Call to have my sewer line cleaned. Tech arrived with broken equipment proceeded to work on equipment for hours, and ended up stuffing a rag on the end of his snake and forcing that through the line which didn't work, asked me to pay the full drain cleaning amount, and that he would be back the next. arrive the following day stating that his vehicle had been broken into and proceeded to work on his equipment again after getting some equipment that actually worked right had the drain cleaned in five minutes or less. Note: The technician showed up (we were not present with our renovation contractor on site). We received a call from the technician, Bill Byers, who asked what was he supposed to do? With an attitude. We told him we asked for an inspection of our plumbing for general health. He asked what is he to do specifically? Again with attitude. My wife told him ro do a camera inspection of our drain pipes going to the sewer. My wife called his office to complain this technician didn't even know what to do and he was rude and condescending. They apologized and explained he should have an invoice with instructions and they were surprised too that he would ask why he was at the house. They agreed to have my wife pay after she receives a bill emailed to her. Five minutes later the technician called back, explained he video checked the main line out to the street and it was in good shape with no blockage then asked what else he is supposed to do, with attitude again. My wife isn't a plumber, he is. Why is asking her what he is supposed to do? Idiot. What the heck was I paying for? A five minute job? Why didn't he inspect the water pressure, sink drains, water heater? He insisted my wife pay him over the phone, my wife explained she had an agreement to pay after receiving the email invoice. The technician asked condescendingly "why can't you just open your purse and pay now!?" Rude! Poor manners, bad job, unprofessional and unqualified. I would never recommend this company or service!!! Shady, shady, shady, unethical, upsellers, overchargers, rude and arrogant. Had a stuck garbage disposal, which is easy to fix, but I was too busy to do it myself. So, they upsold me a $900 garbage disposal. Had a faucet with a loose supply line. they insisted I needed a whole new $k faucet. When I went to compare prices, I complained, bought my own parts, and invited them back to return their parts. They refused, said they don't take back "used" parts. They were arrogant and dismissive. It was clear that they have parts on their truck and are just looking to upsell and claim stuff is broken when it is not. Their part prices are astronomical. The plumber was NOT LICENSED, they claim that they can send a long time employee because the company is licensed. That is not California law - if it is more than $500 in work, a licensee must do or supervise the work. The next set of guys that came said, yeah, I was robbed and they told me to go ahead and keep the parts. I offered to return the parts, pay for the labor only and they declined. They told me to Amex dispute, which I did. Now the company wants to take all that back and charge me again for the faucet. I haven't ever spent the time to complain about a company before . ARS Rooter is the Worst company I've ever experienced. I Received them as Lowe's referral contractor after purchase From Lowe's for replacement of an electric water heater . Exceptionally poor communication with company often having to leave messages with no return call. No estimate given prior to day of install. Quoted a price the morning of installation was more than other estimates were from plumbing companies which would have supplied the actual water heater (instead of what I had done via Lowe's). Their quote was more than twice. They wanted $3,500 for the install with no breakdown of costs -$3500 for 2 hours labor and I supplied the new water heater, thermal expansion tank & parts. Poor communication throughout , no estimate given verbally or in writing . In essence it's a two hour job without a major issue - that's about $1750 per hour for labor & etc added on by the company ). Most people would have cleared their schedule for the day of the installation and probably just begrudgingly paid it . I didn't - I found a local plumber who charged about $1,000. I know there are a fair number of bad reviews here, and I can only speak to the mainline clog they cleared for us about 75 feet from our cleanout. Jesus was super prompt and came out quickly on a Sunday. Was it expensive? Yes, but my preferred drain company was closed on Sunday, and ARS was not, so they deserve credit for that. They were quick and they cleaned up well after themselves, which is always a plus. I am not telling you to ignore the other negative reviews. I can very easily see how a company like this might not be popular because they get you when you're up against a wall. But for me and my experience, it was good and professional. read more

Our main sewage line running from the house to the street was clogged. It was the end of the day, so we called several plumbers until we got one that would immediately come out: ARS. They charged $400 to try and clear the drain, couldn't do it, and said they would come back the next day with a camera. The next day, they returned and said we had a "massive root intrusion" and would need to excavate the front yard, replace the pipe, hydraulic shoring, backfill...the whole nine yards. The total: $16,000. ($18,000, but they would give us a $2,000 discount). They said our other option was to hydrojet, but did NOT recommend it because it could collapse our pipe and make things worse. That charge was $2,300. We called another plumber and had them come out the following day for a second opinion. $400 later, they had our pipe completely cleaned out. They put a camera down the pipe and then did hydrojetting. $400...not $2,300 like ARS quoted. It was very thin roots coming in from a joint. The pipe was not cracked. The pipe did not need replacing. The new plumbers laughed when we told them what ARS recommended but said they were not surprised. To the owner: I do not need your automated reply of "We acknowledge that as a premium service provider, we will not always be the cheapest price point. Our pricing is determined by the exceptional service we provide." Because your service is not exceptional. Either the two men that came out are inexperienced, or you guys are straight-up crooks. You are trying to exploit people who might not get a second opinion or not understand what they are looking at on a fuzzy camera. When two plumbers are standing there, telling you that is your only option, you might believe them. I hope my review will help someone down the line. Do not, under any circumstances, use this company! Their business model is to corner you, pressure you to act quickly, use tricks to screw you over, and provide unnecessary services. I've dealt with hundreds of plumbers, so I'm no rookie in this area and I'm surprised they tried their usual tricks on me. I had a main-line backup on Sunday and these were the only people I could get to come out. The issue ultimately ended up being a CITY problem that was repaired for free, but they only wanted to charge me $5000 to install a cleanout and essentially tried to convince me that's the only thing that could be done. If I had done that, I would have been out the $5k+ then they would have still not fixed the actual issue, or discovered it and charged me more to fix it. The first thing they do is rush you to sign a waiver of rights provided to you by CA law that allows you the ability to cancel service within 5 days. This is because if they trick you into saying "yes", they'll start digging a hole and then you're screwed. Do not do this. My home does not have a cleanout, so the only method is through the roof's sewer vent pipe or removing a toilet and going that way. I specifically told them this beforehand and said I needed a snake from the roof. They show up and tell me they don't do snakes from the roof because it's too much of a liability...but they said they could camera from the roof as if somehow that's safer. They said it might be able to push it through, which they could not. They located the start of the backup in my kitchen then wanted to bust up my floor and start digging! And they had no clue what the actual problem was! I told them I was not paying $5k for them to install a cleanout and dig up my yard. I just wanted it snaked or jetted out. I even said we could pull a toilet and do it, but they were set on trying to get me to mention the word "ok" and then they'd have just started going to town tearing up my kitchen and yard. I sent them away and brought in All American Plumbing the next day and made very clear I wanted it snaked/jetted from the roof and they said no problem. They climbed up there and jetted the line out and I was back in business. Then we ran a camera and found the ACTUAL problem was where my home's sewer lateral joins the city, it was misaligned, and it was outside of my property line, so the city sent a crew out the next day and repaired everything for free. Absolutely insane this company suggested destroying my kitchen floor and digging a hole in my yard WITHOUT actually knowing the issue. As another customer has stated, their business model is to corner and pressure you into agreeing to allow them to fix an issue- for a nominal feel if 5k. My issue looked as though my plumbing was starting to have a main line clog. Phenomenal. I get the professionals to come out; they take a look at the issues I'm having and confirm it's a main line clog. They put a scope into the system and even though I asked them to show me what they find, they didn't. Because there isn't a clean out installed in the house, they want to dig a hole in my yard to install one and fix my issue. They give me a discount and they can do it for 4700 dollars. There was no way I was gonna agree to that without a second opinion or calling my husband first. This person in my house proceeded to turn up the heat/increase pressure on me to agree to do the work while two other grown men watched us discuss the situation. I tell them that I need to talk to my husband and I needed to get to work and the highlights of his responses were that "they have the stuff here now and they can start immediately", I "don't need to be present so I can just sign and go to work", we can work out "a financing plan", and it's "ONLY 4700" dollars. I don't care if it's the cheapest rate in town, I should be able to decide what I'm comfortable coughing up in a moments notice. I finally asked, "will I survive in my house for the next couple of hours so I can talk to my husband"; he shrugged and said he didn't know. Nice. Well fortunately, I have been able to survive. I had a family member who was willing to snake the plumbing for me. System works fine now. Luckily I didn't follow through with a $15,000.00 estimate that followed a $14,000.00 estimate for the same problem they claimed I had and that employee was fired. Just wanted to warn you about some extreme price gouging that I'm trying to resolve with ARS/Rescue Rooter. Unfortunately, I needed a plumber to come out ASAP on Easter Sunday due to an active leak in my garage. Since the extent of the leak was not yet determined, I agreed to the $5k proposal and was charged that amount when the repairs were made on 4/6. Two different licensed and bonded plumbers have since explained that the work should have come at less than $2000. Their approximate breakdown: - 3 bands - $45 ($15 each) - 1 cast-iron drainpipe - $90 - Misc. fittings - $50 - Labor = $1,500* - Total = $1,685 *Note that I generously determined the labor charges by the hours (about five) the two workmen were at my home by $150 per hour. I have reached out to the company three separate times to discuss the matter, as well as request an itemized receipt, and have yet to receive a response. Just this morning, I filed a claim with the CA License Board and the BBB. Through additional research, I've found that they have had 17 complaints filed against them in the past three years, most for this type of consumer price gouging. read more

Bait and Switch. I had a clogged drain and ARS had an add for "Single Drain $69" so I called for service. They stated they would arrive between 10 am and noon, they showed after 1 pm. They did not even attempt to unclog the drain at all. They called and stated that all the pipes were bad and they will have to replace the old cast iron pipes. They gave me a quote for $7,000.00 to do so. I had a reputable plumber come out today and was able to unclog the drain in less than 20 minutes. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

STEAR CLEAR**** Please read this and heed my warning. Previous to this last experience I had written a preview about the work and service that ARS completed at my property. They did do a decent job. My issue is when I questioned a issue that was identified by multiple certified plumbing they tried to say it was normal. I've since submitted. Warranty claim and have zero resolution. The company used to call me for a status but they've gone silent. It's been a 2-3 months now! Additionally, this company charges at least $1000 above the average SD county rate average. The reason I know this is simple, call them out for an estimate and you'll see. Any other plumber company you hirer to give you an estimate will be at least $1000 lower. They also rush/pressure to get you to sign a contract. Pretty shady stuff. Again, this company had performed decent work for me but I assumed going with them they would honor their word and warranty...I still waiting.... Do yourself a favor and look else where. Unfortunately I can't give zero stars but I can tell my story. My hot water heater finally went out after 15 years of service and a trip to Lowes in Vista had me lined up to get a replacement. Lowes is partnering with ARS as their installers. The mobile/field person was on time and in the arrival window. After that though, things took a turn. I wanted a $1800 75gal tank installed as a direct replacement for the failed unit. I was told the copper piping was wrong from the original install and that would need to be corrected. The additional steps of pulling permits would need to take place and at some point is would require a second person to assist/help remove and install the new tank. The replacement total was $6500 - bringing the labor costs and operational costs to around $4500. ARE YOU KIDDING me ARS?? I also found out that their field people who come up with pricing in the 'Ludicrous' range, are on commission - 30% apparently. I made sure to let the folks I was dealing with at Lowes know who they are in bed with...they seemed genuinely shocked and it'll be interesting to see if the partnership remains after word gets out. Evil plumber in San Diego, California I was surprised to see my faucet leaking in my master's bedroom. Got a church member, to help me out. It worked but in am, but there was still a small leak. I called ARS Rescue Rooter. The man, Ed Kroshchuk came, a veteran plumber of his company. Checked my under-the-sink faucet, and made recommendations. Just to install 4 new angle stops/risers,(i have to provide the parts), he charges $887.00. I can't afford that. Checked my newly installed garbage disposal that stopped working, and he said, it needs to be replaced. Installation is $500. I can't. He charged me $99.00, a trip charge in spite of the deal I had over the ph. when I tried to cancel, Freddy said, he is waving the charge for one time. But he insisted that the company policy, said, I have to pay the trip charge So I paid, just so he leaves the house. Good one, I found on google, that Rooter Ranger, is open 24 hours, and they will come and tell me the problem and free cost estimate. It is Saturday, they don't have enough people, can it be in am. I begged for tonight, even late. Supervisor called me later, it may be past 9 pm. Can it be in am? I begged no. So, a man named Morghon Liddell came, still sweaty, but clean, he went straight to work. He said my friend did it right, just need to tighten up. Refused to be paid, he didn't do much, he said. I asked to check my garbage disposal, pushed a button, and fixed it. I was so grateful, that I insisted to pay at least gas money. He said to just write a review for the company. Wow! God is good! There are devils, and there are God's angels. Thank you, Lord! I called this man, ED by ARS Rescue, 2days in a raw, just to see what he will say for not finding the right solution. His answer was, that it was leaking, so it needs to be replaced. The waste disposal was not working, so it needs to be replaced. He did not know the real diagnosis. My sewer line was backed up so I called ARS rescue rooter San Diego. They have a $69 special "clear any line." I made an appointment,they were over 2 hours late. They showed up Ran a camera and found roots in the line. They ran a snake, and they were not able clear the the line. I was told that I have a major problem, they were going to have to cut thru the asphalt and repair the line, then hydrojet the line and re sleeve the pipes. I was told this was going to be very expensive and cost thousands and thousands of dollars. So I paid the $69, my sewer line was still clogged and went to bed. I woke up this morning, rented an electric snake/ auger with a sharp blade. I have never used an electric snake before, but I was able to clear the line. It's kind of ironic that 2 professional plumbers couldn't clear the clog, but I was able to have it flowing like a river in under an hour. I would appreciate a refund. So these guys were wandering the aisles in Home Depot offering a $49 pre season HVAC inspection and service special. My 2 zone mini split was on the froth anyway so I went for it. They gave me a 4 hour window for Monday. Towards the end of the window I get a call that their tech can't make it and they reschedule for the next day. Tech shows up, finds my system is out of refrigerant again. Tells me it will be $500 just to fill it but that won't solve the problem. The system is about 9 years old now. So we discuss some options. The numbers he threw at me were completely outrageous. $3,500 just to do a leak check on the system, clean the filters and coils, and recharge it. No way I am paying that so I ask what a new system would cost. He quotes me a replacement 2 zone Gree system (a brand I have never heard of) for $16,500! I also ask about moving to a 4 zone to add units to my kids rooms. $22,500!! Looking at Home Depot's website, the exact unit he quoted me costs all of about $5,000. These clowns want over $12,000 to install a simple mini split unit. I have already gotten bids from other companies for better quality systems for less than half of what these people wanted to charge. Avoid at all costs. These guys are complete scam artists and will rip you off without batting an eye. Do yourself a favor and don't even call these people. read more

I am very disappointed with this company. I called for a drain clear with the free camera inspection as advertised on tv for $99. I have used this promo twice before and did not have any trouble. They cleared the clog then another guy showed up with the camera and showed me the inspection. Both times were $99, as advertised. This time they gave me an appt window between 12-4p. At 3p I called to make sure they were still coming. The gal said a tech or dispatch would call me quickly with the eta. At 3:48 Anthony from dispatch calls and says the tech is finishing a job in poway and would be leaving for Ramona in 20 minutes. That would put him close to one hour late. I was irritated. I asked Anthony if the tech had the camera. He said he did not and the camera inspections have a cost to them. I mentioned the tv commercial with the free camera inspection and he said that is only if they need to the camera to clear the clog. I tried to tell him the main reason I went with them was the free camera inspection. I could barely get a sentence out and he talked over me telling me to read the fine print. I got irritated and told him "to go ahead and talk over me ...FXcker". I didnt mean for him to hear me but he did. I apologized and he continued to tell me the fine print is what they go with. I need to get the drain hydro jetted, for about $1200,. ok, let me call a few other companies, Team Rooter, $69 Drain special, done. On top of that, checked my pressure on the outside, 75 psi. They installed my hot water heater. Did NOT properly install earthquake straps. Installed plastic piping vs copper piping. Never told me I needed to get a city inspection. Fast forward I am selling my house I called them about the earthquake strap not being installed they claim I must have moved it. Why would I do that? They are trying to charge me $350! I did it myself very easy. They said this is not work we would do. It IS the work they did. Plastic piping instead of cooper. Told me that I needed a liner in the pipe and that it would take four days, including drilling through the slab. And gee, they would finance it for one year no interest. My manager called Ars and they concluded I needed a offset pipe for the sump pump and replace the pump for around $10,000 lol Had Touchdown plumbing come out and identify the pinched float, they fixed it in under 2 hours. cost came in at $600. SCAM!!!!!!!! BAIT & SWITCH PRICING........On their Advertisement website it said $69 for drain clearing. I received a call to schedule an appointment. I confirmed the cost would be $69 to clear the vanity sink drain line. I explained the situation. They missed the appointment and called 30 minutes later stating they needed to reschedule to the following day at the same time. The following day they missed the appointment again and advised they would be there in 45 minutes / 2 hours later they arrived. The plumber said it would be $399 to snake the sink drain line. I reminded him of the $69 and he said that's if there is a clean out. This was a simple 15 minute job. I explained I informed the schedule of the complete situation and they stated it would only be $69 to snake the line. He called his office and they changed it to $199. The person that answer the phone didn't have an answer so she went and got someone to "help"This guy was Rude, condescending and obnoxious. He told me that my window for service was between 10 and 12 and then now it was going to be between two and three because they were busy. So I canceled service within two hours. I accepted their apology and their offer of an appointment for the next day, with their absolute assurance that they would make the appointment (my second mistake). Lo and behold, they stiffed me again. More of the "Sorry, we're overbooked again" nonsense. Waste of time (twice) and lousy experience with a third-rate company that doesn't honor its promises. We had a back up issue in the master bath on 2/14/20 and called ARS and they sent out Bill and Scott. They seemed knowledgeable and were quick to fix the issue. They went under the house and said there was no leaking. Fast forward to 2/17/20 and the issue happened again. Bill and Scott came back and removed the master toilet again and removed the clog and said it would be better. A couple hours later when the toilet was used (nothing but liquid flushed in it), the toilet backed up again this time causing dirty water to back up in the shower. THEN the same thing happened in our guest bathroom, which was previously not an issue. I had to call their after hours line and they sent Diego and Frank to check it out and they said there was too much back up that if they pulled the toilet it would flood the house. They also went into the crawl space and said there was a leak under the house now. They said someone would come between 8-10am the next day, 2/18/20, and I have called multiple times and at 1:45pm they have still not come and don't seem confident they will. I have a 1 month old newborn and a wife at home where we have no useable bathrooms and can't run the water, and the plumbing issue got worse after ARS came to the house and they are not prioritizing coming back to fix it. This is also after all my newborn's bathing items were ruined with the backup in the guest bath (which wasn't an issue before ARS came). I am now left with having to call a different plumbing company to come out and try and fix the root issue and now the additional issue that appeared after ARS came. This 1 star rating is purely because of the lack of ownership, empathy, and prioritization of ARS to make right and stay true to their word. While Bill, Scott, Diego, and Frank were nice guys and customer friendly and were just doing their jobs, this is a review of the company as a whole. Yikes - should have read the Yelp reviews first before calling. As others have said, their ad for a $69 cleanout has a bunch of small print qualifiers - standard bait and switch. They also keep you waiting ALL DAY. Someone was supposed to show up at 10am - it's now 3pm and then they call and say, no actually a blocked tub drain is $350 but they'll take off $100. Price gouging. I needed a toilet mechanism replaced. The plumber took roughly 1.5 hours to put in a new mechanism. $600. On top of that, it's not a simple push on the handle to flush. I have to push and hold the handle down. I called and complained. A technician came and looked at it; he said it's fine. I've been a ARS client for over 15 years; I'll be using another company in the future. read more

I called them to unclog my house dranage as they promote $68 but when the tech came after been late 2 hours. He looked at the clogged drain and said we need to hydro jet I told him try to snake the drain then we can find out if we need hydro jet , he refuse to do that. Our toilet had a clog so I checked with friends; decided on ARS because a neighbor used them at least twice, used a $83 Coupon and never paid more than $100. Great, I thought. A nice employee took my order, verified the $83 coupon would work. They rescheduled me for 2 days later and verified the coupon would be on my order. That employee never explained that the coupon had restrictions.r. Nice employee came today, said my condo did not have a 'proper clean access' which is stated on the coupon, but neither of the first 2 people I spoke with told me or explained that to me. So for a 5 minute job to clear the plug which evidently was in the toilet itself( but over 40 minutes to do paperwork!) I paid $299! Not exactly fraud but VERY SNEAKY! I see that ARS responded and wanted me to call a Freddiann. She gave me the corporate blah blah and offered me a $50 coupon on their next visit. ARS (Rescue Rooter) used to be a family owned, local plumbing coming with great customer service. Now it's just another corporate run company with horrible service that would rather price gouge customers, rather than being a go to company for plumbing needs. I was charged 80% more for a simple main drawing cleaning that took the plumber 20 min to do. I was charged $413 when their own website clearly says, $89. I was also told that if I refused service that day, there would be a $99 trip charge for just coming to my house. This is not the way to do business. I would encourage anyone looking for plumbing service to look elsewhere. read more

My renter had a plumbing problem, they called ARS. Lendale was the guy who arrived, and I had the renter put him on the phone. He sounded angry that I couldn't get his name right even though his speech was slurred. He told me he needed to pull up the toilet, clear the clog, and gave a reason why he wouldn't warranty the work, the whole time talking down to me with an angry tone. After his proposal, I asked "if you got on the roof and ran a snake down the vent, wouldn't that clear the drain?" He said "probably, but I'm not going to get up on the roof". Then he said "LISTEN, blah blah" and I stopped him, and told him to stop the condescending tone. He said "I think I'll be going" which I agreed was a good idea. Later, their office called me and some woman with a bank-teller's voice, a voice of authority that makes you feel guilty, told me calmly but sternly "we will not allow customers to DICTATE instructions to our workers". When she was done I calmly told her what actually happened, that Len-DALE was rather rude, proposed unnecessary work, and that I ASKED him if working from the roof would work. She was like "oh, uh, oh..." and I pointed out that Len-DALE might have told her something that wasn't true. Of course I called another outfit, Blue Planet, who arrived within 30 minutes, climbed on the roof in the rain, and cleared the clog. LOL: "we won't have customers DICTATE to our workers"... maybe try having your workers not be rude to your customers... just an idea. read more
