After hearing so many glowing reviews of this place from trusted sources about this being the best Chinese restaurant in town, I had to try this place out for myself. Came in the other day and was excited to try out some hopefully good Chinese food. I hate when I don't share the same enthusiasm as my friends do but this was so disappointing. I ordered some crispy spring rolls, the General Tao's chicken and fried rice. Simple, I know but you really shouldn't be able to screw this up. The spring rolls: I thought they were fine. The sweet and sour sauce (or whatever it was) was not good. It might as well have been maple syrup. Where's the red sauce that is basically standard issue at all Chinese restaurants? Thankfully the wait for my meal wasn't too long so as not to dwell on if I should look into getting a dentist appointment. So here comes the meal and my heart sank. The chicken was just covered in syrupy, goop. And the fried rice, oh . . . the poor, poor fried rice. There were no vegetables, not even any egg, no nothing. It just looked like someone just said, "fuck it. Rice, soy sauce, this is how you make it right?" At the least, the rice was fluffy. I tried the chicken. I did like the crunch from the batter but other than that, I had the same issue as I did with the sauce from the spring rolls. The sauce for the General Tao's chicken was so damn sugary. And there was so much of it! No wonder why people in this town go for it. This was like the super-size or big gulp of chinese food. I couldn't even finish it I started to get a stomach ache. I waited for my check, the server didn't even ask how everything was. Nothing. I mean, he was nice and all but the service here just said, "thanks for eating here. . . I guess? What else do you want from me?" Look, I'm open to trying other dishes on the menu to change my opinion but if you screw up General Tao's chicken this badly I am scared to think of how bad the other dishes are. read more

I tried the takeout from here and got 2 lunch specials.Mongolian beef with fried rice, beef lo mien and a large won-ton soup. The fried rice was ok, but the Mongolian Beef was way too salty to eat. The lo mien on the other hand was a little bland.The soup came a blob of won-tons in the broth with no scallions in it. I was really disappointed with my order. read more

DO LUNCH - great prices for the lunch menu without a huge sacrifice on quantity. The most authentic Thai food I've found in Athens thus far. Quick service. Not sure about the Chinese food though so try that at your own risk. Owners are a couple - one with a Thai background and one with Chinese heritage. read more

Great food and the guy who owns the place is very nice. For being one of the only Asian restaurants in Athens, I think it is really good.

I would not eat here again! This was the first time we tried this restaurant. 1. The Fried Rice with Bacon hardly had any bacon. 2. Be careful ordering the Kung Pao Chicken. I has red peppers in it that a normal person can not eat. They burned by daughters mouth. 3. The Teriyaki Chicken really is NOT teriyaki chicken does NOT have a Teriyaki Favor. 4. The Crap Rangoons were wonderful! I called and voiced my concern they basically said they would do NOTHING. And that I should not talk to the manager because he was not a nice person. Very good food and service! I ate there for the first time recently and had the Mongolian Beef and spring roll. Tasted very fresh and cooked perfectly! The staff was very polite and professional also, I will be going back to try other things on the menu. read more

My boyfriend and I were having a casual date night and wanted to try something different. The appetizer we had was great. But the waiter we had was really rude. I honestly don't remember what day we came in and I'm not sure what time they close but we wanted to pop in and out for a short dinner together. As soon as the waiter greeted us we could immediately tell he was reluctant to serve us. He didn't seem at all very busy. He had three tables including ourselves. He asked us if we were ready i asked for drinks and an appetizer and another minute. The appetizer came out shortly with our drinks and asked us if we were ready. I asked for a couple more minutes hence it was my first time here. I was ready a minute later and we sat there for ten minutes, really hungry. We decided to leave money on the table only for the appetizer and left elsewhere, where we could actually receive service. The young man was rude and i felt really rushed. Neither of us are going to ever return because of this terrible experience we endured. read more

They are very unprofessional, rude, and they cheated me out of an order. I went up there with a big order from both myself and my classmates. I first tried to call it in, they didn't awnser. At the time I didn't think much of it so I thought Meh I have it few minutes to spare I'll just run up there. That should have been a sign not to order, dare I say an establishment. So I stayed in line, the place is packed. I thought that was a good sign that the food was going to be really good. So I tell them my order and they read it off to me. I politely corrected them multiple times that I didn't want the sesame chicken that it was orange chicken. I can understand that the male taking our orders night of had a log going on; being that it was a rush. So, I politely asked if their phone worked l, because I called multiple times and no one answered the phone. He replies in a nasty tone "obviously can't you see that we are busy," as he walks away with our order. This should have been a red flag on my behalf, but I was already hungry and already took nine orders plus mine. So, I paid the situation no mind and waited for my order. After waiting over 30 minutes I was a little aggravated, but I can understand that there were a lot of orders before mine. So they give me my order and looked through it and everything looked like it was there. So I get but to my hotel room and start handing out our food and someone is missing an orange chicken. So, I called up Athens Wok and yet again they don't awnser. It takes me by the fourth call to finally get them on the phone. They tell me that they are about to close image tell them about the situation. The same male that took my order, again in a very rude voice told me "well what do you want me to do?" At this point it is taking all my strength to keep my calm. I asked if we could get the food, and if you couldn't can i just get a refund for the food that i never got. He said that they would make our order of orange chicken. On my way to the 'establishment', I call and tell them I'm on my way there the male there said that they didn't even start on the order yet. It has been at least ten minutes since I called and he told me that they can make the order for me. At this pout it is almost 12 and I had to be back in the hotel room by 12, because of an overnight trip through my high school. So I apologized for the inconvenience and asked for a refund instead. The man is yelling and cursing at me saying how it's an inconvenience to him and a bunch of other things that I can't repeat. Mind you that I am an seventeen year old female, that is from this area. I have been respectable to the establishment, and to the workers. I did not lose my temper when they didn't awnser their phone, nor when the one male got snappy at me, or even about the wait, not even when you messed my order . But this grown man what is representing your establishment is being flat out rude to your customers, that's where I draw the line. I told him "that it's in inconvenience to you? I paid for my meal that I haven't received, and you think it's an inconvenience to you." And the man keeps yelling, I hung up the phone before thinking skills got more heated. When I come back to Athens I will make sure not to ever eat here again. read more

My wife and I recently stopped by here for Father's day. This was fairly early on a Sunday while school was out so there was literally no one in the restaurant. With trepidation, my wife agreed to give it a try. I must say that we were all extremely impressed with the quality of the food and service. The staff helped us with selecting dishes in line with our taste preferences (spicy but not too sweet for me, not too spicy for my wife) and even gave us free samples of some of the curries, soup and a few other offerings to further guide us in our choices. The food itself was delicious. Fresh, hot and delicate in flavor with the right amount of heat for me. My wife was by her own account never a fan of Thai food. Now she is, at least at Athens Wok. This is definitely among the best Thai food I have ever had. We will be returning. read more

Super disappointed in what appeared to be the "#1 rated Chinese restaurant" in Athens. I thought it was way over priced for what we got. The rice portions are a decent amount, but the meat, not so much. Not to mention the meat was soggy when we got our orders. Let down and I do not think I will be giving my business to them again. read more

Some of the best Chinese/Thai food I've had in Georgia. The Pad Thai and General Tso's are excellent!

Great food! I ordered crab rangoons and the Pad Thai lunch entree with tofu, which came with a spring roll--all of which were delicious! While the restaurant is nothing fancy, the food is fresh and not too greasy. The service was excellent--very friendly and fast! I will definitely be going back to Athens Wok! read more
