This company is dangerous and I will not be using them for my family again. Because of their mistake, my infant and toddler went without heat overnight, and we woke up to a house that was very cold. Rescue Rooter recently added Tarpy, an HVAC company. Tarpy had come out to give us a quote for upgrading our system. Nothing was wrong, our furnace was working well. It was purely for a quote. The furnace did not turn on after that. It literally never had issues before. Thank goodness it was not a colder night. VERY! VERY! VERY! EXPENSIVE! I had them come out to replace a leaking faucet that I provided. They also replaced two under sink water lines. I needed the work now so I paid $1452 dollars for nothing basically. I had my toilet replaced and the pipe to it raised to make a better connection by another company and it was $485. I got an estimate of $552 from ARS and that was the toilet only not the pipe. Luckily I didn't need it now. ARS also quoted $2200 for a pressure gauge which I was able to get it done by another company for $795. They take advantage of you, so DON'T CALL!!!! They are not as good or knowledgable as they claim. We had stopped toilets on a Sunday with 22 guests coming over. They were the first to respond and show up. Sorry that I had not read the reviews or I NEVER would have had them. After snaking for over an hour, no success. Next day, Monday, they tried high pressure water, again it failed. Then someone with a camera found something, just it was not the problem nor in the area claimed. They then dug up HUGE area, killed bushes, and were 3 feet off from the real problem. The worker, Ruben,did a great job considering he was in wrong area. Finally got fixed, though I did not know that I had signed disclaimer to not withdraw or cancel within 3 days, they totally misrepresented that. Just got a letter that ARS/Rescue Rooter is who has been in charge of Tarpy for almost a year. So I wanted to make sure this review was seen here too. Used Tarpy, Now ARS/Rescue Rooter, to install my Condenser and HVAC system at my house a couple years ago. At the time I requested what it would cost to move the condenser so I could have the concrete redone. The tech assured me it would be only $350 to do that when I was ready. Since it was a couple years I expected it to be a little more so I was fine with that. They said it was $129 to come out and move over the phone, which I knew couldn't be right but continued. They missed both windows they gave 10-1 and 1-4 and arrived just after 4:00. The tech said it would be a little more as it was 2 trips and they were storing at my house. So I asked him to get me the proposal so we could get going. He worked on it and came back at $6,800 for the moving of the condenser! My condenser cost just less than that new! I was clearly not moving forward at that point so asked he to take off. I am posting this so anyone looking knows to be weary of the promises from the technicians as this wasn't even close and in fact was out right robbery. We had a brand new hvac system put in in September. In November (right before Thanksgiving) we noticed that the heater would turn on but would only blow cold air. We called on dec. 2nd and they came out that day but could not fix it, they had to get someone with more experience to come out which they did the next week. But.... he couldn't fix it either, he needed to order a part. We called the next week to see if the part had come in, they said yes and scheduled us for the 17th to fix the issue. They never showed up and we did not get a call. Because of the holidays we didn't get rescheduled until Jan 6th. When the guy didn't show up AGAIN, we called and the person told us he'd called out sick. So rescheduled us for the next day(7th). We called the next day because it was getting close to the end of the 4 hour block of time they tell you they'll be there. Person said he was running behind. The Person called back 5 minutes later and said no he was still out sick, so they rescheduled us AGAIN for the 12th. Guess what happened on the 12th? Canceled!!!! Until the 22nd. At this point we're beyond furious so we call quality assurance. Lady sounds very helpful and apologetic, but we're skeptical. Thankfully we live in SoCal, so the weather isn't freezing, though I wished I had ac yesterday because it was 86°. Now we're scheduled for tomorrow(16th). Cross your fingers. read more

I had a drain back up in a laundry area. Tenant called them and I figured I would let then give me a quote. They showed up with a flood restoration person and stated they could not start the job until the drywall was tested for asbestos... place was built in 1983 mind you..... They also stated they could not clean the drain unless they cut a hole in the wall and bypassed the pea trap. Restoration guy said it as $2500 just to clean, remove drywall and dry the place out... he said the water was soaked 4ft up the wall!!!!! I have no idea what the plumber was going to charge. I said I would call another plumber. He then called me back and said they could do it for $1500... that was the real cue that they were bad. My plumber came out... said he can clean it from the drain and NO cuts in the drywall. $225 later and done! I did remove the drywall.. only wet 12 inches!!! Cost me $125 in material. Damn I should of read the reviews prior to hiring this company. Lesson learned. I'm very aware that every time you hire a company like this you're getting over priced..... but when you have a leak you want to get professionals to inspect and if they find the problem to fix it and do the job right. The plumber that came was nice did the job he quoted $800 after a few "discounts " (again we were aware it was over priced) we agreed. He replaced 2 parts in tub; bottom faucet and tub drain. There was a hole and they needed to be replaced. That's the only issue that he could see that could be causing the leak. He did it in less than 2 hours. We checked the parts; Plastic cheapest crap $60 worth. Our original ones were actual metal decent quality. So $800.... that's all the receipt stated. So when I called to request a breakdown on the work done, parts, labor.... I was told that they only give flat rates no breakdown and that I had signed on that.... so yes I didn't read every single thing nor the fine print. I was a bit upset.... the "Nice" lady on the phone said "Next time read what you signed " .... Actually good advice, the only good thing out of this. Got ripped off, $800 for $60 parts. Total Scammers, received a coupon from the company for a $69 main line drain cleaning. Tues 1/7/25 Manny arrives and says it will be $100 for the cleaning. I informed him that his company sent me a coupon for $69 of which he wasn't clearly interested and said $100 and left in a bad mood. Shortly afterwards i called the company asking for a mgr to call, no call back. Today 1/8/25 still no call back. I am done. Red Flag this ARS rescue rooter services company. If these people can't honor there services listed on there coupons and do not return phone calls after repeated attempts, this isn't a good sign of a good company. I scheduled service through ARS Rescue Rooter through Lowe's to replace a water heater that had rusted through and was leaking. Unfortunately, the issue arose over the Christmas holiday, so companies were understandably short staffed. But ARS/Lowe's confirmed that they would call me between 4 pm and 6 pm on Christmas Eve to advise of their arrival time at my home, at which point they would give an estimate and do the work. At 5:45 pm, they called and said they wouldn't be coming after all and asked if I would like to reschedule for the following day between 8 am and 12 pm. I agreed. On Dec. 25, I hadn't heard anything, so I called them at 11:45 am to ask for a status update. The dispatcher assured me that a service technician was on his way, and they would call me back with a revised update. At 12:15 pm, I received a call advising me that no one would be coming after all, and could I reschedule for the following day (Dec. 26) between 8 am and 12 pm. At approximately 9 am on Dec. 26, I received a call from someone at ARS with the news that no one would be coming to service my water heater today either and the soonest they could have someone at my home would be Monday, Dec. 29. Fortunately, I had contacted another plumbing company in the meantime, and they have been responsive and fair with setting expectations. They should arrive at my home this morning and have texted me a (reasonable) quote based on pictures I have sent with the model number of the water heater. DO NOT call ARS Rescue Rooter for service, as I imagine you will be disappointed at best and without an operational water heater at worst. read more

Drain line blocked between house and sewer main in street. (Thought it was clogged toilet until the plunger did it's job and emptied the toilet, but pumped the waste back up into the shower pan.) Called and made an appointment, then it was changed, then no-show with an offer to come 24 hours later, but that would would be too late for us, so we called another much-better-reviewed company which could come NOW. While the new company was here, ARS's Bill called to apologize for the scheduling confusion and offered to come look at it even though I already had another crew here. An hour or so later, this second crew had decided what needed to be done and it would cost $6500 to do it, so I called Bill back. He was here within the hour, opened the line, and showed my wife and I why it had blocked and how to prevent future problems like this. Total charge, $99--which was their advertised price for an initial service call. I had a slow/stopped main line. I called Rescue Rooter for the "$99 or it's free" deal. The tech(which was actually a really nice guy) came out. Tried to snake it for about a minute and said it couldn't be cleaned out and they would need to scope it. Fine. They came out the next day. Supposedly cammed my mainline (without any proof ALSO charging me $99 for, btw) and said I had "something" blocking the line. "Their camera hit something and the screen went black" Said it could be roots or a broken pipe, but ultimately they didn't really know and without offering any other options would need to charge $7500 to trench and replace about a 3' section of pipe. That isn't very deep or difficult to get to. But promised they would "give me a good deal" and even "include a military discount to help" that I didn't really qualify for. Thankfully I wasn't taken for the sucker they thought I was and got a few more opinions. It did end up being roots. But It was easily cleaned out in literal seconds with by hydro jet. The new plumber then scoped the aftermath and clearly showed me the before and after. I would NEVER recommend doing business with these "Milk as much as you can" types of businesses. The cost was high, but i had an emergency of flooding, which needed to get done right away, so i didn't have time to keep calling folks. The thought was that because i was about to have them swap out cast iron, they would give fair pricing to replace other portions of the sewage line that potentially could fail. I was proactively trying to avoid future plumbing issues as a very untimely issue. I assumed I was getting the whole main sewer line replaced, but they wrote up language where they only covered exposed pipe under my crawl space. I paid 10K+ to resolve issues and remove risk associated with aging pipes only later to discover they didn't touch a large portion. Initially, I was happy that the emergency issue got resolved, but then I would say their pricing practice and honesty are not fair to the customers as they don't give you the full story.very disappointed. After the costly work, I ended up with a blockage experience that I hadn't had prior. A technician came to snake my lines after backup was discovered.Their technician now said I had deteriorated pipes outside of the house, and it was causing blockage . I asked several times for quotes to fix or resolve and was promised, but I never got anything via email text or phone call. I had another blockage issue and the technician came out again to snake the pipes thru the cleaning out but this time they said they found a piece plastic and a piece carpet padding in the lines that had just been replaced.(really odd it wasnt found before) and i didnt witness this being pulled out. After the job, the second time, the technician did not put the cleanout cap back on, so sewage backed into my crawlspace over the next day . I've texted the technician and the agent, and so far, there have been no responses. This requires another insurance claim for restoration. No acknowledgment from ARS. Shop around and make sure they give you the full store about inspection so they aren't price gouging. I've had to have multiple other plumbing companies out, and each one was really surprised that the cast iron was not replaced when the other lines were replaced as it's all the same age. Oh how I wish we had checked the Yelp reviews before calling ARS Rescue Rooter. Our bad. We had a clogged drain four months ago. We called Bill Howe Plumbing who we had used very successfully in the past. While waiting for them, we saw an advertisement from ARS/Rescue Rooter about a flat rate of $88 to clear a clogged drain. That price was lower than Bill Howe's and, since we're on a fixed income, we cancelled Bill Howe and had ARS/Rescue Rooter come out. They cleared the drain as promised and charged us $88. Now to yesterday. We discovered a leak under the kitchen sink so we called ARS and they told us it would be $99 to come out but which would be waived with a repair. The technician showed up about 45 minutes later. His name was Miguel and he was quite nice; professional and courteous. He quickly discovered the problem was the garbage disposal which we had kind of anticipated based on how it was working (or not) recently. He originally quoted two prices for a new disposal and installation. The first price was over $1200 with a five year warranty, and the other over $800 for a three year warranty. He came down to $779 when my husband asked about a senior discount. Although that still seemed excessively high even with a three year warranty, we went ahead and had him do the job. Our bad. Miguel did the job just fine and we paid him. After Miguel left (our bad), we called a number of other places and found that we had been terribly overcharged. My husband later spoke to a representative from ARS who said he would refund only $50 (which felt like a slap in the face) and essentially told us we were out of luck because we had already paid and signed the invoice. We would have been much better off to have paid the $99, sent Miguel on his way and called any number of other companies who would have done the same job for a much more reasonable price. Our bad. It should be noted here that our home is almost 30 years old and it's possible that we'll have other plumbing issues in the future. They were the first result in google when I searched for plumbers and there was a $100 off service coupon. Ruben came to my house to inspect it and told me that the service was going to be $2,200. I said that was ridiculous and he responded by saying he's just the messenger and tried to justify the cost. I said no thanks and they charged me $99 for the visit. It was diligent and resolved the issue in no time. Also, at first I misdiagnosed the problem and therefore they sent me a plumber to address that issue. He fought the traffic and was here in 45 min. When he identified the problem the company sent me another plumber (specialized) who arrived 1hr. later. Purchased a brand new Carrier unit from Tarpy last August. Unbeknownst to me that have been purchased by ARS. Top of the line, spent 21/k. Called yesterday because the display screen said the unit needed to be serviced. I called, the gentleman I spoke to said he could have someone out right away. And it would cost $59, for the service. He was also told me I would get a call when they were on their way. Evan arrived, was great, very respectful. He serviced the unit and said it would cost $69. My husband said in the background...that unit it's even a year old. I explained to Evan that when I purchased the unit I asked about a maintenance plan and they discouraged me from doing so, said I didn't need it because we were covered under our warranty. So...Evan called his manager Angel. Angel said we had to pay, so I paid the $69 bucks. I asked Evan to have Angel call me. Angel called and said the unit was installed 1 year ago...I had to admit I stand corrected...the unit was installed 1 year and 3 days ago. Angel could have upsold me and got me to agree to a maintenance plan in a second. No....he took his $69 bucks. I will be going and getting a maintenance plan from someone else. He cut off his nose despite his face. I contacted ARS/Rescue Rooter/Tarpy Plumbing to set up an annual maintenance plan for my furnace, A/C unit, and water heater. I was previously on such a plan and was glad for it. Technician Delon Jato arrived on time and examined the furnace, finding a couple of concerns which he addressed in a careful explanation of recommended services. He explained the concerns very well, and showed me photos of the relevant parts of the furnace. He was friendly and business-like throughout the contact, and his explanations were excellent and left me with no doubts about the work that was needed. I signed on for the annual plan and approved and purchased the supplemental work. I could not have been happier with the result. read more

We have been using Tarpy for heat / AC unit as they installed the system and it still has some warranty coverages. Now that ARS bought Tarpy I've had horrible customer service. I called about 6 weeks ago to request help. I've wasted 3 days of being at home with service appointments, but the problem was never fixed. Actually one unit was working, but had a buzz that I was trying to get fixed and the technician took it apart, but didn't put it back together. So, now I have less ac / heat working than when I called 6 weeks ago!The technichian will say he needs a part that has to be ordered and will tell me to expect a call when it comes in. However, they never call me back and when I call I just get an answering service that has no knowledge or power to help me. I've requested that a manager call me on Wed and then again on Friday and have yet to have my call returned. I would never use this company and will into my other warranty options. read more

I called Rescue Rooter because I had a leak under my kitchen sink. My garage disposal apparently died as well. I asked if they could replace a garage disposal, and they said yes. I made an appointment to have someone come out. The technician that came out was not only on time, he was courteous, professional, honest, and very knowledgeable. His name was Ed. He replaced the garage disposal in a little under an hour. I was amazed how neat and clean he left my kitchen when he was finished. I am very happy with the service we received from Ed today. The price was a little more than I expected but we'll worth it. I now have a new garage disposal and no more leaks thanks to Ed. read more
