I guess I should have stuck with the Chinese food. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp. It was so bland and colorless that I'm pretty sure it should have just been called "noodles." The portion was huge, I made three meals out of it (after making my own pad Thai sauce) but there were only 2 shrimp in the entire portion. That's ridiculous. My husband's kung pao chicken was great. Scenario 2: After completing said paper (thanks to some shifty margins and size 12.5 font) You and your friends celebrate in traditional fashion, i.e. (210x2) + video games (I prefer halo but super smash has its appeal). Before you know it a yearning sets in; not just a desire but a deep down need for food. At this point anything you eat will taste like god himself cooked it up in with a heaping side of redemption. Unfortunately your dexterity at this point is so-so. Not to worry, the ever reliable Asia Wok is on speed dial. Another 30 minutes later, and you've never tasted anything so good, or so much of it either. I'm new to Waltham, and after reading the reviews on Yelp about the local Chinese restaurants I came to the same conclusion regarding every Chinese take-out joint in the U.S. - either you love the place or you hate it. Despite a few negative reviews, Asia Wok had a fair number of good reviews I figured I'd give it a shot. I had sesame chicken, bbq boneless ribs, and rice. Man was there a LOT of rice! The food wasn't bad - very sweet. The bbq boneless ribs were almost candy, and the chicken wasn't spicy (and not many sesame seeds) but also very sweet. And a LOT of rice! Basically it was pretty much your average blecht! Chinese take-out. I've had worse. So why just one star? Let me put this right out on the table - I work part time in food services. I'm ServeSafe and Quality Food Operator certified. I handle the food safety training at work. The Board of Health should shut this place down. The lady working the counter was arguing with another customer - the customer wanted a certain combination and the lady either wasn't understanding or was just refusing to make some kind of special allowances for the customer. Ok, whatever. They argued for TEN minutes while I waited to place my order. Again, whatever. The cook was eating his dinner in the back. No gloves. The lady behind the counter handed the other customer's order back to the cook, who BARE HANDED (no gloves & didn't wash his hands first) scooped the first customer's food out of the to-go container and into a new container. With his hands. Then (and mind you, this is July so it's got to be pretty darn hot in the kitchen, meaning he is sweating) he grabs a wax paper bag and sticks his hand in, about half way up his forearm, before picking up some chicken wings BARE HANDED (again, no gloves and STILL hasn't washed his hands) and puts them in the bag. If that cook had been working for me he would have been fired on the spot. Maybe I see things others don't because I'm trained and paid to see them, but this was pretty darn blatant. I've ordered from here many times, and all times are for delivery. Great place for those drunk and/or lazy nights. The orders usually takes about an hour to hour and a half, a bit longer than other places in the area. I like the beef teriyaki here and their variety of fried rice. My usual order consists of boneless ribs, beef teriyaki, beef friend rice, calamari, crab rangoons, and roast pork noodles. This might be why deliveries are always so long :) I liked the food here and the price and portions are pretty standard. Never had a problem with order being wrong of bad service. The worst that has ever happened to me was a delivery took a while on a rainy Saturday night. If you want quick and easy American-style Chinese delivered quickly, this is your best bet in the Waltham area. Is it a great place for take-out? No. Is it a great place to have your butt kissed by a friendly staff? No. Will the food make you sick? No. Not like some of the other local places have. This is the first time that I placed an order from Asia Wok in Waltham, MA and ordered the Lo Mein, Egg Foo Young and Crab Rangoon and when I opened the container I just stared at the contents. The food was obviously old and reheated, the Lo Mein was burnt on the bottom and the gravy was congealed, yuck. I threw the entire container in the trash. I called the restaurant to report and told from the female who answered the phone in regard to the burnt Lo Mein etc that the order indicated that it was ordered "well done." Huh? It was clearly not something to be ordered that way. I indicated that this was my initial order and that I would not order food again and that the entire container went in the trash. It's your typical American Chinese food, but definitely the best in Waltham. I have ordered their general gao's chicken, sesame chicken, mapo tofu, Kung pao chicken, Singapore noodles, beef chowfun, crab ragoon, and a variety of fried rice - they all met my expectations. I have extensive experience getting delivery from here because my friends and I (and pretty much half of the school) turn to Asia Wok when we are sick of school food, too busy to cook, hungover, pulling an all-nighter for exams, celebrating the end of exams, need attractions for school events, etc. I have so many fond memories of bonding with my friends/roommates while enjoying the food. They are open late hours, ready to be at your service even on snowy and hurricane days - seriously, I remember (or I have heard) they were the only place still doing delivery the day Hurricane Sandy struck and when everything was on lockdown during Boston Marathon 2013. Turns out Asia Wok can transcend the super-greasy food stereotype if you know what to order - garlic or kung pao chicken aren't just piles of fried grease - although I'm sure that if they published nutrition facts they'd be unimpressive. But on to some pro tips for getting the best lunch combo bang for your dollar: - Get the lo mein instead of rice - no extra charge and it's a more interesting side than a pile of white rice. - The appetizer orders you can get with your meal vary wildly in size -- you can get a single egg roll or spring roll, sure - but order wisely and you can get a bunch of chicken fingers or a big pile of scallion pancakes instead. read more

You can not go wrong when an Asian man (see Mike F's review) and an Asian woman (me) tell you that this is some good (americanized - just the way I like it) Chinese take out. I'm not sure why it took me 2 yrs to find out about this place as well, but this is my take-out place of choice now - it's close, cheap, and has everything that I want! I'm a fan of their "lunch" combos - at just under $7 (served 7 days a week - all day, except prices go up $1.50 after 3pm), you can pick your appetizer, carb (white or fried rice or lo mein), and one of their specials (basically, a meat-meat, or meat-veggie, or veg-veg combos). My recs are the beef teriyaki (comes with 2 sticks of long thin slices), beef with green & red peppers, crab rangoons and the veggie lo mein. The lo mein has plenty of veggies considering it's a free side with the combo, appropriately seasoned so that it's not too salty nor overly soy-saucy, and has just enough grease to tell you when you've had enough. Their crab rangoons are really just pockets of fried cream cheese with some onion/garlic and perhaps fake crab meat, but it's delicious still - especially with their sweet plum dipping sauce. Beef is well-marinated/seasoned and just tender enough without tasting like fake meat. (A different "Asia"-named place has really gross, artificially over-tenderized beef... so they shall remain nameless.) Their egg foo young was just ok - not too great. Probably won't get that one too often. It was too greasy, and flavorless. And they're fast - never had to wait more than 10 mins for my pick-up orders. read more

Oh Asia Wok. Ever since I saved their number on my phone, it's been the one place I call whenever I get lonely, sad, bored, happy, excited, angry, or anything else, really. Out of all my college expenses, Asia wok probably ranks third, after tuition and my random shopping sprees. Once a week, I have this random craving for greasy food. This craving is usually fulfilled by the dinner specials of Asia wok (usually General Gau's with Pork fried rice and Boneless Spareribs) and I wonder off to sleep, full and all greased up. The food is really up to the level of almost any American Chinese restaurant. I've had a lot of Chinese food around the area and in many different states, and honestly, Asia Wok has good food for reasonable prices. Not too greasy, and not too salty. The thing that definitely won me over though, was the fact that they don't give me 40 pounds of broccoli with my 8 pieces of Sesame Chicken. I order chicken, and I get chicken. What more can a guy ask for? There is a wide variety of different entrees you can get, and although I generally order the same thing, I have never been dissatisfied with the food from Asia Wok. I've never been inside the restaurant, so I can't comment on the dine-in's. The delivery is rather slow, but that's probably because they wait until they have 20 orders to take at one time (35~40 minutes). Food quality, service, price, and availability all satisfy me. If you live in Waltham and plan on living in Waltham for more than a year, then get to know Asia Wok. I truly highly recommend it. read more

I've been an (almost) weekly patron of Asia Wok since 2007, and I can say, I've never had a bad meal from them. I've tried the other joints in the area, 3 Fortunes, Lily's Kitchen, Tiki In, Dragon Chef, but Asia Wok still remains the most solid and consistent of them all. It's not really greasy (well, 8 out of 10 times its not bad), it's fast, and it tastes good. What more can you ask for from your local cookie cutter Chinese-American restaurant? OK, I lied a little bit back there. I had something I didn't like once: the cheese roll. I know, I know, you're probably thinking to yourself: "Cheese roll? You got something with CHEESE from a Chineses place?" Yes, in my moment of weakness, I ate a cheese roll, and regretted it. It's basically bland, melted I-Don't-Even-Know-What-Kind-Of-Cheese stuffed into a spring roll wrapper and fried. Ew. But I digress. Some things to try: The Kung-pao chicken. Scallion Pancakes. General Gau's/Tso's chicken. Crispy beef. PROTIP: if ordering a combo plate, ask for veggie fried rice. It's like a buck extra but they make it fresh for you. No 5-hour old pork fried rice for you! This is coming from a person who always recommended this establishment when asked about Chinese food in Waltham. After tonight I will longer do that. Long story short, after an order was placed an hour 1/2 went by without receiving our food. I called back to ask about delivery time and I was told to call the delivery driver, which was followed by a hang up. Being stuck in limbo I called back to cancel my order. That was lead by me receiving a call from (617) 992-5201 two hours later! I was bombarded with harassment remarks by an older gentlemen for me canceling my order and asking for a refund. This is a Chinese take out place on Main Street across from the town green area. It's a pretty typical Chinese-American take out place, with a few booths if you wanted to eat inside. My boyfriend and I get takeout from here every few weeks and while it's nothing spectacular, I've never had anything bad and the prices are good. Trying local Chinese restaurants, so we got take out here. We ordered typical Chinese American food like chicken fingers, crab Rangoon, lobster sauce and mu shu pork. First, the chicken finger was very greasy, seem like they refried it and the batter wasn't too hard. All other dishes was bland not much flavor to them. Customer service needs improvement, walked in to pick up order and the person behind the counter didn't even acknowledge me standing right in front of him, until I said excuse me, then he respond to me. By far the lowest quality food I have ever tried. The fried rice tasted like it was old and burnt. The grains of rice actually looked like powder like they were overcooked or re-cooked too many times. The veggies in the rice such as carrots and onions were literally disintegrated. The general goa's chicken also tasted off. I ordered two dinner specials which came out to be around $25 so I wouldn't say its cheap. I actually could not finish it and threw it out after taking a couple bites. I know that a lot of Chinese food is re-used but the food here was not edible. Yet, when I had no tracking info and had been waiting over an hour, Asia Wok kept telling me to "just wait." They couldn't answer basic questions like "when was my order picked up?" I go to this little Chinese restaurant almost four times every week. Food there is not 100% purely Chinese but is ok for most of it. I eat there only because Asia Work is the most convenient place where I can have Asian food. Taste is alright, while the price is more than "alright". There is another Chinese restaurant, Mulan, in the Main Street of Waltham. I prefer it to Asia Work. read more
