I discovered this place about 5 years ago and every time I'm in NYC I have to stop!! I always go to the original location. *cash only* I was bummed to find out that the original had a fire and had to close. Luckily they opened a spot right across the street!! The artichoke pizza is hands down my favorite pizza. I've had the others, but artichoke is my all time favorite. While nothing ever beats the original, the new location does have more space inside. The only thing I didn't notice was bottle beers. I used to love coming in town and having a beer with my slice. Today I didn't see beer on the menu or in the drink case. This location is one out of about three locations I've been to and the experience is just as fantastic. I typically get the slice with basil and I don't regret it. Although you're paying $5 for one slice, it's well worth it! This pizza especially hits the spot when you've had a few drinks and/or is starving. The day was November 11, 2022 (11,08,2022). I went into artichoke pizza (the one on 5th Ave) to order my favorite pizza of choice, which is the artichoke pizza (obviously lol). With that being said, the moment I entered the establishment I felt a weird sense of animosity from the workers, kind of was getting the vibe that I was not wanted in said establishment. More so, when I ordered my pizza the cashier asked me if I wanted my food to stay or to go. I said that I wanted to stay, as it was raining outside. The cashier proceeded to give me my food, which I took to the bar stand. When I put my food down at the bar one of the workers, a Caucasian looking, short bald man. Says I have to buy a drink in order to sit at the bar. That took me by surprise, as the cashier insinuated that it was alright for me to eat inside. Needless to say, the bartender was not having it, dude basically pushed me out the door with his energy. I asked the bartender if he could let things slide this one time because no one was in the establishment except for me, but he would not budge. He even said that he could get me a box to go, again pushing me out of the door with his energy. Basically, what I'm trying to say is why did the workers initially give me the impression that it was alright to eat in the restaurant, when in reality I did not have a choice? Idk if it was racial hostility, as I am a tall African American male. Enough said, I do not want to point fingers, but this establishment definitely has to work on their hospitality. Either that or the staff has to become better at conversing with each other. I did nothing wrong, so their was no reason for me to get tossed out the way that I did. We just had our slices of pizza and boy were they good. The service was quick and the staff is friendly. We ordered two slices of pepperoni and two slices of artichoke but we could've been fine with a single slice (HUGE size). The pepperoni pizza was good, nothing ground breaking about it... the artichoke pizza though was amazing! It packs in a lot of taste and sauce, to the point of being overwhelming when you're almost done with it. The only downside is that the pizzas are extra salty, so I suggest drinking a ton of water after to dilute all that sodium. Definitely recommend! read more

Artichoke pizza never failed me - whether it's a weird timing for hunger in between lunch & dinner, or starvation during late nights after nice workout from bar-crawls and clubbings, Artichoke has always been my best friend across New York City. Never had an Artichoke slice I didn't like... I haven't tried the SICILIAN tho Nothing is different with this location. I've been there when is packed and when it's chill...many times. After watching a video on Facebook about their slices back over the winter, and hearing/reading awesome things about the pizza there, I couldn't wait to visit. If you are like me, everything you read, heard and saw is 100% true. The artichoke slice was the best piece of pizza I've ever had in my life. I happen to be a fan of cheese, artichoke and bread so this was seriously made for those like me! The artichoke slice is huge and you'll only need one which, at $5 a slice, is great. The other slices are big as well. Not much else as far as variety, but you don't need it-just get the artichoke. The pizzeria itself is a little, old hole in the wall. We got there around 8 pm, there were still people waiting of course, but it ensured us a seat at 1 of the two tables which definitely needed a cleaning. Loved the original floors but it was Africa hot in there! I saw an AC but it wasn't on. So uncomfortable with the NYC humidity that we took our slices and sat outside to finish. One of the sexiest margherita slices I've had. I dont care, I'm adding on to the hype despite the "overrated" cries. I love this pizza. The slices are huge, the ingredients are fresh, and the staff has always been kind. If you're more of a sauce aficionado this is a good spot for you. I've taken friends who told me it was too sauce heavy. I'm convinced "sauce heavy" isnt a real thing. Give me all the sauce. Drown me in the sauce. I would like to bathe in this sauce. But...moving on... Besides the margherita I've had the meatball and plain. Both are good. Cost me $12 bucks. Small selection of slices, wish there was more of a vegetable option as they're all very heavy toppings but they work! You either like this style of pizza, or you don't. This definitely isn't my favorite slice, but that's personal taste. I live in the area though - north Park Slope - which for a Brooklyn neighborhood, has remarkably poor quality slice joints - so I find myself grabbing a slice or two once a month from Artichoke. So my one star isn't based on comparing this to anywhere else.. My one star is based on the fact that EVERY single time I get a slice from this place, it is cool, luke warm at best. The pizza is so cold that the cheese is no longer melted, but has congealed back to some unappetizing glob of fat. You know when you put chicken soup in the fridge, and the next day there is a 1/4 inch of fat on top (which is just nauseating to look at)? The cheese on one of their slices reminds me if that. Anyway, even if I ask them to make it hot, even if I ask them to make it super hot, it comes out luke warm. Cold pizza is fine if you're eating leftovers, but if you're picking up a slice from the pizzeria, that's just unacceptable. read more

I've long bemoaned the rising prices of slices of pizza; from a single buck, the price has slowly crept up into the two dollar stratosphere, with most slices going for more than that. Imagine my surprise when I willingly shelled out $6 for a single slice of pizza. Once the slice came out of the oven and onto my plates (! two of them), I started to understand why this pizza demanded the premium price. The slice was almost the size of two regular slices and had a thick crust, covered in a creamy, cheesy sauce all over the slice. With slices of Artichoke Basille's pizza, the saying "less is more" comes to mind. Although the concept of cream, cheese, artichokes and bread sounds like a wonderful combination, when put together in the proportions of the Artichoke Pizza Slice, they become overpowering and leave me slightly nauseous at 2/3 of the way through the slice (which may be about 2 full slices of a normal pie). That being said, perhaps having this slice in two settings, or very very slowly would be advised. Other things to note: theres limited seating here (2 tables and a counter to stand at) and they only accept cash (ATM helpfully next to the counter) read more

There's nothing like a failed job interview to put me in the mood for pizza and Artichoke's did not disappoint the disappointed. I passed on the special artichoke pizza with a spinach cream sauce and instead ordered the Margherita with plum tomato sauce, basil, and cheese. But I couldn't help my hankering for artichoke hearts. (It's in the name after all.) The counter worker was happy to put a generous helping of hearts on top (for a fee) and warmed up the giant slice that took two plates to serve. I paired it with a hard cider for a delicious consolation lunch. The ingredients were fresh and the crust had that crispy twice-baked quality.
