They won't service your Lexus, but bring your Ferrari!

I Came in on a Saturday morning right when they opened for an oil change for my 2013 Honda Fit. I normally do them myself, but my new apartment doesn't provide a good location, so I was looking for an inexpensive and quick alternative. Auto Champs is a no-frills honest auto mechanic. What they lack in fancy waiting rooms they more than make up for in courtesy and quick service. The oil change included airing up the tires, topping off other fluids, interior vacuum, and windshield cleaning. I was told that the tires were showing inside tread wear due to worn shocks, but there were no pushy attempts to sell me on anything beyond what I went in for. I am extremely happy with my experience. There's an advertised price plus disposal and fees. I was out the door in less than 20 minutes for $32. That's about what I would spend to do it myself.

Stopped for oil change 2 days back. It was fast and cost effective. They also did regular maintenance checks.

In terms of price, I'd say it is about average for what you'd expect out of a good repair shop - they worked on my car a full day and the whole thing ended up being around $1K total. Really great customer service by Nick and his team - I'll be coming back here in the future if I have any other car issues.

I went back to the shop 3 times over the course of ~9 months, each time discovering some issues and replacing the pad/disk (this is where i felt good about the shop, everyone welcomed me back and did the diagnose and replacement for free). I end up relacing the two front pad/disk with another brand (zimmerman? that's what i heard) and resolved all issues. Maybe I just got unlucky, but I have to leave my honest and true experience which exhausts me over the last year (imagine every time you back out of your garage and hearing this "click" sound from your brake system, with a baby in a car. You natually worries about your safety).

It reminds me of other family run businesses like In and Out and Chick fil A where you're valued as a customer, the prices are always fair, and the quality & service stands out. I push back and ask him specifically which puncture is actually causing the leak. He starts checking and finds out the one near the sidewall isn't even the issue -- it's the other punctures. So now the original reason to refuse goes out the window. Then he pivots. Goes over to my front driver side tire -- completely different axle, opposite corner of the car -- and says he won't service my vehicle because of the condition of that tire. Points to a specific line in their internal policy: "2/32 Inches or Less." I read it right there in front of him. That row describes what they can and can't do with a tire that IS itself at 2/32" -- it says nothing about refusing to patch a completely separate tire on a different axle. He misapplied his own policy. Also worth noting: that same policy line has a green checkmark under "Inflate" -- meaning by their own chart they'd inflate a 2/32" tire but won't touch a perfectly separate tire on the other side of the car. Make it make sense. I asked him to put the refusal and the reason in writing. Wouldn't do it. Just kept pointing at the policy -- the same one that doesn't actually back up what he was saying. And here's the part that gets me -- if it's a safety issue, why'd you let me drive off? No waiver, no documentation, nothing. Just sent me on my way with the puncture still in the tire and the "unsafe" tire still on the car. That's not a safety call, that's a sales call. Posting the policy photo so you can read it yourself. Filed a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair. If this sounds familiar at this location, you can do the same at bar.ca.gov.
