Unfortunately, the car had sold the day before, but John (salesperson) was super helpful. He took my husband's info, followed up, and sent over a few comparable listings. One of them caught my eye right away because I loved the interior color. We came in to check it out, and although it was John's day off, Chris stepped in to help us. I forewarned him that my husbands more into the car than I am, I'm not set on it. I looked at both the Q5 and SQ5 but realized they were a bit too small now that we have a newborn and need space for an additional car seat. Chris showed us the Q7 we originally came in to look at, test drove it, but I wasn't quite ready to make a decision yet. We spent the whole day shopping around, and when we came back around 6pm, Chris welcomed us back with so much patience. He showed us the car again, offered another test drive, and never once made me feel pressured. I ended up going with the Q7...and I'm SO happy I did! I went to look at the bmw X3 and other mini SUV's and I kept thinking of this one. I really want to highlight how amazing both John and Chris were. John stayed involved behind the scenes, helping my husband over the phone to make sure everything ran smoothly. Chris gave me the full car buying experience (which I told him I usually leave to my husband!), explained everything clearly, including the engine for life policy, and truly made me feel comfortable every step of the way. What stood out the most was his honesty because he even said he didn't want to sell me a car I wasn't sure about. That meant a lot. I needed that time to step away and compare options, and when I came back, I knew it was the right choice. To top it all off, Chris had the car fully detailed, stayed past closing, and even put a bow on it for photos. Such a thoughtful touch! Overall, this was such a smooth and positive experience. But man, this was 7 years ago and I still get angry thinking about it. I was in my mid/late 20's when I bought my car from them. I have tattoos, piercings, and at the time my hair was either neon green and blue, or hot pink and purple (can't remember which one). Im used to the staring, the pointing, the not so quiet whispers. I'm all too familiar with strangers taking one look at me and deciding that they know the kind of person I am, and the people who worked here were no different. I went to purchase one of their cars. I brought everything they asked me to. I had $4,200 cash for the down payment, copy of my paystubs, and a print out of my bank statement as well. They gave me my bank statement back, and they said they still needed additional income verification, and that I needed to bring in the cancelled checks. I told them that there was no way I was going to be able to get them. My mom owns her own business, I work for her. She was out of state caring for her parents who were both 95+ years old, one of which had both Alzheimer's and dementia. There was just no way she would have been able to take the time to do that. They wouldn't budge on it, so i said that's fine, and I left. A day or two after that, I got an email from them telling me that they cleared it with the bank, and to go ahead and come in and purchase the car. I emailed back and said "so the cancelled checks are no longer necessary?" And they said I did not need the cancelled checks, and to come in and make the purchase. So that's what I did. The whole process was uncomfortable. They were rude and demeaning but I went through with the purchase anyways. There was another couple in there purchasing a different Mercedes. He said he didn't like the wheel center caps on the car he was purchasing, and that he wanted ones from a different Mercedes out there. They happily obliged. When I was leaving, I noticed the car I just purchased didn't even have mats (can't believe I didn't notice during the test drive). When I said something to one of the workers, he just replied "buy some on Amazon" and walked back inside. A day or two later I received an email from Elegant Auto. The email requested that I send them cancelled checks. Before I went back to purchase the car, I made it a point to make sure the checks weren't needed, and they said they weren't. That is the only reason I made the purchase. They then insinuated that my proof of income was fake (paystubs and bank statements), and then straight up accused me of lying about my employment just because I work for my mother. They said I had two options. I could send them the cancelled checks, or I could return the car by the end of the day. I told them, like I had said from the get go, I couldn't get them the cancelled checks, and I had also just gone out of town, so I couldn't return it by end of day even if I wanted to. I asked them why my bank statements weren't enough, and they just kept saying that the bank needed the cancelled checks and if I couldn't bring the car back that day, they were going to send someone out to repo it. They said if I'm not lying about my employment then getting the cancelled checks shouldn't be an issue. I called the bank to see what I could do, and they told me that they had no idea why Elegant Auto had lied and said that the bank no longer needed the checks. They also said that my bank statement, even without the deposits, would be fine as long as it shows a sufficient amount deposited into my account monthly. After sending her my bank statement, she said I made way more than enough, and she approved my loan. She said that they either needed the checks OR the bank statements, and she had no idea why the dealership refused to take my bank statements and kept insisting only on the cancelled checks. They were rude, judgmental, told me I was lying about my income and my employment just because I work for my mother's company, they had me come purchase a vehicle under false pretenses, and then a day later threatened to send someone to repo the vehicle from me if I didn't send them documents that they said specifically ensured me that they didn't need, and that I repeatedly said I didn't have! And wouldn't accept my bank statements as proof of income, demanding only the cancelled checks, even though BOTH were accepted forms of proof of income as long as they showed that I had enough money coming in! It felt like they thought that if I couldn't come up with the checks, then that would prove that they were right and that I was lying. I know this review is all over the place. I really wish I wrote this when everything happened and it was fresh on my mind. I'm pretty sure that I have left out quite a few things. And like I said, this was in 2019. I don't know if it's any different now, but honestly, I don't care to find out.

This is a widely reported problem across several GM models. I was concerned it might be contributing to my battery repeatedly dying, since I had recently replaced the battery only for it to die again shortly afterward. My mother also recently had the same issue repaired on her newer Chevrolet Blazer. The dealership also diagnosed a failing EGR valve after the check-engine light came on. Thankfully, that repair was covered under California's TZEV emissions warranty. The Shift to Park repair was not. I was told Chevrolet requires replacement of the entire shifter assembly at a cost of about $500, even though the failed component may be only a small, inexpensive switch. I asked about warranties or customer-assistance options and was told there were none. I contacted GM Customer Care myself and explained the situation, my loyalty to the brand, and the financial difficulty of paying for the repair as a full-time college student. My late father worked as a Chevrolet service advisor for nearly 30 years, and my family has always owned GM vehicles. GM declined to help and told me any assistance would need to come from the dealership. My advisor then said the dealership could not help either, other than financing. Since I need a reliable car, I reluctantly authorized the repair. Because I had expected only an oil change, I planned to wait. Once I was told the repairs would take all day, transportation became an issue. The dealership normally provides Lyft or Uber rides only within 10 miles, and I live more than 20 miles away. After several hours and limited communication, they provided a rental. I appreciated that, and it was the best part of the experience. By 4:50 p.m., I still had no update, even though I was told the car should be finished that day and my advisor knew I lived more than 30 minutes away. I called and reached her. She said the technicians were finishing up and that she had about 20 minutes of paperwork left. I reminded her I still had to drive through rush-hour traffic and refill the rental. She said that was fine and that she would see me soon. When I arrived, my advisor was gone. Her office door was open, but she never returned. While waiting, I noticed customer paperwork containing personal information sitting openly on the desk in an unlocked office accessible directly from outside. That was concerning. The cashier had not been told I was coming, had no notes, and had to search for my paperwork. She could not explain the repairs but could collect my payment. I returned the rental, signed several documents, and left without ever speaking to my advisor again. There was no call, no handoff, and no explanation of the work performed. When I got to my car, I found a wadded-up plastic seat cover on the seat and a greasy paper floor mat still inside. I had to remove them myself and was left with greasy hands for the drive home. I also noticed the oil-change reminder sticker had a date several months in the past and a 3,000-mile interval. This is a Chevrolet Volt, not a conventional gasoline-only vehicle. Most of my driving is on battery power, and the oil-life monitor accounts for actual engine use. Between the incorrect date and mileage interval, I was left wondering whether the dealership understands its own vehicles. This was not my first poor experience here. During my previous oil change, I also raised the Shift to Park issue and was dismissively told that if they could not reproduce it, there was nothing they could do. Finance officer Kevin was also very friendly and a pleasure to work with. Because of the three of them I felt very appreciated as a customer. Yesterday my wife, daughter and I went to pick up the car. I bought it for my daughter. We were greeted by Mark and made to feel welcomed by other staff.
