This place has really gone down hill in the service dept. over the lunch hr. We use to come here for lunch with 5-8 people 3-4 times a month for work lunch. And now the boss will not bring customers here anymore. The lady that sits you drags everything out and makes you wait at the front door while she finds a table........ than comes back and grabs menus......... than takes menus to table without you....... than comes back to finally seat you. All while tables are open everywhere. By this time it is 12:20 and our lunch hour is doomed. We have been eating here for 15yrs. This should be an easy fix issue. I was determined that we'd eat some place different on Friday. I didn't get a lot of chance to research during the day, so by dinner time, I was kind of rushing to find something. I typed "Best Restaurant in Olathe" in Google, this came up in the top 5; I've tried the others. The reviews seemed mixed, but the menu looked okay so I locked it in. We got there and were greeted by a boisterous crowd. We were able to snag a table right away. Two seconds after sitting down our "waitress" (I think calling her our order taker would be more appropriate) wanted to take our orders. I explained to her that we haven't been there before so we'd like to have a moment to look at the menus. Well, this seemed to tick her off. She stomped off after telling us the drink specials. I opted for one of the vodka drinks out of the menu that was obviously provided by the vodka compay, co-diner opted for the margarita special. She came back to take our order, I ordered my drink along with a water and she started to leave. I hollered "WHOA" at her, "Hey, this other person at my table wants to have something to drink too" that seemed surprising to her. Anyway, about 15 minutes passed, she came by once to tell us our drinks would be there soon. We'd looked at the menu and were already feeling a little doomed by our service, so we'd decided to share an appetizer and run away as fast as we could. We ordered cups of soup and a slider trio and she ran off again. Finally our drinks came. I'm not bar afficianado. The margarita was one of those cloudy mixes, but it was tolerable. My drink was one of those frat boy drinks that comes in what looks like a cap off a spray paint can. It was alcohol, but it was disappointing. I didn't really want a room temperature drink that tasted like it was mixed in a bathtub. Too quickly, a runner brought our soup. I had chicken tortilla and she had baked potato. It was ICE COLD. I can share with you the recipe for my soup: 1 can of cream of chicken soup a sprinkle of spices dump the can of soup into a cup and put some chinese noodles on top with some cheese Gross. Later a runner brought out our sliders. The sliders looked promising. I do hate when they don't bother to toast the bun. What was funny was that each burger was a different size. The onion tanglers on top were COLD. The meat was tasty. We spent about $30 on 2 drinks, 2 soups and an appetizer. Embarassing. One thing nice is, we won't have to bother going there again. read more

This is our second time going to Austin's for their happy hour deals. They have happy hour from 3-6 Monday-Friday and they have some of the best happy hour deals I have ever seen! That place was pretty busy for a Wednesday night! I ordered the soft pretzels, fried pickles, and chicken bites and it only cost about $7.00 and it was more than enough to fill me up. They have a pretty good food selection for happy hour, too. We've had pretty good service when we went there. This last time, though, I think our server was new. I was interested in the slider on the happy hour menu but I didn't know how many it came with or what came on it. When I asked about it, our waitress didn't seem to know either so I just didn't order it. We went there with a large group for a birthday and it was a great time. This place is usually packed when we go on Wednesday nights. They have a large selection of food. I really thought it was going to be a Honky Tonk place that only serves steaks and fried chicken. I've been going to Austins for 30+ years and have never been disappointed but this week my chicken fried steak which I order frequently. This last time this batter was twice the size of the steak and the steak was tough a Goodyear tire. I didn't complain because I didn't want my meal comped. My Sunday lunch special (pulled pork sandwich with baked beans, slaw, and fries for $8) was ready just five minutes after I ordered, and tasted great. The sandwich had plenty of tasty, moist meat. The beans were surprisingly good, with chunks of brisket. The sweet potato fries were nicely seasoned, and perfectly cooked. The service was great (attentive, cheerful, and fast). Good food and lots of screens to catch the games but the service was just okay. My son had the chicken strips and said they were the best he has had. I tried them and although they didn't have much flavor (spices), they were really crunchy and the meat was tender. The BBQ sauce was delicious! He had mashed potatoes as his side and they were the best both of us have had. My pulled pork sandwich was tough and had quite a bit of fat in it. My fries and baked beans were really good. The place was clean, including restrooms. We will eat here again but I'll pass on the pulled pork. read more

We had a larger gathering here later in the evening and decided to come early for dinner. Lots of smoke in the restaurant from the enclosed patio that allows smoking - and has a connected door to the main portion of the restaurant. It was really bad. We finally asked the manager about it and he said something about turning on some ventilation on the porch. Why wasn't that on to begin with? Is this allowed under Olathe Smoking Ordinance? I think it's very rude. Perhaps the servers and patrons should be using the outside doors to prevent so much smoke from coming inside. Our appetizers were delivered AFTER our entrees were delivered. Our server was so soft-spoken (and the place is loud) that we weren't sure what happened. If asked, we would have cancelled the order and refused the apps. Who wants to eat the apps with a big meal in front of you? My order was not correct and missing a side. That arrived after we all were halfway through our meals. Beverage service was inconsistent. It would take quite a while for a refill to return to the table. We aren't fans and won't be returning. The smoke was awful, the service was bad, and the food wasn't that special. read more

We came to Austin's on Thursday evening June 4th. There was no wait and food and drinks came quick. One of our steaks was overcooked so we sent it back. It was cooked to perfection and replaced in a very quick fashion. We were already completely understanding of the mistake, they comped steak and amped up the already amazing service from there. We decided to finish dinner with drinks on the patio and the manager/staff weant over and beyond in service and care, the dessert was perfect and drinks were delicious. My husband and I went to Austin's Thursday night (12/30) and both ended up with food poisoning. We order off the happy hour menu. Chicken bites tossed in Buffalo sauce, chicken quesadillas, and their so called spicy cheese curds. It took awhile to get our food and when it finally arrived it was cold and looked like it had been sitting around for awhile. We were starving and ate it anyways. That was our mistake. It was happy hour but I guess that didn't apply to the beer we ordered. Their special is a $1 off domestic pints and $1 off craft beer. We were charged full price for all of our drinks. We didn't fight it because at this point we just wanted to get out of there. We use to love Austin's and it was our go to spot. This is the third time we have had issues with their food and shame on us for giving it another try. We won't be back. read more

We've visited Austin's several times and enjoy it. Good location and decent food. We've always had good service and it's usually busy. It's a bar and grill with lots of TVs and "welcome shots" during the Chiefs games. We have order food to go twice so far during the covid pandemic. Austins is a bar for locals and regulars. I'm not saying that it wouldn't be great for the average business traveler or a group of drinkers stranded in south Olathe. I'm just saying that I tend to see the exact same groups of people here every single time I come. Not necessarily a bad thing, on the contrary, it provides a kind of "everybody knows your name" feel. That is of course if you are a local or a regular. The food here is above average bar fare. Every item on the menu (with a few exceptions) is just a little better than at other bars in the area. I can't count the number of times I've had their Alaskan Joe sandwich; a decent (likely previously frozen) grilled fillet of salmon topped with avocado, tomato, sprouts, and dill mayo; by far my favorite bar sandwich in all the KC Metro. They offer a twist on the typical buffalo wings and tenders called delgado style. Basically they take a wing or tender that has already been fried and sauced and they throw it back in the fryer for a minute, infusing the buffalo sauce into the breading and making it extra crispy. Delgado breaks up the buffalo wing monotony. As the 4 stars indicates Austins is above average compared to others in the area. But, I'm a local and probably a bit biased. P.S. I have to weigh in on the burgers as other posters have declared them as 5 star. I adamantly disagree with this. Although they may be a great deal on Mondays at half price, they are average at best. If you have had Town Topic, Blanc, or Grandstand (one of my favorites), you will understand what I mean. read more

Ugh, I just couldn't get comfortable here. Had it not been for some really great company and one last chance to see my cousin before she blows town, I would have blown this place. I am in the minority it seems, because this place was very crowded. We wedged our car between a conga line of pick up trucks and followed in some dudes in their best sweatshirts. My eyes were fried with beer lights, games and glowing tv's in every direction. This bar is BRIGHT! Sort of reminds me of Tanners on steroids, but then i kind of liked Tanners. Don't expect to have a conversation here without the other person diverting their eyes every 10 seconds to a tv above your head. Believe me, I have been in plenty of sports bars and there is just something about this place that is unsettling. Too bright, too big, weird layout with all these broken up rooms and uncomfortable seating. I have to admit, service was good. We decided to order food and my chicken caesar was fresh and crisp. Awesome food -t here is'nt a better bar in town when it come to their food selection or quality! They have 33 flat screen TV's and several games to play. In my opinion, they have the BEST inclosed patio in town. Even though I don't smoke its nice to have a place you can go to in the winter that has a heated patio for smokers. Unfortunately, not my first go to. Austin's is right down the street from my home, and my roommates and I had a craving for drink specials and bar food. Tuesday special is 1.50$ beef tacos, 2.75$ coronas and 4.00$ margaritas. Margaritas tasted like it came from a mix, extremely sweet, with limited alcohol. Our service was extremely off...our waitress was no where to be found for the majority of the night, and a second waitress had to come take our second orders. When our first waitress arrived back, it was obvious that she had been sobbing--her eyes were red, she still had tears streaming down her face, and she was hiccuping from crying so hard. We would have been fine to have kept the second waitress. I ordered the nachos with no meat, and I was not too pleased. The cheese that was used tasted like melted velvetta, and hardened really quickly on the chips. Sour cream did not taste fresh, it had an odd consistency and was not creamy. Review on carry out experience: We called in and ordered some of their wings. Evidentially they have some express pick-up spot, but it's not marked well. I found the server walking through the parking lot looking for me with our food. She took my card, ran it and then came back out. It was a pretty quick deal. We got the wings with the sauce in big containers on the side. This way we could heat the wings up in the oven when our friends came and then we tossed them in a big bowl with sauce. They were crispy and delicious. They disappeared quick and we could have easily ordered more. I thought this was great option for game day food when you want to watch the game at home with friends. It is our neighborhood bar. The food isn't spectacular but it is good and filling. I have eaten in and had carryout. I placed our carryout order online and picked it up 20 min later. We ordered the chicken fried steak and wings. The chicken fried steaks and their sides filled a whole carryout bag! I ordered onion rings and garlic mashed potatoes with mine. The onion rings were delicious, the garlic potatoes had a little too much garlic for me, but that is just my personal opinion. My husband had the sweet potato fries and mac n cheese. Both were very good according to him. Between the chicken fried steak and the sides we had more food than we could eat. The wings went into the fridge for the next day. I don't know what my husband thought of them as he had them while I was out shopping! read more

Put it this way we closed it down that night... fun place only complaint is how law enforcement stalk this place at closing time. They were parked hiding and all... Thought they maybe should of been in the city were crime is happing each and every second. But I suppose that's to much work. It was pathetic to see. This is probably the nicest restaurant in Gardner. The decor is very English pub-like with its oak paneling. I have enjoyed going to Austin's for years. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. The food is priced reasonably and they have great specials. The club sandwich and any of their burgers are probably my main go-to items. I'm not crazy about the "condiment station" but that's because I'm a germaphobe and I don't like the idea of touching the serving pieces knowing that other people have touched them. A great place to go and have a burger and a beer. Have been there many times and staff has been great. Had a so-so experience once with a waitress who seemed to be new and the place was a madhouse. I had my kids with me that day and maybe she assumed we would tip poorly since since we had little ones -- her self fullfilling prophecy was granted -- but only due to service that was lacking. It happens -- no big deal I have been back a few times since then and enjoyed it very much. Will continue to go. Their burgers and excellent. Would recommend! I'm torn I'm not gonna lie. The Service? Always attentive. Owners, servers, bartenders, always a joy and I have never had an empty water soda or other beverage. Food however... in 3 years, and believe me it's been 3 years. The steak has not once (IN 3 freaking YEARS) been cooked to the right temperature. We've come on birthdays, anniversaries, office gatherings, double dates. And every time I order steak and without fail every time, the temp is wrong. One time I sent it back THREE times and it still wasn't cooked to the temp I requested. True story! One time after 3 refires of wrong temperature steaks I told the server I would add 3 zero's to her tip if she stood there to witness me cutting it open and showing it was cooked to the wrong temp. Now even if I like my steak medium or med-rare I'll eat it well done if it's a well seasoned piece ofsteak and I don't like to piss off cooks. So even when the temp is wrong and they can't fix it a second or third time I'm still eating here after 3 years knowing they won't get the steak right. Tip for the owners, YouTube "steak finger tests" and it'll show you how to check the temp of a steak by how bouncy it is without a thermometer or cutting. It's how I knew on that third refire that they still hadn't cooked correctly. read more
