Had dinner here tonight. It's a large venue and being Friday night it was crowded and very noisy. We had reservations so we were seated immediately. We were pleasantly surprised when we chose to eat here. After shopping at the San Clemente Outlets we noticed the Asada Cantina + Kitchen and decided to give it a try. The ambiance is very casual but upscaled, the decor is beautiful and rich feeling. The outdoor patio area is huge, appearing larger than the inside of the restaurant. The service was spot on, very assertive and polite. The food tastes excellent as well. The menu is slightly limited but with a great selection of appetizers, entrees and drinks. We were pleased that we chose to try this restaurant out and will definitely return now that we have it on our radar. The food was horrible. I my friend and I ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos. First of all there was about 3 ounces of fish in the taco. Not enough for a meal. The flour tortilla was mushy and so we could not eat the taco because it fell apart. It came with rice and beans that were just cheap food. I left hungry. So disappointing. The salsa and chip BOTH came to our table pleasantly warm. The salsa was a deep red with an almost roasted enchilada sauce flavor. I also ordered the carnitas enchiladas with black beans and cilantro lime rice. All was excellent and I was able to have two lunches from the leftovers. The people up front did not take down names and forgot to seat people. It was quite disorganized. i had to flag the people in front to let them know that I was still waiting and they forgot about me. I had to flag people down to take my order but because it was busy it's understandable. Edible food overall. Vegetarian fajitas were edible but they used way too much lemon so it was quite sour. The free chips and salsa were good. The salsa was served warm. The moist towel at the end was a nice touch. It was quite loud but the Latin music in the background was nice. We arrived on a Monday afternoon and decided to eat lunch at Asada's while we waited to check in to our motel for the night. We both absolutely enjoyed the atmosphere of the cantina and bar. Very welcoming and cozy. Our server Fernando could not have been any better at making our experience really memorable. He had an amazing attitude and made our time there stress free. Very cozy.... friendly staff... Our first time in the place. Good food , huge plates, shareable. Price is affordable as well. No problem with the parking, it's a good location along the outlet. I am sad to announce that I am no longer willing to eat at this establishment. I have enjoyed this place once or twice a week for over a year but things have changed around here as far as the staff and food. The place is beautiful but that is not why I kept coming back. Two weeks ago was not great and it really opened my eyes. Last week I had guests in from out of state and I wanted to take them some place nice. It was a party of six and the chips and salsa were not up to par ( no warm chips or warm salsa so I asked if we could get a new batch the waiter acknowledged me and it never showed up. When the food arrived only 1 out of 6 received their food as ordered. Chicken rather than Short Rib Taco, I had asked that No guacamole or sour cream be sent on my plate and it arrived on my food etc. And it didn't stop there. Tonight after ordering the chips did not arrive until after my meal had arrived, ( everyone else got chips) I had asked the server and later the manager, (no hurry here). I had to ask for silverware. The Fajitas were good and Normally the rice is great but not tonight. The rice was dried out and the rice and beans were served at room temperature. When I was trying to get the server's attention to pay the manager noticed me and he offered me a free desert after me sharing my experience. I told him that I wasn't here for a free desert but rather a great meal and good dining experience and they had fallen short the past few times that I had been there, as he said, I am sorry. My experience was far worse than mentioned as I wasn't able to write every thing down in one review. I am also very disappointed that it cost me as much as it did to experience this kind of service and food. I guess I need to stay away for awhile. read more

This is large plate, contemporary Mexican food restaurant so expect a menu with lots of options. lots of creamy sauces and well spiced meats. Margaritas are definitely on the menu and tasty. Because of the area and the vibe expect to pay prices in the $20-$30 range for entrees. This is a good spot for a casual meet up, a date night, or a family gathering as they are able to accommodate large groups. Everything seemed very salty. My table mates and I thought it was the chips initially (we scraped the salt flakes off), but we all garnered that there was too much salt also in the warm salsa. All of the salt seemed to destroy any of the entrees and other offerings. In short, everything was overly salty, perhaps a marketing ploy to encourage buying more drinks. Upon our departure, I immediately drank most of my bottled water back at the car. Whew!!! Service was initially slow until our server, Luis, took hold and provided an excellent experience with professional and swift service, even providing a plate of warm (hot) towels upon our departure.
