Came here for lunch with my sister. It was such a nice day so we chose to sit outside. It is right on the street so I just wanna caution people that it can get pretty loud during the day with lots of trucks and deliveries stopping and going around the surrounding businesses. We shared some shrimp shumai and a few sushi rolls. The spider roll was tasty, sushi overall tasted good. The shumai was good although I could tell they weren't homemade. The sauce was a bit too sweet so I just added some soy sauce to balance it out. We had a nice server and it was about $70 including tip for an app and 3 sushi rolls.

Ato Sushi - Grand Rapids, MI - A Must-Stop Before a Concert! We made Ato Sushi our dinner stop before heading to GLC Live to see Lawrence and the Band on tour, and let me just say--this was the PERFECT choice! First off, the location couldn't be better. Right in the heart of beautiful downtown Grand Rapids, the vibe walking in already felt exciting, with the city lit up and buzzing before the show. The restaurant itself is modern, cozy, and has that clean, upscale look without feeling stuffy. Now let's talk about the STAR of the night... THE SUSHI. Fresh isn't even the word--this was FRESH-FRESH. Like melt-in-your-mouth, made-right-in-front-of-you, every-bite-is-a-vibe fresh. The rolls were beautifully plated, the fish was super high quality, and you could taste the difference compared to typical sushi spots. Even the rice was seasoned perfectly. We ordered a mix of classic and specialty rolls, and every single one hit! Service was quick and friendly, which we appreciated since we had a concert to catch. They kept things moving without making us feel rushed--a rare balance! By the time we left for the concert, we were full, happy, and already talking about coming back the next time we're in town. If you're looking for sushi in Grand Rapids--especially before a night out--Ato Sushi is the move. Fresh food, great downtown location, good energy... 10/10! I was thinking about rating it a 8 due to no lychee martinis but, they didn't serve any liquor so THATS OK!!!

Kind of a mixed bag at this place the other night. We showed up 30 mins before they closed. Had we known they were going to rush us to have us out the door so they could lock it before closing time, we wouldn't have gone. The good: prices are reasonable, the spring rolls were fantastic, and one of the three sushi rolls I had was really good. The bad: the salad needed to be cut up and the dressing was sloppy, edamame didn't taste like anything, two of the three sushi rolls were just fair, and they don't seem to serve alcohol. Even though we tried to order to get things somewhat spaced out, everything came within five mins after ordering. Our bill came a few mins later. And they basically asked for us to pay right then since they were closing soon. Then they said, oh no rush, take your time, but then two more people came by to remind us they were closing. I've never gone from showing up, to eating what should've been a three-course sushi meal, to leaving in 20 mins. Just not a great experience overall.

This place had great reviews, so I had high expectations that were unfortunately not met. The sweet potato roll and the veggie delight rolls were pretty disappointing. They weren't very flavorful and each piece was massive- I could barely fit it in my mouth! I felt slightly embarrassed eating and have to use my teeth to chomp the pieces in half. The crab Rangoons and miso soup were decent, but I feel like you can't really get those wrong. My husband said his trio of rolls were pretty good. They don't have sake either, so we ate fairly quickly and left so we could grab a drink somewhere else.

Ato Sushi is a wonderful, budget-friendly sushi option on Monroe Avenue. The staff are very friendly, and this spot is pretty busy even on a Monday night. Seating is limited, but the environment is very cozy by the window to the street within view at all tables. I had the New York roll and salmon sashimi. The roll was good, despite being much larger than bite-sized. I didn't give this spot five stars, because the sashimi had not been cut properly (against the grain with thin, even slices). When it is not cut properly, even good fish can be a pretty bad chewing experience.

This adorable and unassuming storefront offers some great flavors and extremely friendly service! The croquettes were super creamy inside with a delightful crunchy exterior and the potato corn dog had ooey gooey mozzarella cheese hidden inside! And the sushi options were seemingly endless! I am already looking forward to a return visit to try something new!

I came here last night with a friend while we were visiting GR. The restaurant was quite small, but it wasn't very busy. I dont know how weekends are. We were sat immediately and left to look at the menus. We were in a little bit of a rush so we looked quickly and waited for our waitress to come. It look about 10 minutes before she came back, no big deal. We got the crab rangoons to share and they were good, nothing special. Then I ordered the Bulgogi Box, which was very flavorful! My friend got the Sashimi Box which she enjoyed. Both were great entrees for the price! Would totally recommend for a quick dinner!

First of all very kind staff. Small place (not overwhelming at all). The food is why I keep coming back, it's really fresh and the quality is insane, extremely fast too. No alcohol but it's worth it. I like going on Friday to treat myself. One of my fav places so far.

Perfect! Food was delicious, the venue was cozy, and the service was exceptional. The presentation was also phenomenal--sushi on a boat! We also got some mochi for desert, which was delicious. Came back here a second time because I was impressed by my first visit, but was let down. Ordered the seafood udon which tasted straight like the prepackaged ones that you can buy from the Asian markets for $1. The seafood was barely visible as they were tiny pieces thrown into the soup. Asked for spice after the dish was served and was charged for a petite dish of sriracha. Quite the letdown. read more

I have given this place multiple opportunities. It's just not good. The food is overpriced & does not have a good taste. I got tamago today, one bite was enough. My mom spit it out after trying it. The ramen tasted like it came from a packet. Noodles were over cooked. Miso had a very off flavor. Just genuinely not good. And the worst part is the guys making the sushi are pigs. The nasty looks they give you & the things they say. They're extremely objectifying. read more

I really enjoy coming here when I'm in town. The lunch bento box is a great price for what you get. It usually comes with tempura but I do not like tempura in general so I ask for none. I get the bulgogi bento box; which is in the photo. Super yummy :) read more

I work across from Ato so my coworkers and I get it often. We have never had a bad experience there. The wait staff are ALWAYS friendly, the food always tastes great and is timely. I highly suggest them for your sushi needs. Both indoor and outdoor seating is a huge plus. read more

Really cute spot across from the Amway Grand Plaza. Came for lunch on a busy weekday with a couple of conferences going on, and they handled the crowds nicely. Food was fresh and delicious (we split a full sized roll plus one of the lunch roll combos) , service was quick and friendly. Would recommend! read more

I was across the street for a conference and saw this restaurant on the first day. Since I had a short lunch break I didn't get to go but plenty of other folks from the same conference did go and reported good food. I made the trip the next two days and had some really good, fresh sushi. They have the bento box style lunches like those served in Southern California with nigiri, sushi and also a little Korean influence with some bulgogi. The fish was fresh, the sushi was hand made upon order and I really enjoyed both lunches I had there. I'd definitely come back if I find myself in Grand Rapids again. read more

Ordered a larger omakase , spring roll and miso soup today on Grubhub. Mild food poisoning a couple of hours later. Not surprised, fish did taste questionable. Overall, bland to inedible with what I can only surmise is an attempt at Tuna Aburi that is executed in a criminally reprehensible way. Also, not cheap at all. Some of the worse sushi I've had in a long long time, and I put this considerably below all you can eat joints. May be a great way to lose a few lbs though. read more

All of the sushi I've tried here has been high quality and well-made. The yellowtail roll is perfectly buttery. I would personally recommend coming here between 12:30-2pm if you want lunch, but don't want to experience the lunch rush. I usually get a few rolls and a bowl of miso soup. Their main entrees are great, but I prefer the sushi when making the trip here. One thing I did notice is that their labels for spicy items are greatly exaggerated for the local crowd, which I expect in this area. Most of the spicy items are just seasoned or spiced well. read more

Do not come here for Ramen. I ordered the $14 Spicy Ramen. It came with very few vegetables : two slices of mushrooms , cabbage and green onions and a little grated carrot. The spicy broth that was thin and watery. Honestly the noodles were the same as the Ramen packets you buy 3 for a dollar in any supermarket. No meat at all. I asked for some seafood for an extra $3. I love ramen but this was a total disappointment. . Never again. read more

This location was directly across the street from my hotel, while recently visiting Grand Rapids. It made it an easy choice for dinner since I love sushi. Myself and a co-worker were quickly greeted and seated. The waitress was quick with our drinks and assisted us with taking our order in an expeditious manner. The sushi was very good, made very quickly and tasted very fresh. My only disappointment was that they do not serve beer, as we both requested a Kirin Ichiban and were told that there is no alcohol served there. Overall, great service, good food and I would recommend if you're in the area. read more

My friends & I had an impromptu trip to Grand Rapids, just because. Most of the restaurants are either close or about to close (it was Wednesday). We spotted this restaurant in both yelp and google and seemed to be decent. Restaurant was smaller than expected. Our server took her time taking our orders, but jeez. It didn't disappoint. We got more than our money's worth. It was good, decent serving size. I got a spicy something. I forgot. (W/ crunch and tuna and eel sauce?) and a Don Katsu bento. We all had left overs by the end of dinner. Restroom was clean Restaurant Food Server she went out her way to help us with looking for a pharmacy near us. She even checked her purse for some Tylenol. read more

This restaurant is a small Korean/Japanese sushi place located downtown Grand Rapids--and it's phenomenal! Their sushi is a great price for what you get, not to mention it tastes incredible! It is some of the best sushi I've had in the area. For the price, you get way more sushi than you could get at a sushi boutique restaurant. Two rolls for the price of one roll at a boutique. And, it tastes better. So it's a win-win. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the space is clean. If you need recs, the sexy roll and crunchy shrimp tempura roll are my faves! My boyfriend loves the Mexican and salsa rolls as well. Love this place! read more

What a cute little place; perfect for my lunch between running errands! The decor was clean and simple. The waitstaff were friendly, attentive, and helpful explaining the menu. I liked the dry erase marker with erasable menu! The lunch special I ordered came with a steaming bowl of miso soup, five chef's choice sushi, and California roll; just right for a quick lunch. Confession time: I usually don't order sushi at Ato. It's not because the sushi isn't good--it is. It's that I'm a huge fan of the udon noodles here. Two trips to Japan sort of spoiled me for American sushi (it's fine, just not the same). And sushi is widely available. Simple, delicious, steaming, slurpable udon, is not. Ato has an extensive menu that goes beyond sushi and noodles to include Korean dishes as well as other Japanese favorites like teriyaki chicken. That makes Ato a solid choice for small groups where not everyone loves sushi. The menu includes a variety of lunch combinations and specials, which makes sense given the downtown location. Ato is very convenient to my office, which makes it a lunchtime favorite. read more

Very good! Had a sushi lunch combo and a tempura udon. Priced fairly and was very fresh. I really like the combo of Korean and Japanese. Staff was very nice and attentive. They were getting quite busy for lunch while I was there which was a great sign. Small and good food, what more could you ask. I've lived in la and Hawaii so I honestly wasn't expecting much. The sushi here looked and tasted great. I'd encourage anyone looking for a fresh and quick bite to come here. The only comment was that I found the miso soup and udon broth to be a tad on the sweet side. But I think that's a comment that goes for 99% of midwestern food. read more

I've seen this place while passing by many times but I've never had the chance to pop in for a bite. Man, am I happy I finally got to tonight.
