Today I went to Avalon Café and Boba because they had a sign out front that said tacos. I love tacos and I'm always trying to support local businesses in Carson. Customer service was excellent, and the price was good as well. It was three tacos with two types of salsa, pico de gallo, guacamole, and grilled jalapeños. You can have a clean location, great customer service, good prices, but at the end of the day, it's the taste of the food that matters. This restaurant fell short in every way. The tortillas taste like they were warmed up in a microwave. The Carne Asada, pork and chicken all have no flavor . They were not seasoned well at all. The guacamole was a little brown like it had been sitting for a while. The pico de gallo is not good as well, not seasoned no spiciness at all. unfortunately, this is definitely not a place you want to visit for tacos. I should've known better based on the name of the restaurant but again just trying to support local businesses as they diversify to try to stay open. Maybe their coffee is better. This was a definite miss!!!

After the Yelp event I also purchased additional items. The review below is based on purchases made and not the Yelp event. I arrived this Sunday around 10 and the parking was easy. I am not sure how parking would be during the weekdays. The staff was very friendly and professional. The staff had a good vibe with the customers and they helped us use the photo booth. The photo booth was cool. The wall décor gave this place a nice vibe. There was not a ton of seating but enough and they also had some outdoor seating. I enjoyed the "Netflix and Crunch" cookie which was sweet, thick, and had a density of flavors. It reminded me of Recess and Chocolate and Cookie, so, it did the job. I enjoyed the Ham and Swiss Croissant because the ham was cooked and the bread was soft inside and lightly toasty on the outside; I appreciate that a lot. After my next hike or jog on the West side, I will stop by here and get something to bring home. This location has become my go-to spot for coffee. One of my favorite beverages is a large Spanish latte with three shots. In addition, I have to get chicken pesto around lunchtime because it is delicious and has a good balance of flavors. Due to the size of the salted caramel cookies my favorite, I only eat half. Delicious!

Stopped by while we were in the area after hearing about from a friend, and it's definitely a solid spot to grab a quick boba, smoothie, coffee. What was pleasantly surprising was the food though. It was really good. Drinks wise, I got the Mudslide shake, which is peanut butter based, really good and filling. Also tried the watermelon chamoy smoothie, which I really liked too. Foodwise, we tried: the breakfast burrito, chicken pesto sandwich, the pastrami melt, and the avanchelero tacos. The breakfast burrito was solid and probably my favorite but the chicken pesto sandwich was really good too. Overall, we really enjoyed everything. We'll definitely come back when we're in the area, probably on an Ikea run.

Scrambled Feta Breakfast Croissant is my favorite! The beef tacos were good and nicely presented. They were able to accommodate my pregnancy needs of having well-done eggs and beef and non caffeinated drinks, taro milk tea. Yum! The owner, Mark, recommended Tiger Boba tea as a decaffeinated drink as well. Will try that next. Thanks!

I frequent this place often since I work in the area. Coffee is always on point! I've had the Thai tea as well but I am a coffee snob at heart lol. Offering Vietnamese coffee is a plus!! Boba is fresh. I've only had breakfast once here- feta breakfast croissant. It was yummy and huge. Definitely shareable! I appreciate the owner's interactions with his customers. Coming from behind the counter to hand us our orders is such a nice touch and I can tell he is grateful to be in business. I wish nothing but best for this gem! I will be back :)

We were around the area and decided to try this place. The food is amazing and the combos are worth it!! You get a sandwich, drink and a dessert for a great price. The service is great everyone is super welcoming and friendly, you can tell they love their job. The owner is super nice and talkative and super attentive. It's a hidden gem but it's worth it!! The ambiance is super relaxed and comfy. It's perfect if you want to come with friends and chill. The peaches and cream is to die for!!!

Amazing service. They really care about getting you a drink that youll specifically like. I got a lavender matcha and it was honestly some of the best that I've had in a while, I dont usually do flavored matcha but the lavender was sooo good, not too sweet and excellent matcha. Will definitely be coming back.

Both the owner and staff were very friendly and down to earth. The drinks spoke for themselves. In my strawberry matcha latte, they used high quality matcha imported from Kyoto, along with real blended strawberries. The pineapple and mango smoothie that I had also ordered used real fruits. Great menu, parking lot is tight and limited. Took 30+ minutes to get 2 drinks. Drinks are a convenience drink, don't worry want to wait that long. also, verifies the tea isn't fresh brewed. What's funny is this place is near Dominguez and I just never saw it until today. Was looking for some drinks and saw this place and I was like oh crap, that's like a 1 minute drive away. So I went and I loved it! Place is pretty hidden I would say since it's near a busy intersection but it's easy to get in. The inside and outside look great. My drink was bomb too. The worker said he would have my drink ready in less than two minutes and when he gave to me, I'm pretty sure it was less than one minute. They quick with it. Man was funny and a kind person. Had their Banh Mi and it was very good but I've had better for sure, everything was flavorful for the price and the spicy sauce they had on the side made it a bit better. Literally love this place to death!!! My Saturday breakfast joint. Mark always ensures our order is correct and super tasty. I recommend everything lol especially the tots. My friend got the iced cheese coffee with biscoff, which was pretty strong and tasty. The restroom was not terrible, but could have been cleaner.

My best friend took me here on a weekend afternoon, and even then there was a line, although it was manageable and mostly stayed inside the shop. Because of that experience, I knew The Nook was popular, but I wasn't prepared for what I encountered on a weekday morning. I wanted to pick up a coffee before work, so I actually planned ahead. Before leaving home, I checked the mobile website expecting that, given the obvious demand, there might be an order-ahead option. Unfortunately, there isn't one. So I gave myself an additional 30 minutes specifically for parking, waiting in line, ordering, and waiting for the drink to be prepared. I figured that should be more than enough for a morning coffee pickup. I arrived around 7:30 AM, and as I walked toward The Nook from the south side of The Enclave, I could already see the line stretching out of the door and into the courtyard. I was honestly shocked. There were easily 15-20 people ahead of me. I decided to give it a fair chance and got in line. After 10 minutes, the line had barely moved. At that point, I walked out. I understand that popular businesses get busy, especially in the morning. But there is a difference between being busy and having a customer wait in a line of 15-20 people with virtually no movement at 7:30 AM, particularly when there is no mobile ordering or order-ahead option. For a coffee shop with this level of demand, I find the lack of an ordering system especially frustrating. If you're going to consistently have lines extending outside the business during the morning rush, there should be some way for customers who are trying to grab a drink on their way to work to order ahead. And that's really my issue: the customer experience doesn't seem designed for people who need coffee efficiently. If you're coming here on a weekend, have nowhere to be, or are willing to dedicate an unpredictable amount of time to waiting, you may have a completely different experience. But if you're trying to get coffee before work, I would strongly recommend accounting for significantly more time than you think you'll need -- or having a backup plan. I no longer work as close to The Nook, and I don't drink coffee after noon, so I don't have much reason to make a special trip. Unless I'm conveniently nearby and see little to no line, I won't be making another attempt anytime soon. The Nook clearly has a loyal following, but popularity shouldn't come at the expense of basic convenience. If the demand is consistently this high, the ordering process needs to catch up with it.

Even so, it was still a tasty drink. The inside of the shop is really cute and very clean. I noticed a few people working on their laptops while I was there, and it seemed like a nice place to hang out for a while. They also don't blast music in the background, so it's easy to have a conversation or get some work done. As Alison C. pointed out, "Chinollo is very unique because it's the owner is Cuban born, Peruvian raised and of Chinese heritage, so the menu is a mix of Latin American and Asian fusion." All credits to them for this because the menu makes so much sense in that light. There are 2 different and super convenient ways to order: If you want to talk to someone, you can go up to the cashiers; if you don't want to talk to anyone, there are 2 self-service kiosks. While there is seating indoors, I've always come after work hours and at that time, it seems to be primarily a to-go restaurant. I've been slowly working my way through their Wonder Bowls option - and what I've tried so far are: 0. Base options: Rice, ancient grains (mix of quinoa and other grains), raw greens, garlic noodle, or even a half-half combo of any two options. I agree with Belle C.'s comment about the garlic noodles in that it's "not garlicky enough for me, but maybe it's meant for the white American palate)". Go to any Asian restaurant, Chinese, Indo-Chinese, Viet, and the garlic noodles have tonnes of fragrant & noticeable garlic in it while this simply did not. I like getting rice or ancient grains (for extra fibre) as my base over the greens or garlic noodles. Overall, a great spot with fast & lovely service, healthy & delicious portions of food (enough for two meals for me), and delicious drinks that I recommend especially for to-go orders after work. Also lovely for workers nearby to sit down or get something quick, filing, and tasty! 1. Baja Bowl (GF, RV): Choice of base. Black beans, sweet corn, avocado, cashew-chipotle sauce, pico de gallo. Choice of free-range chicken, organic tofu or pulled pork. For steak add $1. Other choices of protein also available. I love getting this with tofu for an extra dose of fibre from veggies; that sweetness of sweet corn with the salty-creaminess of the black beans go so well with the creamy sauce. 2. Farm Veggie Bowl (V): Vegan. Choice of base. Best of season grilled vegetables, cashew-chipotle sauce, hydro watercress. Add black beans on request. Available: add protein of choice. One of my favourite veggie bowls; I do recommend adding the black beans for more fibre & protein. Such a delicious and filling bowl that's fresh. 3. Chico Cubano (GF, RV): Choice of base. Pulled pork Cuban style, mojo criollo sauce, black beans, red pickled onions, parsley, sweet plantains. other choices of proteins available. This is my absolute favourite dish specifically because of the black beans; I enjoy it so much that I've been asking for a side of them as well. It's a hefty portion of pulled pork as well and 3 chunky plantains cooked to perfection. I do wish there was little bit more of the picked onions to cut through the fatty pork as well as the mojo criollo sauce, but other than that, if you get a bite of everything, it's delicious. 4. Saltado Peruano (GF, RV): Choice of base. Sauteed onion, tomatoes, huacatay sauce, aji panca, cilantro, potato fries. Choice of free-range chicken or tofu. For steak, add $1. Other choices of protein also available. The huacatay with the steak, onions, and tomatoes is so fresh and filling; I like to dip the potatoes in the aji panca after a few bites of everything else. The potatoes are a thick cut, so it can become a tough bite at times. Pro-tip: Eat this one right away as the potatoes can get soggy pretty quickly. I do wish they gave more aji, but other than that, a delicious dish, especially with steak (which I prefered over chicken or tofu). 5. El Koreano (GF, RV): Choice of base. Grilled certified angus steak, baby bok choy, cucumber, gochujang, house kimchi, sweet umami glaze. Other choices of protein also available. I've had this, but I can't say it's my favourite; I would personally go get banchan from a Korean restaurant and enjoy that as a "bowl" than this. There's something about the house kimchi that I don't enjoy as much as I do from Korean establishments. My real complaint isn't about the food, but the to-go container; since it's not plastic, it gets soggy very quickly and loses shape from all the food in the container, causing it to scrape into the food when I use a spoon or fork to eat. My go-to drink is the Zingy; the blend of tartiness from the lemon, the bright punch from the ginger, and Its ingredients are: Fresh ginger, lemon, mint, pineapple, cayenne pepper, raw organic sugar, sparkling water. My partner likes the honey lemonade, especially because you can adjust the sweetness, and actually taste the honey. Its got freshly squeezed lemon, raw organic honey, organic raw sugar.
