I was so disappointed. They DO NOT follow COVID protocols at all. I went inside to get a sandwich and NO ONE was wearing masks! Got about 9(18 halves of sandwiches)-All the bags fell right through when picked up. All pickles were wrapped in plastic and leaked through. What a mess!! I went here late night with my bf while we were in the area looking for food and didn't want to get fast food. This Area doesn't have much options after 9pm lol. This place is in a mini Mart and open late which is pretty awesome. We got the Italian sub and it was huge. The sandwich was tasty and good. We also got chip and soda to make a combo. I would come back here if im In the area. I would try the burrito next time. The services was awesome and friendly. Parking here is not too bad either you park in the front or the back. Yummmy sandwiches which we happily had a picnic with at the Cherokee Lodge where we stayed ( awesome b and b) but back to the sandwiches, so great, I had a california club and the bread was fantastic yummy toppings. It's tucked in a liquor store, so if you blink you'll miss it. It takes them a little bit to make your sandwich but the wait is SO worth it! My wife and I both got the Coronado and it was delicious. I picked up the phone and it was a customer that said her husband ordered one orange avenue and one spicy chicken. And when he Got home there were two Orange Avenue and no spicy chicken. I said how long ago did that happen and she said 15 minutes ago. She told me that she wanted a refund on her card or she was going to do a review on yelp. I said to her "15 minutes ago we were here but no one had placed any orders." But she insist that she placed the ordered 15 minutes ago. She said that we are in the military, I told her "that we did not take the order, we did not see you, we cannot give you a refund to your card because we were in the night shift not the morning shift which were the ones that took you order." So I also said "And if you want to refund come tomorrow from 6 Am to 4 PM. And bring the sandwich and then the owner would be able to give you refund." She said "we cannot come tomorrow." So I said " what can I do to make you happy, can I make you a spicy? Give you credit for a sandwich." She said "no we live 30 minutes away." I asked "what I can do for you then," She keeps arguing and then she said that she wanted a refund to her credit card. And we can't just give anybody a refund over the phone especially if we don't know who they are. Especially when we were the ones that did not sell her the sandwich it was MORNING shift. And she said "I cant eat the sandwich because I am ALLERGIC TO BACON" I told her "okay I make you a A sandwich and you can come and pick it up whenever, today, or tomorrow I will give you credit for a sandwich". Now she told me that "we were "20 minutes (not 30) away that we can't do this trip." The way that I noticed when she started changing her words I started feeling like there was something fishy about it. First thing, the Orange Ave., Italian DOES NOT have bacon. Second thing, she said she ordered the sandwich 15 minutes ago but there was no order 15 minutes ago. Third thing, How is it that she said that her husband pick them up 15 minutes ago when he got home found out there are two orange when she said she lives 20 minutes away. That is why I did not do the refund to her card and I ask her tell her again "all I can do for you I give you credit or make you another sandwich the spicy chicken you like." Look like she had no other option so she said "OK I take the spicy chicken and I come pick it up later tonight." I am Mark I work at national city for three years dealing with the military and I work over 20 years dealing with the military people and I trust them and the best people I have a deal with. They are my best customers. But this woman I never see a military woman treat me like this. So I didn't think that she was in the military. And when she comes I talk to her where she work and she was definitely not in the military she said my husband is in the military. And I thought that there would be no way anyone in the military would be so rude like this. And instant karma for her. When she came to pick up the replacement spicy chicken sandwich She said she did not eat her husband sandwich because there is bacon in it as soon as she said that we told her "do you realize there's bacon in the spicy chicken" she said "no, it does not say it on the menu" LOL so we showed her the menu it is LITERALLY the second ingredient that says it on the menu. Seriously great sandwiches! Very large, and really quality ingredients - real meat, not overly processed. The warm Super Orange Ave sub is a favorite but we've had others and they're great as well. Avenue subs shares its building with a liqour store.. or better yet, it has its own corner inside the store, literally. The menu is simple and the value is fair. Its not very appealing and unless you know where to go to get here, you'll probably never know it exists. They pack their sandwiches pretty good and quality is alright. They were out of squaw, which was a shame, and I asked for no onions and was still given them. I want to give this place a lower rating but the customer service and the sandwhich was satisfying enough to give it the A-OK. I love this place. Actually, both liquor stores on Orange make great sandwiches, but Ave Subs is still hands down my favorite. I stopped in years ago to just grab a Red Bull and smelled all the deliciousness and had to take a peek. Now, 5 years later, it is my go breakfast and lunch sandwich place on the Island. The staff is always SUPER friendly and helpful and the sandwiches are HUGE and delicious. But, I still want to know if they ever sell those high $$$ top-shelf fancy liquors! I work on Orange within walking distance from many places to eat, and honestly Nathan's Avenue Subs beats out Subway, the Vons deli, and even Which Wich! Yes, you read right; I submit that the sandwiches from this little add-on to the liquor store are in fact superior to the dedicated sandwich shop across the street! It took me a while to try it, because come on, who buys sandwiches from a liquor store when there's a Which Wich across the street? But I have been back several times a week since that first day I tried them, and am now a loyal fan. Now, on to the sandwiches: First off, the Tuna: Nathan uses Albacore instead of the Chunk Light that Subway uses. Superior ingredients make for superior sandwiches. Also, when you compare with Which Wich and Vons, the tuna-to-mayo ratio is just better at Avenue Subs. Next you have the Meatball: At Subway, they used to make us put only 8 for a footlong, and if someone asked for more you had to charge them extra. At Avenue Subs, they literally put 10 per half, for a total of 20 on the whole sandwich! It's wonderful! You're actually getting a meatball sub, instead of a marinara sauce sub with the occasional meat thrown in. Can't forget the Island BBQ Ribs sub! This sub is a real delight and puts the McRib to shame! (lol) But in all seriousness, if you've got a craving for a typical rib sandwich, give Nathan's Island BBQ Ribs sandwich a shot! I've gone many times and tried many subs, and I can honestly say that I have not once been disappointed with anything I've ordered from Nathan's place. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed. I was just asked to leave the store because I wasn't wearing a mask. I get it, I'm supposed to have one on me but I forgot it at home and there was no sign on the door stating to wear one. I was in town and tried this place based on the good yelp reviews. I wanted to try the tuna and the meatball so I ordered halves of each. After 25 minutes of waiting, the subs were ready. At this point I was a little annoyed but I understood because this place only has 1 employee doing everything. My meatball sub had no cheese on it even though I asked for American. Also it BARELY had any marinara sauce on it. I went inside to ask for cheese and more sauce and the lady said she ran out of sauce and that's why she didn't put much on my sub. I couldn't believe it but I had her make me another tuna sub instead. I unwrapped my tuna sub and it appeared to be mixed with a yellow mustard like substance. I went in to ask her about it and she said it was mayonnaise but I could tell it definitely wasn't. Her excuse was that she didn't mix the tuna and someone else did. She offered to remake the tuna but at this point I didn't wanna wait for her to redo the whole batch of tuna so I got my money back and left very unhappy. I do not recommend this place to anyone.....worst subs I've ever had. My wife ordered a veggie deluxe and asked for no mustard and to add jack cheese. She actually enjoyed her sub but it had mustard and no jack cheese on it. Very disappointing! read more
