While I am not a Chinese food maven, I do know my way around an authentic Chinese food menu from some of the more popular regions, I.e, Cantonese, Mandarin, Szechwan ,Hainan, Dongbei , Fujian, and Taiwanese etc. But ya know, sometimes good 'ol American style Chinese food like the typical lunch or dinner special offered at most neighborhood places just hits the right way. When I'm in that mood, I'm always drawn to Asian Wok. It's small, six booths and a couple tables, they've moved from full service to kind of a hybrid style where you pretty much order at the counter and your food is brought to you in take out containers except the soup . Sometimes, there is more help (family members) around take your order and bring your food, but pretty much self service. I mean it works just fine for me, plus if I'm going to just pick up and take out it's a moot point. Today we dined in since we wanted soup and thst is not usually included in a take out lunch special. Their egg drop soup is pretty good. My dining partner ordered beef and broccoli with lomein (you get two sides) and an egg roll(the skinny kind not the large traditional East coast kind, heavy on the cabbage). I ordered sweet and sour pork, (upcharge since not on the lunch special with fried rice and the ever popular crab Rangoon , which INMHO is as Chinese as a pepperoni pizza. I mean Rangoon is a city in Burma (well Myanmar ). lol. Anyway, the kids, (well young adults) were back home for the summer and took my order. Service was fast. My dining partner said her beef was tender, lomein was not cooked into oblivion and her broccoli was tasty. My pork was breaded just right, I forgot to ask for my sweet and sour sauce on the side and my fried rice was typical with little chunks of carrots and shrunken peas. But tasty. In all honestly this place needs to change its way of cooking. It might have been good two years ago but we had it last night and it was so bad we didn't even finish the dinner. I had to toss it away. The mangolian beef was good but it was so heavy with oil that I barely had one spoon. The noodles which was $3.50 extra instead of the white rice was dull and very mushy. I ordered shrimp with veggies and that comes with white rice. The shrimp had no flavor at all. The rice was so dry it felt like it was old rice rather than just steamed. The pork egg rolls are mentioned in the reviews so much I had to give it a try. I ended up giving it to my dog after one bite and my dog didn't even eat it. There was more cabbage than pork and again dull. Please Asian wok change your chef and do better because I had high hopes but throwing away dinner especially when I'm 6 months pregnant wasn't the best for my family. read more

Some family were in town, so we decided to return to Asian Wok for dinner. My wife and I have been on one other occasion. The food is absolutely delicious, well cooked and such a variety menu to pick from. The owner's son, who is high school student is very well mannered and professional. While the Asian Wok menu has a lot of items, my review is based on the consistency of two items - which have been my go to. First, the Egg Drop Soup I really like because it really is an egg-only soup. No corn, no carrots etc. If you're looking for a pure egg drop soup - this is it! The second dish that I really like is the Chicken and String Beans. The string beans have a nice crisp to them, there is plenty of chicken, and the sauce is really good. The portion size is also really good. The staff is very friendly, often after ordering it doesn't take too long for the food to be ready. This is a consistently good neighborhood place! read more

Asian Wok is a casual-not fancy restaurant that offers American/Chinese dishes and some Thai Dishes. You order and pay at the counter. Inside are mostly booths. Most meals come out in take out containers. They also start you off with complimentary fried crispy noodles with duck sauce. I am so happy to announce that this is the first and only American/Chinese restaurant that I've found in Las Vegas that makes East Coast Style Szechuan Chicken. It's full of all the flavors here and isn't that sweet flat Nevada style that every other similar place serves. Here the Szechuan Chicken is also packed with very nice vegetables (just like East Coast) snow peas, broccoli, zucchini, carrots, onions, bell peppers, water chestnuts, and bamboo shoots. The chicken was moist and tender. This was also a generous portion and the price was reasonable. My husband enjoyed the black pepper beef and it was made with tender beef too. The woman who was the cashier and food runner checked on us often. This isn't a fancy place and I don't feel the need to deduct a star for atmosphere since the food was that very rare very good. I happen to be in this neck of the woods and I read some good reviews. So I put the address in my GPS. This place I must say is a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. The parking was plentiful. I was greeted quickly. I ordered 2 Egg vegetable egg rolls. Along came sweet and sour dipping sauce and crunchy straw chips. I was so surprised, the quality and taste was exceptionally good. When I return to this area I'll stop in and order a meal. The restaurant is very small, cozy, lots of booths and tables. They are open Christmas day! I saw lots of orders being prepared for take out. Then they tell me that my NY chow mein accidentally was made as chop suey instead. When the gentleman and the front asked if I would like to replace it, I said yes. I noticed on the receipt there's a " Support local fee" it's just .99c ; and then we ordered pork fried rice instead of steamed rice and paid the extra $ for that then the person from the restaurant calls me; it's another $2 for Pork fried rice . We have used this place for catering birthday parties and also weekly dinners. I swear they have the best fried wontons on earth. This is my niece and my nephew's favorite go to Chinese restaurant. Glad we got to join them for dinner. Family owned business and a good size restaurant for dining. The servers were great very attentive to us and the customers that were also dining in. There is a good selection on the menu from a mix of Chinese and Thai specialty dishes. They also have lunch specials and dinner combos. I liked that we could choose from the dinner combos that are served with steamed or fried rice, egg drop soup or hot & sour soup, 1 vegetable egg roll and 1 crab rangoon, and your choice of dish. The dinner combos are the best! I've eaten from this restaurant maybe half a dozen times before in the last 1.5 years, and the quality of their food has always stayed consistently good. They serve New York style Chinese food here, and that is sometimes a nice change of pace from the more traditional Chinese food in Chinatown. There aren't many good options for Asian food in the NW part of town, so it's convenient for anyone who lives here too. Portions are always LARGE or priced accordingly for the smaller portions. Dishes always have a hearty amount of sauce, but the sauces tend to be thinner, so you can easily adjust the amount of sauce on your food. Crispy wonton strips are always served for free with any dine-in meal. There are lots of menu options, so there is something for everyone here. This time, I ordered a large wonton soup and my partner ordered sesame chicken with lo mein noodle upgrade. The wontons were larger than any others I've had at other Chinese restaurants. The soup was flavorful, and there was a good ratio between wontons/soup/vegetables. The sesame chicken was flavorful with lots of sesame seeds and soft breading; there was no separation of breading in any of the chicken. Again, HUGE portion. The lo mein noodles were good enough to eat by themselves. They've switched over to a counter-serve style restaurant and reduced their seating capacity, likely to accommodate the rising costs of keeping a restaurant open nowadays. I'm assuming this is 1 way they keep their prices the same, so that's appreciated for anyone who is trying to budget financially. Service has always been friendly and timely here; I've never had to wait long to speak to someone or be served. Ambiance is a quiet space with more subtle Chinese decorations sprawled throughout. There's an even amount of lighting throughout the restaurant, but none of it is too brightly lit (noted for potentially neurodivergent customers). Ordered takeout through their third party tonight. There was a hiccup with their order website the first go round but the second time it was successful. Our food was supposed to arrive between 7:48pm and 8:05pm but arrived at 8:17pm. The delivery guy was nice and the order was hot in temperature. We ordered the potstickers which were great but the dipping sauce was a little sweet for our taste. I had the Thai spicy basil with ground chicken and it was really good. My spouse got the spicy chicken in garlic sauce but there was very little chicken in this dish, it was all peppers, onions, and water chestnuts....very disappointing! I've been going to Asian wok for a lot of years. They are the closest thing to real NY Chinese food I've had in Vegas. Food is always excellent and the people that work there are very nice. The only negative is they don't have wait service anymore. You can order your food and eat there. But you won't be served. I get my food to go anyway, so no biggie for me.
