I typically don't like to post reviews unless they're mostly positive, but I'm updating my review after a less than ideal date night here... I'd give 3.5 stars if that was an option, but it's not, so I'm dropping my previous rating of 4 stars to 3 stars. I'll start with one positive, which was the food. It was tasty, cooked well, and we didn't have any errors with our food orders. We eat out often enough to acknowledge that is a good thing that doesn't always happen. If you enjoy pasta, I definitely recommend the fresh fettuccine as it was excellent! It was an extra $2 per dish for it, but i think it was worth it. The cheese bread appetizer was also a tasty start to the meal. The struggle in our experience was that the service was painfully slow. We know service workers bust their buns to earn a living, so we always try to be patient, kind, and tip well. The staff we interacted with were very friendly, but for most of our dining experience, it felt like we had been forgotten. In their defense, it did get busy part way through us being there, but that feeling of being forgotten was compounded when the table who was seated after us got their appetizers before we even got our first drink. We ordered a beer when we ordered our food, and it showed up after the appetizer. We then ordered a second beer during our meal, but it came after we were already done eating. It took so long to arrive that my boyfriend actually stood up to try and find someone to cancel it. Unfortunately, the server eventually showed up with the second beer, so to not make them waste it, he drank it while I packed up the leftovers. I also had to drink some of his water as they never refilled mine the entire time. The main SAVING GRACE of our experience was their youngest server, Constadina, but she says she goes by Costi! She was the cutest little thing and very sweet. She asked the chef a menu question to check on a dietary restriction I have and promptly came back with a response. She was too young to legally serve our beers, but she checked with other staff to help us and even followed up more than once to see that we eventually got our drinks. I don't think she was technically our server, but she helped us a few times during our visit, and she salvaged the experience for us. I'm hoping they were just having an off night or were short staffed, but I want my review honest in the event this is their norm during dinner service. To be honest, we likely won't be dining in here again any time soon. However, the food was good, so we may order take-out as an alternative in the future... read more

I had heard many good things about Auntie Pasto's from years ago till current, it's been around a while and I finally got to try it. I would describe Auntie Pasto's as being close to a Spaghetti Factory type atmosphere - comforting. The one thing I noticed though is the amount of protein in the pasta dishes is terribly small. The escargot in the garlic-infused sauce had just the right amount of chewiness, and I think it was a great appetizer. Auntie Pasto's is a small spot I discovered near my workplace. Friendly and quick service. First time I came here I had the Pesto Pasta with Shrimp. Yum, it was so filling. You definitely get a lot for what you pay for. I also got the Mozzarella stuffed bread thing. I forgot what it was called but it was so good. I'll attach a picture. Walking makai into town on Pensacola St I saw this play on words Italian eatery "Auntie Pasto's". Very clever. I decided to give it a go cause I was snackish and felt like an antipasto would do it. Upon entering I was greeted by the staff and promptly seated. The decor and ambiance matches perfectly to what you want in a family owned Italian restaurant. The staff is very nice and attentive. Very friendly. Unfortunately when I opened the menu there were virtually no traditional antipastos. No charcuterie, no cheeses, no prosciutto, no olives, I could go on and on. (They did have a caprese salad). After the menu, I was delivered a nice warm Italian roll with a nice olive oil pesto and a glass of water. After being disappointed with the menu options I selected the sizzling steak, onion and pepper appetizer and a glass of the house red. I was hoping for a nice red slightly charred on the edges medium rare steak would pair nicely with the house Cabernet. To my disappointment what was delivered was very grey strips of flavorless meat with an over abundance of onions. They steak was chewy and the only flavor was of the lemon juice and red pepper flakes that it appeared to be marinated in. It was almost as if the steak's original destiny was to be a pizza topping. This review is of this one dish only. And I have high hopes for their pizza menu because the restaurant, the staff and the location have great potential. I have passed this place for many many years on the way to Makiki Christian Church and then on my way to PD Technologies, but have never tried it! I am glad I did and it was decently tasty. They have a great rotating daily special for $8.95, more than half off than menu price for some days. We went on a Tuesday so my dad got bolognese penne and liked it. I love eggplant and gorgonzola so had to try that dish. While I like them separately, I didn't feel the cheese complemented, but rather clashed with the acidic marinara. The eggplant was thick and freshly fried, and I had to order it with the upgrade of fresh fettucini. The fresh pasta was amazing but the sauce was just a bit too sharp for the tender noodles. We asked for bread which they brought reluctantly which seemed like sandwich rolls toasted and came with oil and butter. Light and toasty. My mom got carbonara which was bland and very watery. While I appreciate the availability of the fresh pasta upgrade, the dishes didn't wow me for the price (most $20 and up). It was not bad enough that I won't go back, but I might give it one more chance and if it still doesn't wow me, then I will put it on the pass list. My first time trying it here and it was great!!! The atmosphere and the service was amazing! We were a party of 7 and we were served by the sweetest lady!! I forgot her name :-( but she was so kind to us and checked in with us from time to time! On 2/25/2021, Oahu finally entered Tier 3, which meant parties at restaurants can also have 10 people and there are no capacity limits as long as eateries still enforce social distancing rules. We happened to be driving down Pensacola Street late Saturday afternoon when we passed Auntie Pasto's and remarked it had been a long time since we last went. There was ample street parking (which is rare) so we parked and my husband ran up to see if we would be able to dine in. Got the and we headed over. There was only one other table seated when we went in, and we were seated against the far wall, pretty much on the other side of the restaurant. While we were there, a few other tables were seated, but staff was very on top of making sure the groups were socially distanced properly. It was so nice to see extended families finally being able to dine in together. After looking over the menu on the wall and under the plexiglass on the tables, we decided on the following: *Rib Eye Steak - 14 oz Angus fired to order and served with seasonal grilled vegetables and a chunk of herbed butter ($32); option to add pasta for $2 more available. My husband was craving steak suddenly, so luckily he had the option to get one here. The rib eye was a little more medium than medium-rare, but the garlic butter made up for it. *Chicken Parmesan - 2 nice sized pieces of chicken breast breaded and fried up crispy with spaghetti and marinara sauce ($19). This is the kids usual go-to... and the serving size was large enough for my daughter to take home one of the chicken pieces and some pasta for lunch the next day! * Eggplant Parmesan - 4 thick slices of round eggplant breaded and fried up crispy with angel hair pasta and marinara sauce ($18). It was so good, I was so tempted to eat the entire dish, but decided to save half for lunch the next day too. *Meatballs on spaghetti - 3 nice sized meatballs served with spaghetti and marinara sauce ($16). My son wanted something "different", and chose this dish. It was probably a little smaller than he expected, but Dad shared his steak so it was all good. *House bread - 2 piping hot fresh from the oven complimentary mini loaves served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, extra loaves available for $1 each One of our favorite items (Red Pepper Calamari ) unfortunately wasn't available, so that just means we will have to visit again. Safety features Auntie Pastos has in place are the interior surfaces are frequently sanitized, social distancing in between tables is enforced, and of course the employees are gloved and masked up. Wow! Just wow. So glad we found this place. Such flavorful food. Not cheesy and so well made. The eggplant parmesan is a must try. We took it with penne. We also requested for homemade gnocchi to be made in Creamy pesto and they gladly obliged. The gnocchi and the pesto both were gems. They provide homemade bread with basil garlic olive oil. It tastes great. Cheesy garlic bread with marinara was so fresh. The service was very attentive and accommodating. The ambiance is of an authentic Italian place. We have passed by this unpresumptuous looking establishment multiple times on the corner of Pensacola and Beretania, and wondered if it was any good. Last night, a long time friend suggested we go, because he had not been there in years. We were not disappointed. There were relatively few patrons early on a Sunday evening. Service was prompt, friendly, and helpful. My vegetarian spouse ordered fettuccine with pesto sauce. The server preemptively asked if my spouse wanted the included cream sauce, which was gratefully declined. Our friend ordered the carbonara. Those dishes were found to be very good. I ordered chicken cacciatore with penne and found it to be excellent. The marinara sauce was obviously homemade, richly flavored, and better than I have had in years. The chef came out and asked about our meal. We had a brief chat, expressing our thanks for an excellent meal. Overall, it was a very good experience, and we will go back. Our only critical comment would be that it would be nice to have some specific vegetarian options mentioned or labeled as such on the menu. Came here with my husband and in-laws for a Friday night dinner. Everyone was happy with their meal and the service was great. My fresh fettuccine pesto pasta was so delicious I'll definitely be craving it in the near future but I want to order my mother in law's fish piccata first next time I visit. My husband ordered cheese pizza with sausage and was surprised by the type of sausage they use but he still enjoyed it. They used what reminds me of polish sausage rather than Italian sausage. So heads up for anyone who is expecting traditional Italian sausage. Auntie Pasto's has been our go to place on Friday evenings after the kids finish their sport activities. We love that it's always good food, excellent service and never a wait to get a table. The staff is always so sweet and has remembered us each time we come back for more, which is awesome customer service and makes the experience that much more enjoyable. Our fan favorites so far, but trust me when we say, we will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Appetizers: We love the CHEESE BREAD which had just the amount of cheese and a balance of garlic. Our first time dining here. My friend/former colleague who was a chef at the hotel I work at owns this restaurant along with his wife. Nice atmosphere and location. My brother's family and I dined here for lunch, and my chef/friend took great care of us. I always wanted to dine here and finally had the chance. I'm not a professional food critic nor do I belong in the kitchen, I'm just a customer looking to eat good food. Well Auntie Pasto's does just that! Overall we enjoyed dining here. We started off with sweetened iced tea along with garlic and cheese breads. We enjoyed our stuffed mushrooms covered with cheese. My brother had the meatball pasta and although the meatballs were a bit overcooked to his liking he did enjoy his meal. My niece had the pizza which she enjoyed. My sister in law's chicken piccata was also good except the chicken was a bit dry. My fish piccata was very good and the fish was moist. What I liked about my dish was that it had a lot of the butter caper sauce, and I like a lot of sauce with my pasta. I had to try their homemade tiramisu and it was delicious. We were immediately greeted when we walked in and got seated quickly. The ambiance is very cozy inside and everything is very clean. The service was very good, we were constantly checked in on by multiple parties but not excessively so where we felt overwhelmed. Oh god The food though, I have been craving freshly made noodles and real meatballs for the longest time and they definitely delivered, their meatball pasta was delicious. The line would be around the corner most nights....they must have changed owners or chefs...ordered take out...Clam pasta, chicken fettuccine and pepperoni pizza....The "fresh"clam pasta literally had 6 empty clam shells on top and hardly any clam mixed in and cost like 20 bucks. We made reservations for 6pm and found a parking space across the street. The food was very good, and follow the manus on the table because the big board on the wall isn't updated. Service was excellent! The escargot was a little overcooked for my taste, but the eggplant parmigiana was excellent!
