We called them on December 26th at 8am to come out and fix a leaky shower that wouldn't shut off. They gave us many appointment choices and we chose 2-4pm. At 12, they called to cancel that time and reschedule for the next day. I called back and spoke to a rude woman who told me that they had other priority calls to get to. Fine, but what keeping the commitment you made to us and tell the other's to use Bill Howe plumbing?! I asked what happens the next day, do we get bumped again for more higher priority calls? They don't keep their promises to their customers, so we did use Bill Howe and they came out within an hour and 1/2 and took care of the problem. We had a backed up kitchen sink. I called ARS Rescue Rooter and they quoted me $69.00 to clear it. They came out and without even looking at my kitchen drain, started to snake the outside cleanout. Then they asked me to come outside and take a look. There was some black residue on the snake, so they said that the cleanout needed to be hydroblasted. When I asked how much that would cost, they replied, "$1650.00". When I told them no way I was going to pay that much money for hydroblasting my system, they started packing up. When I asked about clearing my kitchen drain, they said that there's nothing they can do and left. So I called JIMMY B. QUICK. They came out and went right to work snaking my kitchen drain. It took ten minutes and my drain was like new! They charged me $85.00 and said have a nice day! Do NOT call ARS! They don't even try to fix the problem and they try to upsell you on paying some ridiculous amount for something that's not even needed! Bad Business! Bad review! read more

This company does not care about you or your time they will make appointments that they can't keep the dispatchers will keep you hanging as they did with me for two and a half days they will pitch you the company line over and over while trying to turn the tables on the story as to why they can't get there and why it might be something you did or the way you made your appointment they supposedly rescheduled us for first in line the next day and then the next day when they hadn't showed up by the time they were supposed to and I called we weren't even on the list of appointments then they said they would be there within an hour still not there then by the end of the day when a technician finally showed up it was too dark for them to do anything pity on the poor technician who supposedly had no idea of anything that was going on through dispatch as they don't tell them anything do not trust anything that they tell you over the phone dispatcher actually didn't care that we we're going to cancel our appointment because obviously it's a numbers game for them since their National they figure they'll get enough appointments and if they make some of the people on happy oh well Didn't just have a minor problem at the house had a gas leak that the gas company turned off gas to our entire house read more

We have been using ARS for years now. They have replaced our water heater, garbage disposal sink faucet ( finally after 15 years I have a properly working faucet!!) they have replaced valves. Broken pipes etc.. we will Always use ARS. Every person who has come to our house has been beyond professional. Want to know which plumbing service NOT to use? Don't call ARS Rescue Rooter. I called them last night because my kitchen sink is stopped up. They told me they would have somebody out today. Three times this morning they called to politely tell me that the service person was still coming out and to just update me. Then they waited until 1 o'clock to call me and tell me oh by the way they don't service my area anymore and they could call another service provider for me but is wouldn't be for a couple of days. So over four phone calls and 12 hours they couldn't figure out they don't service my area until well into the afternoon. Poor Service....don't use these people!!!!!! read more

We called THREE plumbing companies when our kitchen sink backed up...we needed it fixed ASAP, but with it being the weekend, it was tricky getting service lined up. The first two plumbing companies were a joke...couldn't give us any ballpark pricing, couldn't tell us when they could be to us...one left us waiting for a call back for 4 hours only to learn our problem wasn't important enough for them for a weekend call (*eye roll*). ARS was our 3rd call, and we are so happy we ended up with them. It was an unexpectedly difficult/stubborn job due to how our house's pipes and vents are laid out, but the plumber (Eddie K, you are awesome!) never once huffed or got impatient. He was soooo friendly and courteous...kept the kitchen clean and protected every step of the way. Eventually an additional plumber (Richard Hill, you are also awesome!) came to help with additional equipment. The exceptional aspect of ARS is they gave us a flat-rate estimate...we weren't baited in by deceptively cheap initial service call promotions that balloon into hours of pricey hourly-rate work hidden in the fine print. We knew what we'd pay no matter how long the work took - no surprise "oh, uh, let me go sell my kidney" bill. AND they warranty their work!!! If the same problem relapsed in 90 days, additional work was covered. I mean, come on, is that not just friggin' magical? In 5 years in our house, this was our first plumbing problem we needed professional help on...it was stressful finding a good company, but now that we've found a GREAT company, we won't sweat giving them a buzz should another issue arise again. I recently had a plumbing issue and ARS came out immediately on a Saturday! However they had to come back out on Monday to allow time for the asbestos test to come back. They couldn't open up my ceiling to bid on the job til afterwards due to CA law. Although we've used them in the past and I was pleased with their work. I will NEVER use this company in the future due to their outrageous price structure! They quoted me $2500.00 to repair the upstairs neighbors (bathroom) leak that was going into my bedroom. ARS is a rip off! They sent me a FREE inspection of my water heater Sept. 2010. Came out and convinced me I was on "borrowed time" best that I get this replaced. So I did and paid a lot of money for a "TOp of the Line" Water heater WITH a 10 Year Guarantee! Like an idiot I paid over $3,000 for the heater, installation and "Peace of MInd" guarantee. 2 years late the heater was leaking - called ARS and they said I get a replacement at no charge BUT wanted $1,300 to install it! The technician drove away, and had the manager call me and said they could maybe do it for half. If you like getting lied to repeatedly, being treated rudely and having the repairperson show up a full 7-9 hours after the quoted time...then this is the company for you! Oh, and did I mention that the customer service was as clueless as the people actually doing the work? I will not even factor in the fact that the job took less then an hour to replace a $15 part and the bill was for $450. To be fair I was quoted that by the repairman before he started the job but the problem was he didn't start the job until after 10P on a Saturday and I had no idea if (at that point) I could get the job done that weekend. I probably should have just said no and been without hot water for a few days just so their incompetence was not rewarded. I can't recommend these people. All they want to do is sell you expensive repairs. I had them here twice and I was disappointed both times. The first time I wanted them to clear a clogged toilet. I had this company out 3 weeks ago to fix an overflowing sewer pipe/main line in the basement. They also videoed the entire line to see what was wrong. The comments were, "Everything that can be wrong with a pipe is wrong with this pipe." After the supposed clean out they got in touch with the company to do an estimate on the repairs. Their conclusion: there is root intrusion, cracked pipe and the pipe is not connected in some places. Solution: install access point on side of the house, open up the side walk, backfill, shoot 35 ft. of line to clay piping, get city inspection, all for the great price of $15,000. Financing available! I told them forget it. The price was impossible for me. 3 weeks later, the sewer is backed up again, and needs a clean out. Affordable plumbing came out, said they did not find a problem or sense any roots. I'm have another reputable company coming to video the pipe to see it there really are all these problems. I am a recent widow and I feet completely taken advantage because of my situation. But as I read other reviews it seems to be their M.O. NEVER use this company. I am going to report them to the Better Business Bureau. I might even take them to court. I'm completely disgusted by their dishonest business. read more

I hired ARS to clean out the drain pipes in a duplex rental property we recently acquired after one of the tenants notified us the toilet and shower drains were clogged. I found them on the Internet and had never used them before. The good point was that they were able to come out the same day and were pretty much on time. The property is over 50 years old and there were not drain clean outs so ARS had to use a vent in the roof to access the drain pipes. ARS was able to clear out the clogged drains and the system was again working. The bad part was that after clearing the drains, a supervisor showed up and told me that some of the old cast iron drains had rusted out and that a plastic sleeve needed to be placed in the interior drains to prevent further clogging issues. This would necessitate going into one of the units and jack hammering a hold in the slab to access the drains to perform a five day repair costing over $13,000. In addition, the jack hammer would damage the wood floor in the unit, requiring replacement of all the flooring. I assumed that ARS had run a camera down the drains to make this diagnosis, but no video was ever shown me. Because the project was both expensive and would interfere with my tenant's use of their living room, I got a referral from a my general contractor for another plumber. The new plumber confirmed that no camera could access the drains through the roof vent (opening too small). He ended up putting in a new exterior cleanout and jet cleaning the drain pipes. He then put a camera through the cleanout and determined the pipes were in good condition and none of the work recommended by ARS was necessary. All this cost me $2,000 instead of the $13,000 estimate from ARS. Obviously, I don't trust anything ARS says at this point and will never use them again for any plumbing needs. read more

I had ARS come out to do a water heater flush and while they were here I asked them also to fix a leak under the sink. A few days later there was a leak again so when I called them to come out and check it all they had on their records was the water heater flush. Took them a while to find the sink repair. They sent a new guy out to fix it and he said the original plumber had forgotten to tighten down the pipes. They also told me that my water regulator needed to be replaced because the pressure was too high. I had a different company All Cities Water Treatment test the regulator and they said it was fine that ARS had tested the pressure on an outside faucet that didn't go through the regulator. ARS also tried to sell me a water treatment system for $7000 All Cities provided the same system for $2700. Stay away from ARS! read more

11/6 - This is an update to my original review. ARS Rescue Rooter contacted me shortly after posting this review. They provided a correction to the wording on their original invoice which indicated that the cause of the blockage was unknown. This is acceptable to me. In addition, they refunded the full amount of the original service call. I give this company much credit for being responsive to customer input and trying to work out a compromise. My only caution to others is to have any recommendation for significant plumbing work by them be reviewed by another plumber. =============================================================== BEWARE of this company. They may try to sell you repairs which are not needed immediately. We needed to use this company on a Sunday to clear an overflow in a shower drain in a rental property we manage. The company indicated that they cleared the drain of an unknown stoppage. However, the next sentence indicated that it was NOT caused by our tenants. The use of this wording along with the technician talking to our tenants indicating that the pipes were old and needed to be replaced caused us much grief over the next week. When the drain backed up a week later we called them back to clear the drain. This time they indicated that they were unable to clear the drain. They recommended that we jack hammer the concrete foundation and replace a piece of pipe which was 2 1/2 feet under ground. The cost for doing this was about $5,000. They did not provide any other options for resolving this issue short term. The following day we had another drain cleaning service attempt to clear the drain. In 10 minutes they were able to clear the drain. This company identified the source of the problem was a combination of the condition of the pipes under ground and a garbage disposer in our kitchen. Our tenants appear to be dropping a large amount of material into the garbage disposer. The material in conjunction with the condition of the pipes causes the drain to back up. This drain company recommended removing the garbage disposer as a short term fix. The cost for doing this is about $100. I don't understand why ARS Rescue Rooter did not provide this as an alternative option. Either they don't know what they are doing or they were trying to make more money. Please think it over before you take any action based on this companies recommendations. Get another company over to assess the condition. read more

Michael Hoover spent two days trenching and repairing, then refilling the hole. All of his work was done very neatly with great clean up. Very happy with the work. Eddie and Dave were out on Monday (prior) to determine the problem and offer solutions and suggestions. They were both very professional and never pressed to have more work done than I wanted. Gill was great about keeping me informed of Eddie and Dave's delayed arrival time as it became apparent they would not arrive within the originally estimated time frame. I requested Rescue Rooter to check my outside drains with a camera as I knew I had a blockage somewhere and I wanted confirmation of the location. Nothing worked properly. wrong camera, couldn't get round a bend, too much mud and didn't have the device to lift the camera off the bottom of the drain, and, finally, could not determine precisely where the camera stopped because the locator wouldn't work properly. And, finally, the supervisor promised to email a link to the camera footage but didn't do it. What did I get for nearly $400 ... confirmation of the problem I already knew I had. They responded quickly to my water heater call. Once on site the plumber began making several recommendations $$$. Then the regional supervisor shows up to make sure everything is "going well". He starts adding more things that (don't) need to be done $$$$. Meanwhile, the orignal plumber comes in with a high-ball quote. I'm not buying it. So the Supervisor recalcs the work and shaves a couple hundered off. I agree, but am certain my water heater replacement requirement suddenly turned into a twilight zone episode and I was now shopping for a used car. The Supervisor takes off, and the plumber then does some math and tells me the Supervisor's math was wrong and puts back the $200+ shaved off earlier. I chased him off and will never use these guys. Proffessional rip-off artists!! We were referred to ARS when our A/C went out. They came out in a timely manner and diagnosed, replaced the "run capacitor" and took our money, all within 20 min. The original price quoted was $350 for the part and $70 for the service call. Then the tech (Robert) said " I'll give you a break on the part cost. Now we're at $70 service & diagnose fee (Fair price) and $272 for the capacitor. After feeling a little ripped-off, I researched the part both on line and with 3 other A/C companies....the price for that part ranges from $15 to $41 including shipping!! When we contacted the company as per their paperwork that says "Please call if you are not satisfied for any reason", we asked to speak to the manager or owner. The woman told us she would have him call us right back. 3 days later, we've still not heard from this company. read more

I am very satisified with the workmanship that I was given and was particularly impressed with Ruben M. who was assigned to my project and kept me informed and satisified along the way. I do feel, however, that the additional add-charge for "extra digging and shoring" was slightly exhorbinant after a large original bid price for the job and to be cautious about additional charges during the construction process should one arise. When KC arrived he was pleasant and courteous. He gave me a quote and got started right away. He performed his work efficiently.
