When I moved to Oak Hill 10 years ago I asked around to find a good, trustworthy mechanic and was directed here. I have never, ever been disappointed with Gary and his crew. I have an older truck and he and Jarrett have kept it mechanically immaculate for years. As Ted F mentions in his review, Gary will not only tell you what he found but will give you multiple options - occasionally even that something doesn't NEED to be done right then. I've never had him try to sell me something I didn't need. They will also take the time to explain not only what is going on but how things work and he does it in a way that doesn't make me feel like a stupid woman driver. You know that feeling you get when you recommend someone to a friend and they have a bad experience? You WON'T have that issue with Austin Auto Repair. My father has worked on his own (and other people's) cars in another state for years on the side. He has seen the quality work Gary's team does when he's come to visit. I was planning on taking a road trip and was needing to have my a/c repaired prior to going. AAR repaired it but then a week later there was an issue with it so I took it back. The following week, just before I left, there was another problem so I took it back to them again. Not only did they keep trying to tackle the exact problem that was causing it to go out but they were kind and professional about it and never charged me an extra dime for their time. I had to write about Austin Auto Repair, because I experienced a degree of honesty from the owner I have seldom experienced with any business and I have never experienced anything remotely like this in auto repair. My car was towed there as it would not start and the battery could not be charged and I saw the shop had an "A" rating on the list. I thought the problem might be the battery cable, but the fairly young tech at the shop told me it was the starter. My car had 130,000 miles on it and I talked to several knowledgeable people who agreed that this was most likely the problem. The starter was replaced. I went on my way happily and had no problems. I checked my mail today. Apparently, the owner, in some review of the paperwork noticed that the master tech thought it was the battery cable and that it didn't need a starter. Both had been replaced and I had paid for both along with a complete check of the electrical system. Today, the owner sent a letter explaining what happened, an apology and a check for $400. Unbelievable! I never would have known of the error! In the future, this is the ONLY auto repair shop that I will do business with. This degree of honesty is something I had long ago learned not to expect. I am still just "wowed." Amazing company! read more

We felt like they did a good job for us. They replaced one fuel injector, after we got it back the same thing happened again. They took it right back and replaced another. The problem was it functioned well until the engine warmed up. Now it is working well and gets better gas mileage. read more

It is challenging to find a trustworthy mechanic when I move to a new city. While I do most of my own maintenance and as many repairs that I can, sometimes I need a professional. This was the case when the a/c compressor clutch failed on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee. To replace the compressor, a certified professional must discharge the a/c system in compliance with environmental laws. Living in Austin for three years without a mechanic, I had no idea whom to call, so I turned to the internet and read reviews. The first mechanic I called wanted to charge $95 to diagnosis the a/c system, despite the fact that I told him I had identified the problem. Next I called Austin Auto Repair. Gary respectfully listened to what I had to say, asked clarifying questions, and we discussed a game plan. I had my Jeep towed to his shop and within a few hours I received a call with the repair price (right in line with what I expected!) and a turnaround time of "tomorrow or Monday." My Jeep was repaired within 24 hours, at the price quoted, and it is running great. I am indeed Austin Auto Repair's "next satisfied customer" and will return when my Jeep needs future repairs! read more
