I love Asiento for several reasons: 1. It's a local bar with a fancy touch- not enough to alienate the neighbors but enough to draw folks in from far away. 2. They have a carefully-selected menu of beer and great cocktails designed in-house. 3. Bonnie is the sweetest sexiest bartender around. 4. They'll have private parties with DJ's or bands or whatever and provide excellent planning and customer service. 5. Snacks and food are amazing. Taco Tuesdays! I've only been here during Taco Tuesdays, as my husband spins a few times a month here. Tacos are $2 and excellent (apparently the shrimp tacos are delish, but I'm allergic to shrimp so can't vouch for that myself). The beers are reasonably priced, and they have a decent selection on tap (my fav is the Scrimshaw). For food, I like the guac, the queso fundido, and the bocadillos. If you like house tunes you should definitely come check out the music, too. What's cool about this place is the crowd changes over the course of the night, and it might look like its dead at 6:30 but then a whole new group of people show up. You get a few folks in for happy hour, a few folks in later around 7-8, and then a later night crowd, as well. I love how chill the atmosphere is, and it feels like a neighborhood joint the way people gather. Bonnie usually tends bar Tuesday night and she is awesome - really easy to talk to and makes great drinks. Going out on a Tuesday night can be a hard sell for me, but this is a nice, relaxing atmosphere to listen to tunes, drink some beers, and eat some tacos. read more

I love this bar!!! The atmosphere is cool and laid back without being too hipstery or pretentious. There is plenty of seating for groups of friends to get together and catch up, which is exactly the reason I came here a few nights ago. I was seated in the back corner with some lady friends, and although there was music being played, it wasn't too loud that we would have to yell over it. They also have a ton of board games which led to a very interesting, and in-depth conversation about the merits of Yahtzee! which I have never played. I had one of their specialty cocktails - the Basil Lemonade, made with Stoli Lemon Vodka, lemon juice, muddle basil served over ice in a tall glass. So incredibly tasty, and dangerous because it doesn't taste at all like it has any alcohol. It was very refreshing. It was also only $8.50. The bartender was very friendly, as were most of the staff. I didn't like the place at all, I felt like is a scam on many levels. I didn't like the fact that they have not a real glace of wine, instead I had to drink my wine in a Whiskey glass, which obviously killing the folklore of just drinking wine, I felt like the food is mostly frozen, I order the Gambas which was good, but it says 4 pieces on the menu and only 2 came (scam) and about the sausages, there are mostly the cheap one that you can buy at the liquor store. No fun at all especially when it is costly, dont get me wrong i dont mind paying for the food, I just want something not frozen and the quality you show on your menu I won't recommended it and I won't go back. read more

Credits to Natasha H. for a sweet find in the Mission! We came by for a drink after dinner at Flour + water and we quickly agreed that this place is awesome. The bartender was very friendly and made us some darn tasty drinks while we sat in the mad spacious main area. The atmosphere is hipster, but not overly so. Cool artwork adorned the walls around us and the crowd was super chill, no need to crank up the decibels to talk to your friends here unlike so many other bars. I'll def be back again! read more

I came in here to experience Nuit Blance SF host by a guy named Ezra. 1. Asiento's menu isn't the worst nor the best. It's medium priced & the portions are tiny. For example, the burgers are the size of White Castle ones. The staff are very attentive & kind but it's mostly just regulars who live nearby who come here. 2. Nuit Blanche SF by Ezra was the sloppiest & most disappointing "networking event" anyone could ever go to: DON'T GO! The eventbrite ad promised free food & drinks, professionals in fashion, media, tech, biz & law, & a fab night. FACT: NONE OF THAT HAPPENED! No one knew of it, no seats, no bubblers nor grub & Ezra lacked the balls to tell my pal & I that he wasn't gonna foot the bill despite the eventbrite ad & even telling Asiento's staff! Conclusion: It felt like Ezra of NuitBlanche was just aiding the eatery by making a crappy false ad to get some folks in & to gain attention for himself. Updated review. I liked this place quite a bit at first, and it still has a lot going for it -- great space, not too crowded (for now), decent prices, and friendly bartenders. However, they told me they accepted credit cards but then tried to impose a $20 minimum, which 'aint allowed. The minimum purchase amount must not exceed $10 and does not apply to transactions made with a debit card." I didn't have cash and was only purchasing two drinks (one being non-alcoholic), which came to under $20. Rather than owning up to it, the owner got very testy and argumentative. Do I have to give any stars here? My bf and I were going there for their $45/per person deal for new years eve. Got there and it was empty, but we still decided to wait a bit. Three bartenders/waitresses ignored us the entire time we were there. They were doing shots and eating food while we were wondering when we were ever getting any service. Soo like any person who has a brain, we left. We planned on spending New years there and spending lots of cash that night. lol Anyway, HORRIBLE customer service. I'm putting money down that this place is going out of business soon. SUCH A GREAT FIND. I really truly love this place. I could go here every day. The drinks rocked. I got the "Cucumber Rosemary" drink and "The Good Idea" drink. Both were delicious, however I did like the Cucumber Rosemary drink a little bit better. I also tried the Basil Lemonade which was also deeeelicious. We got here on a Sunday night around 7pm and it was pretty chill, not too many people here but the bartender was super friendly and talkative, making us feel welcome. We also ordered chips and guac which was a great call. My two friends and I played Jenga for awhile, which someone so kindly wrote dares on each jenga block - ranging from "kiss the person to your right" to "make your best O face of the person to your left" and "stand on your chair and thank everyone for coming tonight" etc. etc. By 8:30 ish the bar was wayy more packed and it seems like a well rounded bar in the sense that it can go from really chill vibe to super packed and dance-y in a short amount of time. Randomly came to this bar last night with a group of friends. Good venue overall and enjoyed the ambience of the place. Bartenders were great, poured drinks exactly, better to be exact than shorted. However I didn't appreciate the rudeness I received from Logan while ordering our first round. Look, I get it there's a lot of people at the bar and you just want to make my drink and move on to the next one. But while it maybe more convenient for YOU to make a Manhattan and Old Fashioned at the same time, my friend specifically asked you about the Yelp check in cocktail choices last, and after we all had ordered our drinks. To make matters worse we still got charged full price. So happy to have Asiento in the neighborhood. I've been there several times. The bartenders and owner (Debbie) are super friendly and have a lot of love for their bar. It shows. The food and drinks are a little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. In particular, the tinga tostados and guacamole are fantastic. On sundays they are doing a wonderful brunch till 4pm (!). $7 for one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. They also have community oriented board game nights and art creation days. I was there last week for drinks with friends, my friend ordered a margarita and she got a well made with mint ( have you seen a mojito without it ?) and the bartender took her time to prepared it and so on. The mojito was very good which made me to order the same .... two seconds after she gave me my order, a plain cup with ice and a weird liquid inside, I asked her what it was and she said "mojito" .... but where is the mint ? Where is the shaking thing ? Where is the taste ? The bartender took my glass with no manners, got two leaves of mint threw inside my glass and with less manners then before slammed the glass in front of me. Result: no tips for a bad service ... no tips ? Surprise surprise, When I went to check my bank statement I noticed they changed my bill adding 25% tip without my consent ... as I understand this is fraud isn't it ? read more

Once a place with exotic, bright flavored-tapas is now a place of you-can-make-this-yourself. I still enjoyed the fun cocktails, music and abundance amount of boardgames to choose from. Stopped in after Carnaval and I was probably 3 hours of drinking behind everyone else already on the dance floor, which was unfortunate because they were playing a great song I wanted to dance to, but just wasn't "there" yet. It's the 2nd time I'd been there, and the crowd really varies. The drinks are pricey but decent enough. Not to sound douchey, but this place had a good vibe. I don't really like the word "vibe," but that's really the only way to describe it. A spacious bar for the city, there was ample room to move about, and the space was very clean, modern and polished. Parking in this neighborhood was also not a complete nightmare, which I appreciated. The evening I went, there was some crazy closet cleanout event going on so there were numerous women walking around with extravagant, feathery hats. Really, there were. I was supposed to spend New Years at a roller disco at Cellspace but the po shut it down. =( Our group wandered into this place and ended up having an awesome time. The place was pretty crowded but bartenders were all very attentive and getting drinks was a piece of cake. Every drink was delicious especially the basil lemonade. Around midnight, they even passed out party favors and free champagne (which they were very generous with)! If you run out of cash, they do take cards but there's a $20 minimum. That shouldn't be an issue because the drinks here are fantastic and you will consume many. I'll definitely return for more drinks and to try their tapas plates as well! read more

I live a few blocks away, and am happy to call this my neighborhood bar. Upscale neighborhood bar that has a nice casual bar and a decent small food menu. The prices for the food are 1-3 dollar more than what they should be but are in keeping with SF and hipster Mission food prices. The virgin cocktails were good and the food came out quick. Although they are called tapas and even have the same names the dishes here are more South American than Spanish. Everything had more spice and zing in it than you would find in Spain. The gambas were good although there were only 4, The veggie bocodillas were good as was the shrimp ceviche both of which had a spicy remoulade sauce. The spring rolls were tiny and too sweet for my taste. 4 tapas and two drinks came to 38 dollar so it's a reasonable place to get a light meal and drinks. The space is nice with sound baffling panel, have only been there early in the evening when there wasn't many people. Seating is limited to a few bar height tables and some small seating areas with arm chairs and the bar.Wheelchair accessible. read more

My husband and I went to Asiento today for a nice brunch. We live in the neighborhood and figured we should try it and support local businesses. I ordered the crabcakes benedict and my husband the breakfast sandwich with avocado. When our food finally came (which felt like too a little long) they gave me what I ordered, but my husband got a "breakfast burrito". Because we didn't want to cause any issues & because we didn't want to send anything back and wait another 30 minutes for the right order, my husband opted to keep the burrito. We were both less than impressed with our food. The crab cake was actually pretty disgusting I couldn't even eat more than a bite. I swallowed maybe half of the tots, but completely did not feel satisfied with the food, especially figuring I could have gone to the corner store and bought the same frozen tots myself and made them at home. My husband had a couple of bites of the burrito and it was mostly just filler crap inside and it was gross. For the price, you'd expect something a little better. Personally, I would have been more satisfied eating a McDonalds. The two stars I'm giving is for the lemonade that tasted pretty good and the friendly staff. Although, to be honest, we shouldn't have had to pay for the bartender/waitresses mistake by not entering the correct food in. She should have taken care of that. We decided to book the heck out of there as fast as possible and pay our bill. I don't have any reason to go back to this place. Luckily, progressive ground coffee across the street from Asiento has some pretty great food. We ended up eating there instead and felt much better. Unless Asiento changes their FOOD options to be a little bit better and not near frozen food/microwavable crap then we both won't be going back. I feel like if they served frozen food from trader joes, they'd fair much better then the crap their serving. read more

Thank God for Yelp Drinks; without that promo, I could very well have never discovered Asiento! Asiento is basically what I want my dream house bar to look like, complete with the cocktail menu and bartender. The space is open and warm; there is a gorgeous wooden bar; the seating areas have these cute wooden crates for tables. They play great music and the vibe is really chill. The only small downside is that there aren't a ton of seats, so hopefully they get some more in couches once they become more popular. My favorite of the four house cocktails I tried was the Basil Lemonade, but the Manhootan, Cucumber Rosemary, and (I think?) Cherry Kiss were all really great. I will definitely be back for their tapas and more cocktails! read more

Wow. This place is so.much.fun. A cool neighbourhood bar, with a wide open space, and large windows lined along the whole place. It has a cozy and warm atmosphere, with high top tables, and couches near the back of the room. If I lived in SF, I'm sure this would be one of the places that I'd be frequenting. We came here on a Friday night around 11pm and it wasn't too busy so we were able to get our own table. They have a simple cocktail list, with 8 cocktails, and a cocktail of the day, a mango mojito. I got a cucumber-rosemary cocktail with rosemary syrup, cucumber and vodka. As the friendly bartender mixed up our drinks, we headed to the back of the room to check out their board game selection. We were notified that Jenga was missing many of its pieces, so we settled on Scrabble and Blokus instead. The next two hours was spent playing Blokus, a game of strategy and some luck, while sipping on our delicious cocktails. It was a great night indeed. With a Yelp check in offer for a $6 cocktail, this only heightened the awesomeness of the whole night. read more

Several reviewers say Asiento has good cocktails -- I guess that's if you like them on the sweet side... Their cocktails are $8.50 each, but expect only yummy girly drinks that are not perfectly balanced and are pretty one dimensional. My 'Manhootan' was oddly sweet - I'm guessing they either used the honey flavored Jack or were too heavy handed with the aperol. The gin-based 'Tannenbaum' was really sweet and tasted more like an uncarbonated mojito. The 'Hummingbird' (tequila+grapefruit) was probably the best drink at our table simple because it was the least sweet. Overall, not impressed with the drinks. Maybe my standards were too high since I just went to Rickhouse earlier this week. I think my favorite part of Asiento was the board games. read more

A great neighborhood bar. A friend of mine moved down the block from here, and we were just exploring the neighborhood. Been here on a Friday night, and a couple of Saturdays, and the crowd never disappoints. The bartenders are super friendly, and they mix some pretty strong drinks. Its a small run establishment, the owner, and the 2 bartenders. Yet to try the food, but it did look sumptious. The place itself is quite well done. They have some sofas to lounge around on, and a few tables as well. There's a rather large open space, for when the place gets crowded. More often that not, however, it is a rather quiet place to just chill out and enjoy the evening. read more

The space is neat, there are board games, and the coffee was drinkable (1 star). The staff seems nice, but inattentive. Our server never asked how our food was, and I imagine she didn't ask because she knew it was bad. Brunch is terrible... ludicrously terrible. The food and drinks were the wrong color for Pete's sake. The bloody mary was brown and tasted like an old steak. The "hollandaise" sauce was hideously orange. Why it was orange, I do not know, because it tasted like lumpy, greasy lemonade. The tater tots had no seasoning at all and were hard and greasy. I went here with some friends on Friday night for dinner and drinks and we were pleasantly surprised! The cocktails were ALL so good, we each tried two and all of them were tasty and smooth! We ordered a bunch of apps - Meatballs, Guac, deviled Eggs were my favorite. They also have vegan options that are tasty. They had a live band that was pretty good, board games - we played connect 4 - and even chatted it up with the owner who was super sweet and personable. Went here for my birthday on a Sunday night. Great choice. I had about 20 friends join me here for tapas and drinks before heading to another location and it was a great place. I emailed their info email address asking about holding a party and Debi got back to me within 12 hours. She patiently answered all of my very frank questions about layout and ambiance. She even put my favorite drink on special - gimlets! Her wonderful attitude told me that this would be a good choice, so I went for it sight unseen. They reserved the back (though this place is open, so the "back" seems to be a bit of a misnomer) of the bar for us. The bartenders were super friendly, especially Tom (?, great hair anyway), and helped to make my party a success. They didn't seem to mind that we took up so much space and moved so much furniture. We sat on the comfy couches and chairs in the back. Both the cocktails and wines were great and reasonably priced. I think the other patrons (30 somethings) were a little jealous of our fun. :) Ok, here's the reason I didn't give 5 stars: I reserve it for the best of the best. The drinks, if I remember correctly, were fantastic. The tapas were good, but not great. It was nice to have a neighborhood bar that serves food, but they don't have great envelope pushing food. By all means, if you're not a snob, you will like the food, no doubt. I did. They have this incredibly good cheesy thing. But, it's no Joya in Palo Alto. Also, apparently a lot of my friends had a hard time finding parking. I didn't, but three out of about seven cars had difficulty. But, all in all, I totally recommend this place. This review is based on one experience at Sunday Brunch; take that for what it's worth. My boyfriend had eaten brunch here previously, and was raving about it, so last Sunday, we walked over there to check it out. There were four people in our party, I was the only one who hadn't eaten at Asiento before. Also, we were not drinking, as I had to drive shortly, and everyone else was hung over. I mention that, because the drinks looked interesting. The server, who kept using the excuse "Oh, I only work here on weekends", was barely available, refilled our water glasses by carrying them back to the bar and sitting them all down randomly and then returning them, possibly switching them, and was fairly inattentive. Also, our food came from the kitchen two plates at a time with an appreciable gap between delivery. So, half the people at the table awkwardly waited while their food got cold for ours to be delivered. That I could let pass, but when we got our food a full 45 minutes after we ordered, and there was a hair IN my food, it was over for me. And, let me clarify, the hair was underneath one of the English muffins of my Eggs Benedict - so it's not like it fell off my coat (which I was wearing because it was cold in there). Also, it was not a type of hair that anyone ever wants in their food. The server was apologetic about it, but I was done. I had her take my plate and I took off. I get that this place is trying to be cute - recycling bags and boxes into menus, not having straws (?!?), and using Heinz ketchup bottles full of some other crappy ketchup - but it's so not working for me. Honestly, with a bunch of other brunch places that turn out consistent, high quality, tasty, clean food (Beretta and Schmidt's come to mind), I can't see why I'd ever go here again. One star for most everything, one star for the live DJ who was actually playing things that were cool; he was the best part. read more

When I heard there was a new bar near my work from a yelp email, I got so excited! Asiento has a good amount of space, great drink selection, and cool bartenders. I have to remember to come back on Wednesday for board game night, or even taco Tuesday, The happy is hour special is pretty unique and based on first drink ordered, which becomes a special from that moment for one hour. This is a really awesome tapas bar. They have a wide range of liquor and wine. A small selection of draft beer, but those of high quality. Make sure to check out their board for specials. Great neighborhood Bar for me. Really yummy tapas, board games, trivia night, and uh, what else? Oh yeah, tasty libations. Basil lemonade is a hit, and for eating the queso fundido is a good choice. This is more upscale than the Jay'n Bee down the street, which is also a cool place, but Asiento is a bit more classy with couches, nice decor and of course the awesome purple painting. Of course the crowd is different, and the prices higher, but not crazy for what you get. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. Overall, it's a great place to meet some old friends for a drink or three, and have some food if you don't move on to a restaurant. I like this place a lot! The tapas are amazing ( You have to try the ceviche!!!), the drinks are great and their wine is good enough. I really like the atmosphere of this place, its great to go with some friends to sit down, drink, eat and chat. Its one of the most interesting bars in the Mission for sure and the prices are really affordable. My only complaint is: the bartenders are very friendly and nice but they are not very prompt. They take just foreeeeever to talk to you and definitely don't pay a lot of attention if you are waiting for them to approach or not. Also, the DJ- even though he plays some really good songs- interrupts the songs all the time and keep talking, when he could just shut up for a little bit and play some good music. But still, this place is worth a visit for sure! You will not regret!!! read more

Came here on an early Saturday night to find a very pleasant atmosphere. I love that there are games to play and it definitely feels like a place that you can sit and hang out at for a long time. The food is priced well for the quality. We got a cheese plate and crabcakes for less than $20. Their drinks are inventive and obviously made with love. Their homemade syrups are delicious... they used rosemary and lemonade syrup muddled in basil with ketel one citrus vodka... there was dancing in my mouth. The owner is super nice and so approachable. You can tell she works hard [she was bussing our table even though she had other people working there that night!] and looks out for you [I was getting drinks to be put on a friends tab and she wanted to make sure it was ok with him...
