Okay... so we steered clear from take out sushi bc well it just doesn't sound very appetizing for takeout. I can't believe we waited a year to order takeout sushi. It was way better and fresher tasting than expected!! This places seriously has the best sushi. We ordered 5 rolls for 2 people and we could not finish it all. More so we were just bummed we waited so long bc it was mighty tasty for takeout. The only thing is they pack all topping sauces in separate little containers she they aren't as evenly spread as they are in person. But it's safe to say we will be back soon for some takeout sushi! This is the BEST sushi spot I have ever been to. It is a fairly small place and I never would have known this place was here if it weren't for my friend. She has been raving about this place forever. We sat at the bar and were served a sashimi salad. This was so bomb, I knew the other dishes would be delicious too. We ordered the awesome roll, 747 roll, albacore sashimi, spicy albacore roll and salmon skin roll. Everything was so delicious I can hardly describe it. The fish just melts in your mouth and everything is perfectly made. I hardly had to dip anything in soy sauce. The salmon skin roll was wrapped so well. The name says it all- this place is awesome. A tiny restaurant tucked into a teeny shopping center next to a mechanic and a tudoring joint and nestled along the runways of the Long Beach Airport- this place is worth it. Surroundings/Atmosphere- It's a pretty small restaurant with a sushi bar in the middle. There's indoor seating and a small side patio as well. It's the usual style of a sushi restaurant, dark on the inside with wood-backed chairs. Parking looks pretty tight here, but I always manage to find a spot when I go. Menu/Quality for the Price- Came here during lunch with a friend, so I ordered the lunch special. I got the Snow Girl cut roll with Chicken Teriyaki, and it came with seaweed salad and salad. The roll was decent, I can't remember if it was anything special. The chicken was dry, but the sauce was on par. The seaweed salad was good though, and the other salad was just the norm. Overall, nothing really surprising here. The lunch special was $8.95. Service- The service was pretty good though. Our waitress was pretty attentive and accommodating. She was nice and prompt when it came to calculating our bill. 4/5 for service! Words of Advice/Tips- I feel that happy hour is the best time to come to Awesome Sushi. Other than that, it isn't really worth a visit to me. I would give this place a 3.5/5 stars if I could. It's nothing super special, but it's wallet friendly. Ask for the chef's sashimi platter! The pieces of sashimi were huge, and tasted really fresh. None of that icky fishy smell. Checked in via yelp and they gave free dessert (the waitress let us choose any dessert we wanted from the dessert menu). There are a ton of sushi places in Long Beach but the best two places are Sushi Kara and Awesome Sushi. Awesome Sushi has great HH/daily deals and they have unique takes on sushi and other dishes. PARKING It's a very small parking lot so be forewarned that if you're going during a busy time (like HH), you may have difficulties finding a spot to park. I sometimes park alongside the fence which, not sure if I'm allowed too but whatevs I make my own rules FOOD Love the creativity of the rolls and other specialties. I think Sushi Kara's fish overall tastes a little better but this shouldn't deter you from going to Awesome Sushi. Here's what I've had: Spicy Seaweed Salad: A must if you like spicy food. Probably the best seaweed salad I've ever had because it's so flavorful and delicious. If you go during HH it's only like $3. Brilliant Roll: my boyfriend's go-to roll. I really like it as well, and the sesame oil adds such a good flavor. Awesome Roll: love the butter ponzu and garlic on this one. The fresh jalapeño adds a great crunch. New York New York Roll: I love sushi with seared beef. This one probably wasn't the best I've had but still good and worth trying. I did love the green bean tempura inside and the fried onions are a great addition. I Feel So Lucky Roll - this roll is usually at every sushi place but it's good here! Calia Roll - new on their HH menu. Overall fresh but nothing too creative. Life Is Awesome: seared salmon with mango salsa. SO GOOD. The flavors are bright, sweet and compliment each other nicely. SERVICE/ATMOSPHERE Now this is why I give it a full 5 stars. The entire Awesome Sushi staff is AWESOME. They're attentive, fun to talk too and overall a rad group. I'm not a very adventurous sushi eater and don't like very spicy food so I always play it safe. The rainbow roll was excellent and the house Sauvignon Blanc was perfectly fine. I will go back whenever I can. It's a very small place and it might be hard to accommodate large parties. You can make a reservation on their website and , although I did not do this, I think it would be smart for a busy time or a group (bigger than 2!). I live in NY and found this through Yelp. There was a misunderstanding about my order, I don't favor any sauces other than the eel sauce, and they had put an assortment of sauces but Nina quickly had the chefs remake it no problem at all! They have a weekend special (not sure if it changes throughout the week) but I would highly recommend getting their Allen roll during the weekend. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, we waited about 30 minutes to be seated inside vs the patio since we had our son and it was chilly it not we would've been seated within 10 min on a Friday at 6 o'clock that's pretty damn good.
