time. Then we ordered our drinks and some stuffed mushrooms. (Those stuffed shrooms are delicious.) The mushrooms arrived fairly quickly, but we had no drinks or plates to eat the mushrooms. A server finally showed up without our drinks, and then had to go get them as well as some plates, and when he finally returned the mushrooms were just barely warm. After a very long wait again, the server finally took our food order. Then we waiting 1 hour and 45 minutes for our food. We asked for the manager after 1 hour 15 min wait, but the manager didn't show up until after we had eaten. Anyway, this sort of trouble has plagued most of our times eating here. It seems like they have lots of trouble keeping the restaurant running smoothly, even though it seems like employees are everywhere you look. read more

Probably the best smokehouse food I've had from Carolinas to Texas. The food is out of this world. The restaurant is themed with military pictures and odds and ends, as it is the site of a former National Guard armory. There is also an Amish bakery called Troyers attached to the building, which makes the biggest wagon wheel donuts you've ever seen! As far as side dishes, the smoked Mac n cheese is absolutely amazing. The baked beans are phenomenal. The signature desert is the real deal. A warm Amish wagon wheel donut, with vanilla bean ice cream, drizzled in chocolate and caramel. Get two spoons, because it's plenty to share! read more

I like the fact that it's in an old armory. We have a lot of veterans in our family. So we appreciate that. However, I wasnt impressed with the service. It wasnt horrible but could be improved upon. The food was just ok. The meat part of the entree was cold and not very seasoned. The sides were good. Definitely recommend the green beans or baked beans. Would probably go back and try again as we went an hour before closing so not super fresh. read more

I have a mixed review of this restaurant. I have had okay experiences and I have had absolutely horrible experiences. The horrible ones outweigh the okay ones. This will be my last time giving it a chance as I have continually excused the bad service and cold food. This time, a couple of teenagers were running the front. Forgetting to seat people, had no clue what they were doing, and my order took over 50 minutes past the time I was originally told (although this wasn't their fault). I was missing two sides, no sauce that I asked for, no rolls, meat was barely warm (which is what I was told took so long), sweet potato was literally just a sweet potato barely cooked with no toppings. People were leaving the restaurant fed up as I waited for my food. If it were the first time this happened, I would excuse it as just a bad day, but sadly it's not the first time. It's either an okay or horrible experience, no inbetween. The food is not worth the price to have this dining experience, especially when half of your order is missing every time. read more

Just recently tried this restaurant and I now know why people rave about their experience. I got the steak, baked beans, and a salad. I cleaned my plate! It was all delicious. My husband got the brisket sandwich and the macaroni and cheese. It was delicious as well! Then we treated ourselves to the donut dessert. Everything was delicious. The service was great and we waited maybe 10 minutes on our food. I always thought it was convenient how there paying system works. You will not be disappointed! read more

Apparently they have some kinks to work out. I think our waitress was new and/or over-tasked. Some of us ordered water and three of us beer. It was 15 minutes before the water came. Then a few minutes later one of the beers. It eventually took mgt intervention to get the other two beers to the table. We ordered a few appetizers but got no plates for them. A few minutes later another server came by and noticed we had no plates and said she would get us some. We never saw her again. My wife tried to order shrimp but was informed they were out of shrimp. A man with a pillowy white fu man chu type beard came by wearing a salt life t shirt and asked us how things were going. I assume he was a manager. When we started to explain about the service he literally said "well, shift change" and moved on to another table. When the food came (finally) we had invested 45 minutes in our seats (after the 30 minute initial wait to be seated). It was not the best. My wife, who ordered the grilled cod said it was the worst she ever had. It was warm and left a greasy film on the roof of her mouth. My brother in law ordered a brisket sandwich that had more meat on it than the brisket entre that I ordered. Both were a shade above room temp but just average tasting. We never got any of the Amish rolls I've read about. Nor were they ever mentioned. I assume they were out of those too. We went there on their third day open so I think they have some practicing to do. They may just need some time and practice so the servers can learn to serve better, the cooks learn how to cook better and management learns how to manage. I have now been here about 4 times since they opened. They are always very quick with getting the food out to us and stay on top of making sure we have everything we need. I tried to call today to see if they make reservations and I tried 4 numbers they have I live 3 go straight to a voice mail that is full the other is always busy for 3 hours straight. Still I wanted to give it a try and I brought a group of 8 people here tonight due to hearing good things and the love for smoked chicken. I don't eat red meats or pork so the chicken sounded great. Well... don't hold your breath. It is 7 pm we order appetizers and drinks then it comes time to order food and they don't have chicken. What establishment that has a tag like of steak and chicken doesn't have chicken. Unbelievable So I sat there or am now as my party that I brought out and I get to watch them eat. The waiter was great in the aspect of trying to get me to take a salad or desert but if I wanted a salad this isn't a place I would go to for that and well desert may be good but when you haven't rated breakfast lunch or dinner it's not on your list. Ps I am not from the area so it's new to me as well. When trying to order a Martini, in Sunday's you can't have liquor only beer.
