It has been part of the LA dining scene for over 40 years, moving through different locations while maintaining its identity and loyal following. That longevity makes sense the moment you walk in. It feels established, confident, and rooted in tradition. The restaurant is run by the Vietina family, and that presence is a big part of what makes Madeo special. You will often see owner Alfio Vietina's sons greeting guests at the door and working the room, creating that personal, hands on hospitality you see at places like Craig's or Spago. It adds a layer of warmth that balances out the otherwise upscale, polished atmosphere. The vibe is upscale without feeling overly showy. It is tucked into a part of West Hollywood that is not the most glamorous, but being right next to the One Hotel makes it easy to locate. Parking is paid, and reservations are still done the old school way by phone only. The drinks are consistently excellent. I have made my way through most of the cocktail menu, and they are always on point. The La Contessa and the Madeo Margarita are my go to orders, both incredibly well balanced and reliable every time. Food wise, the menu changes daily, which keeps things fresh and seasonal. It is definitely expensive compared to your average restaurant, but that is part of the expectation here. Once the food arrives, it makes sense. The actual pasta dishes are some of the best I have had anywhere. There is a simplicity and precision to them that really stands out. I always start with the melanzane alla parmigiana, which is hands down the best I have ever had. It is a classic Italian dish made with thin slices of eggplant that are lightly fried until tender, then layered with rich tomato sauce, melted mozzarella, and parmesan cheese before being baked. At Madeo, it comes out perfectly balanced. The eggplant is soft but not soggy, the sauce is bright and flavorful, and the cheese ties everything together without feeling too heavy. It is comforting, rich, and a perfect way to start the meal. For mains, I usually lean toward lighter dishes like the penne Madeo or the ravioli ricotta e spinaci, both consistently excellent. The rigatoni mozzarella e pomodoro is another favorite, especially if you are in the mood for something comforting but still refined. Dessert is its own experience with their well known dessert tray. Nothing overly flashy, but everything is solid and a great way to end the night. That said, on my most recent visit, the service was a noticeable miss. I visited Madeo recently to celebrate my birthday, and while the atmosphere and service were lovely, the experience was a bit of a mixed bag when it came to the value and the menu. The Food We started with the prosciutto and melon, which was absolutely delicious--the quality of the ingredients really shined there. For our mains, we ordered two pasta dishes. They were definitely "good," but both felt like they were lacking a bit of flavor and depth, especially considering the reputation of the kitchen. The Cocktail Controversy The real kicker, however, was the drinks. We ordered two cocktails, one of which turned out to be $58. It was essentially just a Margarita. When I saw the bill, I honestly thought it was a mistake and asked the server about it. He gave me a look that suggested, "Well, we use Casa Azul," as if that justified the price tag. In my opinion, you really don't need to use such an expensive tequila for a mixed drink; it was a good cocktail, but not $58 good. At that price point, the cost should definitely be listed on the menu or mentioned by the server. the restaurant itself was beautiful. unfortunately, the experience was ruined by the host's rude demeanor. The older asian woman with glasses and short hair at the front repeatedly looked my friend and me up and down from the moment we arrived. When I asked for a table for two, she said okay. I then asked if she needed my name, and she very rudely replied, "I know what you look like." When she seated us, she placed us at the bar even though we made it clear that we wanted a table. We politely let her know we had requested a table, not bar seating. She immediately became defensive and aggressively said, "There are no tables. You need a reservation. I can't just give you a table, we're packed." We calmly thanked her and said we were leaving, in which she continued to look us up and down with a rude expression on her face, as if we didn't deserve to be there (an attitude she had from the very first interaction). I understand that miscommunications happen, but it's not what you say, it's how you say it. We would have happily eaten here if she hadn't been so rude and demeaning. I also don't understand the "you don't belong here" attitude, coming from someone that is simply an employee. Since moving to Miami a decade ago, we still have not found a vongole that can rival Madeo's! Another must try here is obviously their namesake Pasta! I can't come without getting it! This entire experience was a 10/10 from beginning to end. Let me start by saying the ambiance is incredible. It's both modern and traditional at the same time, perfect dim lighting, and just overall aesthetically pleasing but not overwhelming. Love this location. Next, the service. Simply amazing. We had a great waiter - Dom. He was knowledgeable, fun, and gave great recommendations. Lastly, the food. All of our dishes were simply perfect. Some of my favorites included the meatballs, any chicken you get, the branzino, and of course the truffle and vegan pastas. Incredible. Lots of delicious desserts and drinks to choose from also! We came to celebrate our anniversary and this restaurant was a great place to do so. The food was delicious and service was great. The owner makes the rounds to greet and check in on each table throughout the night. You can see a lot of customers are welcomed like family. The salads were great. The vegetables that came with the filet mignon paired wonderfully with the meat and sauce. My favorite dish of the night was the linguine alle vongole. Absolutely delicious and the best I've ever had. Ossobuco was on they're special menu and it was so tender and flavorful. It's a large portion and definitely something to share or take home for leftovers. It was so good though that I cleaned my plate. The dessert tray they bring out to show every option definitely helps you find room in your stomach to order something sweet. The raspberry tart was lovely and tasted as good and it looked. Had dinner at Madeo tonight, and I can't believe it was my first time here! Italian is one of my favorite cuisines, and this place absolutely lives up to the hype. The service was spectacular - our wonderful waiter took care of us from start to finish and recommended the perfect dishes. For an Italian restaurant , the start was a small basket of crisp bread and we would have loved having a complimentary warm bread basket . That's Italian . The crisp bread was a sad start ! This is not a big addition for the restaurant to include in light of the prices charged. The pizza was ordered as a slice was ordered for our table --we were 9 . Then I ordered caprese and tomatoes were weird . I prefer heirloom and these I believe were Campari . Ok . The pasta was delicious as usual. The steak was just a bit better than so -so but then again we were not in Mastros or Cut . The desserts are of course wonderful . Ambiance is cramped and the prices are much as this is an iconic name Madeo. Stick to the pizza and pastas you can't go wrong and let's hope that the restaurant would place a basket of warm breads with olive oil and then that's Italian ! Try it you mayo be it . i dined at this restaurant since they were on beverly blvd basement in the late nineties. then you stop going and have forgotten about it until i saw an "influencer's" post on social media. hmm, it piqued my curiosity, so i went. because the meal was so good, like rolling your eyes good, that i asked the owner, alfi (aka mr. madeo - not his real name btw, but people call him that time to time) if he could get me a table for the following week. here i am back a week later. let me tell you, this is THE BEST italian restaurant in LA PERIOD and this is coming from someone who wouldn't include italian as their top 3 cuisines. the boss man, alfi makes the restaurant feel like a cozy neighborhood's place and not only their service a top notch, but the food speaks for itself. each dish is simple & sourced the best quality. if this is your first time going, yes, pls go, although making reservations is pain in the butt, you can't go wrong with their spaghetti and carpaccio (my fav is one with mushrooms). their artichoke salad is so simple yet divine, the meatballs are moist & tender, again, i don't even like meatballs. there is a reason why this place has been around since 1983 and still packed every night. p.s. special shout out to the waitstaff, manuel for the best water and refill bread services! he can read the room so well and respond to my request before i even opened my mouth. if that isn't operating at the highest level, not sure what is. the entire staff is classy and utmost professional. bravo, alfi & madeo team! chef's kiss* read more

I was excited to visit Madeo's new location but wasn't sure what to expect but the new location was designed with the old in mind. The use of old Italian charm from the original location was meshed well with the new. The ambiance with the lighting was set nicely. The food and service remained consistent with the old which authentic Italian food with a charm of Italian service. I live that the owner still walked around to great each table and to ensure the food and service was spectacular. It's the little things that keep a customer wanting to come back. We were very impressed with all the food we had and loved talking to the owner. I was so happy with the service and food and would recommend for special events or a nice night out. The risotto and the artichoke salad was my favorite! Definitely would recommend trying it out. One bad thing to mention is the cost of valet. $28 with a validation for dinning still sounds steep even for LA. So plan ahead for parking as there is a public parking across the street that is cheaper. read more

Upon walking in to sit at the bar with my friend we were greeted by a few people at the host stand. They were nice and welcoming. We had a few drinks and dinner at the bar .We shared the prosciutto appetizer. I had their salmon and my friend had their New York steak we had a Napoleon for dessert. Came here on a date, who swears that Madeo's is the best traditional Italian. I've lived in SoCal for over a year and have never heard of this place. It's pretty hard to get a reservation here but it's possible or you can wait for bar seating. It's located next to the 1 West Hollywood hotel, which has really good drinks if you want to go there before dinner. The owner was a sweet old Italian man, who said hello to us from the other side of the bar. You don't see many owners do that anymore. I have always wanted to try. Now that I have been to Stella, the restaurant that took over Madeo's old space, it was time to go. All in all a classic Italian joint in LA. Very good, very chic and classic. But don't kill me for saying this but I was craving a pizza when I went. I feel I am being so uncouth for saying that but that was what I was feeling. I've been coming to Madeo since they reopened in 2022 at their new location on sunset. I didn't get the chance to go to their previous location pre Covid but I've been told the quality and service has always been consistent. From the minute you walk in, you're treated like an old friend. The owner, manager, and servers all great you so warmly it feels like you've known them for years. Getting a reservation can be difficult as it's over the phone only and they're constantly booked up so call ahead if you have a certain day in mind. We usually start with the meatballs (which are not on the menu) and the caprese. The prosciutto is also amazing and a generous portion. For my entree I usually stick with the penne madeo or the bolognese. Both are outstanding! The wine selection could be more diverse and price range is a bit steep. A decent bottle of wine starts at about $200. I've also noticed that prices have all gone up in the last several months. Each item has increased on average $4-6. $42 for a bolognese is pretty expensive, especially when their competitors are $29 and just as good. I'll continue going back to Madeo because I do love everything about it, but it is getting more and more expensive to do so. read more

Madeo is one of the top three best Italian restaurants in Los Angeles. It is extremely delicious, the service is fantastic, the menu options are almost unbeatable, and the ambience is really upscale and beautifully designed. It's located up on West Sunset Blvd which is one of the busiest parts of LA, but they do offer valet parking for $22 with validation or you can park across the street in one of the pay lots, or if you are lucky enough to find a rare street parking spot. It's very large, bright, and open on the inside with indoor and outdoor seating available, plus a very large bar near the entrance. The service was one of the best that I've had in town, and I go out to a new restaurant every single weekend in LA for years in a row. We were checked in on many times by our server, the owner himself who was very polite, and multiple different bus boys. We were impressed at how good the service was. Our drink refills came out extremely fast, and so did the food. This is the sort of place that you could potentially see a celebrity whether from entertainment or business but it is also a great place for a date, work dinner, or a dinner with friends or family. I will admit that it is a bit expensive, but the meal will be worth it. They have a lot of options on their menu that are very traditional and things that I have not seen since I was last in Italy. Being half Italian myself, I am extremely partial to good or bad Italian food, and can confidently say this is some great Italian cuisine. We started off with the Bresaola special and the Beef Carpaccio. Both have been two of my favorite appetizers since I was a kid, so it was great to have their version of them. The portion size was fair and the flavors were really strong and exactly what I hoped for. For my entrée, I chose the Milanese, which is basically pounded veal, and then breaded. I have had other versions in the US, but none of them as good as what I had when I was last in Milan. This one is a very close comparison to that; it was extremely authentic, and even though very thin, it was still very juicy. Honestly the best Milanese that I've had in the United States. For dessert we had the Vanilla and Raspberry Panna Cotta with a cappuccino and it was a fantastic end to a fantastic meal. The dessert was sweet, but not overly so, and the cappuccino was strong, just how I like it. The only downside is you pretty much have to do valet parking for $22 being that it is located on the bottom floor of a hotel, but this is the sort of place that will not disappoint, and will impress any diner that you bring to it. It's certainly a great celebratory option, or the sort of place where you want to have a guaranteed delicious dinner. I plan to be back in the near future and can comfortably can say it's in my top three favorite LA Italian restaurants. read more
