I returned to the store couples times, the staff didn't know what to do & the manager wasn't around. A female staff was very rude & held hostage my receipts, although I asked her to release the receipts back to me several times, she wouldn't & yelling at me that I only eligible for $22 refund, she refused to look at the amount of sales tax printed on the receipt. This is not only about the $2.26 sales tax on the core that wasn't refunded to me, but more about the store reaping off its customers for not having correctly working software in refunding the amount to its customers plus not very knowledgeable staff about the refund process & inapropriate female staff who treated store customer rudely & held hostage customer's receipts. The store & the corporate need to do some deep training to its staff & to correct its software to refund customer's money in full.

I had to swap out the battery on my wife's Toyota Camry over the weekend and had an extremely…read moredifficult time as I lacked a rachet set at home. While most cars, including my Lexus, has bolts that are easily removed with simply a wrench, Toyota decided they needed to put two different sized bolts to secure the battery in place (a 10mm for the terminal, and a 12mm for the battery frame). And to top it off, the battery frame does not have crossbars that are easily accessible. Instead, you have to finagle a socket extender in between an incredibly small, tight space that only a small child's hand would ever be able to wiggle through. Needless to say, without the proper tools, I could not do this job myself. I called AutoZone and asked if they would be able to assist me despite the fact that I purchased the battery elsewhere, and the person on the phone stated that it would not be a problem. Although this turned out to NOT be the case per their policy when I arrived, Douglas still volunteered to replace the battery for me when I discovered their tools that they lend to customers lacked a socket extender of the proper size. Although the total job took about 20mins due to the poor design employed by Toyota engineers, Douglas still generously assisted with this replacement without any complaints. I really appreciate this outstanding level of service and will definitely go out of my way to this AutoZone for all my auto parts needs!

I only discovered it when I arrived to pick it up... after the work was already completed. At that point, I had no real choice. They had my car, I'd arrived via Uber, and there was no practical way to go withdraw $800 cash from the ATM at that time of day even if I could get to one. I was effectively stuck. The repair itself (replacing an oxygen sensor) cost about $800, which already felt high. A quick Google check shows the typical range is $300-$600. The part itself costs about $200 for the genuine Toyota part and my statement says that they took 1.5 hours to complete the work so labor accounts for the remaining $600 of cost which means I paid $400/hour here. On top of that, I was charged another 3% simply for paying by card. For those doing the math, it's true, $25 more isn't a fortune. But the issue is the lack of transparency and the feeling of being squeezed for every dime with no way out. Fees like this should be clearly disclosed upfront, verbally and prior to the work being done... not quietly added when the customer no longer has options. To make matters worse, the repair took three days, despite being promised it would be completed in one. I'm sharing this so others can make an informed decision. There are many reputable Toyota mechanics in the Bay Area who do quality work without surprise fees, and keeping your car for 3 days for 1.5 hours of work. I'll be taking my business to literally any of them going forward.

Well needless to say I was duped! I was so ready to walk away from the Hanlees group entirely. Everything changed when I got a call from Jim Totah, the Director of Sales Operations. Although the issue began at the Hyundai store, Jim is located at Hanlees Toyota, and the difference in management and atmosphere was night and day. From his very first message, I could hear a level of sincerity and kindness that reminded me of an uncle or a grandfather(someone who cared about me). He didn't treat me like a "sale" he treated me like a neighbor. He understood my hesitation to return to the Hyundai location and graciously met me at the Toyota dealership instead to ensure I felt safe and comfortable. Jim is a true hero who restored my faith by personally sitting down with me to go through every single line of my contract. He took the time to listen to what I needed. He said he wanted me "to be happy" with my purchase! He corrected several significant financial discrepancies that had been added to my initial agreement at the other location. Once we reached an agreement, he introduced me to Felipe Cortez, the Sales Manager at Toyota, to finalize the paperwork. Jim was right to have total confidence in him. Felipe is a complete stand up guy and, like Jim and myself, he too grew up in San Francisco. I felt 100% respected working with both of them. They ensured my 2026 Santa Fe included the full 10-year/100,000-mile warranty and the 3-year maintenance I was originally promised, all while bringing the total cost down to a fair and sustainable level for my family's budget. However, I noticed that as the gentleman in front of me pulled in, they decided to close up all of their base. That was interesting, considering the fact that they were going to be closed in 32 minutes. They say they close at 7:00 and at 6:28 they were closing up for the day. It wasn't like they were servicing so many people, they weren't gonna have time to get to us, there was no when they're getting serviced. The red headed manager was talking to the person in the car in front of me and took a long time talking to it. I eventually noticed that he was signaling for me to drive around to the other side of him and that's when I noticed that the man he was talking to was black, like me. This guy pulled off, after being told that they were closed and that they couldn't get any tire service. I explained my situation and told him that I just wanted to get air for my tire. I bought my tires at their sister station and I tried to put air into my tire and it wouldn't take. This guy said that he couldn't service me because they were emptying the air tanks and that it would talk 1/2 hour or so to turn it on again. Are you kidding me??? So I had to drive two blocks home on a tire that was flat to my rim. But, I was very lucky because he told me to go to two other tire shops in the area, something I would not have had to do if they would not have closed 32 minutes before they advertised. This reminds me of the southern stories I've heard of when Black people are driving through the south and wanted to find a hotel. They pulled into a hotel where it said no vacancy, and once the person operating hotel saw they were black the no vacancy sign would light up , I see their "no vacancy" sign or their "I don't wanna serve Black people sign" and it is time for them to close! I also want them to know that I sent my money elsewhere because I want to work with people are willing to give tires, the Black people and that should not be hard. This is my second interaction like this where I felt like I was turned away. I love the idea of having a tire shop down the street to get service, however, I hate the fact that I go in and I'm treated like a second class citizen. Maybe they do this because they are under new management. Maybe they don't like money from black peoples in their neighborhood. But the next day I drove almost one mile away and got proper service. They found the hole and offered a new or used tire, as they should. Because they actually want to service their customers.
