Lunch Lemon Grass Chicken, double rice
    Ha M.

Love August Moon. Love the lady that takes the phone orders. Love the delivery guy. My department orders from August Moon once a month and we call to make an order at 10:45am. We get our food by 11:45. Food is always fresh, no complaints. Our go to is lunch special general tso chicken, sweet n sour chicken, lemon grass chicken and boneless chicken. Their grilled pork vermicelli and lemon grass shrimp substitute fried rice for vermicelli are also delicious! We like the different substitutions if you didn't want the eggroll. Definitely recommend

Garlic tofu lunch special with egg fried rice and spring roll.

I've been depressed about the quality of Chinese food in this city ever since moving here many years ago. Having grown up in Chicago, where there is a real Chinatown and so much authentic Chinese cuisine, I feel sad every time I eat Chinese food here. But as a vegetarian, I noticed this place had dishes that are hard to find here, like Sezchuan eggplant, gai lan, and stir-fried string beans. Unfortunately, they don't deliver outside of Uptown. But I noticed they run lunch specials, so I decided to drive over. The place isn't fancy, and it's not very clean, either. It's very basic - that's the only way I can describe it without being rude. But I was more interested in the food than the ambience. I ended up getting a garlic tofu lunch special that came with egg, fried rice and egg drop soup. They are very flexible with doing substitutions for vegans or vegetarians, btw. The soup was great. The vegetarian egg roll was just okay. But the tofu came with vegetables and was outstanding. Very rich and a little heat. They cook their tofu right. It's tender instead of tough. The egg fried rice was really good (you can get white or brown, though). I also needed to try the string beans, which is one of my favorite dishes. It was really delicious here. I would have preferred both dishes a little more spicy, but I did not request spicy. Maybe next time. Oh - the food came out in less than 5 minutes. I don't know how they did that. These aren't the most popular dishes that you can just have pre-made. Whoever they have in the kitchen is extremely fast! Well nothing here can compare to the Chinese food back home, I'll probably continue to drive out to August Moon to try my way through their vegetarian dishes. It's a bit of a drive for a pickup, so I wish they'd develop a larger delivery zone. They're not on Uber or Door Dash.

Stupid expensive for basic American Chinese lunch. $26 for a small Gen Tsao (sp?) with an egg roll + drink - but it was Lundi Gras, and you eat where you can walk once you're at your spot. It wasn't bad tasting, but nothing to ever go back for. Tiny crab Rangoon for $7/4pc. Seriously? At least it was warm? I should have planned better and packed a hamper, but its carnival and ain't nobody got time for that. I didn't take a photo of the food, so here's a parade pic...

They offer lunch special for 12.95-14.95. I ordered the Moo go gain pan with shrimp, white rice and egg roll. Everything was delish. The sauce was light. The egg roll nice and crunchy! Very good! Service good. And the atmosphere as expected....clean and typical Chinese restaurant. I'd come back.

L06. General Tao's Chicken Lunch Special

$16 plate & this is what you get . 1 scoop Shrimp fried rice (2 shrimp in the rice) & general chicken only 5 little pieces very hard pieces of chicken. No way. Also the website says $12 minimum delivery fee, they would not deliver my order because according to the order taker it has to be $15 minimum before taxes.

This is a Chinese & Vietnamese Restaurant with some Thai dishes. I tend to get the lunch and dinner specials here or the pho. The food here has improved somewhat over the years and these days it can usually be pretty good but sometimes they seem to drop the ball and it is less than good. They used to have some of the most expensive pho in the area but the other places serving pho seem to have raised their prices to around the same level as here. Most of the time these days the other dishes I've had here have been decent for the most part. They seem to give decent portion sizes (although the portions seem to have shrunk a bit from pre-pandemic days) and the service has always been good. The location of this restaurant is very convenient to where I live and is the nearest place to get my pho fix. Overall this is usually a decent spot to grab a quick meal and currently they are giving out more greens with their pho than any of the other Vietnamese spots in the city.

    Vietnamese chicken salad. Tastly!

Came here the other day for lunch. I have a friend receiving treatment at Touro Hospital, just a block away, so I walked over here to get some food. I had the egg drop soup and the Vietnamese chicken salad. The egg drop soup was as good as I have had elsewhere. The chicken salad was good but unusual as it had a lot of celery. Food was ready promptly and easy to call in over the phone. The vast majority of their lunch business is takeout! And they are efficient at it. Recommended. They seem to do the basics without issues at pretty good prices -- nothing special but nothing to complain about either!!!! Very convenient for take out to Touro.

Consistency is the name of the game. There's nothing fancy here. Just tried and true recipes. If you're sensitive to salty food, this might not be the place for you. I find all the food here a bit on the salty side. However, that not really a bad thing unless you're sensitive to it. Overall it's an average Chinese food spot.

I'm alway looking for a good vermicelli noodle salad or bowl. August Moon hit the spot. Complimented with a tasty fish sauce it was just the response I needed to my regular dental check up. A tall glass of limeade and I was set for the day. It's an unsuspecting spot but the Deco is nice, the bar is full and the menu has enough items to keep you coming back for more. Awesome lunch spot or Vietnamese craving place. Plus it's reasonably priced.

I don't eat a ton of Chinese takeout because I haunt various local Asian markets and buy and cook the stuff myself. But a small cooking accident and a burned hand lead me to order out at this South Chinese/Vietnamese place, and I was pretty satisfied with the result. My order was hot and freshly ready in just under ten minutes; I barely had time to hit an ATM around the corner. It wasn't super cheap; I paid for two dishes what I would have paid for three at the cheapest of such places, but the portion sizes were such that I'll get 2.5-3 meals anyway, which is about right for the price. And it was respectable American Chinese cuisine, with my Kung Pao dish highlighted by a mix of vegetables and a decent amount of peanuts, and my lemongrass tofu having the option of noodles or rice with a little salad and separate sauce on the side. Nothing world-beating (and if I wanted to, I could get mad at them for their spicy dishes not being particularly hot), but I got a good meal. For some reason it came in styrofoam containers rather than the typical Chinese food cartons, and I was instructed to hold the bag level to avoid spillage; even being cautious, there was still a bit of sauce on the bottom of the bag. If they wanted five stars from me, they could do things like improve those containers or not sneak broccoli into dishes where it isn't listed or offer non-soy vegetarian dishes for variety, but their menu now isn't bad. Their online menu proudly proclaims that the dishes in its vegetarian section are "prepared with vegetarian ingredients", which sounds redundant until you realize that Chinese places can and will sneak in something that isn't. So I appreciate that notification, and will most likely order something else from that menu the next time I decide I want Chinese takeout.

After I was diagnosed with Gluten Intolerance as a foodie I thought my culinary life was over and one of the many, but not only joys, of going to Nola is the food. I was reluctant to go and then a bit later 20 years ago Katrina hit this great city. When I did return my reluctance of going due to my food restrictions was born out, but the fact that the people in New Orleans fry everything, including water. Besides jambalaya and some fresh fish, I couldn't eat anything. However, due to a friend who was born in New Orleans, grew up in New Orleans and lives half of the year there with her family involved in the restaurant business, Pat introduced me for a number of chefs and one in particular, Michael Gulotta, who modified dishes or even made me specially dishes that were gluten free. Every time I went to New Orleans, I tried to go to his two Vietnamese Cajun restaurants, MoPho and Maypop. Michael Gulotta, chef-owner at Mopho and Maypop was born and raised in New Orleans. Michael began cooking in local restaurants at a young age. After graduating from the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute, he joined the newly opened Restaurant August. Gulotta then took leave to train in the Italian Riviera and Germany's Black Forest. When Hurricane Katrina hit, Michael returned home to help rebuild and assist with August's re-opening. He was named chef de cuisine in 2007 and led the award-winning kitchen for six years, while establishing relationships with local farmers and purveyors. He opened his first restaurant, MOPHO, in January of 2014 with his brother, Jeffrey Gulotta, and high-school friend, Jeffrey Bybee. Located in New Orleans' Mid City, MOPHO was a true neighborhood restaurant and a destination for Southeast Asian inspired cuisine utilizing the Louisiana pantry. In its first year MOPHO was nominated for America's Best New Restaurant by Bon Appétit magazine and named Restaurant of the Year by New Orleans Magazine. In 2016 Michael was named one of Top 30 Chefs to Watch in the nation by Plate Magazine, A New Orleans Rising Star by Starchefs, a Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine, and Chef of the Year by New Orleans Magazine. In 2017, his team opened its second full-service restaurant, Maypop, in the Central Business District of New Orleans. Maypop was named a Top 5 Best New Restaurant by The Times Picayune, A Best New Restaurant by New Orleans Magazine, a New Orleans Top 20 Restaurants by Condé Nast Traveler, and a New Orleans' Top Ten Restaurants for 2019, by Brett Anderson. Michael has also been a semifinalist for The James Beard Awards Best Chef South for the past four years. Most recently, his team opened a second MOPHO location in the new Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. On my trip to New Orleans this past May, I was saddened to learn that Michael was closing MoPho and Maypop, casualties of the so difficult business of owning a restaurant I know all too well. After JazzFest one evening on MoPho's second to last day, Pat and I went to pay our respects and I got to thank Michael for his kindness showing me there was culinary life after my diagnosis not only at his restaurant but when he catered the main stage at JazzFest, but he also introduced me to more fusion possibilities which I have incorporated in some of the food I make. On the last day of Maypop, my brother Jeff and I dined at Maypop, Michael's more upscale joint which served delicious food and not to be undone, after both closed on that Sunday in May, I saw the MoPho at the airport right in front of my terminal to fly home and I got the greatest wings on the planet to fly home with: CRISPY CHICKEN WINGS WITH NUOC MAM CARAMEL. I have no idea what exactly that is except Cajun chicken spices with a Vietnamese caramel sauce that is unparalleled in it's flavor, bite and marriage of cultures that was so good Pat would always ask for more on the side. I'm sure Michael will get back in the game at some point but I write this with gratitude to Pat for introducing me to this great Chef and to Chef Gulotta for taking the time to show me what I could eat and what modifications he could make to his food for me.

Coming to the restaurant, you do have to time it right, as it closes at 7 which makes it not an option if you want a later dinner. Lunch or early dinner it is. The system here is counter service, then take a number and a tray and seat yourself. Food comes out pretty quickly, there were few other customers there at the time when I went in the early evening, and my appetizer came out within a few minutes, and my pho came out within ten minutes. I had a half order of the spring rolls with shrimp and pork, and a beef combo pho. The spring rolls were wrapped very well, with great structural integrity that made them easy to eat and dip. However, the pork was really dry and tough, and the only reason it didn't ruin the texture of the whole thing is because the pork slices were quite thin. The shrimp was fresh but also sliced quite thin to the point where it was almost not even noticeable. The wrapper was quite thick and felt like it had been left out for a while, so it was quite dry. The pho was good, but the meats were overall quite chewy and tough, and there was significantly less meat than I would expect for an extra large order. They also were pretty stingy with the herbs. I am used to there being a fair amount of onion, scallion, and cilantro in pho, and here it was like they finger-pinched the herbs in rather than grabbing a handful.
