Shengjian bao. Basically no soup inside but tasty
    Nathaniel L.

This is a Chinese restaurant on the same floor as Umi Sushi & Lounge. When you walk to the dining area to be seated, you pass the sushi bar and a "lounge" area (i.e., a sofa and a TV). During the day, you can see their menu in the front, but at night, they move it back indoors. I normally don't visit places like this, but I was drawn in because the menu outside said they had shengjian baos, which was my favorite food-related discovery in 2019. I asked Ms. Liu if they had soup in them, as many don't, and she replied "yes, yes, the ones without soup don't taste as good." So far so good. Ms. Liu handled three tables on her own. She was pleasant to interact with, and has a very unique laugh that seems to accompany genuine interest in what you're saying. I'm unsure about whether she can speak English, but the menus had sufficient English translations right next to Chinese characters. She brought out some tea and then the vine pepper chicken. Absolutely delicious, but had the problem of having a ton of bone shards which I'm not a fan of. The sauce goes very well with rice. Then the shengjianbaos came out 10 minutes later. They were also tasty, but didn't have any soup in them. Normally I'd be pissed off for being misled, but both dishes were still very well prepared, so I was surprisingly not as upset as I thought I'd be. The food was just that good. My quest for better shengjian bao places continues, but I found a decent hole in the wall that deserves some love. 3.5

This place is very popular in the Chinese social media. A lot of people recommended it. I came here on a Friday night. I thought there was no chance to get a table. Surprisingly they took our order over the phone and told us to come. We arrived and they put us at the table in the bar which is outside of the restaurant. I don't mind. We already ordered the food over the phone. We got fish, chicken, duck and eggplant. Nothing is impressive. Not sure why people like it. Maybe they haven't tried the real Szechuan food? Food is not spicy. The duck is over cooked. The fish is steamed and has no taste. The chicken is good, very juicy but it's not spicy. The eggplant is too oily and not spicy at all. I would not recommend. In addition, according to the menu, you get free soup dumplings and free dessert if you order over $60. But they said no more.

The portion size is quite large. The taste is good. It takes a bus from the Main Street to there. Reservation is better to order some dishes. The tip calculation is based on original price rather than the discounted price, which is quite ridiculous. So please be aware of the trick.

Owner very nice lady. Free edamame while waiting. Very authentic and spicy. Restaurant is clean. We ordered tons of food and took out many too. Wouldn't give clean chopsticks while we were putting leftover food into containers ourselves to take away though, insisted that we use our own dirty chopsticks.... Still great experience overall! Huge portions.

Fish was not clean well, lots of the fish scales, flavor was terrible. And All of us had DIARRHEA after ate here!!

We are very familiar with the area and must have walked passed this neatly tucked away gem without ever noticing it. Our son had mentioned that he and his friends have been going to a sushi place near Asian Jewel, our former dim sum go to place. When we sat down to order, my wife and I were quite impressed by how clean and cozy the restaurant was. Kind of on the small side with a few tables on the ground floor level. The menu offered cooked food as well as fresh sushi. We decided to start with the sushi & sashimi combo. They also offered a sushi or sashimi a la carte menu where you can choose to order by the piece. I believe that if you choose one of their standard menu sushi or sashimi orders and pay with cash, the a la carte price per piece of sushi / sashimi is only $1.35 / piece! Well we were famished and in addition to the sushi & sashimi plate we ordered two rounds of sushi & sashimi a la carte. Their salmon and yellow tail was so fresh and so scrumptious as was the sweet shrimp. The tuna was also very yummy and did not disappoint! When all was said and done we were quite happy with our experience with Yoi Sushi Japanese. I highly recommend Yoi if you're anywhere near Tangram Mall or Asian Jewel and have a hankering for yummy sushi. They also offer cooked food as well as ramen bowls.

The shrimp tempura roll has the perfect amount of breading and the salmon tastes fresh! The interior is clean and I love the decor. I believe they have an upstairs seating area too. The staff is also very friendly.

There were yellowtail, eel and California rolls. Yellowtail was my favorite. They also had a crab salad with imitation crab and was a kick from siracha. It was three oysters, similar to Crown Shy except I wasn't a huge fan of the flavoring here. The nigiri sauce didn't really elevate the flavor of the oysters much as they're already a slightly salty food and a soy sauce sort of just added more salt to it. I think a bit more kick was needed to enhance the flavor profile. The handroll set was pretty good, I liked the spicy tuna the best, then the salmon and then the yellowtail the least. In order, I'd probably give the spicy tuna a 9/10, salmon 8/10 and yellowtail 7/10. However, the tiramisu was fantastic, one of the best tiramisus I have had, creamy, good notes of coffee flavor and wasn't overly sweet. Our server was also very friendly, she showed us how to properly eat the handrolls which was nice. The place also has a nice vibe to it, very relaxing and not too loud or overly grand.

It is $165 for a 13 course - it also comes with appetizer and dessert as well. The place is located inside Siam Thai - behind a bookshelf, the vibes are immaculate back there. The chief was so friendly and took his time to explain each dish to us and also took time to chat with us which I thought was really nice especially since I have mainly been to "fast casual" omakase locations recently where they don't really chat with you. There was a good variety of appetizers, fish and dessert. The appetizer options were so unique and the platting was so pretty. The fish options were also very plentiful and I liked the topping that they put on top of each one, the rich was not as warm and soft as I would usually like it but they paired well with the fish. The portion sizes were also pretty large which I thought was nice especially since we were paying about $165 a person. If you are getting sake, they do let you sample the sake before opening the whole bottle. The presentation of the opened sake was also so fancy. Overall - if you want a more traditional omakase experience, I highly recommend checking this place out. The vibes are immaculate and you will have a good time chatting with the chef while enjoying your food!

Service did match up to the price tag and we were treated well but the fish quality was very mediocre. Some pieces were overly warm and did not taste that fresh. The rice was often falling apart. There were the basic chutoro, salmon, otoro fish but no other fish was unique. There were only 13 courses and it felt that they were reusing ingredients because we had uni and caviar multiple times. One dish was uni, caviar, and white rice which felt like a cop out considering uni was a separate course. I did not need uni 3/13 courses provided as someone who enjoys uni. This place is comparative to those $60-70 omakase but not reflective of $165. I went to Shota Omakase for $195 and the fish quality and selection were more diverse.

An Unforgettable Omakase Experience!…read more We celebrated the 4th of July with an incredible omakase dinner at Masaki, and it exceeded every expectation. Every course was beautifully presented, impeccably fresh, and perfectly balanced. From the delicate Red Sea Bream and buttery Scallop to the luxurious Toro with Caviar, Sweet Shrimp with Uni, and the unforgettable Eel with Foie Gras, each bite was a masterpiece. What truly elevated the evening was Michael, our sushi chef. He was warm, engaging, and exceptionally knowledgeable. He took the time to explain every course, the origin of the fish, the flavors, and the best way to enjoy each piece. His passion for his craft was evident, and his attention to detail made the entire experience feel personal and memorable. Dining at the sushi bar gave us a front-row seat to watch the artistry behind every piece. The quality of the ingredients, the precision of the preparation, and the genuine hospitality made this one of the finest omakase experiences we've ever had. Thank you, Michael, and the entire Masaki team, for making our holiday celebration so special. We can't wait to return for another unforgettable evening!
