Came here for breakfast to sit down and eat. We usually get take out. Which is really good too. We were sat immediately, brought out water and was able to order within 10 minutes of walking in. Very efficient. There are many options but this Xtreme Salad stuck out to me. It was $11.99 although it shows on the menu as coming with fruit it does not. The patties are big , juicy and seasoned to perfection. The portion. Is huge! I had some much left over for later. And the Texas toast was some of the best I've had. It was cool to be able to use the toast to make a mini burger as well. This place is friendly and very welcoming. Definitely you neighborhood place. There is a nice setting with a bar without drink if you don't feel like sitting at a table or both. Can't wait to come back and try more. The chicken dinner was delicious as well. read more

Sometimes the little "divey" places have the best food. My server Marcy was super fast and sociable you knew she's experienced server and a downhome girl. This was my first time but you an tell they got regulars and she knows them, what they their usual is and when they come in. In today's day and age it's so nice to have a personal touch and a laid back environment. The options are so numerous they would be impossible to name. Places like this I usually try the biscuits and gravy or corn beef hash. Since the only gravy option was pork I got an Irish skillet with cornbeef hash, eggs, fried potatoes, shredded cheese and plenty of onions and green peppers. A little disappointing for me because it was clearly canned or preprepared hash. I like corn beefed hash made from real corned beef. The half waffle I chose as my "bread" item was light and fluffy. FYI- Only syrup choice is warm maple. I don't know what brand of coffee they use but I didn't really prefer the taste. Lol they have like 6 different choices of hot sauce. Well I ate the waffles and half the skillet and I was full. So I had breakfast at a decent got full. Nothing fancy, nothing special but got the job done. Only gave 3 stars because there's nothing special for me, but some people like and prefer that so please do consider giving Art's a try. I always wanted to try this place as they seem busy all the time. We went for lunch and only waited for about 5 minutes. This is not a big space but there are so many tables there so it is not very cozy. The menu has so many items and fun to look at. I'm at Art's skillet, so might as well try a skillet. I tried Meat lover's skillet. Their food is priced very reasonably, compared to other breakfast/brunch spots I've been to, which is great! Food was great. It had a lot of ham and bacon. This is definitely a solid breakfast spot. The service is always great and friendly and the food portions are huge. Their fried biscuits are so good! Their other food is decent and is typically very potato heavy. They have the little square potatoes and I do wish they came out crispier. Be aware that they do not serve peanut butter. One morning I had my heart set on peanut butter pancakes and the waitress said they didn't serve peanut butter. Broke my heart a little lol. Recently I tried their avocado toast - it looked amazing but wow it was doused in lemon juice. Each bite was so sour that I couldn't finish it. I have been going to this location since they opened. My issue is consistency. I am not sure about the kitchen staff because the quality has changed. Not bad just inconsistent. They can't seem to get orders to go correct and the logic of the orders based on what you order. The one thing that I really have an issue with is when ordering tacos. If I order 3 tacos, I get 2 limes, sometimes 1 but never a lime for each taco. I have to ask every time and when I do, they still get it wrong. The verde salsa, sometimes 1, sometimes 2, sometimes red, sometimes not. One time I got sour cream, of which I do not ever want on a taco. Other inconsistency is with egg whites. Key word is "white". Not brunt brown or taupe tan, but white. Forgotten drinks to go with order as needing to ask. The food is good, but the inconsistency of the food and making obvious errors are things I have noticed over the years. I would have given 4 stars, but either eating in or takeout, the kitchen is NOT as good as it used to be. read more

This not my first time here, but finally able to give this place its flowers! This time around it wasn't as busy as the first time, (jam packed). It's decent in size when not so busy, and definitely gives its true diner feel, was seated quickly near the bar top area, and Marcy was the server. She had the most interesting personality as you can see she was everywhere helping and knew just about everyone when customers came in. Noticed one particular worker on the floor when every time I looked up she was on her phone which shows to me that was more important then her job and mind you is unsanitary in a food establishment! I ordered the Navy Seals Skillet with wheat toast and a side of cheese grits. Mmmmmmm the skillet was delicious and had my taste buds jumping! Toast buttered well! When you think of diner - think of this place! Generous portions of anything you order. We were a party of four during Sunday brunch and only had a 15 minute wait for a table. Xavier was very happy with his steak and eggs, the croissant breakfast sandwich and the bagel sandwich were made with fresh ingredients hot off the grill. Place was comfortably busy at 8:30 on a Saturday morning- no wait, but enough people it wasn't awkward. I had checked out the menu online ahead of time, but when I saw the real thing, it had so many more options! I ordered the cinnamon roll pancake combo and coffee. The portions were massive! Aug. 24, 2023. I've been to this specific location of Art's Skillet before and since this visit. I order one of the pancake dishes everytime and they're perfect! This time I got banana chocolate chip pancakes. Art's has a classic diner breakfast and lunch menu served with a smile. The restaurant is always clean and the entire staff is amazing. Around the walls are paintings by Art himself which is really cool! There has never been a wait time and we're always seated quickly. I visit this location with a regular customer and the entire staff knows them by name! They chat with us in a very friendly and warm manner. I'd definitely recommend stopping by here. You may even meet the owner of the chain himself (I have once while dining)! read more

What a great little diner! Great breakfast menu. Amazing service! My husband had a bagel breakfast sandwich. I had the breakfast chicken quesadillas. Both breakfasts were delicious and came with the best fried potatoes that magically stayed hot from start to finish. Coffee was refilled frequently and without having to wave down a waitress. Our waitress even offered coffees to go without our asking. The food was so good we came back for breakfast the next week. My husband had the bagel sandwich again. I had a western omelet. We both had those magical potatoes again. Again, the service was spot-on and friendly. As we were getting ready to leave, someone at a nearby table was served a delicious-looking club sandwich and fries (my husband's favorite). I'm sure we'll be returning soon for lunch. read more

We sat at the breakfast bar, the server way pretty chill, the environment just as relaxed and nice. They had amazing coffee, we got the Rocky Point Biscuit and the Breakfast Torta. All amazing!!! Doesn't look like much from the outside but this is one of the cleanest and friendliest breakfast joints in Indy! We were greeted immediately, seated immediately and our server was so great! She helped us right away and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered two kids meals, the smiley face pancakes and the silver dollar pancakes, both were scarfed down by our kids. I ordered the surfer skillet which was really yummy!! My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy and he was very pleased with it. Before our breakfast arrived we saw a mouse scurry out from under a booth and head toward the kitchen. Not a great start. The food itself was OK. The baked oatmeal was fine and difficult to mess up. My wife's pancakes were passable but inferior to IH**'s, which may have spoiled our taste buds. I will be completely honest that I did not know what to expect when stopping here, but it definitely was a solid experience and over expectations. The biggest draw for me was the cinnamon roll. It was huge and so tasty. I ordered and omelette, and did not realize how much food was included with it. I got potatoes and French toast. The omelette was a little dry, but everything was very good. I wasn't even able to finish it all, but I kept pushing because it was so good. The waitstaff was very nice and attentive. I will say I thought the tables were a little close, both for Covid and noise reasons. The restaurant was packed, and it was hard for us to talk to anyone not sitting right next to you because of noise. What a great place to go a couple of times a week. Me and my husband absolutely love art skillet. Art himself welcomes as many times a week. His staff know us by name, and all of the waitresses are friendly and sweet. The food is wonderful and most of the patrons even know each other by sight, waving as we go bye. I really liked Art's Skillet and I order to-go via DoorDash/UberEats often. My favorite item to order is the Navy Seal's Skillet. The skillet is great and you also get pancakes with it. I always choose to get chocolate chip pancakes. I love the cheese, peppers and onions in the skillet, it's delicious. If you choose to dine in, you will be sat quickly and the servers are always attentive and the food comes out fast. This is one of my go to breakfast spots on the east side. read more

Just stopped here for breakfast. They serve breakfast and lunch and their breakfast menu is very extensive, 4 pages. It is a place that reminds me of bit Denny's. The waitress was nice and attentive and the place was clean. I ordered the Irish skillet with poached eggs. The skillet had corned beef hash, potatoes, onions, bell peppers, and eggs. I will give kudos to the chef they were perfectly poached eggs. The only thing I didn't care for was the whole wheat toast it wasn't done enough and it wasn't hot enough. It was a hearty meal and I spent $11.75. I am sure I will stop at Art's Skillet again. read more

As a fan of the Pendleton Pike location of Art's Skillet, I eagerly anticipated the opening of Art's at this second location on Indy's Eastside a block or so from Washington Square in the spot previously held by CiCi's Pizza and, for a very brief time, Gramboli's. If you know Art, and there's no doubt he'll respond to this review as he does nearly all of them, you know that he's a nice guy with good employees who make quality food at fair prices. The Pendleton Pike location seems to be nearly always packed, though that's also because its location is a rather small free-standing building that has been impressively outfitted. This location is in a strip center with nearby accessible parking and an appropriate curb cut. The entryway has two sets of doors, the first a double-set of glass doors and the second a lighter door that goes immediately to a host station. To your right is a small area area that has a divider. There's a step to get up to it - so this area is largely off limits to those in wheelchairs. However, to the left is the main dining room with a row of booths against the wall and a center row of tables. There's another row that looks like it's set up to be for booth/table combos, though when I arrived today the floor design was a long row of tables - I believe this was to accommodate a couple of larger parties. I arrived somewhat late in the lunch hour and there weren't a lot of table options available. However, there was a decent-sized 2-top right in the middle between two of the larger parties. Both parties were friendly and this wasn't particularly bothersome. My server, whose name I never got, took my drink order, the usual unsweetened iced tea, and left me with a menu. I did think the return was just a touch slow, though they were definitely busy. I'd driven by once before, in fact I'd posted their opening on Yelp, but hadn't had the chance to return for a meal. I have to be honest. I expected to completely love this experience. I absolutely have loved every visit to Pendleton Pike and you can tell this location is still just sorting things out. I also think that Art's is, at its core, a breakfast joint even if it is open until 4pm. I've had the same experience in other restaurants - when you go toward their lunch menu, it's simply not as strong. There are exceptions, but it seems to be true. Today, it was about 1pm and I really wanted lunch. I spied a breaded tenderloin and made it a combo with fries. The entire bill was just over $10 - a definite value. The tenderloin was nicely breaded and of decent size. It wasn't the best I've had, but I would easily order it again. The fries were plentiful, quite generous actually, and the nicely seasoned fries complemented the sandwich well. I really wrestled with my rating here. I never contemplated a 5, which really surprised me. I did contemplate a 4, but I've decided to hold off on awarding that 4th star until I return after they've been around a bit. The food? Probably about a 3.5 today. The tenderloin was a mid-range sandwich for me, though it was priced well. The flavor was a touch bland, but I enjoyed the sandwich. I did get an iced tea refill. The big issues for me were atmosphere and slightly off service. My server was perfectly friendly, just kind of slow. He also kind of violated some things that always bother me - like dropping off the check well before I was even done. That sends the message "It's time for you to go." As someone who tends to linger, I just didn't like that - it also told me that I was done being served (though to be fair, he did check in one more time). Because of the floor design, I also had to deal repeatedly with servers walking between my table on both sides. I really, really hated it. I got bumped more than once and, quite honestly, apologizing is fine but it was still disruptive to my meal. As I noted, I don't think this is the usual design - thus, I tend to think this will be better upon future visits. I nearly always take off at least a 1/2 star if there's a part of the restaurant that's not accessible, and there is, but in this case I just didn't get the usual sense of hospitality that I feel from Art's. I felt rushed, my meal wasn't peaceful because I had to look at rear ends on both sides of my table, and it was just a touch slow. In other words, it was a good meal...but I expected better than that. There was no reason to complain about the food, or anything else for that matter, but I also don't have it in me to give a high rating when I know Art's has a higher standard and usually performs at that standard. So, there you go. For now, I'm going with a 3-star rating - I recommend it, but I'm hoping to go at least 4 if not 5 on future visits (and I will definitely go back). I loved reading the first review, a solid 5-star rating and my gut feeling is that most will fall in love with the place. So, don't let this fairly modest praise hold you back. I've been to Arts Skillet on many occasions, both locations. I've never been disappointed with the food or service. I've tried several different things for breakfast and it's always fresh, hot and delicious. The location on East Washington is my favorite. The staff is wonderful! Love the coffee too! I am sorry to say I've never tried the lunch, can't seem to make it past ordering their breakfast. If you are in the area, stop and enjoy a great breakfast! read more

Stick to the breakfast menu or order the Fried Chicken. We have eaten here three times. The first time was the best and it has gone down from there each time. The decor is terrible. It is so dated that it looks dirty. The first time our server was excellent. (White girl with black hair who looked around 5'7" late 20s-early 30s.) She helped us navigate the enormous menu and my whole family was happy. She was so kind and accommodating and the main reason we returned. The food is okay depending on what you order. I didn't get the Eggs Benedict because the Hollandaise was from a bottle, which doesn't bode well for other sauces and dressing. Our experience was fine until we went to pay. I complimented our server and then the woman at the register made a snide comment about her. Something akin to: [Name]? Really? She did a good job for once? Later I found out that she is the OWNER! Why would she do that!?! I still think about it sometimes. The decor is hideous. Everything looks dirty, although I never saw anything dirty or sticky. Negatives: 1) The owner 2) The decor 3) The bathroom ( I can't remember why, however. It felt like it was hard to leave without getting dirty hands.) 4) Some servers are better than others...by a lot. 5) Breakfast is good, but Lunch/Dinner leaves something to be desired... except the Fried Chicken. That is delicious. A good sear on the gyro meat and more tzaziki sauce and tomato would vastly improve the dish. I didn't dislike it enough not to eat it, however. 6) The Hollandaise is from a bottle. Doesn't give much hope that any sauces or dressing is house-made. 7) Seating seems a little too close, but I don't know what the rules are. 8) We have never been greeted at the door. We just stand there awkwardly until a server notices us. Meh. This place is okay, but nothing to write home about. Our third visit was our last in all likelihood. read more
