We ordered pickup from here on a Friday night. They had the food ready pretty fast and the food was still hot when we got back to the house. The cashier was very short with us and we felt like she was trying to shoo us away. The food was mediocre at best. Spring rolls were nothing special. Crab wontons needed something more... they were kind of bland but they were good. My wife and I visited here for the first time last night to get some take-out. Since I never left the hostess stand I can't comment too closely on the restaurant itself but it looks a bit nicer than most of the Chinese places around here and it seemed clean and well put together. The staff spoke to were friendly and I was in and out quickly with our order. One thing that did surprise me, when I placed the other they said it would be ready in 10 minutes. Eek, we live on the other side of 29! Most Chinese restaurants take at least 15-20 when you order dumplings so the quick turn-around was kind of surprising. We stuck to ordering our usual items to get an idea of how the food is here. We ordered fried meat dumplings, scallion pancakes, vegetable spring rolls, vegetable lo mein with fried bean curd/tofu and kung pao chicken. Oh, and Chinese donuts! The fried dumplings were good, the wrapper was a nice thickness and they were stuffed full of meat. (One thing that so many Chinese restaurants do that drives me a little nuts is that they put the plastic cup of sauce in with the dumplings, so by the time you get home the little container is melted and the sauce all leaks out so the dumplings are steaming in it. Oh well.) My wife really liked the flavor of the scallion pancakes but she found the consistency a bit different than she was used to. Normally they are a bit crispier at other places but these were softer. Still, she liked them and will get them again. The spring rolls were also nice, the wrapper was nice and crispy, as were the vegetables inside but they were a little on the greasy side. For the entrees my wife's vegetable lo mein was really greasy/oily, as was the fried tofu. My kung pao chicken was ok, I ordered it without the bell peppers or celery. The sauce was pretty thin and it seemed kind of oily as well. Next time we'll try different entrees but we definitely liked the appetizers and the Chinese donuts were awesome. I use to order Asian Garden years ago and the last 2 times I ordered it, it was very disappointing. The food doesn't taste fresh, AT ALL. It tastes like a couple day old meat, noodles, rice, etc. that they just warmed up in a microwave. It's worth it to look around for another spot if you really enjoy Chinese food. Consistently delicious. My girlfriend and I come in here at least 3 times a month and are always pleased. She usually gets the spicy tuna rolls, shrimp toast, and Singapore noodles and always loves them. I've tried everything from the orange chicken to the drunken noodles to the crispy beef and it's all been delicious. The servers are very attentive and friendly and if you need something they're always happy to help. My girlfriend doesn't eat pork and we've never had problems with them accommodating that. Asian Garden is one of those places that we end up eating at a lot, but more for the convenience rather than the actual food. Food We've been going here for a few years now and we pretty much always order the same thing: Egg drop soup, crab cheese wontons, california rolls, and another random sushi roll. It's not the best sushi I've ever had, but it is very good and I think one of the few sushi places in the Bristow/Gainesville area. For some reason a lot of Chinese places screw up egg drop soup somehow, but Asian Garden's egg drop is pretty consistent and rarely disappoints. The crab cheese wontons are okay, but not as good as Pei Wei's. I'm not sure if we just keep ordering the wrong stuff, but whenever we've ordered other Chinese dishes off the menu (fried rice, lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, general tso's chicken, etc.), we're always a bit disappointed. I think Young Chow Cafe in Manassas has much better tasting food and I prefer to go to Pei Wei if time permits. That's not to say the food here is bad, it's just not as good as what I've had at other places. Service The waiters are always very friendly and attentive; some of them have been there since we started eating there years ago. Price We end up spending about $25 - $30 with tax +tip for two people, but have spent less than $20 before. Final Thoughts Asian Garden isn't someplace that's worth driving a long distance to, but if you live as close as I do (less than two miles), it's a decent place to check out for a quick/inexpensive place to eat. Don't expect to be blown away by any of the food, though. Also, the decor is really nice and has a good vibe. I think it was renovated within the last couple years or so. I'm surprised they don't offer delivery; that would make this place even more convenient than they already are! Phenomenal Mongolian beef! Large portion, onions cooked down just right, beef is large and tender, I'm a fan! Girlfriend gave me spicy tuna roll sushi and it was so good I asked for another and I don't like sushi. We will be back! Updated: 4/25/2013. Girlfriend has gotten the mongolian beef for me as take out twice in the last 2 weeks. Both times there's hardly any beef! Almost all onion. She called and talked to a manager to let them know the take out is much less beef and he said "that's just how it looks" and "Next time you come, you open it and show me". We normally like to dine in at this place rather than take out (we live 20 minutes away). Great place to stop at on the way home from work. The hostess, waiter, and runners are very attentive and quick. The food is good overall although we've noticed the white rice is much drier when ordered for takeout versus dining in. read more

I've underestimated how good this place is. I have gotten take out from Asian Garden for years. But, I have never taken time to sit down and enjoy my meal inside. The service is great and the presentation is wonderful. Our table ordered a whole Peking Duck, it was cooked perfectly, they even assembled the crepes with the duck inside at our table side. I was extremely disappointed with the food delivered to me. The ribs were dripping in some sort of sticky sauce. The shrimp and scallops were tasteless. I wanted medium spicy. It was totally bland. It's not the best sushi place but not bad at all! Their neta (aka fish) is thick cut. I like the rice to be more sour but I can't complain for the price. Server people are always nice and sometimes they give me hard rock ice cream for desert. I also like when they serve hot sake in the hot kettle to keep the sake bottle warm. Turns out too be inconsistent in quality. We returned for lunch looking forward to their previously delicious pork lo mein. We had it on Christmas Day and the pork was perfectly fresh with a delightful five spice flavor. Today, the pork had no taste but salt and visibly looked old (it was darkened). The whole dish was inferior to the last time. Less pork meat, old pork meat, many old mushrooms in big pieces, funky pieces of cabbage. The noodles were mushy and the taste of the seasoning tasted off like old burnt oil. We complained and the waiter said he would speak to the chef. He then returned with another plate of the exact same thing!! We did not request a remake. We refused it and paid for our shrimp dish and soups and left. What was frustrating was that we couldn't communicate with the staff effectively about the problem. It was if they didn't understand English although I think they do?!! They insisted that their was nothing wrong with the pork. I have been eating Chinese all my life and I know what it was supposed to be like....The whole thing was ridiculous because they even served us great pork before, which we kept trying to point out. The excuse they came up with was that it is the holidays and they are busy and short staffed. They weren't that busy when we were there today. Plus on Christmas ever thing went great. The host sat us, then a waiter came and he was very rude he was like in a rush and there were not many customers in the restaurant he threw the menu at us threw napkins at us the food was very blah. My fried rice was just OK it was nothing spectacular and my boyfriend ordered some meat I think it was deep-fried but it was just some boiled beef coated in batter and then deep-fried but you could tell this was not fresh and they put some sauce on it and that's it.
