I spent AGES trying to find it and when I finally did, the lady assisting me made me feel like I was putting her wayyy out to serve me my cake balls. There are tons of different ball flavors and ball designs and you can choose 4 flavors/dozen. Each dozen is about $25 (a little steep, I know), but if you mention about some mailed-in ad, it subtracts $5. I did not know that, but you should do it. Also there are cupcakes, but cups aren't as fun as balls. Each cakeball is very very dense. You'd think it's a bite-size/fun-size ball, but really, each ball could probably be worth 3 bites. The cake itself is moist and the icing is sweet, but not overpowering sweet. The size is about 50% bigger than the size of a Godiva truffle, so they aren't huge (refer to the previous paragraph about ball density). The pics made me think they were the size of a child's fist, alas, they were not. The location of the place could be better, but the balls of deliciousness will rock your mouth! If you have trouble finding the place, it's the corner office and there's not really a proper sign for the place, but they'll email you the directions I'd rather pay this ~$2/ball than $2.50 for a cupcake from Hey Cupcake. True story. I ordered a dozen of these cake ball thingies and I ate ALL of them by myself. Yep, I'm sure each and every ball has made it's way to some undesirable portion of my body as fat storage. Oh well, it seemed right at the time. They delivered to my door. They were for my husband's birthday...but secretly I knew my husband probably wouldn't go for them. I had a groupon so what the hay (I thought). I got him an ice cream cake too. I ate ALL 12 cake balls. By myself...in less than 5 days. I guess in a way it's a good thing that these balls are a bit expensive and shipping costs would deter me from ordering on a regular basis... Scary thing is that I ordered online, last minute, around 10AM that morning and got them delivered to my door that very same day at 4PM. Great balls. Nice and dense. Lemon was my fave. They freeze well and taste good chilled too. I've never been to the cake-ball-bakery, but their wares were on offer at a wedding that I recently attended. So, I made it my business to sample as many flavors as I could find ... in other words, I had my own, self-guided cake-ball-tasting and the results were as follows: The pumpkin spice was alright. The tiramisu was authentic. And the salted caramel was outta' sight! If this were a dating show, the pumpkin spice would be the girl-next-door and the tiramisu would be a looker. But that salty, little caramel number would be taking home any tall, dark, and handsome fellow that she damn well pleased. So, if you find yourself in a situation where you are forced to choose between cake balls and you can only take one home with you, I'm promising you that the Salty Caramel will make it worth your while. read more

I ordered Austin Cake Balls (formerly called Cake by Bridges) for a wedding shower about a year ago, forgot to review them after. They Fedex'd them overnight to Houston so the cake balls would be fresh, but somehow I had leftovers afterward and they stayed fresh for a week! I worked with Stacey to order, she was very responsive in all our communications, and very helpful when I had questions about servings per person, flavors, etc. I ordered the vanilla bean cake balls with white icing and custom decorations- I just told them it was for a wedding shower and the wedding colors were olive and gold and that I trusted what the bakers would do. And the balls turned out beautiful!!! Almost a shame to eat the balls. But you do anyway :) I took off one star only because they are kind of pricey ($35/dz), but for special occasions they are definitely unique and a special touch. I see now that they have all these fun flavors, like salted caramel and mojito. If any friends get married (or preggo!) soon I am definitely ordering cake balls again!! read more

To be clear, this is my first foray into commercial cake balls as I've only ever had the ones friends make. They were very tasty. I enjoyed the flavor of all of the ones I had. My problem, and the sole reason this can't get over 3 stars, is the price. Honestly, it's out of control. You're paying quite the premium for a niche product and there are equally great tasting dessert options for as little as 1/5th the price. You have the ice cream cake... kinda awesome, except it melts and the cake is too cold. Next you have the cookie cake... basically a cake impostor, he's just a giant cookie who stole cake's icing and showed up to his birthday party. Judging from those attempts, it appears obvious that cake is already perfected and no further attempts could ever improve it. Luckily for the world, Austin Cake Ball has thought the unthinkable and done the impossible: they've improved cake. The ball shape gives you the perfect balance of cake and frosting so every bite is going to be consistent and fantastic. The icing is firm and not smooshy, meaning you can pick them up and eat them with your hands without needing a napkin. The number of flavors they have available is surprisingly diverse. I haven't had them all, but the salted caramel is a definite favorite. All of the ones I tried were delicious though. I wish I was in the position of choosing food for events more often, because I know bringing in a table full of cake balls would make me a hero. Goodness gracious, $3 for a bite of cake that would literally make up 1/10 of a slice of actual cake? Aren't cakeballs just balled up cake covered in frosting? Excuse me, $2.95; my bad. Yes, yes, the cake balls here are indeed quite good, but if you are asking me to pay 2/3 of the price of a slice of cake for a bite, I am appalled. These were no better than any other ball in town. Had these balls been seriously delicious, the price may have been merited, due to quality. Alas, these are not that great. Furthermore, I assume that this craze will probably die down soon. What I know to be a cheap commodity, cake, is now an overpriced entity in itself. I use red velvet as a gauge to test the waters, but I thought it ultimately fell flat. It was not super moist, and the flavor sort of fell flat. Austin Cake Ball provides this very boutique feel in terms of decor, layout, and sales, but I don't like it one bit. It boasts a very pretentious feel, and I don't know how it plays into its location on Burnet. I feel like Burnet has a knack for holding a very casual crowd of eateries, but this one is just too LA. I only went here because of high marks from Yelp. But I had my doubts. I went through the fancy cupcake scene while I was in LA. I had Sprinkles and their counterparts and kept saying "This isn't worth $5+...I rather have Hostess Cup Cakes instead". But after searching for somewhat out of the ordinary thing to try via Yelp, I came across Austin Cake Ball. And I'm glad I did. At first, I thought I got lost. Many Yelpers said the location is weird, but this place is just out there. Being at the corner made it even harder to find. I got there with 20 minutes til closing on Saturday so I felt somewhat rushed to pick out the balls. So I said "this, that, and that too" and bought half a dozen. I ended up going on their website to figure out what I bought. I liked the red velvet, expresso chocolate, & salted caramel. Not too big on lemon drop or mojito. They also last pretty good for few days outside of fridge - I didn't want to feel guilty eating all in one sitting so I ate 2 per day. I ended up stopping by and picked up a dozen on my way back to LA. They were a big hit with the family. I just wish they weren't so pricey because I'd love to serve these at every party I can. But then again, it probably is expensive because the quality of the ingredients they use. And it's a good thing because I can't indulge on these every day without going broke. read more

I'm not gonna lie, these are better than any cupcake place in town... Hands down. If you live in Austin, I strongly encourage you to make the trip up to Anderson Square. Yeah, it's not in the hippest location; yeah, they don't have a sign out on the front of the building; yeah, it could be so much cooler on the inside. But keep focused on the cake balls. Forget the ambiance. Grab a box, go to a park or something, and chow down. Strongly recommend the german chocolate and the vanilla bean. Austinites, I know you're not a bunch of prudes or corporate shills. Support this local business! Buy so many cake balls that they can open up a hip location downtown. I'm torn between a 2 and a 3. I'm going with the 3 because the helped me out with my groupon fiasco. I've had their cake balls a few times ... and meh .. I've personally done better myself. Now you ask, "why buy them then?" Well, the time it takes to make them is a pain. I do like their lemon and think they they offer beautifully decorated balls. However, their red velvet, mojito, italian creme, chocolate, espresso? All kinda dry and uninspiring. I really wanted to enjoy them more because they are so pretty to look at. I'm upgrading Austin Cake Ball two stars. It has been a bit since I tried their cake balls and there has been an amazing improvement in their cake. The cake balls I bought in store today are lighter - much less dense than before and much less dry. I'm not sure what they're doing differently here but I like it, a lot. And they're still beautiful, with more style options than I remember back when I wrote my first review. New stuff? Better cake? Ok... now this is what I call progress. In addition to that, they had a seasonal flavor, pumpkin spice which was incredibly good. Also, they had Mexican chocolate which has a nice kick on the back end of the cake that my husband enjoyed quite a bit. The cake balls are still a bit pricey - enough that I probably won't do these very often and I wont' send them unless it's a super special occasion. Even with my three dollar off tin refill today, it still seemed like the pricing was off. So, Austin Cake Ball, thank you for improving, I for one, truly appreciate it and I think I'll be back a little sooner this time! read more

These are yummy. Though some are definitely a class above the others. In order of which I enjoyed the most: lemon, italian cream, red velvet, espresso chocolate. The cake balls tend to be on the sweet, dense side. They're oversized cake candy to me. Definitely need 3-4/ per person for a real dessert experience. Props to Groupon in getting me to finally try these delicious cake balls! I love the concept of these bite-sized delectables. They're great if you're hosting a party and don't want to deal with the messiness of cutting/serving traditional cake. You can also get them custom-ordered with different colors and decoration themes which would make such a cute gift. *hint hint The location is kinda awkward, placed in a corner suite of the Anderson Square building. There's not really an elaborate sign in front of the building, just a simple sign with their logo on the door, so it may be difficult to locate at first. But keep your eye on the prize and the ambiance doesn't really matter. I've tried three flavors: Italian Creme, Chocolate Espresso, and Red Velvet. All were amazing! I especially loved the espresso bean on top of the Chocolate Espresso. Beware if you don't have much of a sweet tooth normally as the size of these fellas may be deceiving. They are surprisingly rich and filling! Not wanting to seem like a fatty by eating the entire dozen in one sitting, I portioned them out over a few days...side note: they seem to keep better overnight than cake or cupcakes do, not drying out as expected. These cake balls are a great value & alternative to the traditional dessert. Love them! I will be back for my next special occasion. read more

I was excited to try this place. The cake balls looked delicious and it was all cutely decorated. We got the Red Velvet, Strawberry and Birthday cake balls. In my honest opinion for 3$ each it wasn't worth it. The strawberry tasted like boxed cake mix and it was FAR to sweet. I needed milk from just that one cake ball. The red velvet was good but it wasn't special. My toddler ate the birthday cake ball so I can't comment on that one. They're sweet and artificial tasting. I LOVE this company, they really are the best cake balls in Austin. I recently did a walk-in order, and spoke with a VERY informative gentleman behind the counter. I was telling him about my awful experience with Amazing Kakes' cake balls (see my review on that if you're curious) and he explained to me how a proper cake ball was made. Then he even let me taste one of their cake balls before I ordered, just to make sure I liked what I was buying. Perfection! To top that off the tins that the cake balls come in are extremely elegant and highly gift-worthy, well worth the cost! I expect when they move into The Domain (where Viva Chocolat was) business will increase even more. Overall I recommend this place hands-down over any other cake ball company in Austin. This place is conveniently located by my apartment, which was great since I needed something for my fiance's birthday cake. I was so excited to try these since everyone seemed to be pretty ecstatic about them, but honestly I wasn't that impressed. I ordered 27 and they came out to $52 which just seemed really expensive to me for some reason. Maybe this is on par with other desserts. I tried Italian Creme, Birthday Cake, Chocolate, German Chocolate and Oreo. They were fine, but my fiance and I both agreed that we could probably make them better from a box of cake mix. read more

For my birthday a delivery of a dozen cake balls was made to my door. I got an assortment of chocolate mint, salted caramel, vanilla bean and red velvet cake balls. Being that this was my first time ever eating a cake ball, I have no baseline for comparison. It's not the same texture as cake because the cake is mashed and mixed with frosting, so it's more dense. I've been eating Austin Cake Balls for a while now. They are to die for. Their new summer flavor Smores is my new favorite! I bought a whole dozen of just Smores (just for me. ok...i gave my boyfriend a few when he took out the garbage for me. and an extra one when he walked the dog.) and SNARFED them all down! Snarf Snarf! I love it how they let you reuse the tin. I've refilled mine now about 5 times. These are also perfect for client gifts. My office ordered these for client xmas gifts last year and they were a huge hit!!! One thing I HATE about them....is they don't keep mexican chocolate year round. Boooo!!!! I've been looking for a cake ball vendor for my wedding and Austin Cake Ball takes the cake!!! After first learning about cake balls through fellow Elite Yelper Yvonne R and starting a thread on the Houston Yelp page that just won't seem to die, I had to try some for myself! I always knock the icing off of my cake (way too sweet for me) and was glad to learn that there was such an amazing existence of cake covered in chocolate! I bought the Lemon Drop and German Chocolate flavors from Whole Foods in Sugar Land. They were rich, decadent, bursting with flavor, and somehow not too sweet at the same time. It was like eating a chocolate truffle but with cake inside. Since it was so good, I set up an appointment for a cake ball tasting at the store and met one of the cool owners, Ben May, and their financial guy, Jeremy Fleck. They were both really friendly and extremely helpful. My fiancee and I sampled the majority of their flavors: chocolate espresso, dark chocolate orange, lemon drop, German chocolate, mojito, and salted caramel. The mojito and salted caramel were definitely our favorites and blow all the other cake ball places that we've tried out of the water. The other places bake their cake, mix frosting and the baked cake together, shape them into a ball, and coat them with chocolate. Austin Cake Ball uses quality ingredients and no frosting! Have I mentioned that I hate frosting?! I would highly recommend Austin Cake Ball for parties, weddings, baby showers, as a gift, or just because you want to eat some amazing cake balls. My friend from Hawaii ordered Austin Cake Balls for me when she came to visit me in Los Angeles. She said she had them before in a company swag bag but never ordered them to Hawaii because of extremely high cost of shipping. The cost of shipping to LA is still high, but not as high as to Hawaii. Either way these cakeballs are literal amazeballs. Not too sweet and very moist! My favorites in order are lemon drop, red velvet, strawberry, oreo, birthday cake.The other flavors are ok, but those are my top 5! I didn't like the nutella one. I liked them so much I ordered a dozen tin for a friend in Houston, the shipping to Texas is not bad at all. I wanted to get her the baby faces tin but it has limited flavors, kinda a bummer. Over the past 7 years, I've tried many cake balls from Austin and a few other cities in the U.S., but Austin Cake Ball is the best of all of them. Many cake balls are a bit too sweet, but theirs are light, fresh and just right! Their staff have always been friendly at both locations, and online orders have been promptly attended to. If you don't like the price tag on them, you should try making several batches! I used to make them often and they are very time consuming. From what I understand, ACB makes and decorates them all by hand, there's no automated machine helping out, which explains the cost. They are one of the only fresh, not pre-packaged, and great tasting items I've found that I can have shipped to family in other states and they arrive promptly and as tasty as eating one in the store at the Domain. I definitely recommend Austin Cake Ball! And, I agree with another reviewer, the Mexican Chocolate has remained my favorite for 5 years. read more

Yum, yum, yum. I used them to cater my wedding instead of doing a wedding cake. They were a huge hit. One cake ball is about the equivalent of one slice of cake. They are the best of any cake balls I have had. Most other cake balls are too dense for me and far too rich. They are the perfect amount for richness and density. This place is awesome. My girlfriend and I were driving by today so we stopped stopped in to check it out. We showed up a little after 5:30 and initially no one was in the front and there were no balls in the display case. One of the owners came up to he front and greeted us and said we closed at 4 but what can i get for you. We wanted just an assorted half dozen so we ordered and he gladly went into the back to get them. He came back and told us all about the ones he picked out. He was really cool the whole time. I was having a craving for cupcakes one day so I decided to check out reviews for some of the local cupcakeries when I came across Austin Cake Ball. I chose to get Red Velvet (my fav cake), Mojito, Chocolate Espresso and Salted Caramel. I started with the Salted Caramel. So GOOD! Sweet and salty all in one. Then the Mojito - just as good! The hint of citrus and mint was perfect. The Red Velvet and the Chocolate Espresso were a little bit of a let down, cause Red Velvet and Espresso are my two of my fav flavors. They were good just not as fabulous as the Salted Caramel and the Mojito. I am definitely going to try the other flavors! These will be great for my next Girls Night Party!! read more

It's like each little ball is a present. Yes, they are not cheap, however have any of you tried making cake balls?? It is horrible. The absolute worst. So I am happy to give these ladies my money and take home my cute cake babies. I recommend following their website for coupons and also keeping track of your tins. Let's start off with, I had never heard of this place before Groupon. Since being introduced, I have fallen in love with the cake balls. The salty caramel is my fave and mom loves the lemon. Any time we have a special occasion I'm over there for cake balls. They are the perfect little 2-bite size, that way you don't have to say "i want the smallest slice of cake you can cut". Austin Cake Ball is quite tucked away in the corner of a nondescript shopping center off Anderson Square. So you have to know where you are going it isn't going to be a place you drive-by and see. Ok to be clear the cakes where very tasty and moist, I had the salty caramel and tiramisu. They reason for the bad review is the bad taste left in my mouth by the women who served me. Upon entering you aren't greeted which is to be expected since they are hiding in a small corner behind a tree in a small business center. Though the smell upon entering is heavenly, the young girl who every so slowly slinked her way from the back room was less then that. The look on her face was that of disdain and pure boredom, as if my being there was the worst thing to happen in her life. I thought not much of it at first just that she had a bad day, so I decided to engage in friendly chit chat to try and lighten the room, mentioning how I found them online that day and how interested I was, that I just had to rush over after work. To which she responded, "Then you know our flavors" as dryly as the desert sand. Though yes its true I visited their website, I happened upon it through a link on real simple page. She should not assume that I knew anything of the flavors they offer, and should have instead offered her insight and knowledge of the product she sells. Advising me, instead of looking at me as though I was a bug that just crawled into her store, that she needed to eradicate as quickly as possible. So I picked two different flavors without looking at the whole case though I was interested in buying more then the four total that I purchased, because she made it clear I was wasting her time. It was a very uncomfortable experience, which I don't wish to repeat. My reason for trying them out was too in the near future purchase a large order for a friends bridal shower. Austin Cake Balls are insanely delicious and the presentation is fantastic, making them an ideal gift item. I don't say this lightly. Ordinarily, I don't even like cake, so coming from me, this is serious praise. The customer service is also top notch. I think some of the reviews that are less than five stars are just quibbling over nothing. Look, this is very good stuff and very good service. And a real life saver if you are looking at the last minute to send a gift that is different from the usual flowers or what not. What's not to like? Austin Cake Balls rock. read more

I love these! They aren't cheap, but when I want something sweet, it's the perfect size treat. The different flavors they have are really great. I particularly love the fall flavors like pumpkin spice and gingerbread. It's a tiny shop. Not much to it, but everyone's always really nice.
