It is rare in a big city to find a place that treats you like one of their own and this place does just that. They treat you like family. They are so kind and will help you in every way possible including getting you in on short notice and going over options as far as what has to be done and what can wait when finances are tight. They also are the only place in Austin I trust to give it to me straight. I have never felt like I'm being taken advantage of. These people care and I am incredibly thankful I found them. These guys are fantastic. When the Toyota dealer told me I needed $1300 in repairs on my car, I wanted a second opinion. I told these guys exactly what Toyota had wanted to replace, and Auto Tek could have easily agreed with that diagnosis and I would've paid them to fix it. However, after a very thorough inspection they told me there was no indication for repair or replacement, and in the end I paid only $25 instead of $1300. My daughters tail light lens was broken and needed to be replaced. I called them to get an estimate and the receptionist was so helpful, she called around for the part and when she found one she called me back and said the part would be $50 all we needed to do was pick it up and bring it to them to install it and replace the bulb with no additional charge! It only took 10 mins and my daughter was outta there! Great customer service and very honest! I called other places and the estimate was between $100-200 We'll be going here for now on! I came here based off of other Yelp recommendations, and I'm so glad that I did! The staff was very professional and friendly. The guy actually recommended that I take my car to the dealership to get a better deal on a replacement battery (assuming that the car was still under warranty). I thought the level of honesty about cost was very impressive. The inside is clean, particularly the bathroom (that is a BIG deal to me) and the atmosphere is peaceful. I will always come here again in the future. Just a note - they keep it COLD in here. It's high summer and I was snuggling with my toddler on the couch wishing for a blanket. What do you do when your dealership gives you a list of repairs for $3,200? Call Auto Tek! I am so grateful for these guys! Not only are they a AAA shop, but they are just genuinely nice people. Aaron went over the list of dealer recommendations, explaining the ones he agreed with and the ones he didn't. I also appreciated that he took time to explain why he didn't agree. What sealed the deal for me is that it turned out my speed sensor was not actually broken, but that a wire came lose. I reached out to them for help getting a repair done. They weren't able to help me out, but did take it upon themselves to point me in the right direction. That was pretty cool. Usually it's more like "Sorry, we don't do that." instead of the email I got that said, "Sorry we don't do that, but here's another option for you that isn't us..." If that doesn't speak to their commitment to customer service, I don't know what does. They didn't get a dime of my money right now but it makes me want to give them money in the future. Very professional, friendly, and affordable service! I wish this place was in my hometown! I'm from FL and wanted to get a safety check and oil change on my car before the long drive down. Needless to say the people at "Auto Tek, Inc" are very professional and very honest. He told me about minor repairs on my car that could wait till I got to FL. I was willing to pay double the price of what they had charged (I do not know anything about cars), but was very pleasantly surprised at the total. In addition, I received a AAA discount. The people who work here are amazing! I brought in my Ford Excursion because there was a gas smell coming from the vents when the A/C was on and another mechanic hadn't been able to resolve the issue. Looong story short these guys tracked down the issue (it was with the charcoal filter thingy - it was saturated with gas). They got me all fixed up and now my truck is running perfectly! Congrats Auto Tek for 100th review on Yelp :). Being New to Austin Area and have had couple of bad experience in car Oil change and service, I was little skeptical about almost all Auto Repair shop. Came across Auto Tek on Yelp and glad that I found the right technicians. I did take my vehicle (2003 Camry) for a brake service. They have specified that some shaft that holds the engine is broken. Not all four but two of those. It is not an emergency but it will be wise to fix now than later. I initially felt that it is another sales pitch every other Auto Repair shop does. However They did not press on it though. They explained, I asked them to include that with the service too. These guys are genuine and fixed everything it was quoted. I have received AAA discount on the final bill, which is kind of cool. I wanted my vehicle to be fixed before my 2400 miles road trip. The vehicle did really well the entire trip. The pleasant surprise was the call from Michael, couple of days after I took the vehicle from service. Michael asked about the Brakes and overall vehicle performance. I was so impressed that they even follow up and check what is going on. They are THE PROFESSIONAL people. I will recommend them any day. read more

Rolled in with a really weird electrical issue. All the power in my pickup would randomly die sometimes when starting it up, and then the truck would be dead for anywhere from a minute to an hour before the power would bizarrely just switch back on for starting. Coming to an auto shop with a strange seemingly random electrical issue can be like going to a pickpocket with an open wallet and a sign that says "please take my money". New starter? New alternator? New whatsis connected to the expensive thingamagiggie? Sure! However, the AutoTek folks went through the whole electrical system and determined that it was likely just a loose cable connection to the battery. They took all day with it to rule out any other problems, but only charged for a few hours of labor since the fix turned out to be simple as simply tightening a cable connection bolt. Less than $100 total, problem solved, and great peace of mind. Fantastic folks. Even followed up a week later with a phonecall to make sure I hadn't experienced any more strange electrical problems. Not at all, 'cuz they fixed the problem like the honest experts they are. All my future truck/auto repair and maintenance will be with these folks, because they are really fantastic. read more

We took our 2006 Honda C-RV for a complete inspection, as we are re-locating to VA and are driving there. Within hours they had produced a detailed list of what passed muster, issues to keep an eye on, and issues that needed immediate attention. It was clear and VERY detailed -- with words, photos and video. We discussed their findings - came up with a plan of action, they generated a very acceptable estimate, and work began. (To give an idea of the scope, it was around $3.3K worth of parts and labor.) Progress updates from them all along the way. Dropped off on a Monday morning, picked up on Thursday at midday. All work completed on time and the estimate was totally accurate! They are friendly, knowledgeable and extremely professional! I can only dream that we'll find such a competent shop once we've moved! Anything to do with car repair usually causes me a lot of stress because I don't understand the mechanical part of cars and I am wary of being ripped off. Incredible diagnosticians. Truly. These guys are hands down the wizard internal medicine doctors of the auto industry here in Austin. Case in point: Last spring my son was driving our beloved but aging luxury SUV from Dallas to Austin. Suddenly the check engine light came on, a bunch of other lights popped on, there was a faint smokey smell and the car started shaking. Yikes! Very scary. When we got the car to Austin we took it immediately to the dealership where we were given a 9 page report and told it would cost $5+K to get our car running again!Fortunately, we decided to get a second opinion at Auto Tek before we put Bessie to rest. After a careful inspection, Auto Tek came back with something that wasn't even in the 9 page report!!! They said the problem originated from some arcing in the ignition coil (the smokey smell) and once that got out of whack the car began to have trouble and starting throwing out all sorts of codes. Their solution? A new ignition coil. Cost? Less than$200 Are these guys cheap? No . I've found them to be mostly mid range in price. They are just EXTREMELY GOOD at what they do which is figuring out what's wrong with your car and fixing it. In our case, we said, "hallelujah replace the ignition coil!" When they took the coil out, they discovered there was really no need for a new coil...just one bad cylinder ( I may not have all these part names right). Final cost to get our car running again? Less than $100! Needless to say these guys are my car heroes. Since it took me so long, I can provide an update and say that 8 months later, Bessie is going strong at 205,000 miles. Auto Tek says she needs about $1900 in Maintance work now to stay strong and safe. Still way under $5k. Amazing. read more

The staff is polite, does a great job and is very honest about what needs to be done. One of the best Auto Repair shops I have taken my car to. They worked with me, and helped me out a lot. My car was hydrolocked - basically the engine was done for. They helped me out a lot. They explained all of the issues, priced it out, and when it was decided that that repair costs to get the car in working order were so expensive it would be better for my to give in and go get a new car - they helped me out by letting me store my car there for a week and dealt with the selling of the car to a junkyard. Every step of the unfortunate process of finding out your car is done for was made easier by the customer service they provided. I would absolutely go there again. read more

Last week I took in my mini with a check engine light on. They replaced a part but due to technology they did not have the Mini Cooper software to proceed further. They worked on for hours and drove it around and tried to figure it out. When I picked it up, the charged me for nothing. My invoice was zero! Aaron said for me to save that money and put it towards a mini specialist shop. The lead mechanic came and talked to me for about 20 minutes telling me what was done and what he thought would be my best course of action. I was shocked, they didn't even charge me for the part. I brought my car in for an issue with my starter and right away, the whole team was friendly, welcoming and I felt assured that I made the right choice. They kept me updated the whole time that my car was in the shop and relayed everything that they were doing. I guess I should start by explaining that this is a first for me. I NEVER give five stars. Mostly, I carp and complain on Yelp. So, keep that in mind when you read this review. We own a 96 Honda Oddessy that we love, because it's the size of what passes for a small car these days, but seats 7 in comfort. And you can park it! There's NOTHING on the market these days that's even close. But it is 20 years old. One morning a few weeks ago, it wouldn't start. We had it towed to Auto Tek where they diagnosed the problem as a relay in the fuel injection, but what killed the relay? Most mechanics would have just replaced the relay, that'll be a hunert bucks, thankyousir. Auto Tek kept on digging until they found the issue, they thought; the ignition switch was completely worn out. A new relay, a new ignition switch, and the car runs like new again. For several weeks. Until last Friday when it wouldn't start in the morning again. (A car that only quits when it's in the driveway? This is a keeper!) Another tow to Auto Tek and another relay. But they weren't satisfied again. The technician kept digging. He pulled the FI 'computer', and found a dangling capacitor. We need a new computer. And you can't buy them anymore. Auto Tek started trying to find me a used one, but I just happen to know a guy who owns a business repairing wafer fab equipment. I took the computer to him, his tech replaced every cap on the board, and the car runs again. I have NEVER had a mechanic dig all the way down to the board level chasing a fault. "You need a new computer" is the standard. And if you can't buy one, "you need a new car". This is exceptional service. Service that deserves five stars. read more
