My 2 friends and I ordered: -Seared Tuna Sashimi -Awesome Roll -Z-2 (low carb) Roll -Amazing Eight Roll My personal favorite was Awesome Roll which is a fresh roll with a spicy jalapeño kick. My least fav was Z-2... Tasted too healthy and bland lol I'll skip. DESSERT: You get a free dessert of choice with check-in! The waitress let us use their charger since ALL of our phones died to show her that we checked in. We decided to go for something new: -Fried Cheesecake! I was down the street around lunch and pulled up yelp to check what was nearby. I've driven by this place a million times, never even thought about stopping or pulling it up on yelp, but when I saw how highly it was rated, I thought to myself, "yes, I *would* actually very much like some good sushi for lunch today". I always go for chirashi at a place like this if they have it, which they do - $16 (plus tax and tip) got me a chirashi bowl with 2 pieces each of 6 types of fish, plus masago and tomago (and a complimentary decent bowl of miso soup). Everything was perfectly fresh and perfectly cut - I arrived moderately hungry, and left very satisfied with both quality and quantity. It wasn't enormous, but it wasn't tiny, either, and was definitely quite delicious from start to finish. I got there right around noon, which is also right when everyone else had just arrived, so the place was pretty packed - still only took about 10 minutes to get my food (I left around 12:45, and so did everyone else, though, so if you can pick your time, I'd say, any time that is *not* right at noon.) They do also have some decent-looking $10 weekday lunch specials, too, but honestly I'd probably just always get the chirashi. I'm a sucker for good chirashi. read more

Came in here after a two hour workout session with my sorority sister Tiffany at the Rec center in CSULB. So yes, I was extremely hungry. And luckily it was happy hour at awesome sushi, so we (plus 6 other sisters) scooted our butts over there. What we got: -Awesome roll: MY ALL TIME favorite roll at this establishment. The salmon, the jalapeños, the butter ponzu...it all works so splendidly! It's light and refreshing, yet extremely decadent. Probably not something I recommend after working out your washboard abs, but it was worth it. -Brilliant roll: another favorite at our table, but it was left in the shadows by my awesome roll. It's a California roll with salmon on top, drizzled with mayo and a special sweet sauce. -California roll: nothing too crazy, but still very yummy. -happy hour pitcher of Sapporo: $9 pitcher, ice cold. MMM...it was awesome with the sushi. Got us all pretty buzz. Again, I don't recommend you drinking after a work out...but come on! Live a little! I completely understand why this place has great reviews. Sure, the sushi is good and tastes fresh, but the customer service is out of this world. I'm not sure if she is the owner or she just works there, but Nina's customer service alone makes you want to come back. She is warm, welcoming and goes above and beyond to make you feel that your patronage is valued and appreciated. Things to know about the business, they really specialize heavy on the sushi, so don't expect to find udon or ramen soups. If you check-in from Yelp, you get a free dessert with a purchase of $40 or more...that shouldn't be hard to achieve given the prices. (I highly recommend the fried banana desert--to die for!). They are a bit on the pricey side with rolls in the range of $12-$14; aside from your basic california and spicy tuna rolls ranging between $5-$6. I had the spicy tuna salad, and throughly enjoyed it! I recommend asking for a lemon wedge and squeesing it throughout the salad to enhance the flavor. We found the combination plate to be a great value because you get lots of food for the price. read more

Another careless waitress came to my table , already feeling stupid I just asked for anything that has shrimp she recommended the Shrimp Killer, I order her recommendation along side with the cheesecake tempura. Came here with my 2 best friends during happy hour and the food was impressive! We started with a pitcher of Sapporo and a bottle of lychee sake. We also ordered the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño slices and an awesome roll. Everything showed up at the same time and we were all starving. The Yellowtail with jalapeño was fantastic. I don't know what kind of sauce was on it but it was super fresh, melt in your mouth and tender. The awesome roll was exactly that, AWESOME. Again, I don't know what kind of sauces were on it but they all worked. We also ordered octopus salad, another order of yellowtail sashimi and another roll. I can't remember the name of it but it had shrimp tempura and crab inside and was another home run. I have been going to Awesome Sushi for five years, so it's high time I write a review! This place is just wonderful. The owner, Nena, always makes her customers feel amazing. She always gives me a warm welcome and sometimes a little sake toast. The sushi here is top quality! I no longer live around the corner, but am willing to make the 40 minute drive. They have a nice variety of rolls and their sashimi is just perfect. I have been to sushi spots where the fish is less than fresh. Good tuna is important for me. I cannot handle grizzly tuna. Awesome sushi serves great quality fish. On this visit, we had the escolar, yellow tail, and tuna sashimi. We also tried the yellow tail with jalapeño. All was fresh and wonderful. My personal favorite roll is the Call Me Babe. I cannot come here without getting it. I'm only sad it's no longer on the happy hour menu. We also had the Awesome roll and the Slot Machine. Came here with my bf as a last minute change of plans. Enjoyed the place a lot. Nothing special with beer selection but the rolls were good. Highly recommend the Vampire roll and zombie roll. My third choice of a tempura roll (showgirl) was just ok. Also came here for the Monday special. Monday HH is 330-630 and their special is 630 to close. Of the rolls on that menu, the awesome roll was pretty good. Some of the better rolls are at normal price. Beer was $3 a glass for draft. Overall a good spot close to home! read more

Awesome sushi is just that...Awesome! Besides the sushi being delicious the customer service you receive is exceptional. I recommend trying their octopus salad, one of the best I have had so far. The only downside is that it is rather small but don't let that discourage you this is a must try spot for Sushi. What a fun sushi joint! Went on a Friday night and when we first pulled into the parking lot I was a bit thrown off as the restaurant sits next to a Midas auto shop. But as they say, never judge a book by its cover. The parking lot is small but we found a couple of spots open. The restaurant is on the smaller side with a small patio. Upon entering we were greeted immediately by Nena who was full of energy and great vibes. She sat us within 5 minutes at one of the smaller tables which was by the patio door so there was a bit of a breeze. We didn't complain but she probably figured we'd be more comfortable at a bigger table away from the door so once the bigger table next to us opened up she moved us over. Very attentive staff! The food was amazing and fresh! I had the Yellowtail with jalapeño and ponzu sauce, tuna sashimi, spicy edamame and shrimp tempura. I recommend all of it! And, for checking in on Yelp, you get a free desert with a $40 purchase! So we tried the fried banana tempura with vanilla ice cream... YUM!!! Unfortunately I wasn't feeling my best so I didn't have it in me to do Sake Bombs but next time I may have to. Apparently Nena is the Sake Bomb Queen and she lives up to her title. Girl was throwing those suckers back like a pro! She was definitely entertaining and every time someone ordered a Sake Bomb she got the crowd going. My wife and I got the salmon carpaccio, red spider roll, spicy tuna salad, and then red snapper and yellowtail sushi pieces. The salmon carpaccio was excellent... garlicky, smooth, creamy. I'd get it again for sure, except that I also want to try the yellowtail with jalepeno and tuna poke. The red snapper was also especially good with a little lemon juice to add some zing to it.
