The decent South American wine selection was made even better once the steak arrived. By far the best meal we've had in Tacoma. When we walked into the establishment, Will (bartender) greeted us immediately. The place was packed so we decided that we would sit at the bar and have dinner with Will. He is a huge asset to the restaurant, he was knowledgable about the wine list, gave us great suggestions in regard to the appetizer/dinner menu and extremely attentive to our needs. We enjoyed the chorizo corn dogs, the lamb meatballs, fantastic burger w/beechers cheese and a poblano dipping sauce for the sweet potato fries. Ate here on April 26th for dinner. Got a few of the specials. My guest was suprised that the lettuce had black dirt specs on it. I checked out. Likely "prewashed lettuce". Every piece had dirt on both the front and back. Very suprised it made it out of the kitchen. Plus the plate it came out on had a corner broken off. I'd rate the food as average. I've only been here a few times because this place is pretty pricey, but I absolutely LOVE the food here. My husband and I always order the ceviche with plantain chips. It's excellent. The first time I had steak here it was a chorizo and dungeness crab stuffed ribeye and it was TO DIE FOR. Unfortunately, their menu is always changing so it's not on it anymore. Still, the steaks I've had since then have all been very tasty and cooked to perfection. While I love the food here, some of the staff can definitely use some work. The waiters and waitresses have always been very nice (so no problem there) but we've experienced a snooty bartender a few times. So instead of sitting at the actual bar we always just get a table at the bar. read more

I'm a fan of Argentine food and ceviche. Surprisingly, the one thing I didn't care for was the ceviche. Interesting combination with the plantain chips but I really thought it was bland and not as fresh as I've had at other establishments. Another negative was the cramped seating (at least where we sat). That said, we showed up on a Saturday evening at 7 pm and were seated immediately. I liked the décor and the aroma tells you this is a place where meat comes to die. My steak was cooked to perfection and the portion size was about what I expected. I was also pleasantly surprised by the pricing...there were several reasonably priced options on the menu. Frankly, I thought both the quality and pricing was better than El Gaucho. Food is always excellent. I've tried everything from the steaks to the vegetarian relleno and I've always been wowed. The hardest part is trying to decide which delicious items to order...even the sides! Do I order the purple mashed potatoes or the polenta? And then the utterly unique desserts! Recently, I came way out of the way for a second go here as I was very upset and disgusted with the direction of food at El Toro - (Price/Quality, Quantity). I had the exact same dish, fish burrito, and I didn't find it nearly as palatable as the first experience. From the red sauce they put over it, to the filling, the wet burrito was SALTY. This meal was salty to another friend who didn't give a dang about salt. Not sure what changed over a year, but it was disappointing and I hope it was just a salty anomaly. With that said and to be reasonable, I haven't tried anything else but the burrito, the prices are generally low for the locale, and the food is very inspired compared to El Toro, or any other Tacoma Mexican Style Venue I've been to. But the "FREE" parking options are usually scarce, and the (probably unusually) salty food was inexcusable. Summing up all the factors, I would like to give them 4 stars.. But I can't endorse rushing to come here after the latest experience. read more

Absolutely a great place. Food was delicious, definitely one of the best restaurants in Tacoma. Diablo Martini is not to be missed as their signature drink, as long as you like spicy. We had Tender Tps, Queso Frito, and Pollo Espada. All were incredibly tasty. For dessert we tried the Crepas Dulces and both loved it. Place filled up quickly. Stopped by at 10:30pm on a Friday night on our way to Olympic NP. Nice ambience. TV was on and baseball playing, but noise was adequate for conversation. Seated @ bar cuz restaurant section was closed. Waitress and server were attentive. We were given amble time to look over the menu and order, and they kept filling up the water glass on a timely manner. They have great tasting arepes de carbe asado, great tasting grilled vegetables & poblano hummus (with an exciting kick to it), delish Gingerita, and asado meat. Service was quick. The food arrives warm & smells fresh. The best was the cherry cobbler with pistachios ice cream. Must have. Highly recommended. read more

This place was so delicious! Definitely had to make reservations on a busy Friday night but they seated us 15 min earlier than scheduled-which was great. The fresh bread and balsamic vinegar starter was amazing and so flavorful. Great wine and port selection. My husband got the lamb two ways and I got the tenderloin entree. Everything was Cooked to perfection. The purple mash potatoes were heavenly. I have absolutely no complaints about the food. We got the doughnuts and pistachio ice cream for dessert and they were divine. Our server was friendly and super attentive! We will definitely be back with friends and family. Enjoy your time here. We made reservations for this restaurant and were made to wait in the bar for over 40 minutes before we were finally seated. 50 minutes after we were seated we complained that we had been there too long and wanted to know what was taking so long. The manager at the time seems like he could care less about us. We wound up leaving after an hour and a half without having eaten it at all. Came here for dinner with my sister and our partners. The hanger steak was quite tasty. The menu is however limited. The service was good. The margarita I ordered was a touch weak, and could have used more lime juice. I'm told the bar is more of an attraction, and I will have to come back and try it sometime. The desert I ordered ended up being something akin to bananas foster eggrolls. Typically, I am a sucker for South American cuisine, especially if the meat is well seasoned and cooked to perfection, as you would expect from this Argentine restaurant. Truly, the meat was prepared well--nothing extraordinary. Aside from that, the sides and other vegatables generally seemed to be lacking. Overall, this made the meal just so-so. For the price ($30 and up entrees), I was not impressed. The restaurant, I'd say, is ideal for dates and small groups. It has a warm ambience and a nice staff. Having never had Argentinian food, I was impressed. My husband and I each had a different type of steak one with the purple mashed potatoes and one with the polenta. The polenta as stated in other reviews is definitely worth trying. Everything was very flavorful and needed no additional seasonings. We went on a weeknight in the winter, so it was fairly slow. Got Group? Apparently the website ordering system isn't completely accurate for larger groups. My group of six was able to get in on a Friday evening even though the website wouldn't let me reserve. I suggest calling in if you have a group seating questions. The hostesses got a seat ready for us within 15 minutes. Lomillo with Polenta - The medium rare hangar steak was cooked just right and the seasoning was balanced well with the charbroiled smokiness. The portions are plentiful and the polenta are buttery and smooth. Ceviche - a filling portion of ceviche made from fish, tomatoes, onions, and herbs. I thought the citrus could be stronger. The plantain chips were a crunchy and a good accompaniment. Finally, I really like the potato bread they serve here. Is it baked in house? Great place for a romantic date or to hit happy hour with your friends, or even by yourself if you live nearby. The service was quick and the servers were very attentive and kind to offer suggestions based off of what they like and what customers normally order. I had the lomo, he had the lamb shank. To drink was the beer and a glass of Spanish wine. Cocktails are average price for a place like this 7.50-11 dollars and they use craft items as well as your quality alcohol. I'm always a fan of a place that stays true to its name, Asado for its Argentinian background, a lot of grilling, steak, fish, and culturally diverse menu items. I definitely would try this place especially for their happy hour because who doesn't love a great deal? It was my friends' birthday last Saturday and we just didn't have the stamina to make it to Seattle. After a disastrous meal at Gateway Indian, we were desperate for a more upscale place for a drink. I remembered an acquaintance of mine had recommended Asado! I was happy to see they were still open at 11pm. This place looked like an Oasis to me in the veritable wasteland of Tacoma (Masa dance club across the street had swarms of tragic knuckleheads hanging out in front of it) and had a warm, inviting vibe. The food smelled great. And the diners were a bit hipper and more attractive than I've seen at other places. I immediately regretted we hadn't come here for dinner as well as drinks. The doorman was beyond nice and opened the door for us. My best friend is visually impaired, so when people go the extra mile I really notice. He personally walked us over to a seat at the bar and made sure my friend was comfortable. SO nice especially after being ignored at Gateway Indian. The cocktail menu was pretty unusual. We both ordered a cocktail that had rose champagne and lavender soda with muddled lemons. It wasn't as good (a little weak and not artfully presented) as I'd hoped, but frankly the attempt at something unusual and the great atmosphere was more important to me on this particular evening. I look forward to returning here for a meal. The atmosphere and service definitely have me intrigued. There were lots of amazing smells wafting around and the menu looked pretty great. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Tacoma, WA. Think of it as a steakhouse with an Argentinian twist. The steaks are really tender, juicy and flavorful. Make sure to get the chimichurri sauce to go with your steak. The polenta is a must for a side dish. It is packed full of flavor! The purple mashed potatoes are delicious as well. My husband and I love Asado! Their lentils are to die for! On our last visit, he had the rib eye and I had the seabass. Both were delicious! The rib eye was cooked perfectly, as was the seabass. We had dinner on a very cold evening in December 2022. We don't mind paying in the high range for a good restaurant experience, including good food and good atmosphere. The food was, as always, excellent. However, the room was so cold that we were unable to remove our winter coats. We observed that about a third of the other customers were wearing their heavy coats, and many were wearing stocking hats. I had to put my mittens on between courses. This is just not acceptable when one is paying in the high range for dinner. I don't care if it only happens occasionally. If a restaurant is going to serve food when it is cold outside, it needs to install heating that makes it warm inside. For this reason our dining experience was unpleasant -- a total waste of $200. We had to look forward to leaving so we could go home and get warm. On top of everything else the sparkling wine was not sparkling -- no bubbles. While I'm at it, while Asado's food is generally very good, it is not authentically Argentinian. I've spent some serious time in Argentina. People in Argentina only eat Mexican food in Mexican restaurants. The dead giveaway -- in Argentina, chorizo is a cut of meat (steak), not a Mexican sausage. Jalapeno, cilantro, ancho, guacamole are all more Mexican than authentically Argentinian or authentically Spanish. All that said, again, the food at Asado is generally excellent, but, again, the freezing cold atmosphere completely ruined our December diningexperience. read more

Asado was recommended by a family member while we were staying in Tacoma. The room has a warm vibe and the server was terrific, but the food was a letdown. The pandemic has hit restaurants hard so maybe it was just an off night or staffing issue. The calamari itself was better than average, but the two aiolis which came with it were bland - indistinct, really. The ceviche "appetizer" was easily large enough for four people - a large bowl of soggy ceviche served alongside a massive pile of plantain chips. Depending on your point of view, that might be a good thing or not. Unless I'm in a sports bar, when I order an appetizer I expect a small plate for one or perhaps two to share, unless otherwise noted on the menu - something to tickle my taste buds while I have a drink and wait for the the main course. I personally find it vulgar and borderline insulting when someone brings a massive plate of food for me as an "appetizer." The thing is, portion aside, the ceviche itself was insipid. I don't know how it's possible to make bland, lifeless, soggy ceviche but apparently it can be done. Plantain chips may look good and fit the latin theme, but frankly they don't really pair well with something as delicate in flavor as raw fish. My GF (who is Latina and loves plantains) and I were hungry, but we barely touched it. I would have gladly paid the same (or better yet, a little less) for a much smaller plate of something prepared with attention to method, quality and flavor. The two salads we ordered came swimming in vinaigrette, which had the effect of masking the flavor of the dishes' individual components and left thick oily pools behind on the plates after we finished. Any pantry chef worth his/her salt knows that too little dressing is far better than too much. The Malbec was good. read more

I love this place. I've been here twice and the food is great. A little pricey but so good! I had the scallops & polenta the first time I went & they were amazing. The second time they didn't have the scallops and I can't remember what I had but I know it was good. Just not as good as the scallops but I'm a seafood lover. I think the only other seafood they had was salmon & I don't love salmon so I didn't order it. Not a great place to go when it's really hot as their a/c doesn't really cool the restaurant. I first tasted Asado's steak at the Broadway market in the summer. Asado's hadn't open yet and they were giving out bits of flank steak in chimichurri sauce. It was so well seasoned and the person also gave us the recipe, which we tried at home. Thus, I was excited to actually go to Asado's when it opened. It hasn't disappointed me. Disclaimer: If the food is good enough, I can overlook mediocre service. The service here is rarely great. Heck, it's really good. But the food is good. The empanada is flavorful, and the crust is nice. Hearty, but delicate at the same time. Even the salad was flavorful. My favorite dish was the steak skewers with polenta. As others have pointed out the polenta is tear-jerkingly good. This lunch dish is a great portion. The steaks in general are flavorful. I've also had the burger which is good, but about a third of the way through, I get overwhelmed. The flavors are very strong. Good, but strong. read more
