Parking: If you can get into the Aiso Parking Garage across the street it's the best price, but it was full when I got there. There is very little street parking and two parking garages around the block, with typical super fast accelerated pricing which becomes $20 quick. You can make a reservation on their website or the app using Resy. I called because it was a holiday and was able to make a same day reservation, unfortunately it took me over 30 minutes to figure out the parking siutation and to get there. Service was good, both the host and the server were very friendly and helpful. It was warm and super busy so I could see they were stressed. It's pretty small inside, good for couples harder for bigger groups. There is also some seating outside but glad I was inside since it was even hotter out there. I got the bentobox: binchotan jidori chicken teriyaki, seasonal vegetables, ztsukemono, miso soup, rice. Everything was crafted well and beatifully plated. Overall a very delicious meal. The chicken was definitely fatty and heavy

Azay is a popular French-Japanese fusion restaurant in Little Tokyo. Overall, I thought the Japanese mackerel bento was decent (especially enjoyed the soba side), but it wasn't anything special or memorable. Unfortunately didn't get to try any of the more French-inspired dishes so can't comment on that aspect. It was busy on a Saturday morning at 11 am and we had to wait a bit, even with reservations that I had booked 2 days in advance (there were still plenty of slots left). However, the service and turnover were fast and the wait staff were extremely nice and attentive. The interior was snug but clean and comfortable. We parked at the Aiso Parking garage for $2 for 2 hours.

We found street parking a short walk away around the corner. My boyfriend and I made a reservation here for Saturday brunch. We were a little late but they managed to accommodate us at a table inside after a short wait. As a vegetarian, I really appreciate how many of the meals on the menu can be made vegan. I chose the vegan Japanese breakfast and I loved it. It was light and simple but wonderfully satisfying. Seasonal watermelon agua frescas weren't on the menu but our server told us we may want to try them! It was very refreshing and we didn't taste any artificial flavors. I tasted a hint of cucumber. We tasted the ice cream, custard, and peach on the stone fruit tart. It was delish. However, the crust on the stone fruit tart was too hard. We really had to drive the fork downward into the crust to even break off a piece. We informed a server about this and we ordered a matcha crème brûlée. We were charged only for the crème brûlée. All in all, we really enjoyed the aesthetic food and the intimate ambiance. The servers were very friendly, there was hardly a wait for our food and drinks once we were seated, and my boyfriend's water glass was never empty. After our pleasant balanced meal, we walked over and visited their super cute, super cool hardware shop next door. I thought the restaurant-hardware business concept is outstanding. Extraordinary little place!!

I love a traditional Japanese breakfast, and I love Azay! Service is always friendly, and the restaurant is cozy and comfortable. The quality of food here is excellent and fresh. This is my go-to spot when I'm craving Japanese breakfast, and it's all I've ever ordered here. I will have to return and try their other menu items to broaden my palette, as I'm sure they are just as delicious. By the way, if you are unable to find street parking, parking in the lot across the street (Judge John Aiso parking garage) is the key!

A little bit of a wait on Friday at lunch time but outdoor seating was available with umbrellas to block the sun, fortunately. The Japanese breakfast was a delightful meal with just a little bit of everything and I thoroughly enjoyed it, nothing was too salty or sour, etc. Very small menu though. I wish they still served omurice!

Super cozy comfort breakfast we had here! We didn't have a reservation on a Saturday morning, but the staff was so nice in accommodating us and we were seated quite quickly. The unagi bowl is delicious and the traditional Japanese breakfast was yummy too, although it wasn't as filling. The French toast was delicious, I highly highly recommend it. Next time I come I definitely want to try the loco moco! I love how you can look over at the kitchen and see how the chef prepares the food, if there was not bar seating I definitely would have asked to be seated there, but it's a super tight spot - cozy, but def something to keep in mind for large parties.

Super delicious food and they have vegan options! The vegan Japanese breakfast (pictured) and the vegan bento is amazing.

Amazing food. Unagi bowl definitely the top one. Croquette was yummy it had curry flavor. Matcha Creme Brulee was so yummy not very sweet and the apricot paired so well Fun to watch the chefs make the food right in front of you. Really nice lighting and decor inside too Nice service. So glad to have found this spot in LA! Was really missing traditional Japanese breakfast from our travels abroad and so happy to have come across Azay. Menu is simple but with good variety of options. We tried the breakfast bento and lunch bentos. The array of accompaniments was excellent. Service is also wonderful & very friendly. Food was served hot & fresh, quality was excellent as to be expected. Beautiful, bright and cozy space. Really enjoyed our meal here & looking forward to our next visit. Also got the matcha crème brulee--one of the best desserts we've ever had. Perfect balance of matcha & sweetness. Pro tip: make a resy! Tables fill fast.

We had a good time at Azay. I had the daily bento with jidori chicken (the chicken was DELISH), my guests had the Nagoya hitsumabushi (eel bowl) & crab curry. The service was excellent (they even gave me xtra salad since I omitted rice). Water/tea refills were spot-on. My only complaint is that the soba noodles were totally overcooked, like, beyond. Probably needed 2-2.5min less cooking time. Other than that I thought the meal was decent. Would def like to return & try their Japanese breakfast.

First time at Azay in Little Tokyo today, and somehow it felt like I'd been meaning to walk through those doors for years. One of those places that quietly lingers on your "must try" list until you finally give in. Azay was opened by chef Akira Hirose, who built the space around the kind of Japanese breakfast he grew up with. Thoughtful. Seasonal. The opposite of rushed. It's a small, intimate restaurant in the heart of Little Tokyo, where the morning light hits just right and everything feels intentional. The Japanese breakfast was exactly what I hoped for and somehow better. A neat lacquered tray carrying grilled fish, delicate sides, miso soup, rice, pickles. Comforting in that quiet, steady way. Home cooked but precise. Balanced without trying too hard. Elegant, nourishing, and deeply satisfying without ever feeling heavy. It's the kind of meal that doesn't shout for attention. It simply exists with confidence. And sometimes that's exactly what you want.

Met a friend here for lunch and thank goodness we had a reservation, place was packed when we showed up. Service was warm and genuinely friendly. The menu is small and everything sounded good. I ordered a coffee and the tofu & maitake bento: super light, clean, and really satisfying. Bonus points for the coffee refills, and it was actually good coffee, not an afterthought. My friend went with the chawanmushi and the miso black cod bento, which was perfectly cooked. We ended with crème brûlée and a cookie, and wow, perfect Japanese-style sweetness. Not cloying, not heavy, just right. Loved it. Only downside: parking is an absolute nightmare. Truly awful. But once you're inside, it's worth the hassle.

We were so excited to have the chance to try this place for the first time. The service was great. They were able to accommodate us without a reservation. The staff was attentive and courteous. The dining space is clean and they have an open kitchen. The food was excellent. It was an authentic Japanese breakfast experience which brought us back to the ryokan in Kyoto. Restroom was clean, which is always a plus! Street parking available. Reservation is recommended. We will definitely return!

The indoor seating was bar tops only and their tables are outside in the makeshift patio, since they are located in a shopping center with Yum Yum Donuts. We didn't love how in order to park in the lot we had to pay the $17 valet fee even though there were plenty of spaces. I feel like that service should only be mandatory during peak dining hours. Anyways, the host and hostess were both very nice and walked us to our table. The host/our waiter for the first half of the meal made some recommendations and shared what the daily special was. To drink, I had the Spritz which was good - nothing to write home about, but it got the job done. We started our meal with a fresh baguette and homemade butter which was divine. For our main meal, we shared the heirloom tomato salad, trout almandine, and "Big Mec" with frites. The heirloom salad - although simple - was refreshing and had a perfectly balanced dressing. The trout was the start of the show. Crispy skin, crispy almonds, and SWIMMING in butter. The Big Mec was also quite good, but I think at that point I was a bit too full to enjoy it. But the meat was cooked well, and the sauce they drizzle on top was tasty. No dessert since we were stuffed. It was truly an indulgent meal. Of the French restaurants I have had in LA, I'd say Petit Trois was memorable. I think if I were to go again I would visit their Sherman Oaks location solely based on the ambiance.

The whole thing just felt like a great lunch. Taking our time, hanging at the bar, nowhere to rush off to. Only thing missing was a glass of wine, which I'll fix next time. Very excited we finally made it. Can't wait to come back.

I appreciate that they have the option of a personalized dinner menu which is what my partner got for me, and they even bring you a large envelope so you can take the menu home. It took us some time to be greeted by our waitress. I felt the service was lacking. She was nice, but I felt like we were often forgotten. For our drinks I had a cucumber gin martini and my partner had the Casanova. Both were delicious! For our appetizer, we ordered the Piri-Piri shrimp. It was 4 pieces of shrimp lined up with small circles of flatbread in between each piece, seated on top of a smoky and flavorful sauce. We both loved it! For our main meal we ordered the couscous "Royale," fresh Papardelle pasta, and roasted carrots. The couscous came with one lamp chop, stewed lamb, merguez, and chicken - with a side of sliced almonds and dried apricot for topping, extra lamb stew sauce, and the most incredible harissa. I absolutely loved this dish, it was so flavorful. The pasta was a solid dish as well, and the roasted carrots were also fantastic. For dessert, we ordered the lava cake and I had Moroccan mint tea. The lava cake was well balanced with flavor and not overly sweet. The tea was fragrant, sweet, and the best way to end the meal. Overall I had a nice first experience at The Little Door. I don't think there's much left on the menu that I would want to try. I would love if they added more Moroccan-inspired dishes to the menu to make them stand out! I just never realized where it was since I don't usually make it out to Hancock Park. Then one day, while I happened to be in the area, I stumbled upon it and had one of those "Wait...this is here?!" moments. You ever have one of those places you've wanted to visit forever, only to realize it was much closer than you thought? My first visit was actually for dessert after having a less-than-memorable lunch at Mish down the street. Unfortunately, I arrived later in the day and most of the pastry case had already been wiped out, leaving only a limited selection. The staff recommended the Dulce de Leche Cremadette ($6.75), and I'm glad they did. It was perfectly flaky, buttery, and sweet, with the dulce de leche tucked inside the pastry. The caramel reminded me of the caramel coating on a caramel apple. I also picked up some brownies at the staff's recommendation, and those were fantastic -- incredibly moist, rich, and delicious. Definitely a must-get. I was a little disappointed that I missed out on the majority of the pastry selection, but I was told that the pastries are made in limited batches each day and once they sell out, that's it. So if you're coming specifically for the pastries, get here early. Earlier this summer, I made the acquaintance of an OG Yelper, Joseph A., and we've been corresponding back and forth on Yelp. I happened to know that he's a regular at République, so I asked if he'd be interested in meeting me right when they opened. I figured if anyone knew what to order, it would be him. Joseph was incredibly kind and gracious enough to treat me to breakfast. I ordered his usual breakfast recommendation: the Regular Breakfast ($24), which comes with bacon steak, fingerling potatoes, a demi baguette, French butter, jam, and an egg prepared any style. Joseph went with the soft scramble, and I followed his lead. That was definitely the move. They really know how to cook eggs here. The soft scramble was absolutely divine -- creamy, delicate, and perfectly cooked. The bacon steak was a little on the salty side, but still very good. The demi baguette was excellent, especially with the French butter and jam. Honestly, I could have eaten several pieces of that baguette with the butter and jam alone. The fingerling potatoes were nicely seasoned and quite good on their own, but a few dashes of hot sauce really took them up another notch. I'll be honest: $24 is definitely on the pricey side for what you're getting, especially when you break down the individual components. That said, when you factor in the quality of the food, the setting, and the overall experience, I can understand why people are willing to pay it. We also shared several pastries, and every single one was excellent in its own right. I'm officially hooked on the pastries here. They just don't miss. Service was pretty good during my visit. One thing worth noting is that République adds a 4% surcharge to the bill to help cover healthcare for their staff. It's certainly something to be aware of when looking at the final bill. f you're looking for a quintessential LA brunch experience to take out-of-towners to, République is a great option. Just be prepared for potentially long lines, especially on weekends. I visited on a weekday morning over the summer, so I didn't personally experience the weekend crowds. My only real wait was at the pastry counter during my first visit. I've heard you can expect people lining up before they even open at 8AM, so plan accordingly. The cult following surrounding Walter and Margarita Manzke's restaurant/café is understandable. Between the food, pastries, atmosphere, and history of the building, there's a lot to appreciate here. And speaking of history, the building itself is pretty special. The property was built in 1928 by Charlie Chaplin. It became a restaurant in 1989 when chefs Mark Peel and Nancy Silverton transformed the space to open La Brea Bakery and Campanile. After Campanile closed in 2012, the building was renovated and modified to open up the space while returning it closer to the spirit of its original construction. République opened in 2013 and has been going strong ever since. Do yourself a favor and eat at République. Come for the food and pastries, but also take some time to appreciate the ambiance and the history of this incredible LA property. And whatever you do, get here early if you want the pastries. Once they're gone, they're gone! Don't walk--run to République.

I was looking forward to trying this French & Japanese fusion spot. I love both cuisines and I can't wait to see how the chef can blend the two together. We were so lucky to find a parking spot right in front. No need to valet. We were there to celebrate a birthday. We were seated right away on the patio. I was afraid I'd be cold but it was ok with the covers. They also have heat lamps. We were very happy with everything we ordered, and we ordered a lot! Highlights were the rolls and uni toast. Delish! We honestly could have skipped the jidori chicken, we ordered one too many entrees. We would love to come back and try more dishes.

Every dish feels genuinely thoughtful. * The dry-aged burger was deeply savory, perfectly cooked, and extremely juicy. The kind of burger that requires both hands, several napkins, and temporary silence. * The fries were excellent, but the real plot twist was the curry ketchup. I had never tasted anything quite like it before. Sweet, savory, slightly spiced--and dangerously easy to keep eating. * We also tried the pork sandwich, topped with egg yolk. Rich, layered, messy in the correct way, and full of flavor. * The cocktails were also very well made--interesting without feeling like a science experiment served in glassware. * The menu changes frequently, so every visit feels a little different. You might see Japanese and French influences, then suddenly something inspired by Chinese dishes like Peking duck. The chef clearly enjoys traveling without leaving the kitchen. * ‍ Most importantly, you can feel the attention in the small details. Nothing seems random, even when the combinations sound unusual. This is becoming the kind of restaurant I'll probably visit once a month just to see what new idea has appeared on the menu. For research purposes, obviously. The curry ketchup has nothing to do with it.

Keeping it simple we started with the classic baguette with Beurre D'Isigny Demi-sel (butter), and while I would opt for a bit more softness and fluffiness with the baguette, it was nonetheless a delicious pairing. The main course for me is the very classic Boeuf Bourguignon, which is braised beef ribs in red wine sauce plus parpadelle carrots, mushrooms, and pearl onions. It's not too hearty or heavy and it's quite tasty, although it could use a little more flavor overall. Slightly polite, but good nonetheless. If you're into exploring traditional French cuisine, be sure to check out Monsieur Marcel Bistro as well as its Market.

My plate was soaked in oil & juices. The potato's that it comes served with were not touched by me. After one bite, I knew I couldn't eat any more of it. Plus, even if the potatoes were good, I think the salmon was so heavy that I couldn't stomach both. The stars come from the setting! This resturaunt is located in the middle of the Grove Farmers Market. The outdoor seating & service are classy & cute. An adorable little French stop.

The escargot is probably the best I've had. I loved how buttery it was and the snail itself was so fresh and tender. I'd definitely repurchase this on another visit. I even dipped some of the baguette bread (which had the best crunch!) into the butter and it was perfection! For our mains, we got the sea bass with lentils and the Alaskan halibut, and both were prepared perfectly down to taste and texture. Everything about its execution felt very intentional. The halibut was baked with the right amount of breading and the sea bass was pan seared to give that nice crispy texture to the skin. My only critique is I thought the lentils were a bit too overpowering because of the huge quantity, but honestly, everything else was amazing enough that I'm not bothered by it.

Overall this restaurant layout was pretty cool and the night we went the noise level was moderate but I can see that if its packed this place could get loud. They offer outdoor seating as well that looked cozy. Our waiter and his team was very attentive and always made sure we had what we needed so service was exceptional. Food is always an area that I leave up to everyone's own taste. To me I felt some of the dishes needed more salt but I always enjoy my food from how the chef prepped it so I can try new dishes.

The staff are friendly, engaging, and attentive. If you take the time to listen, you can hear and see that the restaurant is run like a Swiss watch. Unfortunately, the front-of-house hospitality severely detracted from the experience. We had a 7:45 PM reservation for four, but were not seated until 8:20 PM--a 35-minute wait past our booked time. Delays happen and we completely understand that previous diners linger, but the host never once offered the word "sorry" let alone an apology. Instead, after we checked in multiple times to inquire about the table, we were asked for our drink order while standing in the corner at 8:15 PM, only to find every single drink charged on the final check. For a Michelin-starred dining experience and an easy $600+ bill, basic hospitality standards should apply. If an establishment chooses not to acknowledge or apologize for a significant delay, offering a courtesy drink while guests wait is standard practice. If I had gotten an apology I wouldn't have expected the drinks. But to offer neither an apology nor a small gesture of goodwill felt dismissive and out of touch with the rest of the meal.
