I can't give them any stars, (I only had to in order for me to post this) as I have never seen how they work. I called ARS on the night of 10/10/21 to schedule an appointment for my shower that is clogged. They scheduled me for the following morning 10/11/21 that someone will come between 10a-12noon. At 1130am on 10/11/21, they called me that they are running behind and won't get to my house til after 12. I was fine with that. No one came. At 1:20pm, their office called again saying that they still don't have anyone available to come to me and they will call me back once someone is available. I asked if they have at least an estimated time, they said they can not give me an estimate time as to what time they will be coming. I didn't hear back from them Until 4pm! By this time I have found someone already who would be willing to fix my clogged shower. I told the caller that I don't need their services anymore. They are very unreliable. They could've told me when I made my appt or the first time they called me that I will have to wait all day for a plumber because that's exactly what I did! I will never be using this company in any future plumbing needs because again, they are unreliable. I might have paid more from what ARS was quoted me for this job, but I got a faster service from another company. This is a very disappointing experience. We had a main line stoppage that ARS came to assess. They said they could not use our washout to router/hydro jet the stoppage; instead they used a camera through our toilet to quote us $23,500 to fix the stoppage via excavation and re-line the existing pipe. We got a second opinion, and paid $195 to have a plumber hydro jet through our washout and fix the problem in 20 minutes. We still had to pay ARS $300 for their use of the camera, even though they did not roto root anything or even attempt to clear the blockage. I was asked if I had a clean out within 75 feet of the sink and re-assured her that it was. I then continuously questioned her about the price and was told that was the only criterion I needed to meet. After multiple re-phrasing on my part, I felt confident there were no loopholes I might not be aware of. They were booked for the day so I agreed to their next morning window of 10 am-noon. Next morning, I received a text informing me that it would be closer to noon. Near noon, I received another text informing me it would be another 90 minutes to 2 hours. About 2 pm the technician arrived. She looked under the sink and told me there was no clean out there and that the job would cost me $279.00! I told her what I had been assured of numerous times over the phone only to be told that the person who took my original call was uninformed and incorrect. I immediately escorted her to my front door. Now curious, I started scanning their website. On another page I found a disclaimer in very small, italicized print stating the following........ VERBALLY ABUSIVE DISPATCH If you need a new water heater (wh) avoid this company! After a call with Anthony (dispatch) we had to cancel our service to remove our old wh and install a new wh. I was on the phone with ARS requesting they disconnect the wh so that the abatement team (whom they connected us with!) could work on our damaged floor and walls. Once I got connected to their dispatch, Anthony, it was like a nightmare. Anthony was EXTREMELY rude, unhelpful and started YELLING at me on the phone accusing me of not wanting to pay them. I was simply asking if they could send out the plumber (who drained our water heater) to help us disconnect the water heater so that we could move forward with the service and have ARS install our new water heater. I have never once experienced this type of treatment before from any person or company, and found Anthony to be extremely unprofessional and verbally abusive. read more

My mom spent $15K on this tankless water heater/Flovent water system for the whole house that this company swindled her on buying. Gave her all the promises of how great & long lasting this system would be. 1 year after the 5 year warranty not only do parts fail, the plumber couldn't get the part for a month. Meaning no hot water in a house of 3 elderly people (2 of which are disabled), a 15 month old baby & myself & 18 year old. The plumber refused to give me confirmation on the part that I could purchase for a fraction of the price & would've arrived in less than a week. Not only are there very few plumbers who can work on this system, parts are hard to come by. Of course he said I could've replaced the entire tankless water heater for another $7K!! I can't believe he would even suggest that. I would NEVER recommend this company nor their suggested products! Been without hot water since 2/20/23. I should have learned my lesson from my last review of this company, but here we go again. I figured I would give them another try, because after my last review of their company (I had given them a poor rating), the manger tried to resolve the issue. The manager blamed his overpricing on new technology that his company started using to compute billing quotes and he assured me it was being fixed. I recently called ARS to have them come inspect my kitchen sink for a leak. They came to my residence on Monday February 4 over two hours after the scheduled time frame (once again they are still late on appointment times). The guy who came to my residence stated, I probably had a drain leak and I needed a leak inspection to really know for sure. He said that will cost me $250.00. I thought that was kind of high but I figured let me see where this goes. I scheduled a visual water leak detection for Wednesday February 6 between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. They did not show up on Wednesday until 5:30 PM. When the guy showed up, he stated the visual water leak detection would cost $450.00 and the repair of the drain leak would cost at least $1,500.00. I knew right there that this company has not changed. They are overpriced and never on time. Read other reviews, it's the same issues with this company. I would recommend to use another company. What's funny about this is that the plumber who came to my residence on Wednesday night, agreed with me that ARS is overpriced. read more

This review is from a recent transaction. I had them come and fix a leaking faucet in my shower. The technician was polite and respectful, however, they left the drain undone and now I can see exposed pipe. I have tried to schedule to have them come fix our other shower faucet and to repair the drain they left undone. However, they have RESCHEDULED MY JOB 3 TIMES and refuse to commit to a new time, letting me know in advance that they may cancel AGAIN. Dispatch told me that they had their Christmas party this afternoon and that's why they didn't show up. Mind you, i took half a day off work to be home in time. ARS Rescue Rooter San Diego review: Location: El Cajon, Ca. We had a main water line leak at our house. Initial estimate was for $4,850. Ultimately the lead technician said the leak was 2' to the right underneath driveway. New estimate $7,000(included was pavement replacement($600). CPL was unfortunately off in initial leak location detection. "All" Work was completed in 8 hours(digging starting at 9:00 am, repair and filling completed at 5:00 pm). We had a comparable repair done by this company 2-3 years ago that was approximately $3,500, technicians also ended up cutting into the driveway. They also spent roughly 8 hours to fix. Concrete repair on asphalt driveway was completed on 5/31. This was included in the estimate. Here is our issue; We were charged approximately $800 per hour labor for this? Two technicians worked this job. We feel we were at the very least taken advantage of. We payed the bill but feel the need to warn anyone getting work done by this company to get labor costs up front. We made our issues known to the company upon completion but haven't and don't expect to hear back. These people will give you an expensive snow job. The wouldn't just snake 2 clogged drains. They said I have to repipe my whole house because the pipes aren't level. $4,000! I refused to let them in and they took a $500 deposit from me. Then just last year wrote on my credit report that I owe them $900 from last March. I moved out of the house long before that. Main sewer line plugged with roots -- called ARS they ran a cable with nothing on the end thru it. Then they offered to fix the problem for $5835.00, which included digging up pipe in the clogged area and replacing, this repair was no guarantee it would fix the problem. You have got to be joking! Told them no but to clean out the pipe as requested -- they said they couldn't as it may damage the pipe -- I said ok no problem but they wouldn't do it and left after taking there minimum charge from me. I broke my glass coffee pot into the sink/garbage disposal and had no idea what to do in this situation. ARS was able to come out within 24 hours. Joel was pleasant, came in masked and immediately set to work. He realized that it was only a small amount of glass in there and that the disposal was able to take care of it. Ok, so we live in an old home that every couple yrs. the main sewer needs to be snaked. We have had areas lined, used hydro jetting- still the most cost effective is plain snaking. Yesterday we realized we needed the main sewer cleared- no waiting, no question. We called ARS rescue rooter. Not only could they accommodate us same day, but within 2 hrs. Covid safety was all well and good. The point I wish to discuss is the demeanor of one Mr. Marino. I had a Rinnai tankless water heater installed by our community technician. He has just installed the exact same equipment in an adjacent unit (community of condominiums). However, in ours' we were faced with an issue where the heater's ignition switches on and then off in a moment without giving out proper running water. Looking up on Google, I saw that ARS are licensed professionals to service Rinnai heaters, so I call them and make an appointment for the next morning with the technician present too. He arrives, just looks at the installation and says that everything is wrong with it. I asked him if there is anything that's blunderly wrong. Please note that the parts we've used were exactly as recommended by Rinnai including dimensions, so I wanted to know what was so wrong that he was just able to look and tell. He says, you got to pay me 200$ for diagnostics and only then I'll tell you what's wrong. He then goes on and on about how he doesn't do his job for free, how he is unwilling to share even a shred of 'concerns', without me paying him said 200$. He went so far to ask me if I have a job and if I would take up a job without being paid. Little did he know that I myself am an Electrical Engineer and I have already narrowed down the issue to one simple thing before he arrived. Just wished to have a professional concur the same. I replied him saying I'd only take up a job after 'knowing' what the job is and negotiating my pay accordingly, just not blindly ask them to pay me an arbitrary amount. Even if that's the way their company works, I'd hope for a polite expression explaining what's done as a part of diagnostics that I'd be paying 200 bucks. Not 10, not 50, but 200$. He also tells me to redo the entire thing it would cost about 2500$. The cost of heater and its hardware alone was 1300$, go figure! I politely asked them to leave. Minutes later, turns out that it was only the vent pipe dimension that was different causing to switch off due to inadequate pressure, so the installer switched it to the right one for this heater. The installation is up and running with no said diagnostics/ repairs, whatsoever. If this isn't an attempt to steal money, I'm not sure what else is! Pathetic, scam artists that take advantage of the situation by charging outrageous fees for installing a water heater - just because they can. I have a rental property in San Diego and of course the water heater goes out on New Years Eve - my tenant was distressed and so was I! ARS comes in and while nice in the beginning - then the pressure and negotiations start. By the end of the evening, they had talked me into a $3,750 price tag - which was absurd! I asked them for a breakdown - and they said that wasn't how they priced things out - its an all in one deal! The actual unit cost around $672 - and they were there for about 5-6 hours - lots of double talk - and circular conversation - I felt trapped and kept telling the rep to stop telling me I could call someone else in - its like you are having a heart attack and the doctor says well - we can just wait until you stroke out -so go ahead and call in another doctor if you don't like my bedside manner..... I felt violated - but desperate. A few days later - when we were going to arrange the "financing", I had an opportunity to get a few more quotes - which ranged from $1,500 - $1,800. I was able to negotiate the bill down by around $700 - but still feel dirty from this awful transaction - I have been scammed and it feels terrible - they do not deserve to be in business! Only reason I called them is because my usual plumber can't make it today. So I sent him home and called my other plumber. Unreal. I love it when ARS comes to do repairs in my apartment. This most recent time to repair a gas leak that left us without a stove/oven to cook on or any hot water. The leak wasn't because of ARS. However the repairs took over a week because of complications they had. so I was in a hotel the whole time instead of my home. Then when I come to hang out one day I see holes have been cut into the drywall in my bedroom and behind the stove/oven. So I assumed hey they'll patch it up and clean up the mess after they get all the repairs done right? No not at all. Left drywall bits all over my kitchen floor and the carpet in my bedroom. I would like to make a formal complaint. There were so many things i was not satisfied with on this experience with this company I am I very upset, disappointed, and quiet frankly shaken by my visit with the technician who came out to our home. I called late last night and spoke with a customer service rep who did not have the pricing knowledge to assist me with my questions on services I was seeking. I was told I would get a call the next morning when someone was in. That in fact had me thinking it was just an answering service and my appointment would be scheduled today with an actual rep who could provide me pricing. I did not hear back from anyone in your office so I called another plumbing company. Then I get a text saying a technician was on the way and since i never heard back from anyone at your office to schedule an appointment i thought it was the other company. Once the technician came to my house he called and gave me a quote over the phone while standing in my house? I had specifically asked for a quote to begin with before scheduling?! So as he is speaking to me he is showing little to know customer service and then begins to speak very aggressively. When i realized this is not even the company i had scheduled with i let him know and he became very rude and said PAY ME MY MONEY!. Its not my fault you didnt understand the person on the phone and I get paid $300 and hour so there is no way this service costs less than that. He quoted me $1100.00 for both bathrooms or $350 or so for the one? I said absolutely not since i had not even gotten a quote. He said well i need my money so- and then I said i was to speak with your dispatcher since at this point he already was demanding payment and becoming even more aggressive in tone.He then proceeded to get a dispatcher on the phone who just simply said oh she was notfied. He again told us to pay him now. I asked him to leave because at this point i felt unsafe with him in my home with my young child right there. I have never dealt with someone so agressive and with such little customer service skills. The fact began being aggressive arumentative andflat out rude making me feel unsafe with him in our home was outrageous! He walked away calling me names and left. He was telling his dispatcher things as he left our doorstep. I told my sister to lock the door and we will be calling the poilce if he returns to our home. This level of service was not what i have experienced before. And yes even if he was not able to SELL his pricing he should not be discussing his pay nor getting aggressive while standing in someones home DEMANDING MONEY???? I really think you should investigate this further and i truly hope no one else has to experience what we went through or you will loose a massive amount of customers in the process. I do think it is pricey, I had them come back to fix two running toilets and a clogged sink and it was $400. Don't let these guys anywhere near your home. They are scammers and will over charge thousands of dollars. If you want details on my experience read below... Our 17yo water heater started leaking. I found a replacement at Lowe's and I wanted to have it installed. After some confusion having to do with them switching to a new install contractor, we arranged an appointment for the next day. That new install contractor was ARS Rescue Rooter. The ARS Rescue Rooter install rep showed up on time but it was downhill from there. We were just looking to replace a 50gal water heater. This guy goes on a hard sell about permits and code requirements. He talks about extensive labor to repipe and add expansion tank and drip pan ...water damage, mold, etc etc... then goes back to his van to write up an estimate. He comes back with a $3200 estimate!!!! $3200 for a standard water heater install / replacement!?!?!?! After I tell him I'm not paying anywhere near that. He offers to ask his boss if they could knock the price down. So he goes back to his van to make a phone call. While he's gone I find the number for our city's permitting office and call. Luckily someone answers and I ask about permit/code requirements for replacing a water heater. They say that for a replacement water heater, permits are recommended but NOT REQUIRED.. So, after lying to my face about the permit requirements, the ARS guy comes back and hands me a written estimate and says he has good news and bad news. Good news is that his boss knocked the price down to $3000. The bad news is that they will require that we use their restoration services to repair the water damage caused by the leak. But, there was no water damage. The water leaked onto the unfinished concrete floor of our unfinished garage. I told the guy to take a hike. I ended up purchasing the water heater at Lowe's and shared the ARS story with the associate from their plumbing department and he was shocked. Lowe's has nothing to do with ARS's practices but they did select them as their install contractors, so if all plumbing jobs thru Lowe's are contracted with ARS then look elsewhere. I used Yelp to find another plumber/installer w good reviews. They did the job for $699. They were responsive, prompt, professional, and did a standard installation per code. No monkey business about permits or restoration or extensive labor costs. Cost of water heater $900 Cost of install + parts $699 Total Cost = $1599 Cost of water heater $900 ARS cost of install + parts $2300 ARS Total = $3200 ARS tried to overcharge us by $1600 on parts and labor. I have no idea how much their 'restoration' services would've cost. I wrote all of this as a warning to folks unprepared to deal with fast talking scammers. Stay away. My first experience with this company was positive having a coupon online to come and clear a shower drain. Good experience, the technician Jesus was friendly and helpful. The drain ended up backing up again shortly thereafter and had Roto Rooter back out to assess the situation. Here's my issue. This time they sent their 'expert' Bill out to the property. Bill promptly told me the pipes under my bathroom had broken and I would need to jackhammer through the foundation to replace the pipes. They provided me with a $30,000+ quote to start the work asap. I was presented with no other options, but assured that I was in the right hands. Well, had another company out to look at it the next day - turns out the tenants were pouring grease in the kitchen sink that ran down to the low point of the house, solidified and created the clog. Plumber cleared the sink line and problem 100% fixed. $500 solution. Roto Rooter tried to upsell me a job I didn't need and according to their reviews this seems to just be how they do business. Thankfully I got a second opinion. Can't imagine how many people they've taken advantage of trying to sell jobs that aren't needed. Shameful. read more
