Just dropped my car off at Austin Auto Techs. The owner Hugh gave me a ride back to my office. They treat customers like family over there. He said that that is the philosophy they try to instill in their staff. Told him about a time when I first moved to Austin and needed a place to take my old Honda for a 100K job. The guy at Austin Auto Techs spent the time to educate me on ways I could save money on the job. I told Hugh that that experience was so different from anything I had experienced at a car shop before. You would expect them to want NOT to educate you and then charge as much as they can. Your auto technician is like a doctor. They tell you what's wrong and how much it will cost to fix. The difference with these guys is that you can trust them. They are looking out for your interests. And that gives me the peace of mind that I am getting the best service I can. Even though my office moved and it's now a bit inconvenient for me to go there, I will continue to because trust isn't something that you can go out and buy. read more

I brought my car in to Austin Auto Techs for the first time to check the brakes and recharge the air conditioner. Turns out my brakes are fine, and my A/C needed a good bit of Freon. But additionally, my windshield wipers needed replacing (I had no idea that's why they made a clicking sound; I thought it was internal) and they also found two other problems that I will add to my future repair list. I like knowing how urgent a given repair is, and how much it will cost so I can plan for it. I think AAT did a great job and were reasonably priced. They didn't talk down to me or try to up sell me on things I didn't need to fix. I'm one happy girl. Thanks! read more

I have rarely written Yelp reviews before, because I have never felt the need. However, once I realized that Auto Techs was being reviewed, I realized that I should do so. You will not find in the Austin area a more honest, reputable, or reliable auto repair service than Auto Techs. We have had our cars maintained and repaired there for 15 years (and before that, by Hugh and Brian elsewhere), and we have always had excellent service. The handful (and I do mean one handful) of times we have had a problem after service, they have always resolved it to our complete satisfaction. What you get from Auto Techs is the old-fashioned kind of service which can be hard to find these days. I do not know if they are the cheapest, but I do know they are the best. read more

So a couple months ago, right when we started hitting the 100 degree temps and people were frying eggs on the sidewalks, the A/C in my car stopped blowing cold air. I searched for A/C repair close to my job on Yelp and found this amazing place. I made the call and brought my car in first thing in the morning the next day. They called back within a couple hours and described the problem in great detail and gave me the exact cost of the fix. Luckily it wasn't a hella expensive problem, so I gave them the go ahead and they had it all done about 10 minutes after I got out of work that day. The guy I dealt with was extremely professional and had very good people skills, something which a lot of auto repair guys seem to lack. They even give you a free coffee mug! If I could give ten stars I would for their sincerity, rapid work, and accommodating service. They are very flexible in drop off, pick up and payment - even over the phone if we're out of town. Never once did I feel cheated as a girl. Our original estimate from them was over $500 to fix the ignition and they tried very hard not to buy another part, to work with what they had to make the car run again. I've only been to Auto Techs once but I'm very satisfied with the work they did! I needed my engine mounts replaced and when I called for a quote the person I talked was very helpful looking it up and calling me back quickly. I called on a Friday and was able to get an appointment Monday morning. I thought I needed all three mounts replaced but it turned out I only needed 2. That and the 10% discount for mentioning I found them on Yelp saved me a lot of money. I'm glad to have found an alternative to the Mazda dealership! read more

Sounds like I am preaching to the choir with all of the other positive reviews here, but I had to throw my 2 cents in. I've been taking our cars here for a couple years now. I was sick of having issues soon after taking cars to 10-minute oil change places and was looking for someone more reliable. All I can say is thank goodness for great businesses like these guys. My wife's car has had major issues (no more Jeeps in this house!). Before we were married she was burning through money with another mechanic who couldn't figure out or didn't care to find out what was wrong with various issues. Austin Auto Techs has had her car running smoothly for very decent prices. Here is a great example: The last issue with our car was a AC unit that was leaking water onto the floorboard on the passenger side. After a failed attempt to just blow air through to clear the drain pipe (the usual issue in times like this), the guys quoted me a price of $800 and a day and a half of labor to pull out the dashboard and re-seal all of the parts where the AC met the firewall. Yikes! But we figured we had no other choice. After a day and a half of waiting they called right on time, but said that they had found a solution that wouldn't cost any money at all! Granted, this solution sounded a little like they were using string and duct tape (not that bad, but probably not something a dealer would recommend either), but it appears to have been working well so far. This was probably not the best fix for Austin Auto Tech's bottom line, but it was for their customer's. They went above and beyond to save us money. Who does that anymore? I gladly drive from Round Rock past dozens of other auto mechanics to bring our cars here. The only thing I would warn others about is to make sure you call before you bring your car in. I brought a car in once without calling and they seemed a little flustered trying to fit it into their schedule. read more

I love this place. When I first moved to Austin, a little over a year ago, I knew it would be difficult to find a car repair shop that could be trusted. I have had my share of bad experiences at places like Midas, Firestone, etc. I found Austin Auto Techs doing a search online of places near where I lived since I did not want to rely on others to get around and such. The employees here are very friendly and honest. I love the fact they can email me a price breakdown quote of the repairs before I commit. I never feel pressured to get the services done at this shop. Once I had to drop my car off here late at night so I left a note and dropped my keys in the box. The next morning they called and said they would take a look at it and it did not seem like an issue or a big deal. This is my repair shop of choice and I love how they always offer me a mug each time. I didn't think honest repair shops and mechanics existed until I discovered Austin Auto Techs. read more

Great little neighborhood mechanic shop. My four experiences with them have been straightforward, trustworthy, and completely reasonable. I actually cannot imagine taking my 11+ car anywhere else for fear of constantly being told it needs things done to it. Recently, they repaired a brake light connection, and when the problem resumed a week later they took the blame for not getting it right the first time, fixed it (permanently) and did not charge me. ...and you know you've hit a true Austin establishment when you are waiting in the lobby and out trots a tiny miniature pony from the back room [not even kidding - it was one of those can't-believe-my-eyes moments when I was picking up my car and a waiting room customer had a miniature pony they were babysitting for a friend!] read more

I came for my appointment and waited in a nice clean waiting room. They were thorough and polite. I liked that they didn't try to sell me any unnecessary crap and they got the job done well. Very reasonably priced - never feel that I have been overcharged. Very honest - often tell me that things I want to do on the car are not needed and would be a waste of money. Went here once before and they fixed an issue with my passenger side door lock. Came back in because a band on the same door panel had stopped working and the door wouldn't open. The issue was likely not due to the previous installation, however they went ahead and referenced their warranty on the previous installation and fixed it no charge. This is extremely rare for auto repair companies especially comping the labor component. Definitely will have all future business for me and my truck, guaranteed. read more

I had them change out my oil pan on my F-250, because Jiffy Lube cross threaded the plug, and haven't had a leak since. The problem is I just found out they used a Honda oil pan plug instead of the Ford OEM plug which should have come with the parts I paid for. Not a huge deal since it's not leaking but it shows they take shortcuts read more

He attempted to contact me only once, and it was via a message here on Yelp. I chose not to respond because I have nothing to say. I had two poor experiences and I don't trust his business, period. Nothing is going to change my opinion or win me back as a customer, especially at this point two years later. Secondly, I did review my invoices. I always do. Not sure what that has to do with anything. Ultimately I feel like this is not professional on Hugh and Brian's behalf, to essentially harass and point fingers at their own customers who had a poor experience. So glad I called around for quotes..dealer quote for 60K service 799.00...Austin Auto Tech quote - 200.00..they recommended a automatic transmission fluid change and a tire change...they suggested I got a to a discount tire store because it would be cheaper to get the tire replaced there. The best car repair experience ever! These guys know how it's done. Brought in my car and it was done the same day. I had an oil leak that created smoke under the hood and a leaking radiator hose, in addition to this they had replaced the air filter and changed my oil. All of this was done on a 1996 Nissan and the price was really reasonable. They have me as a customer from now on. read more

This place is freakin' wonderful. I made an appointment for noon to get my oil changed and they were fast (only waited 30 minutes) and best of all it only cost $35!! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the bill. Also I had hit a raccoon the night before which kind of made my bumper pop out of place. WELL the guy saw it as an easy fix and just popped it right back into place for free! He didn't even tell me about it, I literally noticed and had to walk back in just to thank him. Just great. My AC was blowing hot and cold. Took it in and they looked at it, told me the compressor and coil needed to be replaced because the clutch wasn't engaging and it would cost $1,500. I don't know much about cars, but it seemed unlikely it would blow cold at all if the compressor wasn't working (which a little research confirmed). I told them not to do the work and picked up the car. I asked about it blowing cold and asked about the possibility of a refurbished compressor. The gentleman there didn't know, but said he would have the tech call me. I never heard back. When I took the car to the dealership for a second opinion, they told me I had a bad relay, but the compressor was fine. Total cost: $150. I'm not sure if they are just dishonest, incompetent or were having a bad day, but I cannot recommend them. I've waited a couple of months to cool down before I posted this. The car has been to Wyoming and back and the AC worked like a dream. I'd stay away from here. read more

As a single woman, I am often leery about car repairs, but I completely trust them to take good care of my car without recommending any unnecessary service. It is best if you make an appointment and they are only open during the week but for me it is completely worth it. They are always courteous and on time. While in town visiting family, the AC stopped working in my car. While the motor turned on, no cold air blew through the vents. I took my car in to Austin Auto Techs and they quickly diagnosed and fixed the problem. They replaced a hose and had me out of the shop in a reasonable amount of time and only charged me $57 total.
