I called for a leaky garbage disposal and needed it replaced. I got an appointment for the next day at a reasonable time. The tech showed up and glanced under my sink and said it would be $639! What?! I told him no thanks and that was crazy. Went to a home improvement store and bought a disposal for $100 then $79 for installation. I will NEVER use these people. Very disappointed in their organization. This is the Home Depot contracted company for hot water heater installations. I received two calls back to back from different representatives over a week ago to schedule, which should have been my first sign of disorganization. They had no late afternoon times available, so I agreed to a 4 hour window from 10am-2pm on a Saturday (essentially taking up the whole day). They called to confirm around 9am, but then didn't have an updated window. When I called back around 11, they still said they didn't have an update but would call back with 45mins notice so we could run errands and be home on time. I called back around 1:20 (within the 45min window they were to update us, and before the 2:00 deadline) and they informed me that they still didn't have a technician available and it would be a longer wait with no estimated ETA. So now we've wasted the whole day and still need to drive to LA (now rushed), and they have given another 4 hour window for tomorrow, even though I told them that I wouldn't be available until later in the afternoon, toward the end of the window. Hopefully the plumbing service they provide is better than their organization and professionalism with scheduling... if it is and we decide to go with them, I will update my review accordingly. read more

Get another opinion! Slab leak Sunday morning, they came out and after doing a visual inspection left me with an estimate of almost $6000 to jack hammer concrete and fix a water pipe leak. Next morning (Monday), two other SD county plumbers agreed to fix that same leak for $1050, and they were each around $100 of each other. They were shocked over the ARS estimate and noted that "this is why plumbers get a bad rap". Be careful, and get at least one more estimate before proceeding. read more

Beware of a business that will not give at least a ballpark estimate. I have a clogged toilet and my regular plumber cannot come until tomorrow. Since I took the day off work, I figured I would call someone who could come today. The technician was going to bill me $290 to merely snake my toilet. Before I sent him packing I called my regular plumber who coughed and said " no ma'am we will charge you $98". Buh bye! read more

Challenging and disappointing. We needed emergency service due to a broken pipe. A tech would be available between 2-4pm. We received hourly updates that the tech ran late. Eventually at 7pm he showed up. Considering it was an emergency we just accepted that, happy to get the leak fixed. A follow up appointment was recommended so scheduled days ahead. Tech would arrive between 2-4pm. We received updates hourly he was delayed, in traffic, etc. At 5pm he is "just 45 minutes away". Finally he does arrive at 7pm and clearly uninformed of the scope of the job which he feels is unsuitable to perform in the dark. I freed up my afternoon to accommodate the appointment! Reschedule again for another day, in the morning. Good we did because he needed over 4 hours for the job and would have been at it until 11pm had he done the work the evening he arrived at 7pm. What is the point of scheduling appointments when that can't be kept? Changing time of arrival many times shows bad scheduling. Why wasn't the tech informed about the scope of the job? Why did the area supervisor visit, he didn't do anything, just look at it. The tech did a good job, he was great. The price was steep, but remembering past experiences with ARS, we hoped it would be worth it. The cross selling it absolutely annoying. We will look for a different company in the future. read more

Terrible company, watch out. Had them out for a clogged drain, they showed me a video of my drain saying I needed to dig up concrete, flooring and put in a whole new drain pipe. They quoted me $17,000! I couldn't believe it, nor should I have. The manager came out and he was pressuring me to do it, saying that if I didn't I'd have a bigger problem. I told them I needed to think about it.... they called me back 2 hours later saying they'd do it for $14,000, that's when it got suspicious. A few days later, I had another plumber come out for a second opinion with his video camera, he said there was absolutely nothing wrong with my pipes. The sediment and lines in my pipe that ARS said was evidence that I needed new pipes were considered totally normal by the other plumber. That was 2 years ago and I've had zero problems with my pipes. Thanks god I didn't sign their high pressure estimate and spend $17,000 on work that didn't need to be done. We were disappointed with our wait time. Our schedule was missed on day one and the window was missed again day two. If it weren't for the service from Matt, we would rate as a 1. However Matt came in, did a quick estimate, gave us the "exact" service we needed with no extra costs or any preventative maintenance sales pitch that was not needed. Got in, did the work, got out. We called multiple plumbing companies and ARS was the first available company. They came out 1 day after the call- which was nice. Upon making the appointment, I confirmed on the phone I could use the $88 drain special as advertised on their website. They also had listed a 20% off for healthcare workers- the representative on the call confirmed we could use the 20% off of the $88 special. Gabriel came during the scheduled time. Upon assessing the drain- he wrote up the estimate and said the cost would be $321. When I mentioned the online discount as discussed on the phone-- he said since we didn't mention it, he didn't take it off. His next quote was $257. Again, when we declined and brought up the $88 special, he said finally he could honor the $88 special but not the additional 20% off. Then Gabriel got to work- he was here a total of 2 hours. First he said the main sewer outside was backed-up- I called the HOA to notify them. When I went outside and asked him again for confirmation that the outside main was backed up- he said no that the line was clear (?). I then had to cancel our HOA call. Next- he told my husband he needed to gain access through the sink- but if he touched the sink, it would be an additional cost. My husband took the sink apart for him (even though the bathtub drain was the issue). Next he goes on to tell us there is mud in the pipe- the thinks there is a broken pipe under the house. He is unable to confirm this himself- reports he needs to call another service tech out with an additional camera and that is going to cost more money. At this time, my husband declines additional services. Anderson Plumbing came out the next morning and cleared the bathtub drain within 15-20 minutes (accessed only through the tub) and honored the online special of $53 without any hassle. All plumbing is back to normal. I can't tell if the ARS plumber was trying to scam us or was not experienced. Either way- I would not recommend their services. Call their competition- Anderson Plumbing has been great with 2 service calls! read more

I called ARS for the annual maintenance on furnace and air conditioning unit. To put it simply, ARS gave us a choice of a $3,000 repair or $10,000 for new units. The furnace isnt broken but is 13 years old. I think this pricing is crazy and I am checking other places to call. read more

ARS is an absolute scam. They tried to charge me $1300 for a plumbing part that actually cost $83. DO NOT EVER use ARS! This is my second bad experiece with ARS (you'd think I'd learn after the 1st time). The last job to fix a broken drain cost $500 for a part that I later found for $8. Horrible company that can not be trusted! I called ARS to give me an estimate on installing an emergency gas shut off valve on my water heater. They sent a tech out and he informed me that the whole procedure would take 1/2 a day and cost $688.41.He also told me there was a chance my water heater would rupture in the process and if that happened the bill would be $1800. WHAT?! He was here for 1/2 an hour and drained the water heater. He then informed us that he would return in the morning to complete the job. I called him the next morning and discussed the charges telling him I thought they were a bit excessive. He then offered to take $100 off the top. THIS bothered me and I found it to be completely dishonest. I told him to come and pick up the hose he had left behind and let him know I would be hiring another company. He charged me $150 for the 30 minutes he had been here on the prior day. I called Hanna Plumbing. They were here within 2 hrs. The whole job took less than 1 hr. I was charged a total of $127. I'm furious that there are so many rip off artists out there taking advantage of the public. In the end I am out $150 for ARS but I would much rather pay that and have found an HONEST company I can trust. Call Hanna Plumbing. Shame on you ARS. read more

There was a lot of plumbing problems at my parents place. I had called Rescue Rooter on 4/1/13 and had one of their plumbers come by to give me an estimate on installing a new shower head & faucet, the clogs in the laundry area, kitchen, and bathroom sink. I found out the problems were worse than I thought. I had several other issues that needed fixing and replaced besides the ones that I mentioned. I really appreciate how they worked around my schedule. The plumber guy, Dave, was very friendly, nice, thoughtful, hard working, also neat and clean on the jobs that he had done. I will say, it wasn't cheap, but maintaining a house is never cheap, just like a car. I highly recommend their service to anyone who wants a job well done. Thank you Dave! You are awesome! read more

There is never a good time for a sewer pipe clog, but in the middle of a kitchen remodel has to be one of the worst. We live in an 86 year old house and everytime there's a small problem you worry about it being a big problem. Rescue Rooter was called out to the house on a Saturday afternoon and it was discovered that the clog was so bad they had to put in a new clean-out. It was also discovered that the pipes (cast iron) were cracked with holes in some places. Rescue Rooter suggested we replace the pipes...one problem, our pipes runs under both our neighbors yards. Rescue Rooter suggested a pipe reline. We researched it and decided it was the best possible solution to our problem. Darin, worked with us the whole time, giving us ample time to research, talk to our neighbors, and figure out how we were going to pay for it. There were many concerns and Darin, went way out of his way to make a bad situation good. A copy of the letter I have tried to send to this business: The situation is this. There was overflow from my bathtub in to the unit below, so I called ARS to make sure the overflow was working and draining so there wouldn't be water into the unit below. The plumber came on Dec. 11 and said he fixed that. There was also a problem with the hot water pressure in the shower in another bathroom and I asked the plumber to fix that. The plumber said that was a cartridge but then said he replaced the cartridge and still the hot water would not work. He said he would "only charge me for the part." That sounded crazy, since he didn't fix it, but I gave him my Visa card number for the entire charge of $178.00, because I at least had the overflow fixed. Both things were not fixed. The bath overflow leaked into the unit below again last night, December 13, in a bigger stream than before. ARS sent out the same plumber, this morning. You would think that they would send a supervisor or someone else to check the work. The plumber again says he fixed it and has left the unit. He told the tenant that a gasket was not seated properly on the overflow. But the tenant says that the plumber did not fill the bathtub up to test it. This is really poor work. I'm concerned about the liability to the unit owner below, and that I have paid for work that didn't get done. I shouldn't have been charged anything for the problem of not getting hot water pressure, because it wasn't fixed. The work to get the tub overflow to work was also botched. The bathtub overflow for which I paid $118 should be checked out and tested. The "hot water" issue should be assessed and fixed and the existing charge of $60 credited against doing what is necessary to fix it. read more

Had an emergency tonight with a busted water heater. Rescue Rooter came out on a Sat night at 9:00pm and secured the water and stopped the leak. They didn't charge me anything for the call out and gave me an estimate so I can decide what I want to do next. Great service! Highly recommend for those unexpected emergencies!!! read more

Someone from the corporate did contract me and I got refund of the money that they charged me without doing anything. It's now 7:45 pm only to find out that there are 2 technicians working and most likely will be 2 hours out minimum before they show up. No use of shower or toilet thank you very much. A couple years ago ARS replaced my aging central heating unit and ducting. I assumed the work was completed to CA code. I recently added AC through another company. What was found by that company leads me to post this review about ARS. I had after all relied on Home Depot to vet their subcontracting companies (ARS) to ensure products and services would be done completely according to code. In my case it was not. It seems that ARS did not connect one of the ducts to the register, or air vents. They simply dropped the duct on top of the register, never connecting the duct by way of the stack-head to a can and onto the register. They used my old stack-head, connected it to the ducting and simply laid the duct on top of the register.......no connection whatsoever. To add to the problem, they failed to strap the ducts together per code to ensure they remain in place. And honestly they did not have their work inspected by a city code compliance officer. My fault is that I relied on a so-called reputable company's word the work was done correctly according to code. When I contacted ARS.....no one called me back. read more

If your considering scheduling something with this company, read on before you do. ARS Rescue Rooter, SD, set up an appointment with me for today, Christmas 2018, for 1:30 PM. By 3:00 PM, no one had arrived or called to tell me that they would be delayed, etc. Here's what happened and what transpired when I called them to find out what where they were at. We discovered we had a clog on Monday, Christmas Eve. I called ARS Monday to try to get someone out that day. it was 2:09 PM. I asked what it would cost. The gentleman asked me what was clogged. I told him it was the main line from the house to the kitchen and laundry room. He told me it would be $69, assuming there were no other issues or surprises and there was an external access port (there is) which is their standard advertised rate. He checked and then told me that they didn't have anyone available Monday, but they could have someone there on Christmas, Dec. 25th at 1:30 PM. I asked what it would cost since it was Christmas day. He told me that it was the same price as any other day since I couldn't be serviced the day I called. I said great, then let's book the appointment. I gave them the address, blah blah blah, and he read it back to me. I confirmed the price and he stated it would be $69, unless something else was wrong. Cool. Fast forward to 1:30 PM, Dec 25th. Nothing. Nada. I waited because I know people get busy and fall behind. At 3:00 PM I decided to call and find out what was going on. A woman answered the call and asked me my name. I told her my first name and told her about the appointment at 1:30 PM and that no one had called or shown up yet. Now, this is the important part. She asked me if my address is blah blah blah, and I said yes. She then says she would transfer me to the appropriate office. I assume this must be their answering service. So, another woman then picked up the call and immediately says "Mr. Slack, there's been a mix up on the appointment, we have you down for between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM on Wednesday" the 26th. She then says, "We wouldn't schedule an appointment for a laundry clog for Christmas because we only schedule emergency calls for Christmas". So, I start to tell her that the call was scheduled, and she immediately tells me to stop yelling at her, before I could even get the third word out. I try to tell her I wasn't yelling and, again before I could say three words, she tells me to stop yelling at her and that she was only trying to help me. I tried to say something else and, again, she tells me to stop yelling. So, by now I'm not very happy, I hate being interrupted like that, so I did yell. I believe my exact words were, "No this is yelling, go f#&% yourself." I'm embarrassed by that last part. I apologize for that. They didn't deserve that but, COME-ON! That's the best excuse you can come up with for not wanting to send someone out because your scheduler screwed up? You're yelling at me? Why didn't you just call me and let me know and re-schedule before there was a no-show. Tell me I was quoted an incorrect price. You had my number, I gave it to the scheduler and he confirmed it with me twice. When I gave it to him and then at the end of the call when we confirmed the appointment. But to accuse me of yelling at you? I know you knew it was originally scheduled for 1:30 on Christmas Day. Do you know how I know? Because I never told the answering service my last name or my address, but she asked me if my address was (remember the important part from above) blah blah blah? The correct address! Now, I'll give you the name part, even if I didn't give it to the answering service and you called me Mr. Slack when you answered the call. But NOT the address. She (answering service) had to be looking at the schedule for 1:30 PM on Christmas, the originally scheduled time, to know my address. You blew it and then tried to correct your mistake by lying. You scheduled an appointment. You agreed to a price. But you decided to try to cheat me instead. Your scheduler knew it was Christmas. I reminded him it was and asked what the price would be for Christmas day. So, if you're thinking about scheduling something with this company, remember how I was treated. They might be there, but then again, maybe not. If they decide not to show they'll just make up something to cover themselves. read more

Where to begin. First off these guys are a bunch of rip off artists. Under no circumstances should you use them for anything. This story is a little long but it goes to show how low they will stoop. July 3rd we had a major mainline backup leaving us to barely use the bathroom. The next day being 4th of July we knew we were in for it. I waited until the 5th, called rescue rooter, and hopefully they could clean the blockage out. My wife left early from work, and met the tech at the house. They proceeded to charge us $300 to "clean out" a root invasion in our mainline, and scope the pipes. They told us they drilled a small hole in the root ball. That's it, no clearing of the roots nothing else. I paid $300 essentially for nothing. They proceeded to tell us we had a broken pipe down stream and it needed to be replaced. There was going to be tearing up of the sidewalk, 35 feet of lining and some other stuff. We were told we had a Max of 3 days to fix it otherwise we'd be in for $30,000 repair bill, including digging up the street. I was floored to say the least. They gave us 3 estimates ranging from $8700 to almost $18,000. I called a plumber friend of mine and he advised me to wait until he can talk to some people. I called another company who came out and not only cleaned out the roots FOR FREE. but gave us an estimate of work that was a whopping $2100. Rescue rooter essentially didn't do the work that was initially requested, than used scare tactics, hopefully forcing us to make a hasty decision and spend thousands of dollars. Luckily this wasn't my first rodeo, I'm a grown man, not a kid and I was able to save myself from their shady business practices. read more

My bathtubs had backed up and needed to be fixed. A plumber arrived within an hour and he quickly removed the clog and cleared the drains. Instead of collecting the $188 fee he quoted, he said it might be a good idea to check for leaks under the house. It wasn't something we discussed nor did it seem necessary. He later told me there was a leak under my house and it would cost $3,800 to repair. He said the house was old and pipes wear out. I later found out he cause the damage when he dropped his equipment into the drain, causing the trap to break. If I had not caught him in a deceptive business practice, I would have had to pay for his mistakes. Even after the repairs were fixed, a month later my sink backed up (even after I was told it was fixed). I called to let them know what happened, and I was promised a man would arrive within an hour. Five hours later no one had shown up and when I called to find out when I could expect someone, the woman was very rude to me and yelled at me for asking her for a time.
