I really enjoyed my stop at Artichoke. The place has a chill vibe and the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, even when it got busy. My pizza was delicious, super flavorful, and the portion was way more generous than I expected - one slice was honestly enough for a full meal. The crust had a nice crunch and the cheese was perfectly melted, though my slice was a little burnt on the edge, which was the only small downside. It's a bit of a shame they don't have a restroom for customers, especially when you're dining in, but the service and taste easily made up for it. Overall, a solid spot if you're craving a rich, cheesy slice and don't mind things being a little messy. I'd definitely go back next time I'm in the neighborhood.

In college Artichoke Basille's was a staple meal for me, so being in NYC I was so excited to revisit my college staple! I went around 5:30 on a Wednesday and the place has very little rush. There were about 3-4 other parties there and I was able to order very quickly. I ordered a slice of the artichoke, which was always one of my favorites. I got it to go but since they had ample standing tables available I ended up eating there. They don't have any places to sit here so if you wanted to be comfortable you should take it to go. Pizza was as delicious as always! Creamy, flavorful, and a big size. They have shaker toppings there to help yourself with if you want, but I don't think it needs it at all. Brought back some good food memories and I'll be back to get some vodka Sicilian at a later date!

Heavy on the sauce- just the way I like it. Artichoke is known for the saucy, messy, and cheesy slices that are twice the size of your face. While slightly pricier than the others, the portion is at least double what you'll get in a nearby shop. The artichoke slice is its golden child, but it's just a bit too salty and cheesy for my taste. My favorites are the vodka and margherita. The vodka is the thicker, square slice, but the flavors are unmatched.

I dream of this pizza. Their vodka slice is my favorite pizza on earth. Nothing else compares. My second favorite is their namesake, the Artichoke pizza which is a meal in one slice. This is a simple walk in and order location with several standing tables. Service is efficient and even on a weekend night the wait is not too long. You may also order ahead online. If you are in the area this is a must stop in NYC. If you prefer to eat at a table there are some nearby in Herald SQ park. Get lots of napkins as this pizza is messy and OH SO WORTH IT.

5 stars because one of the pizza slices was life-changing. If it wasn't for that one slice, this place would be a solid 4-star review. FOOD Visiting NY for the second time and I really wanted the NY pizza experience. Saw Joe's Pizza but wasn't impressed with the pizza photos online. And it's not sold by the slice (c'mon, uncle Joe). I kept searching for other options and saw online photos of Artichoke Basille's. There was no denying their pizza is a feast for the eyes. I got the following slices - pepperoni, artichoke, crab, and the Staten Island. The CLEAR winner was the namesake - the artichoke pizza. The slice is bigger than an Acer Nitro V gaming laptop . They have perfected pizza-cheese technology where it's melty on top but creamy like heaven beneath the melty layer covered in artichokes. I took 10 bites and realized I haven't shown the other slices any attention, like a parent with a favorite child. But all the other pieces couldn't compare. So I picked the artichoke slice back up which was now the size of an iPad. I whispered to the slice "We're starting this up again, aren't we?" and finished what I started. I gained 13 pounds from that one slice. I found out there's an Artichoke Basille's in Berkeley, CA. If you're in the Bay Area, it's worth the drive.

Standing room only, really. You order your individual and very large slices of pizza, head over to a table and enjoy...standing! No chairs for the bar tables. Since I'm a seafood lover, I had to try the crab pizza and the Hubs enjoyed the unique creamy artichoke pizza.

Artichoke slice is so heavy, I never tap out but I only could do about half of this. Their regular cheese is much better. Service was great and still cheapish for a huge slice.

Wanted to try Joe's pizza bc it's a famous classic, but there was an extremely long line out the door, so my friend took me to this spot instead. We ordered the vodka, crab, Staten Island, and margherita pizzas. Magherita was easily the best one. Great flavors from the tomato, basil, and cheese combo. The Staten Island was a bit dense and the pizza was floppy because of how much ingredients were on there. The crab pizza had a lil kick to it but nothing crazy. The vodka was basic but yummy with a thicker crust. First NY pizza in the books!

I'm not a huge pizza advocate. If it tastes good then it tastes good. We tried this place as a recommendation from a friend and it was pretty average. I do agree that if you like heavy sauce, then this is the place for you. The slices are huge so be prepared to get your hands dirty. I will say, there was an obscene amount of oil that literally flowed from the pizza and got all over our clothes and the ground. I'm all for greasy food but this was a but too much. The price is also not the cheapest but still under 8$ for a slice. I wouldn't mind coming back here again

FOOD We ordered the Sicilian, artichoke, and pepperoni slices. They were much larger than what we thought they'd be, but unfortunately the slices we had weren't heated long enough despite the burnt crust and undercarriage. Sicilian: Probably the best of the three slices we had. The crust wasn't as burnt, the cheese was melted, and the sauce was warm. Overall a solid slice, but not one I'd go out of my way for. Artichoke Slice: The sauce was thick and creamy and definitely had a wow factor at first bite, but it quickly got bland as we ate the rest of the slice. The burnt base and crust wasn't particularly helping us finish the slice either. Pepperoni slice: The pepperonis were the star of the show-- thick and crispy and very flavorful. The red sauce complemented it well, but unfortunately as the slice wasn't heated for long, the cheese wasn't melted so it wasn't the most enjoyable to eat. DRINKS Canned sodas and beers are available for purchase in cooler inside the store. SERVICE The environment is very quick-paced, even during non-peak hours. We came in around 2-3 pm and even though it was a line of just 4-5, the staff filtered through us quickly. Note that cash is preferred, and there is a transaction fee for credit card use. AMBIANCE Although no seats are available inside the store, tabletops are available to eat while standing. Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and dried pepper shakers are chained to the racks against the walls for guests to use.

We got the signature artichoke pizza which tastes like spinach artichoke dip on a pizza. It was huge, enough for two people to share. The tables are standing room only, but they have seasoning and napkins all over the walls. The guy was nice when we ordered and the pizza was good.

We got a slice of pepperoni and a slice of Margherita and it just melted in my mouth. The flavors, the perfection of the thin crust, the seasoning -- I wish I lived much closer! We also got garlic knots which were awesome also! I enjoyed the sitting at the counter experience and having an ice cold coke with my slice. It was the best snack before my next dinner meal and I cannot complain at all! This is definitely one of my favorite pizza places in NY!

Pizza is ready in 15 minutes, which in my case was less time for me to walk from hotel and pick it up. This location had two storefronts- one for pizza by the slice and the other for the full pie. Full pie line is shorter though still formidable. Line by the slice stretches around the corner. Pizza itself is all right. Toppings are pretty average and crust is chewy as it should be. Little bit too hard on my opinion. As a tourist - it was a must try. However - I wouldn't do it again.

The arancini was a standout: perfectly crisp on the outside, creamy inside, and served with a rich, delicious sauce that tied it all together. We ended on the tiramisu, which was absolutely worth saving room. It was light, flavorful, and a perfect finish to the meal. What really elevated the experience, though, was the staff. Everyone was genuinely kind and helpful--especially notable for New York--and it made the whole evening feel relaxed and welcoming. A small heads-up: it's a bit tricky to find, so give yourself extra time. That said, the hidden, underground subway setting is part of the charm and makes the whole experience feel unique. To start with the good: the arancini were perfectly passable, and the Sicilian pie was enjoyed by all. I would describe it as more of a Detroit style actually, with a super crispy crust and nice textural contrast. On the other hand, we did not enjoy the seasonal vegetable pie or the nepo pie. I generally really like this sort of no-cheese, umami-heavy pizza, but the nepo was so salty! I'm not sure what specific ingredient was missing, but missing it was. My hopes for a recreation of the rossa pie I enjoyed at Farina prior to their closure were dashed. As for the vegetable pie, the vegetables tasted like the frozen veggies one might find in what was once marketed as a "TV dinner". It was a shame, since the sauce of the white pie was otherwise pretty good.

Hoping to salvage the meal, I ordered their Chicken Parmesan. It was the Hail Mary pass that unfortunately did not connect. I have to say the centerpiece of the entire narrow room is the bar itself, and let me tell you, it is an absolute stunner of a contrast. Instead of the usual dark, sticky tavern wood, they've dropped in a long, continuous slab of pristine, elegantly smooth white stone. It glows under the soft lighting like a block of polished marble.
