** Detailed Review** Hello everyone, I had just got around to be able to write a review for Auto Plus of Chicago. I will write a detailed review of my personal experience with them. I have a 12' Lexus IS250 and I was involved in an accident where my front and rear bumper needed to be replaced. I was looking for many local shops that had fair pricing and good reviews, reviews always go a long way. I found Auto Plus of Chicago with 4+/5 stars. I had spoke to the owner, Sam, about pricing. He gave me a very reasonable price for paint+install. I had ordered the front and rear bumpers on my own, I just needed the shop to paint+prime and install them for me. 04/06/2021- This was the first day that I came in to drop my car off to the shop. At first glance this shop looked very unprofessional, it looked like no one even worked here, not a single worker to be found, except the janitor. I walked around and found one of the workers in the office. I told him what I needed done and that I spoke to Sam. I left the bumpers there for them to paint and they said they would contact me when they are ready to be installed. Sounded good to me. 04/06/2021- I was told the bumpers were done and to leave the car at the shop for installation, which was fine with me, shouldn't take long at all. I was told that their painter broke their back and it would take longer than usual, I understand accidents happen so that was fine. 04/17/2021- I was told the car was ready. I came into the shop to notice the paint color was off and there were smudge marks everywhere. My car is nebula gray, while the front and rear bumper were painted like a light blue shade. I said I'm not taking it and to fix this and let me know when it's ready. 05/06/2021- I was finally told the car was finished this time and I came into the shop, this time the paint was matched fairly accurate and weren't many smudge marks which looked fine to me. The funny thing is they got this paint from Sherwin-Williams, which was right across their shop... I thought I would had a smooth and easy process with this shop, but of course with my luck right when I came in to make a deal with them is when these new workers bought the shop. Previous owners seemed to care much more about customers and provided quality service. Overall, this shop is VERY unprofessional and no one seems to CARE about any customer satisfaction. If you actually want some decent customer service the only person I recommend talking to is SAM, absolutely no one else at that shop has any idea what they are doing and they are very unprofessional. It took EXACTLY 1 month for me to get my car just to get the FRONT and REAR bumper painted and installed. A job like this should take a WEEK at most, realistically a couple days. I had to come in THREE separate times to look at the car just to even see if it was right. The first and second time were absolutely ridiculous and I would feel embarrassed to even offer a customer a vehicle looking like the way mine did. To start out with the bottom line: SUPERB! We wrote for a quote by email, got a reply the same day (from Roger, the owner), then spoke by phone, dropped off our car a day later. Work performed was frame repair involving some welding. Price was even less than estimated (based on a photo we sent in our email), work was excellent. Car handles properly now, like it just came off the line. We had no idea that things were off. Another shop noticed the frame-suspension damage when doing an oil change. After Auto Plus of Chicago, it's like we got a new car. We'd DEFINITELY go back for future repairs involving the body or frame for our car. Auto Plus is the ONLY place I will take my car. They are focused on honesty, high technical skill, being careful, keeping the cost low for its non-Gold Coast clientele, and being genuinely nice people. I've had them do everything from brake changes to bodywork, which they do very well. They matched my speckle paint twice, and repairs done years ago are still perfect. They really understand cars in three dimensions and, rather than automatically replacing assembled at great cost, they take the time to examine the issue and come up with creative solutions that cost a fraction of that. This review is written on behalf of a non-Yelper. Boyfriend, "It's like Diana is working for tips...I've used many garages in the past and this has been the best experience...if I'm back in the city, this is where I'm taking my vehicles." I don't know all about the issues his truck had, but it's a '89 Dodge Ram and it died on him on Diversey. Joe B's Expert Auto was right around the corner, but they recommended AutoPlus due to Their experience with carburetor engine domestic vehicles. Like many other reviewers stated, customer service was out of this world. They ordered a tow truck for him, called when it got to the shop, and continued to keep him in the loop through the whole process. They (Roger too) did the dirty work and solved a mystery my man spent a day and a half working on within a couple days. Diana even sent photos by text of the work in progress. By the end of the week he had new fuel lines, a fuel pump, and overall cleaned up electric system. The last part was a surprise, but a welcome one. At the end of it, all the work was explained and the truck has been running (2 weeks later) better than it ever had before. The boyfriend is a very happy camper. read more

This place is fair and reasonable. I've been going here for over 6-7 years, after my cousin recommended it (her car is now 20+years old). Roger, the owner, will obviously tell you what's wrong with the car and if you can get do not have to fix it right away. I brought my car in this past Saturday expecting to get it back that evening like always, but found out it wont be ready til Monday (they're closed on Sunday). Roger lent me his extra car (which I believe he does for regular customers) until monday. When I picked up my car, he had it cleaned from Pierre's, the car cleaning spot, next door. This is the first and last time I'm taking my car with Auto Plus. I took in my car in because there was some wires that were chewed up from rodents that needed to get fixed. Now, the Machanic calls me to tell me that the job is going to cost between 380-490.00. I leave my car with them. It takes them 3 days to get back to me. Now, as I'm talking to the mechanic he says that the price went up from 490 to 600.00 even. I ask why and says that there's a lot of work to do on it. As frustrated as I get, it gets worse. Then they call me saying that the price goes up to 724.00. I'm already pissed off. They said since I left the car parked in my garage for too long, rodents got in There pretty bad. They said the price went up because they have to do a "mandatory" brake check up. I was so upset beside I never asked for a brake check up. After arguing with them, I finally got them to lower the price down to 644.00. Smh. They also tried charging me for the gas money they supposedly put in for me?? Once I pick up my car, they left it parked in the back alley! Hello! That's what caused the problem in the first place?? And not to mentioned my car was on empty. I almost didn't make it to the gas station. They completely ripped me off. My car still runs like crap. Save yourself and find some place else to take your car. I've been their regular customer for almost 10 years. The staff and mechanics there are courteous and have done an excellent job for me over those years. Last time I brought my car in for tire repair. They checked it and said I didn't need the repair just fill air in it and did not charge me anything. I really appreciate the courtesy. read more

We are from Iowa and my son's car broke down in downtown Chicago 3 hours from home late on a Saturday night. We had originally called another shop but they did not work on 2000 Pontiacs but were kind enough to make this recommendation. We had paid for 48 hours of downtown parking and it was imperative that the car be picked up on Monday so as to avoid additional costly tickets or worse yet to have it towed by police. Auto Plus made sure they got the car picked up for us on Monday with time to spare. (Which was such a relief). They explained their findings and gave us a very fair and reasonable quote. They also had the car ready for us as promised as we had to drive back to Chicago to pick it up. The beautiful surprise was that we were charged even less than quoted! How often does that happen!!
