Sat next to server station which has a squeeze bottle of mayo and other condiments a ramekin of shredded cheese on counter instead of in fridge directly under it mind we were there over an hour half. Plus massive amounts of garbage under it. Also server served that ramekin of cheese about the time we left. YUMMY Got served by two different servers and the cook got best service from cook. Server dropped off drinks no straws next came asked for them had to go get them saw our food in window just hanging out until cook brought it over he at least refilled our drinks. Server dropped off food didn't notice both drinks empty on very end of table. Asked what kind of cheese was on my grilled cheese she said American and Swiss I asked if it was real cheese she replied yes see it's sliced from Gordon's So it's a wax cheese product? Arts is always a local Glen Arbor favorite & always worth it! Their soups are amazing - the "Rueben" was soooooo good! We also had the wide crinkle cut sweet potato fries with their dip - amazing! Good brews on tap & good variety in bottles too. Never go wrong with Art's! genuine small town goodness at it's best. My family has come here for years & has always been pleased. Will return again & again... BTW - to the complainers... (Cash only) - sometimes the best places I find are cash only. Came here for the first time when my friend and I planned for the sleeping bear dunes trip. It's cash only and we came for breakfast. Its a nice and small diner with cool college decor inside on the ceiling. We had the breakfast platter with their homemade sausage, some eggs, toast and potatoes. Pricey bar food and all sides a la carte? You already know it. "Welcome to Art's, you've made a huge mistake" their motto, probably. Hostess was not good but it's too much to explain here. Would not move us from a table with a dair conditioner dripping from the ceiling, instead opting to seat us all on one side of the table like the last supper. Honestly not sure how this place is a staple in Glen Arbor; it's a dive bar with dive bar food. Stopped in here for lunch with a mate, expecting great things since I've seen lines outside before. Sadly, I was underwhelmed and puzzled as to why the lines at all. It doesn't offer anything; decor is that of a garage sale and it's quite small inside (hence the line but why I still don't know). But people are friendly and it's a locals hangout I assume. We sat at a center table and service was quick, which is great. Beer selection was okay but I had to get a back up beer to back up my other back up beer cause they didn't have them. Needless to say, I found a good ale and stuck with it. On to the food... I love smoked wings; they had smoked wings, new to the menu. This is a lie. They are NOT smoked at all. They are your typical bowling alley deep fried, drenched in Franks, slippery, greasy junk that matches the bar. Awful. And why does your ranch have bubbles in it?? My mate tried the chili; watery junk but at least it had flavor. Also had the grilled chicken sandwich. Best thing about it? The bun. It was really good. Other than that, it was nothing special. Bottom line this place is worth skipping unless you're in a jam and have nowhere else to go. It's overpriced (Bill was $68!), they only take cash or check, and you'll end up unfulfilled and happy your experience is over. Food and atmosphere lived up to both the recommendation from my friend and the writeup in their website. The restaurant was busy but operating efficiently. I've loved Art's for 30+ years. I'm glad they don't take credit cards because, frankly, it siphons off the phonies. The place is crowded enough WITHOUT the people who can't order a hamburger without a VISA card. Here's what really irks me about @ValerieB's review: The age of the waitress has nothing, nada, ZERO to do with your experience. You'd never, ever, mention it if the waitress was black, or Jewish. You'd be ashamed, as you should be. Maybe I've "been an adult too long," but the critique about how the waitress was old rankled. If you don't have something better to say than that the waitress was old, SHUT UP. Food bad? Fair enough. Service lacking? Bring it on. Waitress old? NOT WORTHY OF YELP. Here's a news flash: old people EXIST. And, sometimes, they dare to show their faces in public and WORK. Rant over! Art's is the perfect place to chill with a beer and a burger in Glen Arbor. It's nothing fancy, kind of a dive, and always pretty packed but it's not terribly pricey and the patio is perfect on a sunny afternoon. Yes, I like it. Most of the beers are your standard brews but they do carry some local Michigan beers in bottles, which is a nice option if you want something a bit more craft. Whenever I pop by I usually go for a burger and some tots. The burger is nice and juicy, the tots are crunchy and perfectly salty. I also like that the burger isn't HUGE. Sure, it's impressive to get a 10oz burger or whatever but this one is much more manageable and I don't feel as guilty when I polish it off. Which I always do! Sometimes the wait can be long. I usually don't do the wait because while it's a great place it's not an hour long wait great but if I see some tables available you better believe I'll pull up a chair. Ventured up from Empire to the Glen's to check lakeshore ice formations. This was the only open restaurant. Got the parmesan encrusted fish (whitefish?). Wanted the European Perch but they can't get it here any more so it's imported. I took the other fish choice to stay local. As you can tell from my inability to identify my fish, my tastes are rather pedestrian. Tend to like my fish filleted and well done, preferably something like fish & chips. I thought my fish was undercooked but my friend, who got a portion, said it was perfect. (Checked the online menu - it was whitefish.) No smelt available. Become a rarity in Michigan. Long gone are the days of catching smelts using a bucket while standing in a river. Tater tots were nice; I rarely see those on menus any ore. They were especially tasty dipped in tartar sauce! Suspect I was merely using them as a vehicle to eat the tartar sauce. Staff nice. Microbrew beer menu wonderful. Cash only! Good, stop feeding fees to the charge card companies! Yeah prices seem high but this seems to be a pandemic side effect at every restaurant. At least it is open. read more

When I was a kid, I'd come in here, put $5 bucks in the jukebox on Ghostbusters, then sneak back to my table to eat and watch everyone else lose their minds by the time it hit the 10th play. Now I come here, get loaded and bitch about the crowds. Good times! Nice owner, friendly staff, great food (tater tots, whitefish, burgers, pizza - the usual up north fare, burgers are HIGHLY recommended, salads & dressing are surprisingly good), lotsa booze, rustic charm, etc. Good beer selection, cheap to pricey, they have something for everyone on that front. A few tv's behind the bar, so a fine place to catch a game (good luck, Yankees fans, they don't even like you up here, hah!) and enjoy a burger. One of my favorite bars anywhere, hands down. My 5 star is qualified - in the off season (and as long as they keep tater tots on the menu cause they have the best damn tater tots in North American, nay, the UNIVERSE) this is a hands down 5 star joint. During the high season, the flocks of yuppies from Chicago/Indiana and their trust fund condo monkey kids make this place a bit of an LL Bean convention from hell and it can be difficult to get a table or even a spot at the bar. On a rather gloomy day in Glen Arbor, this tavern was quite the bright spot. It early January, it was still decked out with holiday cheer, which made my heart full. The interior was everything you would want from a sports bar while still having a cozy feel. The staff was super kind and our food was great. The glass of wine was a bit more than what I thought it would be though, and for being the only people in there, the food took a little longer. However, it was definitely worth the wait and delicious. I ordered the supreme pizza and they were kind with any changes we made to our order. I also noticed they have a variety of local brands in their restaurant which is great when local businesses support each other. Can't wait to return this summer. read more

I came here for breakfast about a month ago while on a Fall colors trip. It was a cold, rainy, windy day and it was a great place to warm up with a cup of coffee and a classic breakfast. The service was good and the menu had plenty of delicious breakfast options. I had the western omelette which was delicious. Given that we were there at the very end of the tourist season, the place was still packed, which means it's visited by both the visitors and the locals. What I liked best about Art's was the decor. The walls and ceiling are completely covered with college pennants. Being the college sports fan that I am, I had a great time looking at all of the pennants from schools across the country. I even took snapshots of a few and sent them to friends from across the country. The only setback is that I felt the prices were on the high side for breakfast. This seems to be a common thing in the small towns in this area. I can't seem to figure out why. I will definitely be coming back to Art's in the future. read more

Been a family favorite of ours for years. It's our first stop whenever we get to town and then again nearly every day after that until we leave. The food is always really great - something for everyone of every age. Their special jalapeno bacon cheeseburger with a side of tots is yum. Their Wednesday special of chicken jalapeno soup is a must! Their beer selection has improved 10 fold since we've started going - which is fabulous. My favorites are the funky grilled cheese and the Art's cheeseburger (just plain old American cheese). Juicy, hot and good. and then the fight over what basket to get - tots, fries or onion rings. To go along with the good food are the staff. While usually busy, we've always had great experiences with the staff. Tim & Bonnie are amazing, supporting their community and their guests. Yummy, but messy, the Swiss mushroom burger is Mitch's favorite. My Cherry Cranberry Feta chicken salad had a yummy black cherry vinaigrette to top it off. My husband and I have been coming here for ten years and the food is always consistently good! Of course we usually order the whitefish burgers (served with leaf lettuce, tomatoes, homemade tartar sauce and pickles on a whole wheat bun) and yummy tater tots (hint: order the basket!). Their salads are always fresh, we love Art's signature salad, fresh greens, pecans and dried cherries. And if you visit during the winter, their soups are homemade and very tasty. Pretty disappointed. I've been going there for years. Server was stoned out of his mind and give us a super awkward greeting. Never got a refill on the drinks. Trout drip was Luke warm. Not enough crackers either. Burger was fine. Fries looked, smelled and tasted like the dirty fryer that everyone can see with the outdoor kitchen. Patio not open for breakfast?! We stayed anyway. Found out after we waiting for a table inside that they don't accept credit cards. This was easily the most disappointing for me as I never carry cash. Thank goodness I was dining with someone that did. Actual breakfast was not smooth sailing either. They have a very small kitchen for a large dining area, so our order took quite some time. Then our order was messed up--they brought us a short stack of regular pancakes instead of the apple French toast we ordered; they promptly brought the French toast. I also substituted Canadian bacon for sausage in The Hangover Cure and it came with sausage in it and Canadian bacon on the side (which we were charged for, but didn't bring up to the waitress because it seemed like too much trouble at that point). So here's what we did enjoy--the Bloody Mary was good, the food tasted great, it's a cute place and we enjoyed searching for The Ohio State University pennant amongst the hundreds on the ceiling, and our waitress was kind even after we pointed out the mistake when our food was delivered. If we returned to this area again, I would probably give this place another shot. Number one suggestion: accept credit cards--you're in a tourist area. Number two: have you're patio open for breakfast--it was an absolutely beautiful morning that only got hotter; it would have been nice to enjoy the morning with our breakfast. read more
