The salon is very clean and welcoming. I got in for my appointment right as scheduled, and the stylist was so sweet and easy to talk to! I have been wanting to change my hair drastically from the Mom Bob I've been sporting to something a little more chic and short. After moving to Matthews, I found very few of the local salons were thoroughly reviewed. Attitudes had a thorough website with descriptions of the stylists and a service menu, etc., so I decided to give them a try. I called them on a Thursday afternoon and they were able to fit me in within a few hours with April Crooke. I got there a few minutes early and was greeted immediately by a genuinely friendly receptionist who got offered me a drink. April came out immediately and escorted me back to my hair. I told her what I wanted, she washed my hair and got to work immediately. She was confident and decisive with her shears, which made me feel very comfortable this was a stylist who knew what she was doing (it always makes me nervous when I get a stylist who has to stand back and decide what to do next). She was also very laid-back and easy to talk to. I'm a jeans, t-shirt and tattoos kind of woman, so I've gotten a few snobby stylists over the years who haven't had much to say to me, but April was super easy to get along with. Secondly, I have very fine, straight hair, but a LOT of it. I have had many cuts in the past that were mediocre because of this (most stylists don't know how to thin it out so it doesn't look blocky, so a style that looks great in the salon ends up looking kind of chunky and bleh once I get home and wash it out, rather than soft and pretty). April knew how to handle it, thinning it out with a razor. But you don't need to know every detail of my hair cut. What you do need to know is I walked out of there absolutely glowing, with the awesome pixie cut I'd dreamed of, and she even showed me how to style it easily so I can keep it looking fantastic. I don't feel like a shlumpy mom anymore, I feel like a freaking movie star. I mean, this hair cut might actually have been a bad idea, because I might just stop taking care of my kids and stare in the mirror all the time. I have never had a better salon experience and I absolutely will be back to Attitudes to see April. read more

The same woman cut my hair from August of 1997, until she passed away suddenly last year. It never dawned on me that it would actually be almost traumatic to replace that 12 year relationship. I am confident that I have finally found her replacement. Today was my second visit with Shari Wynn. For decades I was spoiled by some of the finest cutters on Madison Ave. I don't feel as though I am missing anything with Shari. After having a good experience here previously, I have to say how disappointed I was in my last visit. I arrived 10 minutes early and was looking forward to getting my hair cut. My stylist was courteous, but seemed kind of annoyed to be at work that day and then everything was super rushed for no reason. (There were no other customers waiting and it wasn't before lunch or anything.) She was in the middle of cutting some layers and then super fast just said, "okay you're done." She never checked to make sure it was even, I didn't get a chance to look at the back of my hair and she didn't ask if I was happy with it or wanted any changes. After paying, I walked out and the whole thing had taken less than 25 minutes. I don't mind if a cut is quick, if it's a great experience-- but overall this was very underwhelming. Women's hair cuts are expensive and I think expecting to leave feeling well cared for is appropriate. I hope this was an isolated experience because it's in a great location, but I will probably be going elsewhere next time. read more

After moving to the area 7+ years ago I had still as of yet found "my salon." When I needed a cut I'd visit salons my friends frequented but had yet to find that one place that I wanted to continue to go back to. Then I discovered Attitudes. Specifically I very much wanted a big change. Hair down past my shoulders, I wanted a pixie and to dye it funky colors. I was tired of having "mom hair" and taking my hair so seriously. After finding the salon's site in a Google search I called and specifically asked to be paired with a stylist who wasn't afraid to do "funky." An appointment was setup with April Kuhn the next day (surprisingly quick). All I can say is I have found "my salon." Not only is April K amazing, she isn't afraid to work outside the box. She doesn't work under any preconceived notions that a certain age, face shape or body size should have a certain type of style. She's amazing with my autistic son who often comes in with me and is great to talk to during a cut! After my first cut, a super short spikey pixie, I came home to my husband as was met with a "wow." First time in 10 years of marriage that I've gotten that sort of reaction to a cut! That just says it all. Since then I've come home to more "wows" as well as a "hubba hubba!" April isn't the only positive at this salon though! The entire staff is hilarious and welcoming. They make you feel comfortable; not at all like you are in a stuffy, pretentious salon. The place is incredibly clean, bright (huge windows) and a joy to be in. Like many salons, the price list at Attitudes depends on your stylist. The more experienced, the more the fee. That said however, I referred a friend recently who sat with one of the "less experienced" stylists and even she came out saying she had found "her salon." If you are looking for "your salon" I cannot say enough about this place. I won't ever go anywhere else! read more

My daughter and her friend had their hair and make up done for prom at Attitudes A Salon. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. Scheduling the appointment was very easy. The girls both looked amazing as did the many other young prom-goers who came in while we were there! I was so impressed with what I saw with all of the stylists that I asked for a "walk-in". I was worked in and it was sincerely the best cut I have ever had. We had a wonderful experience and we will definitely go back. read more

My experience was few months ago when I went for brazilian blowout. I did this treatment twice before st minnesota.my hairs are already smooth and straight, I do this treatment just for good look. Usually this treatment can go 5 to 6 months on my hair. No damage happens to my hair. So I went to attitude a salon for brazillian first time. The girl did it in 1.5 hours and I was amazed because previously I used to take 3 hours for this treatment. I paid almost 300 $ with tip.i gave very nice tip that time. Next day morning my hair started looking frizzy. .i waited a day and same look..and I washed hair with the shampoo they gave me from salon, my hair was much more dry and frizzy .so I got mad like anything and I went back in salon. Manager was nice and she said something wrong in treatment we will redo it. I went again and this time it was looking good.15 days later i went for haircut with same lady I had brazilian done first time.she cuts my hair and at the time of drying she dry with curls in end. I mean how stupid is that. I have brazillian done with them for straight hair, they did it something wrong and now she curled in bottom of my hair. It was trouble managing for me. in less than 3 week of treatment it started going back to frizzy hair. Hair became so dry and rough. I never had that before. I love long hair but because of that incident I now have very small pony in my hair. I don't know about their other services but would recommend not to go with this salon for brazillian blowout. I know very well the result of brazilian blowout. And looks like they don't know the real treatment step. Or the stylist are not at all trained well for this. Because that lady even told me that I am not the only person but it happened with one other girl too so they might doing some mistake. I never spend time to write review but if I am spending 300 $ for a service and getting this then I would at least help others by writing my experience. read more

I had a great experience today at Attitudes. Didn't want a Great Clips or Sport Clips cut so I wandered into this place by chance. I obviously didn't have an appointment but the woman working there squeezed me in immediately before her next client. She was a pleasure to talk to and cut my hair exactly to my request. It was $20 for a cut which I found totally reasonable. Will definitely be back! read more

My family of four daughters and myself, have been going to Attitudes: A Salon in Matthews, North Carolina, for almost 15 years now for hair services, color, highlights, special occasion updos, and everything in between. We have always been happy with the stylists and services. Today I was treated so badly by the owner Lynda, I seriously doubt any of us will ever return there. I had my hair colored a week ago, and the color did not come out well at all. Xan was my stylist, and she recolored it three times, trying to make it right. She is sweet, talented, and definitely tried to please. I was told if I didn't like the color, to come back and have it re-done by her. I waited a week, and the color was just not what I wanted, and didn't look flattering at all. So I made an appointment today to have it re-done. Xan did an amazing job and it now looks wonderful. However, when I went to check out, I was charged full-price of $188. Last week I paid $178 plus tip of course. When I asked why I was being charged full-price for a redo...I was told by the owner Lynda (in front of other customers) that I already received 3 free colors and did I think my stylist shouldn't get paid for her work? She told me not to come back to the salon if I thought I shouldn't have to pay for the redo. She told me that I messed up her stylist's schedule, and that she almost lost a client because of me. I was there for 5 hours, while she redid my color, which was also at great inconvenience to me, as we were supposed to leave for an out-of-town trip that day. I also had to reschedule my original appointment two times for the conven ience of the salon and stylist. We ended up having to pay the cost of a hotel room as a result of my appointment running very late and were 5 hours late leaving for our trip that day. I felt I should get some kind of discount, because $416 for a hair color seems exorbitantly high, and also because of the reschedulings, and my inconvenience. But I was embarrassed, and yelled at by the owner, as she told me her stylist needed and deserved to be paid, and didn't I want her to be paid (in her presence, of course). I have never in my entire life been treated like this in any salon, or by any salon owner. I am so disappointed, and humiliated by this treatment, that even though I am now very happy with my color and highlights, I doubt I, (or any of our family) will ever return. I never dispute prices, always tip well, and am a well-liked generous customer in all aspects of my life. I would NEVER not pay for a service I received, EVER. This treatment was really over the top. It reminds me of that saying "People may not remember what you say, but they will NEVER forget how you made them feel" I certainly won't ever forget this treatment! read more

I wish I could give them no stars. Why? I wasn't even able to get my hair done. I made an appointment here last week. I showed up about 10 minutes early and checked in. 30 minutes later, I was still sitting in the waiting area, so I left. They called me about 5 minutes after I left and said they'd give me 50% off my services if I'd come back since it was their scheduling error. No thanks-Honestly, that's only to their advantage. On a busy Saturday, it would be better for them to make 50% than the zero dollars they'd make with the opening. The worst part-I originally scheduled the appointment for 10:00, and THEY called ME to ask if I'd come in at 9:30 instead! I'm new to NC, so I was looking for a new salon. When I arrived here they had fired the stylist with whom I had an appointment. Rather than notifying me or moving my appointment to another stylist's schedule, I was treated as a walk-in. The girl who did my cut was also working on another client at the same time, instructing an assistant to work on her color. I showed her photos of the cut I wanted, so there was no mistaking what I asked for. I specifically told her a couple of things I didn't want as well. After a half hour, during which she spent a lot of time talking about herself, her history, and her accomplishments, she let me see my hair. I have very fine, straight hair, and there was no styling done post-cut, so it was hard to see in any detail. I did notice a couple of things that I specifically noted that I didn't want, such as layers too short to fit in a ponytail and shorter layers near the face. I asked for a long bob, and my finished cut was longer in the back than in the front, which was not what I asked for. I wasn't given the opportunity to talk about it, as she finished my cut and immediately went back to the other client she was working on. I was told that she'd meet me up front, but she never did so I left. This was one of the worst salon experiences I've ever had, and I had to go have it re-cut elsewhere the next day. Needless to say, I will never return and will certainly not recommend it to anyone I know. read more
