I had the best breakfast from Avenue Cafe delivered via DoorDash while in town for work. I ordered their famous iced coffee and it was fantastic! I rarely drink iced coffee but I decided to give theirs a try. It was perfect. Not too sweet, not too strong. It was just right. I also ordered a yogurt parfait that was amazing with crunchy yummy granola!! For my entree I tried the salmon bagel sandwich. It was also delicious. They packaged everything really well too and I appreciated that. All of my food was really great and it made my long work day so much better. Avenue Cafe is a great local coffee shop. You can sit enjoy your food an people watch or grab and go. They offer an nice selection of breakfast items and pastries. I give them bonus points for offering a vegan bagel sandwich that is very tasty! Pro tip: there is only one restroom so if seeing folks line up to use the facilities is annoying to you, don't sit near the coffee station because you will have a prime seat to anxious folks doing the pee-pee dance. read more

So, the Wife and I decided to try this local spot about two minutes from our hotel. I have found myself amazed by establishments here in New Orleans that don't look like much from the outside but are gems on the inside. This establishment is no different. It is very clean and laid-back, and the staff is very friendly. We had the vegan bagel sandwiches, and they were awesome. I had the Chai Tea with Oak Milk and while it was pretty good it could have been a little hotter. We will visit again whenever we are in the Crescent City. Updated review: I frequent this place somewhat often, but I do not like that the tip option on the card machine has changed. It does not let you do a custom tip and forces you to do 15% + or no tip. I try to bring cash with me but I don't always have that on hand. As much as I would love to tip 15-25% to the staff- I can't afford that (especially coming from food & beverage myself.) It is not full service so 15-25% is a lot when you're ordering more than just a drip coffee. I LOVE the granola fruit bowl here, and the coffee dressing station is the BEST. Latte only comes in one size which is kind of annoying when you have people ordering who don't understand coffee in america is super sized. My brother loves the croissant sand-which, and chai tea. They also have Mimosas, Bloody Marys, Screwdrivers and Irish Coffee. I had the sausage, muffin sandwich with coffee. It was the perfect start to a fun day in NOLA. I love seeing books as soon as I walked into the café. They have a large selection of pastries and hot cold beverages. The first day I ordered their green smoothie and it was quite tasty. I came back the second day and ordered a dirty Matcha latte with oat milk. All the employees there were so friendly and welcoming. The place was very clean including the bathroom. First impression of the cafe is homey and welcoming. I ordered the Green Smoothie and it was really good. I wanted to get in my veggies and nutrients, and I expected it to possibly taste too "healthy". There are no added sugars, and it was perfectly balanced between "greeny" and sweet! The smoothie is about 9 dollars, so it definitely is more pricey. With that said I would order again. We went to this place the following morning, and it is perfect for a little snack before a big breakfast at a sit down. I come here about once a month, and my needs are pretty simple so this place works well. I always get drip coffee, which taste fine, they have a variety of milk to choose from and that's always cool to see. And I get some kind of croissant, usually the almond because they have good ones with almond paste in them. it's a little pricey maybe, but they're trying to survive on St Charles and so I get it. I don't have a problem with that. Understand if people have more complex needs and more specific orders than this and that. But as a simple coffee shop to get a nice sugary carbohydrate with caffeine, it's great. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite and wasn't disappointed. They have lots of sandwich and salad options, plus baked goods and brewed teas. I went with the chicken salad which I really enjoyed. It tasted like it was seasoned with curry, yum. It came with a side so I got the side salad which was also good. I ordered the green tea as well. All of their teas are served unsweetened but they have syrups and sugar so you can add it if you'd like. I recommend this place if you want a light lunch! read more

Stopped at Avenue Cafe for a quick bite to eat before an appointment. I was torn between the breakfast Bagel Sandwich and the Italian sandwich for lunch. I went with the Italian sandwich and honestly, I was slightly disappointed. When I think of an Italian sandwich, I think of a hot sandwich with all the cuts and pressed and/or toasted. It came on toasted bread and cut in half. It was just ok for me. But I would go back to try the Bagel sandwich for breakfast. Nice little place that I would recommend if you want something quick and easy. They have great premade pastries, both sweet and savory. The staff is always helpful and patient with all the customers. They have smoothies that look tasty and are fairly healthy options. They also have great coffee and specialty ice coffee and others. If you would rather have a cocktail, they can accommodate the standard Bloody Mary, screwdriver, mimosa, or Irish coffee, but I didn't see anything else. Bitter, horrible espresso. The pastries and basic breakfasts are pretty good for anywhere other than pre-Ida and pre-COVID New Orleans, once America's food Mecca. In a New Orleans where so many food places remain shuttered from the flight of culinary and service people caused by the twin catastrophes? Beggars can't be choosers. With only one equally challenged competitor, in the Ponchetrain Hotel, without going way out of the way in search of breakfast, it's a winner, even if I have to drink water, and find a PJs or a Starbucks, later. The salmon bagel is flavor overload. Everything bagel. Overly flavored cream cheese. Capers onions and some very iffy cucumber piled on in rite homage to what a stock salmon bagel is supposed to be. I did it on a plain bagel and it was too much. The salmon, which is delicious, on its own, gets lost in the culinary brutality. The savory pastry with cheese and herbs that is a sort of a kouign amann was delicious. The bigger problem is, like many NOLA eateries, there's not much of it. When you only put out a tiny handful of your pastries, a day, to a line of people 10-15 long all morning, on a Wednesday where surviving restaurants take day 3-4 days off, every week, because of this and that shortage, you're not serving the community or the large legions of tourists, well. You're wasting the opportunity to establish the place, as well, with tank coffee out of a poorly calibrated machine. Service is pleasant but stressed at the counter. The only person who was truly pleasant was the gal dropping food, who had more ink on her than the pages of a Charles Dickens novel. (People, of the ADD Internet Age, who get bored reading a gator farm tourism pamphlet, ask a grandparent, who remembers rotary phones, Yellow Pages, and books, about that joke.) If Streetcar Cafe, next door, was still open, as were several of the nearby hotel restaurants, this place would be a whistling ghost town, with coffee, quantity and counter service fails like that. I hate leaving bad reviews, especially when the staff is super nice and the establishment is cute. But the food and coffee here just did not wow me. I came in twice, the first time getting a NOLA Style Iced coffee and a fruit bowl. Fruit bowl was pretty small and costed 7.75. The coffee was good but had a ton of grounds at the bottom so I couldn't finish it. The second time I ordered a cold brew with vanilla, no milk. Anywhere else I've ordered this coffee I receive a coffee that is pretty strong with a hint of vanilla, this coffee tasted like more syrup than coffee itself. The BLT was good, but the bread was disappointing for the price. My boyfriend ordered fresh squeezed OJ, which was yummy but overpriced. We came here a few times bc of the proximity to our hotel, but I left disappointed each time read more

The drip coffee is SO good, and you can even get a traditional New Orleans Cafe au Lait. My favorite thing is the fresh juice- cold pressed!
