Knew my rear brake pads were getting low after a few routine inspections done, first during an oil change at my mechanic in LA, and then another at Toyota (brought in to fix a basic factory recall). 1. These guys beat all other estimates received for premium pads (and rotors IF they were needed -- which thankfully they were not), by a significant amount. Toyota you'd expect, but shocked they were able to beat the other local estimates by so much. 2. They saw me and took my car in without an appointment. 3. Occasionally, I would hear a light squeal when braking in my '04 Accord, and decided to err on the side of caution and get it checked out. I saw that Art's was well-rated, so I stopped by. I explained the issue and he did a brief inspection of all 4 pads, got up and told me, "Nope, your brakes are still good. I can see you putting another 20,000 mi on these." He explained that the mild squeak was likely idiopathic, but said to give it about 5,000 mi and if the sound ever got worse and was annoying me too much, he could change out the brake pads for me. Where do you find that kind of honesty these days?? He told me they also do oil changes, and he even helped me back out of the lot onto 10th Street when I asked!! It had been YEARS since I had had the breaks serviced on my car, so I knew that there would be some extensive work necessary. I couldn't be happier that I took the time to find this place. Juan was able to get me in as soon as they opened on a Saturday morning, and showed me how badly worn my brake pads had gotten and how they were grinding on my rotors. Within 3 hours he had replaced both front rotors and brake pads, and for a FRACTION of what it would have cost anywhere else. I took my car in to get my brakes done at a different nearby tire shop nearby and on the way back After dropping my car off. I stopped in at arts and asked what the cost would be for the brakes to be done on my 2012 Honda accord they gave me a quote right then and there. I got a quote from the other discount location for $758 for my front and rear brakes 199 for my front and you can see 560 for my rear brakes. So I let them do my front brakes and then took my car over to Art's's they did my rear brakes for $240 total drums and pads complete. Very good service very quick clean shop very nice people local I will use them again whenever needed and be sure I let my friends know. Good mechanics are hard to find. read more

After putting on new tires at Discount Tire I was told I needed new brakes. My regular local go-to mechanic closed shop a couple years ago so I wasn't sure who to turn to. Since they closed all i've needed on my truck is oil changes so I haven't found a new spot yet. I walk daily by this place so I figured i'd give them a try. I'd rather give my business to these smaller business than to the larger chains around town anyhow. They quoted me $40 cheaper for the front brakes than Discount so I figured why not. After the work was done it actually ended up costing more than the Discount quote but he did say they used better quality parts. He also told me I will need back brakes soon too. The guy seemed fairly honest, but who's to say. I hadn't checked yelp before trying out this spot and since there really is only one review on this business I'm still unsure about going back. I just did a search and found Lam's Auto Repair, got a quote $80 less than Art's for the back brakes so based on the 5 star status of Lams i'm going to give them a try tomorrow. Hopefully I'll find my new go-to mechanic there. read more

Drove up without calling for an appointment and was immediately welcomed. It was Tuesday at 11 am so I wasn't expecting the shop to be busy and it wasn't. I went in for an oil change and my car was leaking oil. The mechanic directed me to Royal Cafe around the corner to wait which was great. When I finished my latte I walked back over, it had been 20 minutes since I left. He explained that my oil filter had a hole and needed to be replaced. The way he explained the situation was very easy for me to understand, which I appreciated since I know nothing about cars. On my under shield plate there were screws missing that they replaced for me. Oil change was $28 and new parts brought my total to $52. I did not feel ripped off and was expecting to pay $50 because I knew I had a leak. Thank you to the mechanics there for making my car run better than has!
