I have a special place in my heart for Waldorf Astoria properties and this hotel is quite beautiful. The Aveo Restaurant is elegantly casual but misses slightly on a couple of fronts. The banquets are awkward and the bar is just too much. Do I really want to look at four large screen TVs at an ocean view restaurant? We were served fried plantains and a dipper that was perfectly outrageous. Five star. Our calamari was fresh but undercooked even after asking for extra crispy. After almost an hour we asked for our entrees and we were told my wife's poke was holding up the order. (Rule #1 Don't blame the customer) When my $28 burger came w cheese I did not ask for - it was just warm and my fries were wilted and soggy. Obviously had been sitting under a light for half an hour. Since I didn't eat any after the first fry our waiter asked if I would like to take them home! I know it's hard to get good help and difficult to train but you've just got to have someone who can orchestrate a top shelf experience. We walked in and the whole restaurant was beautiful, it had a great atmosphere. We had just finished with the spa which was amazing so we were expecting the same level of quality since this restaurant is also inside of the Waldorf. We had to seat ourselves in a pretty much empty restaurant because they were understaffed, which I understand for small businesses but as we know the Waldorf has plenty of money to invest in the right amount of employees. The service was friendly but we didn't see much of them at no fault of their own. The food is really where I have my issues. They are charging Waldorf prices for home town buffet food. We came here for breakfast while we were waiting for our room to be ready. View was nice but food was subpar. For a restaurant inside of an upscale resort, the food was just okay. Edible but for something that's NOT cheap, just edible is unacceptable. Now onto service- which made this below average experience even worse. Jose was our server. Aside from taking our order and giving us water once (never refilled, I myself had to go up to the bar with my glass to ask for more), he never really attended to us. When it was time to pay the bill, 2 of us paid cash and the other 2 paid with cards, we asked him if that was ok and Jose sarcastically giggled and said "Do I have a choice?". This is not us just being overly sensitive but we all considered this to be rude. Now, if it was something that isn't allowed or preferred he could have told us politely and we would have made something else work. For us, paying customers and actual guests of the resort, this type of treatment is revolting. Please do better. read more

We recently hosted a client event at Aveo Table + Bar. The venue is stunning and overlooks a magnificent vista above the ocean. We first hosted our guests for a reception on the outdoor terrace before moving into the Clemente Private dining room. The coastal color palate of the space, quiet ambiance and the grand architecture of the Waldorf Astoria made for a relaxing and luxurious evening. While we had arranged a Prix Fixe menu, everything was delicious. The portions of fish and meat were generous and prepared perfectly. I picked this place for the great views of the ocean, although almost all the restaurants had a great view of the ocean at this resort! I was able to make same day reservations for a party of 6 for outdoor patio seating. I picked this place for the mid level price point at this resort. Our reservation was at 5:30pm but I failed to note the earlier sun set in November, so unforunately, by the time 5:30 rolled around, it was already dark! Upon entering the entrance on the second floor of the hotel, the host checked me in and had us wait in the "lounge" seating area while they got our table ready. The inside of the restaurant had expansive ceilings and made for a very airy restaurant. The restaurant had elegant decor to go with the ambiance. After a couple minutes, our table was ready and we were seating outside. Even though we were seated on the patio, we were seated far away from the railing closer to the ocean, but by this time since it was dark, I didn't mind. The menu had some great choices. We ordered the jamon flatbread appetizer, the short ribs on mashed yucca, the chilean sea bass, the filet mignon and shrimp, and the kids mac and cheese. Each entree was between $51-$55. They also gave us yucca chips to start. Everything was super flavorful and the short ribs were very soft. Even though everything was really good and very nicely plated, the portions were very small and left us wanting more! The service here was top notch and the waiters were very attentive with water, and checking in on us. They bill came with a 20% gratuity already added on it. The proteins in the fish sandwich and reuben were tender and flavorful with fresh bread and piping hot fries, just know that the prices are commensurate with the resort. I feel like we have experienced this a lot more than usual since we are visiting, but profiling is so real. My husband asked for a table for 2 people, the hostess told him it was going to be a wait & they had no tables available. No problem. An older group of 5 is behind him, audibly confirms with the hostess that there are no tables available for walk ins & she seats them immediately. We were the only group on the waitlist & only table not being sat. Frustrating, but since we are guests at the hotel, it was too much hassle to leave & find somewhere else. What an exceptional experience! The service was wonderful, from the moment we stepped inside the restaurant to when we left. Everyone was genuinely friendly, helpful and professional. Our waiter was Bruce who was super nice. The gentleman who kept bringing our items (I didn't catch his name), was very nice, helpful, and friendly, also. The food tasted wonderful. The Yucca Fries were exceptionally good. The fried cauliflower tasted great, but we thought it could have been crispier. The lentil soup was very basic and average. The bread and olive spread was very good. The chopped vegetables that came with it were too plain. Some sauce would have made them tastier. The vegetarian Lentil Bowl was very delicious and the ingredients were fresh. The birthday cake tasted VERY good and the personalized birthday wish made it even more enjoyable! The view was spectacular and we were lucky enough to be sat at the best table in the entire restaurant (thank you Marc)! Why didn't I give the "overall" category 5 stars? When I got home, I checked the bill (I don't like to check the bill in front of my guests) and noticed that we were charged for 2 Lentil Bowl entrees, while we ordered 1, and I was just surprised that we were charged for the birthday dessert that we didn't even order! The waiter knew that we were celebrating a birthday and brought a really delicious dessert, but then charged us for it!!! First, I got to say that the crab cake are not worth its price but oh man it's so good! I'd eat it once a week if I could. We got the Aveo burger medium rare and it was so juicy and amazing, you Forsure have to give it a try. My girlfriend is not a burger person but she loves the burger there so that says something. The server we had was really nice too, everybody there is actually pretty attentive. For dessert you can't forget to get the apple dessert it's when we came back for the second time we got two of those instead of one so yes definitely give it a try :) heads up, parking is 10 dollars. so I suggest you go kind of early so you could also enjoy the view the hotel has to offer :) if you can, book to sit outside. The views are breathtaking and I can never get enough of this hotel. Aveo is casual dinning. We sat outside to enjoy the sunset and got some drinks and bites. The steak salad was delicious and I loved the salad. The steak was supposed to be a medium but overcooked on the edges. The hamburger and truffle fries were also good although I asked for a medium well and it came out about a medium (I think the chef confused the steak and burger temperatures). I love salty truffled fries but these were a bit heavy on the salt. The chicken fingers were delicious and It was a good size for parents to share with kids if they wanted to. The staff here were all friendly. Overpriced? Absolutely but then again you pay a premium for the breathtaking views and staying at the Waldorf. read more

Yes the menu is extremely limited, and on the pricey side at that. Make sure you check the menu on the website and not Yelp, because it changes frequently and Yelp is out of date. We wanted more variety on the menu but still felt the food was well worth it. Scallops are my best recommendation, they are very fresh and rich. We are not huge steak orderers, but the filet blew our expectations. It was one of the most delicately tender cuts I've had in a while, and the flavors are extraordinary. A must get! The food selections are a bit small but the food itself was delicious. The lobster roll that is usually on their lunch menu can be ordered at dinner time as well. Just ask your server. The steaks were delicious with a nice red wine reduction sauce they gave on the side so you could pour to your hearts desire. The seabass was as good as it looked. It was flaky and flavorful. Happened to stop by Aveo Table and Bar because I'm staying at the Monarch for a conference. It's one of two restaurants on property and looked like it had a lot of different choices to offer if you weren't in the mood for the steakhouse. I was lucky enough to be seated on the patio and happened to catch the Southern California sunset, which always puts me in a good mood. Steve was my server and he was nothing short of fantastic, promote that dude! I had ordered a Jameson and ginger from the bar and when the drink came I took a sip and realized it was either a VERY strong pour, or I had gotten something else. Steve came out and apologized for serving a Glenfiddich scotch instead of the drink I ordered, and I was actually thrilled with the mistake! The scotch actually helped me relax watching the sun set and due to the mistake I ended up getting my original drink complementary. I didn't ask for a scotch, but it ended up being exactly what I needed. Lucky accident for sure. Steak came out and was cooked perfectly and was just the right size for me. The potatoes were rich and paired perfectly with the vegetables. No complaints at all about the meal and the service. I was also checked on several times to make sure the meal was perfect. It's a high-quality restaurant, and you end up paying a high quality price. Guests are sort of stuck choosing Aveo if they don't want to leave the property, and I feel like that drove up the price a bit ($90 for drinks and filet for one person). I've dined here before and the food is decent. It's not spectacular but if you are staying at the Monarch (now the Waldorf Astoria) the convenience is worth it. I came for lunch with my mother and we were completely ignored. We waited at least 30 minutes for someone to take our drink order only to see multiple people get seated and have their orders taken. No it was not busy. As we were walking out I told hostess we were leaving because nobody came to our table and he just shrugged. I recommend they work on their customer service. read more
