Came for the chicken sandwich in the middle of the chicken sandwich wars. My sandwich was way overcooked and the cabbage was cut too big and was too hard to chew I actually threw the sandwich away. For a dad and daughter who like good burgers, Atomic Burger has become the new Saturday go to after dance class. (This comes after the closure of the previous favorite, Phil's Grill). The burgers here are high-quality, cooked consistently and offered in four major variants: Atomic (the familiar mustard, ketchup, American cheese style), Mushroom Swiss, the bacon-onion Jamburger, and my personal favorite, Green Chili Cheeseburger. A portobello mushroom burger is available but unfortunately is offered only in the full size and not as a small slider, probably because the mushroom is more difficult to work with at smaller sizes. They also have a turkey burger that I will try--someday. Burgers are sold as standard size offerings for about $7, but consider instead the little sliders for just under $3 each, where you can mix and match different types. The French Fries are rough cut and pleasantly crunchy and salty. THe shakes come in a variety of flavors, some on the exotic side, and are prepared with a whiz-bang Buck Rogers frozen nitro contraption that forms the centerpiece of the whole space. It looks gimmicky, but the shakes come out perfectly blended and delicious. Atomic Burger does justice to Veterans Highway's long history with the burger. (The official name is and has been "Veterans Memorial Boulevard" for decades, but I go back to the one-side, shell road days.) Hopper's near Transcontinental was a popular drive-in up until Hurricane Betsy came through. The Swamp Room was the first place I ever tried a big, juicy burger outside of a home kitchen or backyard grill. One of the oldest McDonald's in the area still operates down near the corner of Williams Boulevard (it's been renovated at least 3 times) and the McDonald's diagonally across Vets from Atomic Burger briefly held in the early 1970s the distinction of being the most expensive parcel of land the corporation had ever acquired for a restaurant. I loved this spot. I was starving after my flight and ate here for dinner. I wasn't sure what to get, so I ordered 3 sliders to make my own sampler. I had the Atomic Burger, Green Chile, and Mushroom Swiss. My favorite was the Atomic Burger. This classic dressing was perfect. It was so good that I ate there again before I headed home and bought a burger for later that night. The green chile could have been better if there was a little more to it, like avocado and white queso as the cheese. So we were on a mission to try the newly opened Shake Shack but was turned around by the large crowd waiting to get it . We had our stomachs set on burgers and shakes so my daughter suggested we go down the street to Atomic Burger! I'm so glad she did! No line inside , just a couple cars in the drive thru! We went inside. Very friendly staff! We ordered the mushroom Swiss burgers with fries and milkshakes. The burger was delicious and the fries were hot and crispy. The milkshakes were super thick and they give you a big straw to drink it! I had vanilla and my daughter had strawberry. Both were very good! The only issue I had was that the tables inside weren't clean and I didn't see anyone attend to them when I was there . I went here last year and it was amazing. The burger looked almost exactly like the ad. Crisp lettuce, big slices of tomato, nice juicy burger. I also got the milkshake combo. Not TODAY. I stopped in on a Friday night to try the cauliflower bun which is a good option if your low carb or keto. It's an upcharge of $1 and a nice change from tour regular lettuce wrapped burger. It is on the menu and the employee stated it has become very very popular. They also offer edamame instead of French fries, but I can not speak on those because I only got the burger. The taste was very good, but the cauli bun fell apart easily. I think it should be grilled a bit longer to give it a nice crunch. I haven't been to Atomic Burger in over a year so I was in the area and decided to give them a fresh taste test. The burgers were super fresh and piping hot to the point that the cheese was melting ever so nicely like a cheeseburger should. The hand cut fries were cooked perfectly. I was all ready to enjoy this beautiful cheeseburger and then I bit into the burger which started out great until all of the salt on the burger just ruined my whole experience. I'm going to chalk this up to a over zealous cook getting a little heavy handed on the salt shaker. So I will hold my judgment on removing them from my burger options. read more

I ended up at Atomic Burger for a school fundraiser one night. It was fine, but nothing mind-blowing. They do seem to be overpriced for what you get. I suppose part of it is the allure of the milkshake, which my daughter ordered and enjoyed watching it being prepared. She didn't rave that it was the greatest milkshake of all time, but she enjoyed it. Overall, if I was in the area and just HAD to have a burger, this would be an option. This is my third visit to this restaurant. I didn't want a third visit due to my previous bad experiences, but my friend insisted. The basic burger is too basic. This location follows through with the typical fast food service we have come to know and love in the New Orleans metro area. The service was slow and the staff was dismissive. Tonight I drove through and got a regular edamame, a portabella burger and a chocolate shake...so that was kind of a lot of food for me. The regular edamame was equivalent to an appetizer order at a Japanese restaurant and was great. The portabella burger came with carmelized onions (yum) and good quality swiss cheese. Well i was thoroughly pleased with everything I had here. I've already come back for the second time in less than a week. That's saying a lot. Especially since this is in the heart of Metairie and requires me to venture from my comfortable, Mid City abode. The menu is simple and straight forward. The atomic burger is easily the best 'fast' burger you're gonna get. The specialty burgers also come in slider form so you can go that route if you want to get a good sample of what they're hitting for. The fries are hand-cut, which I'm a huge fan of, i think they can go a bit more easy on the salt tho. The milkshakes...oh the milkshakes! Whatever that process is they put them through will have you addicted. That cookies and cream is something so serious. They only come in one size, but I know I'd happily pay a little extra for a larger amount, it just disappears way too fast. They've got my vote and repeated business. read more

Fantastic option for a burger in Metairie. Of the "fast food" joints, Atomic burger definitely reigns supreme over McDonalds and Burger King. I am on a low carb diet, so I enjoy their options for a lettuce wrapped burger and edamame instead of fries. They can take any of their burger selections and wrap it in lettuce rather than a bun. The flavor is solid and the carbs are nilch... perfect for me. The edamame is a unique alternative for fries in a burger restaurant... love it. I have to throw a bone to the shakes here too... of course, I don't get one thanks to the carbs, but my kids love them. The presentation is pretty impressive... it's a massive liquid nitrogen chilled milkshake machine that blasts out a white cloud just like the Delorean in Back to the Future every time they make a shake. I pulled in here thinking I'm about to be duped into another overpriced burger joint with their gimmicky burgers. I pulled up to the drive thru and see they have liquid nitrogen tanks for their milk shakes. I had 2 immediate thoughts. 1 was the only time I encountered liquid nitrogen was in a high school chemisty class where we put a bunch of rubber bouncy balls in liquid nitrogen then shattered them all like balls of glass. The other thing I thought was GIMMICKY! I ordered a basic cheese burger, fries and a medium Dr. Pepper. The total was 9.22. I immediately thought I was duped. They handed me my drink. It came in a styrofoam cup with crushed ice. This is a a huge deal for us fountain drink fiends. Hush it enviromentalists! Styrofoam keeps my drink cold!!! The fries were fresh cut. This is suppose to be a good thing. Anything fresh is always better right? WRONG! Everytime I get fresh cut fries, they are burnt and soggy. From Five Guys to Ruth Chris steakhouse, it's the same thing. I want a crisp fluffy fry. McDonalds get's it right most of the time with their cancer causing frozen crap. The only place that has ever gotten fresh cut fries right to me is Luke. Sorry Atomic Burger, you got caught in my rant. On with the review The burger was perfect! It was slightly chared on the outside, juicy and hot in the middle, not too big of a patty and a small, light thin bun, perfect for smashing the burger down. I hate when I get to much bread or a sesame seed bun. This bun is perfect. They also use shredded chedder instead of some government cheese sliced off of some big ass block. The only other issue is the parking and the location is a pain in the ass. Their lot is really small and you can get stuck waiting for all the Veterans traffic to go by before someone lets you out. I'm guessing it is likely just the flavorful combinations of shakes, not the burgers (so why not just be a milkshake shop?). I probably picked the wrong flavor, but the shake was nothing more than your standard Dutch chocolate ice cream that you could pick up in a store in a 12 oz cup. The burger? Nothing terrible, but more on par with Lees or Bud's and certainly not anything worth of a $5+ price tag. The fries come pouring out of a cup and the burger is neatly half wrapped so you can eat it out of the wrapper. I've never in my life NOT put ketchup on my burger. From the first absolutely juicy bite, I was hooked! The special sauce is a mixture of ketchup, mayo, and mustard I think. More on the yellow side. You don't need to even add salt to the fries. They were perfect too. I'm now needing something sweet and regret not getting a shake. The food is good, but would've been a lot better without the stress. Not a place to go if you are more than one or 2 people. The other day: So my coworkers abated to go to a restaurant out in Metairie (Cajun Cannon?) but the parking lot was packed and the restaurant looked full. A last minute decision was made to go to Atomic Burger and I wasn't very excited because I didn't want to eat a burger and fries!! One bite into a sandwich and I though "wow I need to add a star to my Yelp review, this is AMAZING." I did snag a few fries from my coworker and I could have eaten the whole bunch of them! So this place gets 4 stars now instead for 3.
